The restaurant is always "booked" with reservations, yet there are always available tables and bar seats. The oysters were probably the best part of our meal. They were only good. The ahi tuna wasn't great. My drink wasn't great. The menu was small. The inside decor was filled with tables and chairs that looked like 1950's garage sale items. The food was way overpriced, very small in size, and the atmosphere was awful. This cute little place has been on my radar for a while and I'm glad I finally got to try!!! There is an indoor and outdoor seating area that just supports these calm, beautiful vibes. First of all it's difficult to find off of Vester normally I like places off of beaten path but where this restaurant is situated and parking not so available doesn't help this reviewer. There is a time limit on how long can sit at a table Which is understandable considering pandemic, being short staffed because no one wants to work, and how small and cramped the place is. I found most of the staff to be quite pleasant and working very hard to get food out to the other guests. Our waitress who for sake of mercy will call "J" reminded me of an uppty sorority girl whose fake politeness was forced only because daddy cancelled her credit cards and she is forced to work. It always ruins the dining experience to have that snooty condescension approach the table. The food itself was in very small portions and not comparable to the price we paid either! Everything is a la carte. I ordered off the special menu and my fish was over cooked and dry when I mentioned this to J it was made clear that she could take it back but it wouldn't extend our time at the table..... um... so I have to wolf it down by time gets back? Never mind I'll eat the overcooked fish. The salmon dip and oysters were good. But the fish the dip is served in is a tiny ceramic bowl akin to a shot glass. Lovely weather, and the same teasing "something reallllly good is inside" is obvious the second you park and walk towards Voyager. Inside, the food... just wow. Have you ever had broiled oysters? I was well and truly lost. My GPS took me so far off course because of traffic I could not figure out where I was despite the fact that I worked in the area for several years. With a reservation and a waiting friend, I called the restaurant for some guidance. The hostess kindly counseled me back from where I was. I can definitely understand how I passed this unassuming, industrial space, mistaking it for a garage instead of a well-regarded restaurant. Luckily, on this lovely weeknight, the restaurant was empty and the small private parking lot still had a few empty spots. I was grateful. My friend had some work to complete later on in the evening, as did I, so we had not planned for a long dinner together - just a wonderful meal and an even better conversation. The restaurant is relatively small. The bar filled up fairly quickly, starting from the patio and extending in. The dining area was also small with cozy tables lined up against banquette seating. It was still fairly early so the restaurant was only semi-filled. The server went over the specials and the oyster menu. Since the latter was a specialty for the restaurant, we were both curious to try, at least, one. I selected the Eel Lake oyster which was plump and had a nice texture. Next, we shared the tuna and toast small plate. Even though I am trying to minimize carbs (and actually forgot that toast = carbs), I did not regret ordering and enjoying this dish. Tuna chunks, chopped eggs, and a mix of mayo and chili topped a thick slice of toasted bread. So good! For my entrée, I had the crab and grits. Since the portion size was small and grits are a good source of minerals and healthy carbs, I went for it. And I am glad I did; the grits were delicious. The hearty crab meat had a lovely flavor and texture. The spicy drawn butter sauce did somewhat overwhelm the mild and sweet crab. Not only did I appreciate the turn-by-turn directions from the hostess, but the server was also warm and helpful. He checked in on us multiple times during the meal but also let us enjoy our conversation when we were done with the meal but not the chatter. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot for quite a long time, and tonight was the night! My friend called me with an awesome surprise...Voyager reservation had been made. It's very challenging to get a spot and we lucked out. It's a small, quaint restaurant with limited seating and a bar area. They also have a patio outside, which Is pretty cool, but it was rather chilly this evening. We decided to order a few oysters. They had both the East Coast and West Coast varieties. We both agreed that we like the flavor of the East Coast oysters but the size of the West Coast. I'm not a huge oyster expert, but his shell game is strong. We then ordered hush puppies, a lobster tortellini and a fish sandwich and of course our drinks were amazing! The bartender was great! The dishes are rather small for the price...reminds me of tapas style, small plates. So, be prepared to order a few different items and share. It's a win, win...all this yummy food. Wow. Just wow. Came for dinner at happy hour. Patron at the bar recommended the Fried Shiso with caviar and creme fraiche which was amazing and unique. Service at the bar was excellent and friendly. Peel and eat chilled shrimp had great flavor and my wife loved the roasted eggplant with garlic sauce on flatbread. She also had four of the $2 happy hour oysters and gave them a big thumbs up. My expectations were high, but the experience was just ok. We made a reservation for 5:15 but unfortunately traffic was awful. Called the restaurant to let them know we were running 10 min late. We were told they cant guarantee our reservation, even if its just 10 min. They charge your card when you make a reservation, so this seems extreme. Got to the restaurant at 5:25pm, was told they would not