Mabel gray is always such a delight. I love exploring all the combinations of flavors that they come up with on their tasting menu. Most recent tasting menu was so delicious and unique. Enjoyed sitting at the bar and people watching. The service is always top notch and welcoming!

Wow! What an amazing experience!!! Thank you to Kylie for exceptional service and helpful recommendations. I took my mom here for her birthday and it's a great place for special occasions. Reservations open up 30 days in advance and I'm really happy I was able to secure one. My mom had been wanting to come here for years and it definitely exceeded expectations. The menu changes every few weeks and everything was fantastic. The best clam chowder I've ever had! Manila clams in the shell, cream, onion, celery, cubed crunchy potatoes, crispy oyster crackers that never got soggy, and jalapeños that added the perfect kick. We also tried the mushroom bisque, an earthy vegan option with a coconut milk base. The Plancha bread paired nicely with both soups, with flavors of roasted garlic, oregano, and za'atar. The Szechuan broccolini had a lovely spice and crisp texture, with jalapeño, garlic, basil, and mint. The Carbonarancini dish was a combination of Arancini and Carbonara. Balls of deliciousness, eggy garlic aioli, and shaved prosciutto. Really interesting! I appreciate the inventive menu. For dessert, we had the carrot cheesecake, which was a lovely combination of carrot cake and cheesecake. French press coffee to go along with it. Cocktails were fantastic too! I loved the Bada Bing with vodka, cherry cordial, chamomile, and orange bitters. Sweet and flavorful. My mom enjoyed the Las Frambuesas with Mezcal and raspberry cordial. The atmosphere is so cool and moody. Gorgeous stained glass windows give the space a sexy, warm, red glow. Candles are sprinkled throughout the space and impressive medieval lighting fixtures hang from the ceiling. It feels magical and intimate. The food is high quality and creative, but there is no dress code. Some people were dressed casually and others dressed up. Warm and welcoming vibes. I definitely recommend. Special memories created here!

It's been almost 8 years since my last review of Mabel Gray, so I figured I was overdue for an update for what I think is THE most consistently great high-end restaurant in metro Detroit. From the incredible food (favorites this past time were the cooked oysters, mustard chicken cutlet, and key lime pie), to the attentive service, to the great cocktail list, to the amazing sommelier (Paulina) and my favorite Champagne list in Michigan, to the relaxed vibe despite all of the above, this place is truly something special. Truly a must-visit for any foodies and wine aficionados living in or visiting the area.

Have been looking forward to trying Mabel Gray for months and was very excited to finally get around to it. Our service was incredible, and even though we were stuck with a 4pm reservation, we had a great time. Our waiter suggested we do everything as a shared plate, and I definitely think that makes more sense than ordering individual items for yourself because everything was so small (and there weren't a lot of entree-style dishes- only things I saw that seemed like they would serve as an individual entree was the fish and the steak). However, even then, I feel like it would be hard to eat here with more than 3 adults- we ordered 4-5 items to share between the 3 of us and I still left a little hungry (I have a cavernous stomach, but still). Either way, I would return- the small portions were still good (not mindblowing) and we had a good time.

I had the mushroom soup and cajun smashed potatoes with a fruity mocktail. The soup was velvety smooth and tasted delicious. The potatoes were tasty as well and of course, the mocktail was really good. My server was very informative about the dishes I ordered (seeing it was my first time dining here) and friendly. The ambiance was mellow, but there were still a lot of customers (which says a lot about the food and service). I will definitely come back.

Mabel Gray continues to be one of the most special dining experiences in Michigan--full stop. We did the tasting menu and every course felt intentional, seasonal, and deeply thoughtful without ever tipping into preciousness. Highlights included the tuna carpaccio with winter citrus and pistachio, a black truffle Caesar that somehow managed to feel both indulgent and restrained, and a butternut squash & Maine lobster bisque that I'm still thinking about. The American wagyu beef was cooked perfectly, rich without being overwhelming, and beautifully balanced by the accompaniments. What really sets Mabel Gray apart is how cohesive the experience feels. You can see the care in the open kitchen, the pacing of the courses, and the way flavors build on one another throughout the night. Service was warm, knowledgeable, and unpretentious--exactly what you want for a meal like this. This is a place for celebrating, lingering, and appreciating food that's done with heart and skill. Expensive, yes--but absolutely worth it for a special night out. Michigan is lucky to have this restaurant.

You cannot find a better dinner experience than Mabel Gray. We've been going for years, & it is always outstanding. Staff is attentive & professional. Vibe is casual. We generally get the chef's tasting menu & beverage pairing--if we got in more often, maybe we'd switch it up. We had quite a few courses & were extremely happy with our food & wine/beverage pairings.

