Had a great lunch at Voodoo Taco in Aksarben with my partner! He ordered the build-your-own beef burrito with Cajun rice and refried beans, and I tried the Baja fish taco, fried chicken taco, and cilantro rice. The entrees were great, especially the fish taco--love the sriracha mayo sauce and avocado on it! The cilantro rice was oddly bland, even with tomatoes and cotijo cheese crumbles on it. But that's not what we were there for anyways. They have four kinds of coke on the machine (diet, regular, sugar free, cherry) with limited other options for soda. But I'm a cherry coke girlie, so I'm not complaining. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. It's a grab-your-own setup for drinks and silverware, and when one of the employees noticed I hadn't picked up a fork yet, she brought one over without me even asking. It was such a small gesture, but it really stood out. Love when people go the extra mile just to be kind. We'll definitely be back! read more

Went here on a Thursday night before a UNO volleyball game and it was not busy. Kudos to the young man that took our order at the counter. He was friendly, helpful and then hopped back in the kitchen to help cook the order. He brought everything out and really went above and beyond to make sure we were all set up for success. We ordered and grabbed a seat. Food was ok. Burrito was pretty full, but basic. Nachos were sizable but got very soggy. Tots were the best thing which is odd to say at a Mexican restaurant. Service was fine for a counter spot. It was fine for what we were looking for at the time but wouldn't seek this spot out in the future. read more

I'm from Texas and fairly picky. I *would* come back here for tacos. The seasoning has the perfect kick to it. The rice and beans were acceptable, the queso was mid. I'll make a point to try the guac and salsa in the future. If they play Packers games this year, we may make it a weekly thing. Boyfriend also enjoyed his steak and blackened chicken street tacos. They use to be sooooo good. We went nearly every week. However, they choose to nearly close every location so we stopped going. We stopped in today. The queso now is nacho cheese out of a can, margeritta taste like water, service is terrible not one person stayed once all location started closing. Pico taste like rotel, the season on the chips also changed to im very unsure. Instead of portions to fill one up you get maybe 1/4 cup of rice in the bowls and no tortillas anymore. I'm so happy I kept that off because it would have given me BBQ beef vibes. The nachos were so so so good. Queso was awesome and so were the chips, loved the beef. The girl working offered us 2 different salsas- habanero and regular. Also a southwest ranch. All 3 were a great addition to my nachos. My husband got a brisket burrito which he also enjoyed. Do not bother trying to book a catering event from Voodoo. I tried repeatedly to schedule one - by sending a request through their website, calling every day for a week before the deadline to schedule the catering - and never received a response from the online request and never had a phone call answered or a call returned. The voicemail seems to go to someone's personal cell phone. It left us searching for alternatives that were not our first choices, and it was incredibly frustrating to just never hear anything back. The place seems mismanaged and is unprofessional in every way when it comes to catering. And then, to top it all off, I received a mass email announcing, "We cater!" about two weeks after the event we needed them for. So, it seems like they'll collect your email for marketing purposes, but then just never provide the service they advertise. read more

Visited voodoo on a whim after a recommendation (and my favorite taco shops were still not open for the day). It's in a nice location in Aksarben village, with many UNO students traveling the sidewalks. Parking is a bit limited (mostly streetside), so park where you can and be ready for a possible short walk. Ordered 3 different tacos (Baja shrimp, pork carnitas, and barbacoa), a taco salad, chips with queso, and a Pacifico (on tap!). It's order at the counter, but the service is good for the type of place it is, and it is clean and comfortable inside with plenty of bench or table seating. Also a few outdoor tables! The tacos were average (a bit dry with no salsa), they seemed to be trying hard to be some sort of new modern taco, but just fell short. The carnitas taco was a bit dry, the Baja shrimp was fried shrimp (as advertised...but wasn't working for me...Grilled would have been better), and the barbacoa was just slathered in sauce. Maybe I'm more a classic taco guy, but Voodoo just seemed to be trying hard, but just missing the mark. Packed with flavor stuffed with amazing refried beans that super flavorful Cajun rice stood out again as it did in the rice bowl. Again crispy chicken moist and crunchy. Also a very unique vegan option with the jackfruit. Taco,burrito, or rice bowl. 4 dollar beers, 6 dollar margaritas, 5 dollar kids meals. Big screen tvs from every vantage point. This is one of my favorites places in Aksarben Village. I had the Green Chili Port (excellent) and the Brisket (meh). The chips and queso are pretty good. They do have a full bar so no need to go thirsty. My daughter makes me take her here every-time I visit her at College of St. Marys. I came here late on Saturday night with a few buddies! Voodoo is located in Aksarben near the corner of 67th and Center, next to Spirit World. It's a great taco shop that kind of reminds me of Torchi's! I enjoy a lot of the tacos on the menu and really like their queso! My favorite taco is the Brisket but I really enjoy anything spicy that they have on the menu. The most interesting, and a favorite of some of the employees is the alligator taco! Most tacos are going to be about $4-$5 so it's a little expensive compared to other spots. If you want a quality taco, I would recommend this place, but know that if you're going for 2-3 tacos, you can expect to start paying about 10-15 for the meal. I think most people stick with two!
