My puppy came here struggling to walk and with a 104 fever. They quickly figured out he was suffering from a deep tissue infection from his grooming the day before. All of the DRs and support people were wonderful. Kind, caring and wanted to help him get well. My puppy is alive because they got to the bottom of what ailed him quickly and got on top of his skin infection. I can't thank them enough. I highly recommend this facility - I drove over an hour to bring Cooper here and it was totally worth it!

To be fair, I left a 5 star review years ago, when it was warranted. I'm not one of those ppl to just write negative reviews... I think really great experiences deserve reviews just the same. That being said, Dr. B is retired and no longer at VRC. This current 1 star review is for the horribly traumatic experience I had this past Friday evening at VRC with staff and with Dr. Paul J. McGough. My beloved 18 yr old 2 lb maltese was diagnosed with lots of tiny, inoperable liver shunts by Dr. Shelling (radiologist) when she was only 2 years old. We were told she would probably not live long. With great care, and with annual prophies with Dr. B, we got her through a wonderful 18 years. Three months ago, she was dx'd w/liver tumor / cancer and started a steady downward decline. For 3 months, we had more great days than bad while I gave her SQ fluids and syringe feedings of Hills A/D prescription diet. On Friday evening, my sweet Pixel had her first seizure, and after coming out of it, let me know that she did not wish to go through that again. I called over to the VRC and spoke with a very nice receptionist. I gave her the details of medical history, let her know that I still wasn't sure I'd like to come right in, but just in case, wanted to proactively let them know my wishes for a peaceful euthanasia using Iso or Sevoflurane to let her sleep before inserting the needle to administer the B-euthanasia drug. I let them know her heart is really strong, and that we would need a solid dose... probably a little more than typically recommended for her weight. I also let them know my wishes to remain with her THE ENTIRE TIME, with her in my arms, and that afterwards, I would like the vet to collect her tissues samples so that I could bank them with Viagen, in the chance that I decide to have them produce a clone puppy in the future. (please don't judge... you have no idea how very special my little dog has been to me and the bond we shared.) I do completely realize that this would not be to replace her, but to honor her and carry on her DNA, and that her clone / "puppy", which is how I like to think of it, would have it's very own personality and character and soul, but would be a little piece of her in same tiny package and with same health history, although would possibly live even longer since we knew and understood Pixel's medical hx and could manage liver issues even better. Plus 18 years is a very good long life for a tiny 2 lb dog!!!) I had my kit from Viagen and was ready. Anyway, the girl I spoke with checked with vet (Dr. Paul McGough) and came back to report that yes, they could do everything as I wished, and would not charge for DNA biopsy collection b/c it's something they've never done before and don't even have a charge in their system for. She said that he was the only vet there, and that they would both be there throughout the night if I needed them. At around 2 am, my precious girl had another small seizure. So we warmed up the car and headed over. On my way, I called just to let them know we were heading in, and that I had given her some melatonin, so she was resting quietly and there would be NO RUSH. I wanted this to be as peaceful and calm as possible for her. This is where things started to go horribly wrong. The person that answered the phone was not the same girl I had spoken with earlier. I asked for her by name, but the girl on the phone pushed back and insisted I tell her the whole story again. I asked again for the other girl. I was then told that she was not there. So I told her that the vet on that night was also aware, and just to let him know that we were on our way in for euthanasia. I asked how busy they were, and was met with "it doesn't matter... when it's a euthanasia, we rush you right on in as soon as you get here". I told her there is NO rush, and I don't want to be rushed! This is NOT a dire emergency... my dog is resting peacefully on my chest and I need CALM. She reiterated that they work quickly when it's for a euthanasia. UGH. DID YOU NOT HEAR ME??? Maybe learn to LISTEN to your patients... it goes a long way. Trust me. That's one skill I have really learned to hone in over the years in my own practice. So she runs back to get the vet, then takes us to a tx room. Vet walks in already really full of attitude. (It's HIS responsibility to defuse the situation, be the bigger person, show staff how to properly handle things calmly and to LISTEN and hear the client out first.) But instead, he told me what I was asking for (and had already proactively prearranged with earlier phone conversation) was "not protocol", they MUST take her away from me to insert a cath, and furthermore, administration of Iso or Sevo to make her more comfortable was completely unethical. WOW. (TWO other vets were fine with that... mine and one other.) Needless to say, I turned around and walked out. Thanks for no help and for a horrible experience in stressful times, VRC.

My compliments to Dr. Sadanaga! He operated on my cavalier Bentley a few weeks ago (11/14/23) and today was his final checkup. The doctor is compassionate, friendly, kind, and a true professional. He is also an artist although he says no. He drew my dog's anatomy to show me the operating procedure. I appreciated this because it was easy to understand. A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Sadanaga because he operated on her dog for a similar surgery and she was so pleased with his service. I see a 100% improvement in my dog since the surgery, The doctor was happy to see Bentley today and even sat on the floor with him. I can't think of a better way to get to know a dog. I notice the little things too. I value Dr. Sadanaga's opinion and will seek his help in the future, even if it is for a second opinion. Thank you Dr. Sadanaga! A happy dog Mom, Kathi Peters

But, I was surprised to learn they do not have a surgical oncologist on staff. The Penn Dr. recommended Dr. Jennifer Reagan at Blue Pearl Malvern. She had a CT at Blue Pearl to be more informed for surgery. The CT report led us to the decision it would be wise to be as aggressive as we can to fight this. Gwen lost her right eye and a lymph node to this process. Dr. Reagan and the nursing staff kept communication very open from day one to the end. Everyone was good to us from the front desk staff to the Dr. herself. If you are an animal lover, you can tell when other people are true animal lovers. All the staff interacted with Gwen in that way and that provided much peace of mind. Gwen has had two follow ups at local vets since she has healed. Both vets commented on the quality of her stitching especially the eye since it was a long area. Gwen's pain was managed so well by the hospital I think the surgery was harder on us than it was on her. The days after coming home she was in high spirits and only concerned about where her groundhog friends were. I am thoroughly pleased with the level of care received. Recommend.