The dining room is cozy, the lighting is relaxing, the staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, and the food... We went with the tasting menu and I ate things I would never have ventured to order otherwise: oysters, swordfish, mushroom soup and things I would have absolutely picked for myself: kimchi apple, griddled haloumi, grilled lamb chop. My favorites were the swordfish skewers with tzatziki and warm mediterranean flavors, the kimchi apple dish with smoky bacon and roasted peanuts, and the brown butter caramel blondie. I was not a fan on the mushroom soup, but I am a big baby about mushrooms to begin with and I'm proud of myself for trying, lol... My husband, however, ranked it in his top two courses and finished mine for me! My only nitpick was that a couple times, when my husband finished his course before me, our server cleared his plate while I still had two bites left and I felt a bit rushed. Regardless of that very petty note, service was great, every course was impressive, and we left very full and happy. The constantly rotating menu concept is designed to provide a truly unique experience with every visit and this kitchen is packed with the talent to live up to that ambitious goal time and time again.

This place is incredible. The testing menu is worth it to do. You will experience food you wouldn't have ordered otherwise and it's cooked to perfection. Staff is also friendly as well. Loved it and would go back again. One of my favorite restaurants now.

Food, service, and vibes were all phenomenal. Makes a great spot for a special celebration or date. My personal favorite was their steak and the sauce that came with it. Very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Absolutely loved everything here.

If heaven could be served on a plate, it would be crafted by the chefs at Mabel Gray. My partner and I just celebrated our seven-year anniversary here, and it couldn't have been more perfect. He's been wanting to take me to Mabel Gray since we met in college, but the timing never worked out--until now. When he saw Vegan Month was coming up, he finally snagged us a reservation. There is nothing like the joy of being able to eat every single dish that arrives at your table without hesitation or worry. That alone made the night unforgettable. The food was absolutely phenomenal--every plate was a work of art. If I could have licked them clean without raising eyebrows, I would have! Each dish was bursting with flavors that I'm still dreaming about. The staff were equally incredible. Everyone we interacted with was kind, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic. The chefs who personally explained the dishes radiated pride in their craft, and rightfully so. To top it off, I had some of the best kombucha I've ever tasted. Thank you to the entire Mabel Gray team for making our anniversary so special. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for incredible food, warm ambience, and an experience to remember.

We tried the 8 course tasting menu during August. It was delicious and certainly a good food experience. 1. Cornbread dish - what a strong Start to the menu this was. This was our favorite dish of the night. Great textures, and very rich cut with the acidity of the pickle. 2. Cucumber tomato salad - this was a very "me" dish as it was reminiscent of the Cucumber and tomato salads I've been making at home. I love sumac and the dressing was a good balance. That said, it was reminiscent of a dish I make at home and I do seek out foods I cannot make at home when eating out. 3. Summer pepper soup - another stand out dish, bright, beans had a good bite to them, I love giardinara, a little smokiness? 4. Kimchi fried black rice - love the carrot kimchi, good spice level, rice was well cooked, nice texture from the tempura, warm spices and comforting. My partner said it wasn't a summer dish. Could have done with some tempeh perhaps? 5. Grilled romaine cesear - this had a challenging flavor at first but then we got used to it and enjoyed it more. I think it was white pepper perhaps. It was peppery and I do enjoy pepper. 5.5 plum sherbet bite - really good, bright and tasty 6. Griddled broccoli with lemony tofu mousse and "cheese" beer sauce - i liked the light creaminess of the tofu mouse and i did like the beer sauce overall the dish was alright. 7. Country cookie pie - whole oats, caramely, nice coconut sherbet on top, satisfying way to end the meal Overall, a great meal, but we will probably come back in a non vegan month to try some more. I love vegan food and this was delicious but a couple dishes did feel a bit like, here is a veggie on a plate instead of elevating said veggie? Maybe I'm being critical. I really appreciated the written out menu because I can never remember when they just tell you tableside. The atmosphere was very red because the windows were red tinted. I liked it and it seemed nice and clean. The waiter was informative, polite, down to earth, not fussy.

I can't think of a better place to celebrate birthday month than Mabel Gray Burger Week! Of course, we came for the burger but the oysters were absolutely delicious!!!! The lobster pasta was WOWZA....and of course, nobody can make a classic American burger stand out like Chef James! It was perfect and those Cajun curly fries....amazing! My friend and I split everything and the burger was gone before I could take a pic...lol! Let's not forget, the cocktails...my mango margarita was outstanding! What a way to celebrate this next year of life!

Dining for one for the chefs tasting menu. Is a table preferred over the bar?

I’ve only ever eaten at the bar as a single diner, but I would prefer a table given a choice as there are no backs on the stools.

Which is better or preferred for a table of 2, heated patio or indoor reservation?

I think the indoor reservation is a lot better were you don't have to worry about the wind blowing in your foods or drinks or if it's to windy cold outside or any insects,, you know but it's your choice whatever makes you and your friends family…

    Is there a dress code?

    Casual

What are the 7 courses and is it a set of dishes or do we get to pick and how many does it feed?

The tasting menu has about 7 courses and the food is set (you cannot substitute but possibly could upgrade if really needed). Each tasting menu is for 1 person.

How long does the tasting menu meal take? We have 2 hours from our reservation time of 5pm before a show at the music theatre at 7pm and trying to figure out if we will have enough time. TIA!

