If I could give zero stars to this place, I would. I used to come to this location every single month to get my money orders for rent and never had any issues until a few months ago when they started changing up their rules to getting money orders. My gripe doesn't stem from the rules itself, but from the fact that it seems like not every team member is on the same page and gives me and other customers mixed signals on what their protocol is. My last straw was from today when I went to get my money order, and the lady who was assisting me at the cash register, proceeded to raise her voice and yell at me because I paid with a credit card instead of debit, even though I told her three times that I was paying with the credit card. The gentleman in line behind me even vouched for me and told the lady that I said I was paying with a credit card multiple times. Poor customer service everytime I come here. And the lady in the register a few lanes over complained to a fellow coworker that a customer needed 10 bags and she proceeded to make a face and rolled her eyes. Hands-down the worst supermarket I've ever been to!. It astonishes me how much normal every day items they're constantly out of. 90% of the time they don't even have shopping carts! I live close and I'm forced to go there sometimes but I truly avoid it. I'll drive to Santa Clarita to go to a real supermarket if I have to do some serious grocery shopping. And they're extremely overpriced, I know everything is overpriced right now but that place is ridiculous. I've been shopping at Vons since I was a kid, it's always been my favorite grocery store- in terms of price, quality,Convenience, and so forth. However, the Sylmar location which is close to my new home is now the location I primarily shop at. For the most part, everything is fine and I typically find what I need and have no problem. One thing in particular that always gets me though, is the flower department... Today is my third attempt with buying flowers & was hoping for good customer service. The first time I bought flowers, I asked the woman working in the flower department if she could re-wrap a bouquet of flowers... they weren't on sale and were very lovely other than the wrapping. I asked if it could be re-wrapped. She immediately gave me a long stare and was very short and rude with me. I brushed it off and just thought "maybe she's having a bad day" she also stated that flowers on sale can't be re-wrapped and that regardless there is a fee. I told her they weren't on sale and she said ok, but she seemed so irritated by me. The cashier at the time saw what happened and said sorry to me. This time I went it and wanted to get a beautiful bouquet for a bday. I found some that I loved, but noticed they were squished since they were put out the day before-so the brown wrapping was tearing and crinkly. I walked up to who happened to be the same lady as the time before and said "hello I was wondering if you can please re-wrap these, just so they look fresh?" I also said "they aren't on sale, so that should be ok right?" She once again gives me a long stare and says with such a condescending attitude "ummm well they're 12.99 & we don't have that paper" she then starts saying "yeah- we don't do that & I can't" and honestly the rest was so uncomfortable I just decided to still buy the flowers with the balloons and cake I needed at the cashier aisle immediately right next to floral. When it was my turn I told the cashier that the lady in floral is always so snippy & seems upset about helping customers. She gave me attitude about expressing my experience in floral... she says "well she's the manager and that's how the rules are" I said "oh I'm sorry it seems she's your friend, I'm just trying to buy nice flowers. After that she no longer was nice to me. I've been in customer service my whole life! I'm very quick to defend workers who may be having a bad day and don't necessarily give the best service. I get it! It's hard sometimes to always put on smile and be in a cheerful mood, and want to help customers. But I have to say, the floral department in the sylmar Vons-at least with the Manager in floral, always disappoints me. read more

Usually have what I'm looking for, and I also love there pastries and desserts, I just think it's sad that the person answering call and seems to be running the bakery (she sounds Hispanic) I just don't like how cold she comes off... not welcoming AT ALL over the phone you could JUST tell over the phone that they don't like there job. She just gave so much bad attitude over the phone I was asking what kinda cakes they had left and she almost didn't wanna describe them to me (I wasn't asking for ingredients just what they looked like) I just wasn't a fan of the way she was talking to me when I was trying to be nice and it wasn't RECIPROCATED AT ALL. just left a bad taste in my mouth of the bakeries services....it just DOESNT represents vons well. First I want to give Lorraine a shout out, I love that woman, her attitude is awesome she is So kind and helpful, if the store was full of people like her it'd be the best vons ever, just saying... Now, last night I was stopped for the 4th time by security ACCUSING ME of shoplifting, (last time the guard actually grabbed me by the back of my pants!) Each time I open my backpack (which is ALWAYS left up front, never goes into the aisles,) and my purse and guess what?....I GOT NOTHING, CAUSE I DO NOT SHOPLIFT!....AMAZING RIGHT??? but security continues to follow me around harassing me, if there were another store walking distance to me I'd shop there instead of subjecting myself to this locations false accusations and defemation of character everything they stop me but there isn't so I have no choice... It's humiliating and embarrassing and plain right wrong. This Vons location consistently discriminates against special needs customers. They are ill informed of the Covid regulations set in places and follow you around while you shop. Which makes the trip take even longer. My son has severe autism he doesn't tolerate a mask and can't communicate or understand why were wearing them. We live in sylmar but I guess we will travel to Granada hills to shop from now on. read more

