Finally had the pleasure to visit the all vegan Le Voyeur in downtown Olympia. In addition to hosting shows and events on a regular basis, they have a hearty regular menu of burgers, hot dogs, sammiches, wings and fries and on some weekends .. they run absolutely drool worthy specials. We were visiting a dear vegan friend in Olympia last night which served as the perfect occasion to visit Le Voyeur for the first time (although our friend had been there before). I was super excited to try their weekend special, Kimchi Melt, consisting of Kimchi, bacun, caramelized onions, gochujang mayo, impossible patty and melted cheez on grilled sourdough. The sammich was a beautiful mess and a fork was a definite necessity to devour everything that dropped down to the plate. Admittedly, my picture did not begin to do this sammich justice so I'm including a picture of their FB post as well. I'm not sure what type of bacun they used for their sammiches but it was amazing, great flavor and texture, really adds a lot to the meal. In addition, their garlic fries were yummy ... can't really go wrong with those! Their Carolina BBQ Wings were nothing short of amazing, a great chew and flavor as they pull apart from the center sugarcane center ("bone") and can be ordered with a choice of either Ranch or Bleu Cheez dressing. There's a quite a few super compelling choices for all vegan establishments when stopping by Olympia. This definitely needs to be on your list and is the only one that you'll find open late night. read more

Definitely more of a place for greasy bar food than the pre-show dinner we came for, but it definitely hit the spot for that. Luckily came on a night with no live music, though I think it's frequent here, so there was just some movies on TV. Service was great, really nice bartender. Date night with baby daddy. This place is everything I love about Olympia. It is art from people with vision, as opposed to people with just money and time. Vegan comfort food includes everything I wish I could eat at a bar. I missed lunch but still couldn't finish my dinner there. It was delicious. The restaurant area in front is that Oly retro diner experience. The bar is in the back. It is kind of a crescent walkway. The service was great. You order and pick up at the counter. Le Voyeur makes me thankful to be a vegan! The food is delicious and the portions are huge! I ordered the Animal Fries and ended up being very glad I only ordered that, as it could have fed 2 people or been a side to 4. My omni husband had/shared the BBQ burger and it was so delicious, melt-in-your mouth. He added the side of garlic fries and with the Animal Fries and burger between us, we took the entire garlic fries home! Can't wait to try everything on the menu. Head to the bar in the back for tasty drinks at reasonable prices! We tried to taste everything on the specials menus but it got quite crowded close to 8pm. If you're looking for a vegan dive that's unique, has a ton of flavor, and is easy to find, this is it. Check out the menu, walk up to the counter & order. Seat yourself & bus your own tables. You can order to go too! HUGE serving sizes, and super tasty dishes. It had been forever since I had a brat (), and it was so worth it! I'm super thankful for their GF options as well! I'll say, if you bring kids, the food is great & messy. But, I'd skip the bathrooms, as they're not necessarily family friendly. And really, that's not the point of this place. Great service and an amazing assortment of cocktails made with elixirs made on premise. I had the Melty melt, a vegan patty melt with garlic fries. The fries were incredibly fresh, not frozen and the grilled onions, Melting vegan cheese and vegan patty was so delicious and I'm not vegan! However, this place can sway me easily. This spot is so cool! We came as a party of seven on Saturday night at 6:00 PM and were able to find seats immediately. It was pretty empty, but I would assume because the weather was so nice outside on this occasion! Coming in, we enjoyed the cool atmosphere-both in regards to temperature and the local art on the walls (and of course, Star Wars playing on an old VHS TV). Their bathrooms are literally covered in graffiti-it looks cool (although it would be nice to have an uncovered mirror! I want to do a tooth check every now and then.) All of their foods are vegan. We liked the sound of everything on the menu, and seeing all of the food our party have, I don't think there was any wrong decisions. I ordered two things: The Animal Burger-I felt like an animal eating this. It was so sloppy and good. It was falling apart a lot but the flavors were there. I enjoyed this pure indulgence. The Curry Fries-I ordered a basket for the table to enjoy. The cut of these fries were thick, and the sauce was wonderful. It came with jalapeños on the top. As a table, we shared both the BBQ and the Buffalo wings. We loved whatever the wings were made of-their flavors were excellent. There are a few things I think they could change though to improve their service. 1. Their wings are great, but the skewers are too small and subtle. They were hard to see because of the delicious sauce surrounding them, and they don't look like traditional skewers. I wish they could indicate what they look like, or change this about their wings. I could easily see someone eating this on accident. It would be easy to have someone either make a piece of art mentioning this, I just want them to call this out BEFORE. 2. It costs $1.00 for a single order of a side sauce. A dollar for a side sauce feels like too much. This is the most I have ever paid for a side of hot sauce and ranch (those usually are free or at most $0.50), so I did feel overcharged here. Their only free condiments were ketchup and Tabasco. 3. Mirrors in the bathrooms-these are essential for checking ourselves. I would change literally only this in the bathrooms. 4. For the prices we paid, we had to bus our own table and dishes. This is totally fine to have us do, but I think that their food prices should have been somewhat lower. I understand that they are not serving traditional meat and the substitutes can be differently priced, but I think calling this out is fair. Their flavors were undeniably solid and for sure 5/5. While they should improve some things, I enjoyed my time here and I would come back. read more