seat us until all three of us arrived. The place was empty. Was also informed that they have another reservation for our table at 7pm, so we need to make sure to finish by then! I get maximizing revenue but all of these issues combined did not make us feel welcome and set a very negative tone. The rest of out party arrived by 5:35. The manager did agree to sit us as an "exception". Many empty tables all around. I ordered 12 oysters, red wine and beef tartar for myself. The food was good. Everything was very fresh. The beef tartar had too much going on for me, all the extra sauce overpowered the dish. I am glad I tried it but I wouldnt order it again. My table mates had pasta and gumbo, they both enjoyed their dishes. Everything is tapas style, so expect small servings. We left at 6:45. There were eight empty tables and an empty bar. First time visiting voyager, and won't be my last. This place has been on my list for a while & it has good reviews for a reason. The seafood is fresh & Service is great. We sat at the bar & the bartender /waiter was quite attentive & had suggestions for what to try. We didn't try the cocktails but they looked amazing hand crafted. Got the grilled shrimp, was delicious & felt fresh. Oysters were really good, there's a lot of different options from all over the coast, I much prefer oysters from the Westcoast. Also go the chilli crab noodles, the noodles were tender & tons of crabs in the sauce, the Sichuan pepper definitely gives you a weird numbing feeling, it's something to experience, but quite weird if you've never had It, but it wasn't spicy. Just odd to me, I'm not into the peppers but I know others enjoy it. The Manhattan clam chowder was very different, my first time having it, since I've only have new England style. It was good, came with a side of bread & seafood, definitely filling. I've only been here so far for happy hour but what a happy hour it was! $2 oysters, $3 ales, $4 drinks, and $5 wines. We stuck to the cocktails and the oysters. No surprisingly, everthing was great. The cocktails were delicious and the oysters? Oh buddy. SUPER fresh and featuring a nice selection of east and west coast varieties. I've come to realize that I'm more of a west coast oyster kinda gal and they had a plentiful selection, served on ice with a delicious mignonette. Bartender was SO nice and helped me pick out a delicious beverage. The cocktail menu is smallish but smart and creative, I had the Northwest Passage which was a tasty mix of long road aquavit, cava, hibiscus, lingonberry jam, and lemon. They also have a nicely curated list of beer, wine, and sparklings. Came right at 5:30pm on a Tuesday and this place was already hopping. My friend beat me by a few minutes and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar for us and by the time I arrived it was full and most of the tables were occupied. An hour later, when we were leaving, there was a sizable wait for bar seats and formal tables. Can't wait to get back to enjoy more off their menu. But I'll be sure to make a reservation! read more

This place has went down a little bit. We came here on a night for oysters and tried to get some other menu items for nightcap. The restaurant was probably have full with about 25 people and about an hour and 30 minutes before the end of food service. You could tell that the look from the bartender and hostess was oh great when we walked in LOL. To make up for this we even tried a few small plates out of respect to try and make it worth their while and the kitchen staying open... even though there were still a few more tables. But sadly these other small plates without a doubt we're lacking given quantity quality and price. The only reason to come to this restaurant is definitely the oysters which we're prepared well and you could taste the difference. I don't think we would come back for any other time other than happy hour given the slow service and demeanor of the staff even though they weren't extremely busy. There was also one staff member being very romantic with a customer at the end of the bar Overall just not what we expected 4 the money being charged at a place like this. The Ambiance is sparse with a nautical theme which is expected but Extremely Loud. Bottom line. I would still like to support them they do one thing and they do it well. First time visiting Voyager since the pre-COVID days yesterday and it was a really nice experience. They are only offering dine-in service on their patio (which they've expanded modestly into the parking lot area). You place your order inside at the bar, and food & drinks are brought out to you as ready. Nice vibe in the patio area. All the staff was super friendly as has always been the case here. We shared the Michigan beet salad, proper fish & chips, and hush puppies. Everything was great. The beet salad was honestly a value for the price - it was more than enough for us to split as a starter. Huge chunks of perfectly roasted beets along with marcona almonds and creamy feta. Delish. The fish & chips and hush puppies were perfection - ultra crispy but not at all greasy. I've been itching for *good* fish & chips and this scratched it. I also recommend the strawberry frosé. I drank two of them, brain freeze be damned. The only drawback to the current set-up is that everything is served on/with disposables - plates, cutlery, cups are all paper/plastic. It really doesn't suit the high quality of the food, but of course, I understand why they need to do things this way for now. Anyways, go! Get there before these nice warm days are gone for the season. You get to support an excellent local business and its hard-working staff, and you also get an excellent meal to enjoy safely outdoors. My boyfriend and I went the other night and it was great! The service was perfect, food was super good - highly recommend the broccolini on hibachi and hot crab dip. We came at the tail end of happy hour so will