I love Vons but the manager in the deli department is really rude. I feel like every time I'm there she's always so rude to customers and her staff. I see this one staff member with colored hair apologizing to their customers for Flor's behavior. I don't remember her name, but once she had to give me a free sandwich because I had to deal with Flor's attitude. I honestly don't know why she's the manager and I think Vons could do better. I always tried to give this location a chance because of the convenient parking, but at this point I don't even know why I bother wasting the gas, or why they bother keeping the machines if they can't maintain them. Long lines. Even if the line starts off short, the wait seems to inevitably intensify. If/When a customer has an issue, the cashier should call for help, or request another register to open. Not here and the experience is dismal, at best. The last two times I was in this store, I was so frustrated with waiting that I left my items on the belt and walked out. The vegetarian selection is miserable, as well. I spoke to someone in house and was told that the vegetarian good are not Vons items, but stocked by an outside vender who comes in on Thursdays. The selection gets real paltry real fast, and employees don't do a thing. I asked if they could have the vender leave more selection and their guys restock during the week, but have yet to see that happen. Management, please get it together! This is the only mainstream grocery store in Sylmar, and I don't want to see it shut down. But you guys are doing very little to keep customers coming back. Rude and incompetent checkout persons. I am a weekly customer and when I went to pay for my items I was accused of stealing money left on the counter by a previous customer. When I said I I did not see or take any money I was made to check my pockets with everyone watching. It turns out that when the previous customer left she took her money with her and never left it on the counter. So I was insulted and humiliated by the check out person for no reason other than she was not po saying attention to what was going on and her obvious poor training. read more

I was not aware that onion costs $1.50 extra on a deli breakfast burrito but I will remember that from now on, lol. the woman who was helping me in the deli told me that they were out of breakfast potatoes which come in the breakfast burritos so when I asked her she could omit the "extra cost" for onions since they were out of the potatoes which COME on the burrito, she told me no. so when she gave me the burrito with a $3.99 label AND a $1.50 label for the onions, I could not stop laughing when I took it up to the cashier and she mistakenly only scanned the $1.50 tag. so thank you for the $1.50 breakfast, vons. Nothing makes me hit that "write a review" tab faster than excellent or horrible customer service. Unfortunately for this review, it's the latter. The cashier named BIANCA needs to learn the basics of customer service. She started ringing up my items with a scowl on her face, no hi or hello. So I say hi to her and she continues scanning and doesn't even acknowledge the customer. Strike 1. After everything's scanned and my payment is processing, she TAKES OUT HER PHONE AND CHECKS IT. Strike 2! HELLO?? That's so basic- you DO NOT check your phone in front of a customer, no matter what profession you're in. It's very rude and unprofessional. I usually don't have a particular problem with Vons, but just this one particular franchise. Maintenance and service wise, it's really a disappointment. There have been several times I've strolled down the chip and snack aisle and there were opened and half-eaten bags of chips.. gross. Hello maintenance and cameras. Hello? What are you (not) doing? All their liquor is locked up (sign for a bad neighborhood?) and there's a sign that reads "Ring the bell. PUSH HARD." I can think of three (probably more) instances where I've pushed that sucker many times and no one came. There's a camera over our head, and we wave and do a little dance in front of it. It's actually the dance of no hope. I finally call over a guy from the produce section to tell him that the liquor cabinet needed to be open.. Very inconvenient! read more

If you're the manager of this establishment, I urge you to take an overview of your customer service policies. I was next in line and a long line followed behind me. The woman who was next, had 1 item. But instead of your cashier (who just opened) taking the next guest in line, she took the woman in the very back. It was awful since we had been in line over 10 minutes while our cashier was making funny remarks and jokes instead of trying to find a way to open another register. But seriously, if someone is next in line and you open another register, you better take the person who was next!!! Everyone who works in the bakery is lovely. Unfortunately, this is one of the closest grocery stores to me and I am sometimes forced to shop here out of convenience. I can only assume that the produce manager inspects the produce only once a week because every single time I go, there is moldy produce! In my last visit, there were 2 packs of moldy blueberries in the organic section! Nearly the whole container was infested with mold which worries be because it should be someone's job to make sure this doesn't happen! In addition, their bagged lettuce isn't always fresh. There have been several times that I have purchased organic spring mix only to find that half of it cannot be used because it went bad. So I sit there, picking out the brown soggy pieces of spinach and lettuce so that I can hopefully enjoy at least a small cup of salad. I reached the end of my rope with this Vons today when I had to throw out my FOURTH minneola tangelo because it was bad. One molded almost immediately, and the other three must have been old. The top half of each was almost dry, and the other half was just deflated with absolutely no flavor. I am so sick of buying rotten produce from this store and vow to never do it again. Terrible staff. Never returning. Had a bad encounter with an extremely rude employee. I left my cart unattended for less than a minute and she took out my few groceries leaving my cart empty. I approached her on the next isle and joshingly said she had taken my stuff. She gave me a flurry of what-not. She said, "people steal stuff you know" and "If I don't like her doing her job thats too bad". LOL! How does this relate to shoplifting? Wow! All that! Couldn't she just say "oops, sorry about that". I love VONS...not for their price, but for their service. But...after all, that's their marketing M.O. They specialize in their service. However, NEVER go to this one. First of all, it is in one of the most ghetto areas of the San Fernando Valley. I was trapped in their parking lot once because a robbery had just occured across the street from VONS. The store security guard will follow you around close to closing time. But I guess they need to given the location. Should you wish to go to VONS...drive to the one in Granada Hills. Oh, dear, then again, nevermind. That one has another set of evils to contend with. read more

