Horrible customer service. I got a veggie sandwich today and let me tell you, it was disgusting. But first let me back, the girl who was helping me didn't understand what I wanted, had to repeat myself 100 times. Von's Market in Sylmar is a great market. The people who work there are outstanding folks. I have lived in Sylmar for 20 years and primarily shop at this market. In my 20 years of shopping there, night and day, I have never been shot, robbed, accosted, jumped, carjacked, raped, or victimized in any way that would be considered likely in a "ghetto area." Citi G. happened to be there on a day when there happened to be a robbery across the street. She sounds paranoid of a multicultural and multiracial working class neighborhood. I go to this Von's pretty much on a weekly basis since I love to cook but am also an epileptic so excluded from the roads and this grocery store is walking distance from me. I've chosen which employees I need to go to if I need help with something because service is extremely exclusive at that store. I actually saw one employee just walk away and not come back when she couldn't find what a customer was looking for. And I actually make sure to go out of my way to avoid one of the cashiers because he's so horribly rude. He's a taller skinnier bald man, who yelled at my mother once for bringing her miniature dog in after she was told she could. Ever since then he's been particularly rude to me and makes sure I notice it. I don't know if there's something wrong with him or if he's just kind of a jerk... Has completely gone downhill :( never restocks, fresh fruits and vegetables are horrible, deli and bakery never has anyone available to help you. They seem to staff minimal amounts of checkers these days so the lines are always long. The parking lot is filled with transients wandering between the cars asking for money. read more

This VONS has got to be the worst. The Firs week of every month is full and the food is fresh or at least the meat is not so spoiled. I went to Vons the third week of the mont and the have washed up meat with blood add for color . After getting the meat home and washing it before cooking, the meat had deep brown discoloration. Cannot shop here without being accosted by homeless addicts. The management does not keep them out of the store or parking lot. There is also a lack of lighting and security in the parking lot. The lines are long and the checkers are slow. Shelves aren't kept stocked. Meat dept. leaves much to be desired. Not going back. read more

Went in to get a chicken sandwich for dinner for my husband and I and I was very disappointed. They only had 1 half bread left. I asked when they would get more and the lady said the bakery is closed for today so we are not getting anymore. This was at 5:05pm. For a deli to be out that early its ridiculous. I looked at the bread that they put out for customers to buy and asked if I buy my own bread can you make the sandwich on that. She said no but I have toast back here I can make it on. I was like fine that would work. So she started to make the sandwich which at that point she said she was out of grilled chicken breast and could use the fried or tenders. I asked if she will get a new batch soon and she said No. Again this was at 5pm and they are already out of stuff and will not be getting more. That was when I was said no thank you already make a lot substitutions because you are out. Warren the manager on my first expierence at this Vons gave the most unprofessional impression of this grocery store. A friend of mine enter into this Vons to get some wine. At the register we are greeted by Warren "the manager." He does the normal greet follwed by asking me for my identification for the wine. I hand him my id which has a hole punch through it because the DMV did it after issuing me the paper temporary license as I await for my license with change of address. He then asks me if I have another ID? I responded no. He states he can't take the id. I ask why, and he states because of the hole punch, so I said , that's weird because everyone else is taking it. He then proceeds by taking the wine off the register and begins scanning the next customer. I say, wait a second, can she? (My friend had already been saying I'll pay for it.) Then he says "I cant sell to her." I ask why.. and he ignores me. One he dismissed customer service, part of that is explaining policy thoroughly, and as a manager he failed to explain basic policy when asked. Two he moved onto another task before finishing service to customer. In some cultures this would be considered rude. My friend and I just drove to a liquor store down the street where we found the same wine, five bucks less and better service. read more

This has to be the worst Vons I've been to. Unfortunately it seems to be the only reputable market in Sylmar. Every single time I shop here, there are plenty of cashiers, and yet the lines are ridiculously long! I can understand if the store was understaffed and busy, but it is like this every time I come here. Even after waiting for what feels like an eternity in line, the cashier can't even acknowledge you or let alone smile... Every single employee is slow and appearing to be hating you for giving them work. With how expensive it is to shop here they should be kissing your ass. I would not recommend. read more

