I have been going to V's for a couple of years now. Some of the staff have changed over time. If you are like me you appreciate that finding a barber that you can trust is very important. Last thing you want is to have an experiment done on your head which can have some devastating results and leave you looking like a primate for several weeks. My regular barber was away today when I went in for a haircut, but being in a rush and needing an urgent haircut for an important meeting that I have this week, I bumped into Charles. Charles was very nice and polite and within a few minutes we started chatting--after about 15 minutes my haircut was done and I was absolutely amazed and very pleased at the results. I've been a loyal customer at this barbershop for over three years, always returning because of the excellent service from Fatima. Unfortunately, today's experience was extremely disappointing. Fatima is currently on vacation, so someone else handled my haircut. From the beginning, when I gave her clear instructions, she seemed frustrated and dismissive--instead of listening, she tried to correct me, as if I didn't know what I wanted. When I gave a second instruction, the frustration only grew. She abruptly told me my haircut was "basically done" and said she wouldn't charge me, which felt like a polite way of kicking me out. The only reason I'm leaving two stars instead of one is out of respect for Fatima's past professionalism. However, after today's experience, I won't be returning, even when she's back. I have only ever gone to Jay for a haircut at V's Barbershop. Not only do I go here for a clean haircut, but for the great customer service I receive while I am there. Jay greets me with a warm welcome, and always asks me how I have been since my last visit. When first getting my haircuts with Jay, he helped me find the style of haircut that I liked. Once we found that, he memorized it so that I do not even need to tell him before he starts the haircut. We always have fun conversations to make the experience a great one. Jay has been so wonderful that I moved locations with him when he moved from Jersey City to Hoboken. I would recommend Jay to anyone looking for a great haircut. read more

One of the worst haircuts I've had ever. I came in 11/19/2018 around 11am or something. It was Monday before Thanksgiving so as expected, the place was empty. I walk into one of the nicest looking barbershop. So far so good. I am feeling really good about getting a haircut here. Was greeted by two ladies sitting on the couch. One lady asks the other to give me a haircut. I tell the lady what I'm looking for. I show her the picture of what I was looking for. I have attached the same picture here. As you can see it is very different from the one I took today. Almost 3 weeks after the haircut. So you may ask why did I wait for so long to post a review? Well, I wanted to give it a chance to settle in, maybe look better after growing back a little bit. But as can be seen, it was a very very bad haircut. I think the master barbers come in after 1pm or so. Don't get a cut here before afternoon. You'll waste $30++ dollars (including tips) Update: the owner mentioned that they don't have couches and I must be mistaken. I think the owner should check his records before dismissing a review. Have had some really good cuts here, but also some ones that ended unexpectedly, so like any other place, you need to provide some clear direction. Biggest complaint is that a couple times I went, I asked for just a trim and thought I provided ample direction only to walk out with an above average, but way shorter cut than I was hoping for. All the barbers are professional and can likely give you whatever cut you'd like, just need to make sure they know what you're envisioning. read more

Asked for a fade and got the worst haircut I have ever received in my life. Even pointed it out and minimal improvement. Beyond just the sides and back looking like a 16th century monk, the front was not evenly cut, no razor was used to shape up sides and back or clean up neck. I think he finished my haircut in 5 mins. Looked like he was a bit grumpy... didn't bother blending my hair . Hair stuck out from behind the ear.. also used some thinning scissors liberally leaving uneven thickness.. side-logs were thicker than the surrounding hair.. has to trim my hair at home to make it look presentable read more

Patrick is the worst barber I've ever been to. He's a complete idiot, probably a newbie. I asked for a skin fade which he didn't give me. Skin fades DO NOT need to be lined up from my experience with previous barbers. That's the reason it's called a skin fade because the skin is supposed to show thus not having hair to line up. He had to redo the skin fade after I pointed it out and it was still not a skin fade, but I let it slide. He also forgot what I wanted to be done on top, so I had to repeat myself, and he tried to line up my eyebrows without asking me first, which I thought was ridiculous. In the back, he went a bit above my natural hairline and nicked me about 4 times. I attached pictures so you can see the destruction. Please let me know if I'm crazy for thinking this is NOT a skin fade. This barber should focus more on giving a haircut instead of worrying about what's on TV and making small talk. I had to remove my eyeglasses so I don't even know why the heck he was asking me what I wanted to watch on TV when I couldn't even see the TV screen. I gave him a $3 tip for effort, however, he didn't deserve a single penny. This guy needs more training, especially for a $30 haircut. He was super professional, definitely knew what he was doing, was apologetic & empathetic, quick, clean and overall, super impressed. This place had lost our patronage after some really bad haircuts. However after reading all the reviews i showed up with my two boys (7&5). We saw Dawn who was super polite and sweet. She did a great job with both of them and best of all, we were in and out in 30 mins. We used to go to a salon down the road and after they increased their prices yet again ($40?! For kids) we couldn't justify spending so much. Highly recommend Dawn. Hopefully she won't leave lol! read more