Thought we'd try a new vegan restaurant for Father's Day. We didn't even get a chance to try the food. We arrived a little after 5pm when they opened. The Rage Metal music was so loud we couldnt' hear ourselves think. The guy behind the counter gave us a couple of menus and never said anything, just went back to staring at his cellphone. We perused the menu while the "host" coined to stare at his cellphone. I finally decided I didn't want to eat at a place that didn't really care about their customers, so we left. Very disappointed. Because I had enjoyed a few meals here in the past I chose to bring my son along for a burger over the weekend. It will be the last time I will ever dine at this establishment. I don't know what happened, but the person who had prepared our food in the past was suddenly working in the back bar area, and there was a new (to me) person working the grill. He was very rude, and he completely soaked our pretzel buns in grease and grilled them. My son (a college student) ate his but I could barely get down half - it was totally disgusting. I just loved tipping 15% to order at the counter and then be yelled at to pick up our food too - that was a nice touch. Luckily for us there are SO many fabulous restaurants to choose from in Olympia. Never again Le Voyeur. read more

I wish I could rate this place higher, because I truly love it; however, your dining experience here will greatly depend on who is cooking and the day and time you go. The food selection is great for meat eaters, vegans, and vegetarians. There is also a full bar complete with drafts. But all of this great stuff means nothing if you can't hear because of the noise from the back venue room that they blast into the front dining area or if the one dude in his 40's is "cooking." I've gone in four times when he has been the cook and all of those meals have been horrible. One of them, the owner actually remade for me because luckily I was the last meal the tall dude cooked before leaving, otherwise I'm sure I'd have been stuck with it. Last night's meal, my favorite and now former go-to, the Sloppy Hippie tasted like curry, instead of BBQ. It also tasted like it had no cheese on it. He insisted it was made exactly to recipe and that he added two slices of cheese. He also didn't take anything off the bill or offer a free beer or anything to compensate to our dissatisfaction. My wife's eggplant parmesan was also subpar. The pasta was overcooked, the sauce was bland, and the formerly frozen eggplant patties were burnt and hard. He didn't take the hint that it sucked from the fact she left 75 percent of it on the plate and refused the box. Why complain when it was obvious he would say he cooked it just like he was supposed to? So, in the future, if the owner or any of the female cooks are cooking you are fine, but avoid the tall dude in his 40's with no facial hair. His food is gross and he takes no accountability for it. Also as a side note, be wary of their house hot sauce. Make sure you get a fresh batch as sometimes the bottles have been sour. read more

Finally made the decision to try this place out and it was NOT disappointing whatsoever! We were a bit hesitant based on the reviews on here. It's a very laid back place! I honestly couldn't tell if it was a bar or a restaurant. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. Service was friendly, quick, and consistent. They were very helpful when we had questions about the menu. They didn't rush us or anything. We are vegan, so my partner and I ordered Chicken fried tofu and the fajita entrees. Both were absolutely delicious! I think they got the best vegan mushroom gravy out of all the places I've been to, and I've been to many! I loved the chicken fried tofu! Everything was full of flavor! Fajitas were full of flavor! Especially the tempeh they used in the fajita dish! We will definitely be back to try more dishes! I also really love the fact that you don't have to worry about having to worry if certain dishes are vegan friendly. They can make any of the dishes on the menu vegan! This is one of my favorite places in Olympia and has been since my first visit out there. Vegan fare is not hard to find Olympia (and WA in general) but Le Voyeur pairs a pretty solid menu with the grittiness that I've come to love about the Pacific Northwest. They do brunch especially well, and I love their bloody mary pickled vegetable variations. The first time I went, they had green beans...it changed the way I made bloodys for years to come. Their hand-cut fries are awesomely thick and garlicky, but a bit inconsistent in how well they're cooked. Even so, They're awesome - and exceptionally useful if you're either prepping for an evening of imbibing, or recovering from one. The Sloppy Hippie with tempeh was delicious and worth getting more than once. However, my favorite thing here is definitely the Tofu Scramble. And then watch it sit on a non-heated counter-top for five minutes while the cook/cashier talks with someone. At no other restaurant in Olympia will you find a cold, dingy cave in back, covered wall-to-wall with graffiti (including such gems as "James Loves the Eagles, especially Glenn Frey"); bathrooms with strange, patterned monkeys on the doors; Trivial Pursuit cards; mason jar water glasses; a fish tank; and a pasta dish that casually comes with a can of beer, all tucked into the same tiny, little space. I love it here! I don't go as often since they stopped doing Trivia Night (though Trivia Night's former home -- that back room with all the graffiti -- still hosts plenty of live bands, movie nights, and the occasional spelling or geography bee). Still, I highly recommend Le Voyeur to anyone who appreciates the "weirder" side of Olympia. The food -- which, indeed, can take forever to arrive at your table -- is almost always worth the wait. The menu includes a nice variety of sandwiches; some interesting soups and appetizers; plentiful options for tofu or tempeh or avocado (mmm, avocado!); a few pasta dishes, and about a million different kinds of beer. Seemingly everything on the menu is drenched in garlic ... or maybe I just think so because of the overpowering scent from the garlic fries (and yes, you will "smell like Le Voyeur" for a few hours after leaving it, but I don't mind the garlicky scent. I find it oddly comforting. At any rate, it won't make your neighbor keel over or anything like that.) Oh, and the prices are reasonable. As far as the service goes -- well, I admit, the rudest waitress I ever encountered worked at this very restaurant (this was in early 2011). However, from my experience, she was the exception to the rule. Everyone else has been sufficiently friendly, if a bit slow at times with their service; and Ryan, the owner, is awesome. And what other venue in town welcomes not only local bands, but virtually every band or musician passing through? I once heard a rumor that somebody spotted Kevin Bacon eating here. I think it was even true; but, if not, I couldn't imagine a more fitting place for a Kevin Bacon sighting in Olympia. You never know what -- or WHO -- you'll find at Le Voyeur! Go check it out.