I absolutely hate this store. The product placement is ridiculous, one side of the store they have the jugs of water but then bottle water is in the alcohol section. Like really? This is their hope, "well since I'm down here picking up bottle water why not buys some beer." I know product placement yada yada yada. But this has to be among the worst that I have seen. Plus, they lock up their alcohol mixers! News Alert Vons, even if I was 16 years old I could buy bloody Mary or margarita mix, this makes no sense at all. The button for the alcohol section is ALWAYS out of service. So you have to go all the way to the front and hopefully find someone to help you. The aisles are super small with large shopping carts. So only 1 person can feasibly fit down the aisle at a time. The smell from the meat/seafood department is nasty. I have to plug my nose when shopping in that section. This place is wayyy overpriced, even there specials are not that special. Unfortunately my Ralph's closed so I shop at Food 4 Less. Which actually isn't that bad. They don't have everything but they have a nice selection and prices are good. I also hit up Costco. read more

Apparently Vons/Safeway doesn't care about this store. The disregard is so obvious as soon as you drive into the parking lot. It's dirty, understaffed, often out of items in the weekly ad, cluttered, and totally mismanaged. Checkers (with the exception of the old-timers) are more concerned about texting and looking at their phones than helping customers. Today I walk in and there is trash overflowing by the front doors, no hand baskets by the door (they're all stacked up at the registers, which makes it awkward to try to squeeze by customers in line to reach one), the produce shelves were bare in a lot of places, there were abandoned shopping carts all over the store, lines to check out backed up into the food aisles, and there are always people outside soliciting for something and today was no exception. I guess they assume that Sylmar residents are ghetto and don't care, but we do and that's why we don't shop here if we can help it. Drive a little further to Granada Hills or Tujunga if you want a decent Vons. read more

The it grocery store that I come weekly to very clean and friendly staff. Their produce is always fresh and they always have great deals. I had the worst experience at this store I went with my wife as she was trying to buy detergent that was on sale & I bought multiple items of the same item that had no limit on the weekly sales add and the cashier named Rosemary was incredibly rude & honestly has the worst attitude I've ever experienced in any grocery store., Rosemary was disrespectful on how she treated me and how she forcefully told me there was a limit of 4 items on sale when the sales add clearly never indicated that there was a limit .... she needs to be coached on how to treat customers and give a little respect .,, The reason I go vons and not Vallarta is for the quality & customer service , and now because of this woman's treatment towards me I WILL NEVER SHOP AT This store ..., I rather drive to Valencia to shop at Ralph's and get the respect I deserve after being a customer since 1999 vons has lost me a customer . read more

This store can be very expensive with very little variety of items. But it's the cashier P.J. that makes coming here great!! She really gets to know you & makes you feel like family! She's amazingly nice to my 3 kids & always let's me know about coupons to help me save $$ on those expensive items! The store it self is ok...not great but this store has been here a long time...so it's kinda old & could use a make over. i hate this store. manager (warren) is sarcastic, rude and unfriendly. how i wish he would be transfer to another location . one of the few times i had to come here, i decided after the awful customer service by him that i wouid not buy the items and told the cashier to cancel my transaction, cashier remove all the items from my grocery bag/purse and as i was walking out of store, greg the manager came over and did not ask permission to search my bag he simply approach me and open my grocery/purse bag, he though obviously i was shoplifting. well let me tell you he must of felt like an idiot after he found nothing and simply walked away back to his register no apology no nothing. i waited until he was done with his customer and approach him to tell him next time to ask for permission to search a customers bag and that he had made me feel embarrass for his unprofessional reaction. i hate coming to shop here avoid at all cost until service improves unless you are willing to shop not only for your grocery but the rude attitude. sadly he is a manager and obviously not much will be done, however i will complain to corporate. i waited to long to do this since i wanted to give him time to improve his customer services skills which obviously has not. read more