This Vs is better than Jersey City. They were open on Saturday until 6pm when all other shops closed early including Jersey City which closed at 4 but locked their doors at 3:10...annoyingly. Vs Hoboken was great: the same setup but they don't skimp on the hot towel and massage at the ends. They already had basketball on and with more women in the shop they were actually more relaxed and seemed to get along with each other better. Will be coming back! Well done! read more

That was my last haircut here. Each clearly inexperienced barber has been more timid than the last to perform the service option on their own menu: an all-scissors haircut. At times I wasn't sure if this last barber was actually touching my hair at all, or just miming the haircut above my head for fear of...What? Cutting something? her nervousnes started to concern me. After I had to encourage her a third time that it was OK to touch my head, move it, and cut my hair, she finally dropped the pretense and fell back to the Wahl buzzers, and confidently did the job we could all do at home with the same tool. I was still charged the higher all-scissors rate, but was too irritated by my experience to argue the point. I'll happily pay more for a real haircut--but that's the experience and result I expect to get for the promise, and for my money. . read more

I have visited v's about half a dozen times. Amazing service every single time I walk in. As soon as you open the door you are greeted by the entire staff and offered a bottle of water. Next you are led to the old fashion barber chair with a handshake. They use clippers for a more precise cut and a straight edge to clean up the sideburns and back. I have also gotten a shave with the straight edge and it was incredible. I highly recommend it as I have never experienced anything like it before. I have never had such a close shave (especially with no nicks and cuts on my face). Finally, you finish your experience with a hot towel and a massage. Highly recommended!!! read more

After having tried a few different barber shops in Hoboken and finding some pretty incompetent barbers, this place provided some series relief. I thought I was going to have to travel all the way to CT to get my haircut but now I can go down the street. At $28 for a regular men's haircut which is not outrageous, you get what you pay for. Asked for a simple business haircut with a little longer on the top and it is exactly what I got. I did not get a pitch to get the shampoo or shoe shine or anything. It was a great experience and I will be coming back as soon as my hair needs another trim. read more

I am not usually one to write a review. But a good barber, and a good barbershop, is very hard to come by. I just moved to hoboken from NYC, where i had the same person cut my hair for 3 years. 3 different shops, I followed the lady who cut my hair across manhattan. I figured I should try and find a spot in Hoboken, and walked by V's (which is only 4 weeks old) to see an old school barbershop with new school finishings, flat screens, and high end products. When i went the following saturday, there was no line as i got my cut from Elliot. This guy is the man... he listened to what I was looking for, asked questions, gave me an awesome haircut, and topped it off shaping me up with a razor, hot towel, and massage using an electric massage contraption. Mind you, this was all for $25!!! what a steal. V's, and particular Elliot, come highly recommended. read more

This place is great IF you get one of the good barbers. I've been going there for about 6 months so about 6-8 cuts and I wanted to wait until I had a few different people to review. Elliot is by far the best, very meticulous and makes you feel like you're getting a good value out of a $25 hair cut. There are two other guys who I unfortunately do not remember their names b/c I've only seen them their once that were good too. It's hard to point to one specific person and say avoid him/her but I have noticed that whoever is in the far chair seems to be lowest on the totem pole and whenever I get a so so cut it's from whoever is there. That's also where I see the random faces, it's the floater chair. My biggest complaint with the floater chair ppl is that they rush the hair cut. It's hard going from someone like Elliot who takes 10mins+ just on your fade to someone that does a quick zip through and is done with the cut in under 10 minutes. None of the girls have cut my hair yet so they're excluded from this review, although from observing they all seem to do a good job. read more

I had a facial by Rich the Barber... It was really awesome. Definitely recommend this on a hot summer day. He uses some Dragon stuff that makes your skin tingle. I mean on a hot summer day that would just be the most amazing thing to experience. Not to mention that his hair cuts are amazing!!!! He's not just a barber, he's an artist!!!! Rich has been cutting my hair for about six months now. He's an artist who has a keen eye for style and knows how to make you look good. The shop is very pleasant, and the rest of the staff is friendly. If there's one downside to this place, I have yet to discover it. I usually don't write reviews either but when I come across a place that delivers great, friendly service, I feel I have too. I went in today for a head and face shave, not sure what to expect. I was greeted by Dorka with a friendly hello and a smile. I went in the middle of the afternoon so there was no wait. Each station has its own flat screen television set so you can watch whatever you want (they even will put on cartoons for your children), After a thorough shave, Dorka used an electric neck and upper back massager (one at every station) which I thought was a nice touch after a very nice shave. Overall, V's was very clean and provided great service. They carry top of the line products such as Jack Black, Art of Shave, etc. I will be going back here again and I am recommending this place to all of my friends who are looking for a barbershop. read more