I have been shopping at this Vons for at least 20 years. Let's start of by saying that it is not half as nice as other Vons especially the one in Mission Hills. They have had an inside renovation which was in dire need so I very much appreciate that. The problem I have more recently is with their shopping carts. I'm not even exaggerating for at least the last 6 months I have called corporate and complained to store manager Warren and the supervisor as to why they have maybe 10 to 15 carts. How is this possible? If you want to shop here and need a cart you have to literally search the parking lot for one. They blame it on the homeless but Mission Hills has homeless encampments too. But it's funny because Vallarta and Food 4 Less doesn't have this problem. Vons you need to treat your customers with respect and get carts with locks if you have to. I live in a very nice neighborhood up in the foothills this is not the ghetto as according to the manager Warren he had to move out of Sylmar that was his answer. Was about 8:52 and they didn't allow me in, even though they close at 9. I work in retail and I understand the annoyance of getting a customer in the last minute, the desire to close up and head home for New Years eve. With that said I haven't worked in a place that stopped allowing customers in before closing. To top it off, she had just let someone in right as I was exiting my vehicle. I also specifically mentioned I was getting only one item, I understand the concern if I was going to do my weekly grocery shopping in the last 5 minutes but c'mon, ONE ITEM. There was another girl who was bagging my items and they proceeded to conversate with each other, I tried to interject but was cut off by the bag girl and then a customer i'm pressuming a regular started talking to PJ and the 3 of them proceeded to conversate. Vons - My latest discovery at Vons! Brookies!! So good. - Grocery Near Me - Sylmar, California

The most phenomenal and noteworthy thing to mention about this Vons is the people. P.J. in particular is a rare gem. She is the most boisterous, friendly, fun-loving grocery store employee that I've ever met. When I check out, I will make my way to her line. And it's an added bonus if her line is super long! "Why" you ask? Because it's entertaining and heartwarming listening to the unique conversation that she has with every single person in front of me. There are people that she talks to and seems to know their entire family history. There are new people that are making her acquaintance for the first time. Those are the most fun to watch/listen to. P.J. has a quick-wit and when she Joshes you, there are no hard feelings- it's always just good fun. She is the reason that I have returned to Vons for the last decade. I feel like this is a Yelp review of P.J., and not of Vons. P.J. gets 5 stars. Vons gets less. Together, it equals 4 for my overall review. Here's the other info (for the store itself): The store is medium-small. They have a fair amount of inventory. I think their produce is a little pricey. The rest of the staff is average friendly, but not rude. The parking lot is big enough for customers to always find a spot. There are homeless people living in the little grassy ditch just on the side/back of the parking lot. I wouldn't park on the side next to the post office after dark. It could be risky. Sometimes I've seen a security guard out front, but it's inconsistent. I'd carry pepper spray if you are going there at night. Besides that, everything else just feels like any other grocery store. They ought to give P.J. a huge bonus for all of the customers that she is personally responsible for because of her outstanding above-and-beyond service! read more

I went in to vons today for my weekly groceries and when I was going to get in line , there was only one check stand open with about 3 people in line. I was in a hurry to take my son to a dr. Appt. so I thought it would be OK to go to 1st check stand which is 15 items or less. I mean she's just standing there with no one in line and vons should have more checkers available. Well cashier said she couldn't take me because I have more than 15 items. SORRY! I had a few extra and I even had to remove my groceries from her belt . I've been coming to this vons 15 years plus so I thought this was very rude and bad customer service! I didn't catch her name but it was today 10/3@ about 11:30. I waited back in the other line and finally another check stand opened and Kim helped me out... A pleasure. I know vons isn't the most upscale store but compared to the other stores around here they should hold themselves to a higher standard . I've been to every single Vons/Pavillions in the SFV and this one is definitely up there considering the area. They stock a fairly good selection of beer and as other people have said, they have a pretty good deli. Buying a fresh loaf of bread and some deli meats is always a good choice if you plan on going somewhere and want to save some money by bringing your own food. read more

Prices here range from average to expensive. They do have a club card that can knock down the price but nothing phenomenal. The staff is usually friendly. The store is somewhat cramped and small. The lines are normally long. The parking lot is a mess. Overall They have great organic products but other stores are starting to catch on to this trend. I come here mainly for convenience but I do not recommend doing the majority of your shopping here. Tip Decent liquor prices, almost comparable to Food 4 Less. read more
