My son was looking to get a "really good haircut" before high school graduation. I looked at the reviews of barbers in our area and told him to go to V's. I also brought my 16 year old along. The experience there was really nice. It's a very relaxing environment, and the barbers are all friendly, skilled, and accommodating. It was the most content with their hair these boys have ever been! My 18 year old struggles with multiple cowlicks that not all stylists or barbers have been able to work with and my 16 year old has just so much hair it can be overwhelming to cut. Their barbers were incredibly professional and made sure to communicate the entire way through on how it was looking, what they thought about it, and made styling suggestions so they could work with the hair vs against it. They were fascinated watching other customers get the hot lather and straight razor shave. While they didn't need that service, they did enjoy the hot towel on their back of their neck after it was all cleaned up. I arrived a little early so we sat and waited until our appointment time. I showed the barber what my son wanted and he took the time to thoroughly look at the details in the picture and gave me advice on to slightly make small changes as it would work best with my sons hair. So I booked an appointment I showed photos of how I usually get my beard trimmed. See the photos of the usual trim I get at another location and the trim I just got they cut too short and it's uneven. Worst trim I have ever gotten. At this location, ask for Wray. He is the definition of excellence. I have been to past barbers, and they don't listen or explain what they are doing, and just want to fit in as many people as possible. Wray takes his time to explain everything to you in detail, gives you options, and literally lets your haircut be YOUR haircut. On top of that, he is easy to talk to, knowledgeable, skilled, and fast. In a nutshell, he is a dawg at cutting hair. Remember this review! I comes from a patient old man, that believes customers should be treated, "like the business wants your money!" I had an appointment, arrived 5 minutes early and was still told to sit and wait. There was a barber available, sitting in his barber chair, but he wanted to finish his snack and social media fix for the day. To make things worse, another customer came in after me, indicated he did not have an appointment, and "dufus the barber" sat the "new" customer down in the barber chair ahead of me. This pissed me off, so I asked for a manager/boss and expressed my frustration. He did little to help and I left. I have been to this barber about 10 times, over the last 5 years, because they are close to where I live. I spend at least $40 each time for a simple "senior" haircut. I will never return to this barber shop! They do not want my money. Because I have life experience and listened to my teachers when I went to school, I can do the math and calculate how "shitty service" costs a business. If I were to get a haircut every other month for the next 5 years, they just lost $1,200 of my money, not just the $40 they would have received today. This barbershop is the truth. My barber Carl is the equivalent of a super hero equipped with scissors. I strolled in with scraggly hair looking nearly homeless. Carl and I began game planning, as usual. We decided on the mid skin fade, and he got down to business. This man looked like Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen chopping up my hair. I have never seen anyone so hyper focused on hair follicles in my ENTIRE life. He clearly perfected his craft and I noticed this when he went back and touched up my hair just like DaVinci. This cut was second to none. Walking out of the shop I had a couple people mistake me for a celebrity, courtesy of my boy Carl. Asked for a simple 1 high fade with 1 inch off the top(Came in with 5-6 inches on the top). Took all but 1-2 inches of hair on the top. Guy couldn't fade my hair at all. Took the fade past the crown of my head so my hair is now a V on top. It looks terrible. Used to be the best shop in town and it has taken a terrible turn. I have been to Vs once before and the guy did an amazing job. Today I took my son for another haircut and there was only one person available. Being a babe shop, I assumed anyone there was qualified to cut his hair. It didn't look bad when I left...then I got home and into the light. I was so upset. The cut is horrible. And noticeable. I felt like she rushed to get the cut done. She finished my son before the other babe era finished the people already in the chairs when we arrived. It took her about ten minutes tops. I'm upset I paid $30 for this cut. Not even the money part, but for the lack of effort and not caring enough to do what she was hired to do. I now understand why men stick to one barber. The only way I'll return is if I have the same guy I did the first time. I'll be calling first thing when they open because this needs to be fixed and not on my dime. Update: I went back the day after and Carl saved my sons hair! I was so impressed with his willingness to make it right. Made an appointment by internet for today at 4:30 pm which was confirmed by email. Arrived at 4:30 and was told by manager my appointment was with certain barber who had just finished with a customer. The manager and barber talked with the barber telling manager he did not want to honor my appointment but instead wanted to service another person in the barber shop. Normally I love this place but you have to get lucky with the right person. The girls do a great job but the guys are a 50/50 shot. Last 2 times I had Yelaina (I hope that how she spells it) and she was GREAT, we worked together to get the right look and she's amazing. Then I went there and the guys assured me that they could do it and now I'm stuck wearing a beanie for three weeks. I tried 2 separate guys and not one of them could do a proper fade or use scissors at all. They rely solely on the shaver and couldn't give me the shape I wanted. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!. Literally the worst worst worst. Albert totally ruined my sons lines. Said nothing and ALLOWED him to walk out of the shop with his lines all sorts of effed up!!! Look at the pics, OMG. I get it, people make mistakes. However Albert could have said something and fixed it or shaved it shorter getting rid of the lines. Not allow my son to walk out looking as such. Then, he is still charged full price for his cut and lines. My 2yr old could have done a better job. I called the shop when my son strolls through the door looking all sorts of embarrassing. Manny the 'manager' doesnt care nor wants to see the images of his employees terrible work. Tells me I can bring my son back in... so what? Albert can fix it??? Guy cant even make an even line, why on Earth would I allow this amateur to touch my childs hair again. I was there at the beginning. Fresh off the boat (plane), another transplant to the Valley-this one from Montana by way of Salt Lake City, through Billings and Boston. I'd had my haircut before, many times. But this, this was special-worth the drive to Indian School and 44th Street from North Scottsdale. Jimmy V was on to something special. A new location in Kierland was even bigger and better, went there until 2005 when I was yanked out of the Valley and punished in Boise. I would let it grow and then come back for a haircut- a little slice of Zen. Paroled (euphemistically) in 2007, we came back to Phoenix and Jack at Bell Road and 75th took care of me for years. Norterra is close to my home and I've been to this location a couple of times when it first opened and just came away cold. The temperature is about the same. The Valley is full of V's knockoffs and wannabes-which might be the case with this location. I received a "good" haircut, certainly not a great haircut which is what I'd become accustomed to at Barbershop Jacks on High Street. As I was walking towards the shop, a gentleman was coming out looking fresh, "good haircut?" I asked, "Indeed" was the response. Next time I'll ask, "great haircut?". The whole process was less than five minutes, mostly him watching the TV-I'm sure if asked what he does for a living, he responds with, "watch TV". The neck/shoulder massage was, and I'm not exaggerating, less than 20 seconds. No offer of gel or a comb. Again, the cut was good but my have the mighty fallen. I've been going to this place for over a year. The haircut is good. The service is not good. They take appointments now. So if you get there 15 minutes before they open keep waiting. The staff shows up late on a regular basis. The young son of one of the barbers will joke around with customers instead of communicating to those that are waiting who's next. The laid back show up late attitude may work for some people. Not for me. People have other things to do rather than wait around for an opening. When they finally opened at 10:10am. 10 minutes late on Sunday. 4 people who had appointments went ahead of me. Then when finally it was my turn they took a 1030 appointment in front of me. I'm done. I won't go back. But like I said, if disorganization and lack of communication is fine with you, then go get a good haircut. Make an appointment though. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would! Barber saw: Younan I brought my 2 year old in for his first cut in a barbershop and he was scared. The guy who did his hair wouldn't let him sit in my lap and then throughout the cut while my son was crying he would keep saying "keep crying, come on cry" and proceed to blow a blow dryer in my sons face. My barber was way too pushy and I felt like he was rushing to get me through the appointment. The place is a hustle. And when I tried explaining what I wanted for my haircut the guy didn't really listen and just did whatever he wanted. For an hour appointment that also included a shave I was only there for maybe 30 minutes because the guy was rushing so much. The barber was not very friendly. I wouldn't go back. I think Sports Clips is a much better environment. The hot towel I got was only on my face for maybe 30 seconds and the shoulder rub lasted literally 30 seconds too. For half the price you can get a MVI at Sports Clips and actually get a 5 minute relaxing hair wash and warm face towel. I think this franchise is cool and with better owners it could be much more. I don't know why it is so busy seeing how rude and uninviting the staff are. read more

This was my first time going to Vs Barbershop. I just moved to Arizona less than a month ago and needed to find a place to get my haircut. I was ideally looking for a go-to barber/salon that I could turn in to my regular go-to spot. A coworker recommended Vs so I called and made an appointment. The guy on the phone was super nice and said my appointment would be with Manny. I was pumped because I've read a lot of Yelp reviews that mention Manny and say how great he is. When I arrived to the shop it was relatively crowded but there were still plenty of seats to wait in. The shop itself was super clean and had that throwback feel of an old-school barber shop (see pics). I went to the desk and checked in roughly six minutes early for my 1pm appointment and was told my haircut would be with David. I was confused as I had been told before it would be with Manny, Not a big deal, just unexpected. I waited until almost 1:20pm (20 minutes after my appointment). Normally I wouldn't care too much but I was here on a lunch break from work. I was very close to leaving when David came up and said "who's next?" I figured he would come back and ask for me by name but he just asked "who's next?" A guy next to me said "I'm not sure if it's me but I'll go." I had to interrupt and tell them that I had had a 1pm appointment. David went to check the computer and confirmed that I was next. Not a very easy way to get into the chair, but I finally made it! From that point on it was smooth sailing. David was a good guy and did a great job with my haircut. The hot towel, traditional neck shave and neck massage was a nice touch. I'll certainly go back to Vs but would just hope it's a but smoother getting into the chair. read more

Again we couldn't make an appointment. We get there and the guy says 10-15 min. 40 minutes later we still were not seen. And to make it worse, when my two year old started fussing, because he's two, and was waiting 40 min, the one hair cutter made a comment to the person in his chair "glad that isn't you".