I had a different experience the two times I've been here. The first time, I came in and it wasn't very busy, the barber seemed to still give me a sort of rushed haircut and nicked my neck with the straight razor while he was cleaning up my hairline. At that point, I wrote it off and told myself I'd find another barber for the next haircut. When I went back about a month later, I didn't have cash so I skipped the other barbershop I had bookmarked and went back. It was around 95 degrees that day and I was sweating like crazy. After only a 5 minute wait, I was called up and the first thing this barber did was get me a cold towel for my head and a bottle of water! Crazy good service. He spent easily twice the time on my cut as the first visit, and made some good conversation as well. I'll definitely be back after V's redeemed themselves on the second visit! read more

Rich at V's barbershop on Washington street is excellent at what he does. He will go out of his way to make sure you are taken care of. Best straight razor shave I've ever had! I will say the place is very nice, and the haircuts looked decent. But I was disappointed with my first experience at V's. I went in for a haircut and asked how long it would be as I was in a little bit of a rush. I was told 10-15 minutes. Over 30 minutes later there were 3 people who had just been seated (only 3 chairs were in use, and one person stopped taking customers), and 1 customer still in front of me. So I knew it was going to be at least an additional 15 minutes. If they had told me when I asked that it would be a 45 minute wait, I would have come back another time. One of the barbers was taking an outrageously long time cutting hair. It looked like he was cutting one hair at a time. I've had a haircut like that once before... it took a guy over an hour to cut my hair. I have a simple haircut... it normally takes about 10-15 minutes. I'm OK with someone wanting to make sure they do a good job, but that individual hair stuff is too much. So after waiting for 30 minutes, and knowing it would be at least another 15 just to be seated, and I was really worried I was going to get stuck with the slow barber and be in there for another hour. So I left. The haircuts people were getting looked good, but the line is always long. I may give it another shot one day, but i'm not sure. My suggestion is, if time is at all a concern to you, try somewhere else. UPDATE: I did try this place again, and had a much better experience. I wound up getting a haircut from Elliot, who did a great job, and was very friendly. It as definitely worth another visit. read more

I called an hour ahead and made an appointment for a haircut and after a slight delay was at the barbershop four minutes late according to my cell phone. I was told that there would be a delay because the barber I made the appointment with took a walk-in. He was already settled starting a shave so he must have seated at least a couple of minutes ahead. I thought maybe it was a quick shave but 25 minutes later he was still working on it and I didn't have more time to waste so I left. V's could have done better. When I called to make the appointment the person who answered took time to register me in their system, including my cell phone number, where I could have been reached if there was a concern that I was not showing up for the appointment. read more

Do you want a crooked ass hairline? Then this is the place to go! Imagine a fade but not blending in the different clipper size. You can literally see where each clipper size was changed from like a 0.5 to a 1 to a 2 to a 3.... And not for anything it wasn't even straight at all, maybe he was drunk I don't know ‍. Then ontop of that on my beard line I had sideburn cut straight and the other side cut on a 45 degree, making it look like a slope, thankfully I know how to blend in my own beard line and I could fix that embarrassment. $30 just for me to wear a hat around cause my cuts all F'ed up. Went in today for my first cut with a barber since I was a kid. After years of jumping around from one overpriced salon to another, naively hoping that one of these places would give me a "cool" haircut because the price was so high, I have stopped. I went into V's today and was overwhelmingly pleasantly surprised. Fatima was my barber today, and she was excellent. I have a lot of thick unruly hair which I had unsuccessfully tried to cut myself, and she tamed it like the expert I now know she is. I told her vaguely what I wanted (long on top, short on sides and back), and she went to work with an incredible amount of detail and focus. She made stops along the way to make sure I was satisfied. No hair salon has ever given me exactly the cut I was after, and no hair salon has ever given me the experience that I found at V's. Most hairstylists I've ran across in these overpriced salons have taken way too much artistic license on my hair, usually chopping my hair down to nothing. I usually came out feeling like a fool, a poor ugly fool I'm in love with V's use of the straight razor to clean up my hairline, neck, and shoulders just below my shirts neckline. I love the electrically assisted shoulder and arm massage, that was a surprise. I loved coming out looking and feeling sharp. I loved the incredibly reasonable price, and absolute lack of a sales pitch to buy this shampoo or that hair gel. Reservations were easily made online, and I literally walked right to a comfortable classic barbers chair when I came in the building, no wait at all. I will definitely be booking future appointments for Fatima through V's. Thanks guys! read more

I went to V's, waited about 3 minutes, then got my brimmed trimmed by the female barber (sorry, forgot her name, but she's a huge Met's fan), and loved it!