definitely have to come earlier next time. They also have a good amount of spirit free cocktails so if you/your friends don't drink or are doing dry January it's a great spot! The setup is sort of unique - you go up to the cashier, place your order, grab your drinks from the bar (which seemed like they were ready before the words were even out of my mouth) and then go outside to your table to wait for your food. And the food is definitely worth waiting for. We started with the dungeness crab and the smoked salmon pate...both were amazing. Then we went for the lobster roll (Connecticut style) and the hush puppies...even better! I am an east coast seafood snob, but this was arguably some of the best seafood I have ever had in Michigan! The big ones are amazing, the small ones not so much. I'd come here again just for the oysters. BTW, their sauce containers for the Tabasco sauce sucks. Count get the sauce out no matter how hard I shake. I dare one of the employees to try to shake that sauce out! Whitefish dip is amazing. Just get it. Shrimp pasta just OK. Kind of sour but idk. I've been to waterside restaurants all over south Florida, and Voyager blows most of them out of the water - no pun intended. The lobster roll is also a happy hour exclusive, and it's one of the best I've had. Waitstaff is very attentive and they care about your experience. Voyager is an outstanding restaurant. I love oysters and Voyager was there to accommodate. We were presented with an oyster menu with about 12 different varieties from Canada and both US coasts. They were fresh, incredibly tasty and served with a nice mignonette sauce and we were able to get cocktail sauce as well with extra horseradish. The rest of the meal was served in shareable smaller plates. Our Caesar salad was perfectly made, well balanced with garlicky dressing, Parmesan cheese, croutons that were crispy yet tender in the middle and anchovies. The shells with crab meat was made with a tomato sauce and had lots of wonderfully sweet crab meat. The star were the scallops. Cooked to perfection and served with a butter sauce had a hint of bacon flavor. One of my favorite tastes of the year. Service was outstanding. Voyager is small and I would recommend reservations. Easy to find if you plug the address in your maps. You will not miss it. It was not overpacked but the prices were above any place that has seafood as their specialty. The below is based only on my perspective of having a once in a year event to treat, reviews read to prepare, and expectations, and is not to judge any staff members. Hook and Reel, Fishbones, The Fish Company, even Shoguns..etc. have actual large portions of food with sides to add (like noodles, rice, extra protein...etc.) and is literally shareable between two or more people + leftovers. There is nothing shareable here. We got the lobster dip, $16, and were hopeful of it after having awesome crab/artichoke/lobster dips! But it wasn't even an inch deep of sauce, lobster was found, kind of, if you spooned for it, there were four pieces of bread. That's it. They should give you the skillet after you get to the bottom in less than 3 minutes. $27 for basic fettuccine? The description mentioned Maine lobster, caviar..etc. is that what the cost was for, the caviar? Random cubes of lobster? There was hardly any lobster and searched for it after realizing that was part of the dish later. There was more in the previous dip. I'm not sure what the caviar was for?... for fun? The sauce was plain with not much of anything. They did not offer any cheese to add or any salt or pepper if you'd like. You could make this at home without the lobster/caviar and there's no doubt it'd be better even if you have an Alfredo/Arrabbiata sauce in a jar and know how to boil noodles. I had asked if they could make it spicer before selecting the only pasta dish they had at this time, they said they weren't sure but would see what they could do. Looking at the prices already and knowing they'd charge you $4 for asking for extra bread based on reviews, caused a "don't worry about it". You mean you don't have crushed red pepper or possibly black pepper? Anything? Then the "Cioppino". Decent. $29. Not worth it. Some clams were only clam shells. No clams. There was some sort of fish at the bottom of it. Thanks for the mussels (similar to the clams, some were just empty shells)? When the fettuccine came, I stirred it around in this sauce and that helped to make it more flavorful. I'm only being critical because of the extreme price, small sizes, and overall un-satisfaction. As a person who doesn't eat much and has one meal a day. The only part that was filling was the bread, which was shared between two. There have been foods that make you go "wow" and time stops for a moment. Don't waste your time. It doesn't stop here. We each got one drink. Also, save your money. We went to McDonald's afterwards since we were still hungry and the fries were delicious and cost less than $3. The Voyager does not have fries or any sides to pick from, by the way, unless they change the menu next week. It was curious to try and now we know where not to go and spend (waste) $108. Service was normal and we left a more than decent tip since it is not in the fault/control of waiting staff for the menu/food/price. read more

Not much to look at inside, and a little hard to find. But once inside some of the best seafood (primarily) around! We had the oysters, the shrimp, the mussel dish, scallops, swordfish, the pork belly and the kale salad. Drinks were food with a couple draft beers to chase those oysters. Although the carrot cake was tasty, it was wrapped in a white chocolate that was a bit heavy. The hush puppies were great but a couple of us weren't crazy about the spices on the potato wedges. Although we didn't get the crab legs the presentation looked awesome. Definitely a place to visit if you want a friendly funky delicious dinner. read more