He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. Highly recommend this place.

I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!

We didn't have to wait long before Dr. Russell came over, listened carefully as I explained why we were there, and thoroughly evaluated Stella. He quickly identified what was causing her pain and explained everything clearly. Stella received pain medication by injection, and we were sent home with additional medication to keep her comfortable. When it was time for Stella's injection, my sweet girl became a little grouchy. The team handled her with such patience and compassion, moving us into a private room so they could safely care for her away from the open treatment area. That thoughtful accommodation meant so much to me. We arrived at approximately 5:30 a.m. and were home within one to two hours. He was there for several days and a lot of testing with no improvement. They told me to try Philly. I made arrangements for the next day for someone to come to the house. On the way home I kept searching for other places & came across Pinnacle Veterinary Specialists. I decided to take him to Pinnacle. They were wonderful from the start! I explained everywhere we had been and had no answers. Once again Dozer had to go through x-rays & bloodwork. Dr. David Brewer could not see anything definitive. He kinda felt same way Philly did (probably Cancer). He didn't feel it was some disease that dogs can get. I had to know. I just didn't or refused to believe it was cancer. I could not give up without trying and decided to get the MRI. I finally got my answer. It wasn't easy for Dr Brewster to find but it ended up being an infection from an old spinal cord injury that I never knew he had. He could not guarantee Dozer would recover from this because a week had already passed with no treatment. He said it if there is improvement it could take a year. He sent him home with medication and instructions. Within 6 months & a lot of hard work, my Boy was up walking getting better and better every week. Dozer was able to happily celebrate his 12th Birthday because of Dr Brewster's skills. I've now realized it's a money grab method to over book themselves before you see their terrible reviews or at least say they do... TLDR: Telephone tag and CONSTANT miscommunication on medicine for pup. Tried to overcharge, still had to double pay because our wishes were disregarded. Final straw was booking sick visit and being pushed toward a $250 emergency vet visit with them because "there's nothing available." Then being called back within 3 minutes to give us the day we asked for originally (two days later.) After that first appointment the pup was tested positive for two parasites. When they called us to inform and ask about medication we wanted "the quickest available option" which was communicated exactly as stated. We were told "okay not a problem it can be shipped right to your home" assuming it'd be fast shipping (like overnight) and it wouldn't be available for pickup same day (was already mid afternoon) we didn't question it since we explicitly asked for the fastest option. Two days later we call to figure out what happened they say the shipping company is separate from them and it might take a few days and they needed payment over the phone before it could be processed. After charging us for ~$200 we were told to just wait the few days. A week after the initial call and a couple days with no email updates on the medicine shipping we called again. We were told that "of course we could come in same day to pick it up from their pharmacy"... then when we got there they wanted us to pay AGAIN and said they're separate from the online pharmacy and that they couldn't cancel it. Of course we already paid so we just left it alone and waited another day. Now I'm pregnant and you're telling me we can't figure ANYTHING out for my pup when he's starting to show worsening signs of the parasites? I was fed up and called again we were even ready to drive to the online pharmacy place to just do the "shipping" ourselves. It was a Friday and we were told if it wasn't there by Monday we could come get it and get a free dose. Weekend came and went, on Monday when leaving for the vet ironically enough ONE medicine showed up the other still had no tracking information or updates. We still showed up to the vet and restated our problems again... They never gave us the free dose but let us pay for the two doses we needed to treat our pup. Terrible. Today was the final straw considering our pup is sick and we figured a few more days to a week for an appointment would be warranted. Even considering every time we showed up their lobby was empty, the parking lot wasn't full, and their name board had plenty of space... We were told we wouldn't get an appointment anytime soon but "the emergency vet is only $250." We had to even call back to re ask what was the actual next available appointment was since we were being pushed toward their emergency vet instead of what we called for. The next available was only two weeks out, but especially after all of our problems here we just said okay and took the information so we could weigh our options because even our emergency vet (away from this place) is a better option for quick services. VCA called us back not even 3 minutes later to say someone ironically JUST canceled on Monday (the day we asked about and a day wait instead) and we could have their spot... I had just walked away from my spouse hanging up the phone about the two week appointment for the bathroom and came back in to him agreeing to the appointment. That's how quick that turn around was. I immediately called back (suddenly they didn't answer quick, we were on hold for 20 mins, they ended my 10 minute hold call, and didn't answer until I used option 0 to just speak to someone and told them to cancel all services. Of course it was met with attitude instead of the customer service aspect of figuring out what was wrong and what they can improve. It's obvious they don't care. As for Parker don't worry the new vet got us an appointment today and we're on the way to his checkup now.