The tasting menu is 7 courses. Two hours could be enough. Are you ok with completing each course in less than 15 minutes? The pace is impacted by how long your group takes to savor and discuss each course. I would let them know your time…

Do you need reservations to sit at the bar?

they take bar seating reservations. I would call ahead and check. If you have more than 2 people in your party, make a reservation or be prepared to wait a long time. The place seats 43 and they manage their seat real estate appropriately.

My wife ordered the Beet & Salmon Salad, while I chose the Crispy Chicken Club with white cheddar and house-smoked bacon. The sandwich was absolutely incredible--hands down the best crispy chicken club I've ever had. The chicken was perfectly crispy, and the combination of flavors was outstanding. I also stole a few bites of my wife's salad and was pleasantly surprised by the yellow beets. I'd only ever had red beets before, and both varieties were prepared beautifully. As we followed our greeter to our table I kept screaming in my mind "no no no no no not that table no!" and she sat us at a table in full blasting sun. Nevermind the fact that there was a whole shaded section in the back part of the patio area. The rest of my group said it was fine and a beam of sun slowly bore a hole through my chest. Drink orders were up. I ordered a fabulous cross between a Moscow Mule and a Mojito. A+++ for the drinks. Mine was loaded with fresh mint from their garden. Same grade for our waitress who explained the drinks in detail and ended with "ugh- are you sure you want to sit at this table straight in the sun?" The other two said it was fine. I was ready to move, but was out voted. She continued to check in regularly and brought extra water. Most items on the menu were hot. I considered the fish, but we all landed on appetizers and we would just bounce from place to place for bites and drinks. We ordered the charcuterie board and the lavender lemon whip with bread and cucumbers for the 3 of us. The charcuterie board was the large version and had minimal offerings. It wasn't full and pretty. It was little piles of each thing on a board. This one definitely wasn't making it into Better Homes and Gardens magazine. There was a little pile of mixed nuts, a little pile of lose green grapes, a little pile of lose red grapes - not all grapes pristine or large and none were on the vine. There were 3 little piles of cubed cheese and 2 types of sliced sausage and sliced pepperoni. There were 8 crackers that were wheat thin size. This matters because we had some onion jam on the board and a nice serving of mustard. There really wasn't anything to put them on except for the 8 little crackers. That part was weird. These weren't elevated offerings. I could have picked up any of these at Walmart. They were not elevated quality either. We also got a lavender lemon infused whip which was their answer to tzatziki sauce. It was excellent but again, we were given so much of the sauce without a bunch to put it on. The cucumbers were sliced lengthways and there was a lovely bread that tasted like sourdough. There was 6 pieces of bread, and these were not particularly large pieces. A lot more would have been needed to use all of the sauce they gave. The proportions were off. All together the bill was over $100 for the 3 drinks and appetizers. If I ever did go back I won't order food based on what I experienced. There are too many other great options within walking distance.

I let her know what was missing and she said it was her fault and asked if I wanted it fixed. I said yeah and she went and got a cold piece of cheese and slice of onion and put it on a plate and gave to me to put on my own burger. I'd expected a little bit better service and I'm certainly not someone who demands top tier service from every spot. Fries were crispy but needed some parm or an aioli sauce to dip in. Also minor note but I had some fries left on my plate and when she came to collect plates I had food in my mouth so I couldn't say anything but she took the plate and my fries! They should always ask if there's any food left on the plate. Burger was decent overall, but definitely nothing special. Environment was cool and I'm sure they have got some other delicious items on the menu but for the price paid and service received, I'd go somewhere else next time.

Since we were there early, it was quiet which was nice. Would definitely return in the future the next time I am in Michigan.

From the moment we walked in, you could feel it. Great music, lively crowd, and just an overall fun atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing -- everything was plated beautifully and smelled even better. Even just watching dishes hit the tables around us had me planning what I'm ordering next time. What's cool is I'm actually in the area pretty often on Sundays because I go to a laundromat nearby, and it always looks like they're hosting a really solid brunch crowd. After seeing the vibe firsthand, I can definitely see that being a go-to brunch spot. They also keep things exciting throughout the week. Every Thursday at 7 PM, they host trivia with Jonathan from Quizzo -- six rounds covering different topics with chances to win prizes like gift cards. That's the kind of midweek plan that turns a regular Thursday into something to look forward to. And if that's not enough, axe throwing is part of the experience too, in partnership with Detroit Axe Ferndale. Axe throwing has seriously become one of the most fun social activities out right now, and having expert Axe Masters guide you through it makes it even better. There's nothing like that satisfying thunk when the axe hits the target. Between the food, the drinks, the games, and the overall energy, The Corner Grill is more than just a bar and grill -- it's an experience. Definitely a spot I'll be back to.

The food is not the main attraction here, but we thought it was surprisingly pretty good. The burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The garlic green beans were delicious, but the portion size was comical. There were seven tiny green beans on the plate. We did order a second round to get our fill of veggies. They have a "gamemaster" who helps you select from the hundreds of games they have available. You can reserve a game table online in advance for $3 per person and that reserves you two hours of game play time. The restrooms are a little nightmarish. Literally in a dark, damp basement. Other than that, really enjoyed our evening here.
