Vegan Caribbean food is a unique combination that's succeeding in Toronto's tougher Mt Dennis west-end neighborhood. V's Caribbean Restaurant is actually attracting a flock of people from all over the city to try their comfort food. I made the trek and quickly located the entrance, which had a bit of island flair that made it easy to spot. I had the Chef Pong Special, a full offering with all of their vegan toppings. I really liked the maple jerk tofu, it was slightly sweet and deliciously imitated spicy jerk meat. The curry chickpeas, curry TVP soy chunks and caramelized plantain (banana) were also seasoned flavourfully as interesting sides. The mac & cheese, stew peas and callaloo (veggies) were more plain fillers and less tasty. The fresh avacado and quinoa nicely complemented all of the toppings, and basmati rice can be chosen instead of quinoa. This huge vegan platter doesn't come cheap ($15) yet is a healthy and filling alternative. While the staff gave a first look of suspicion at my interest, she started to smile when I mentioned that their food looked attractive. I didn't plan to stay long to dine-in so I asked for takeout. The seating area felt kind of stale though their use of Bob Marley placemats was cool.

While this place may have basic decor, there's NOTHING basic about their vegan food! SO flavourful, your finicky non-vegan friend will forget about missing meat. Ask the cook to create your meals or choose from the menu. They also have original blends of fruit juices that not predictable as at other health restos or drink bars. A truly hidden gem that doesn't get noticed by typical local food media outlets but deserves positive reviews!

Honestly there's not too many options for vegan food in the west end, that's why I'm so thankful for V's! V's has been on my radar for the past few months and I'm happy I've finally got a chance to go. I had the Chef Pong special, it's a mix of a little bit of everything! You get curry soy chunks, maple jerk tofu, plantain, quinoa, chickpeas, callaloo, topped with avocado. I would call ahead though, because sometimes they sell out of their popular items. Did I mention that maple jerk tofu though! :)

Nice surprise it was vegan. Staff looked very healthy, fit, so a good sign I should try vegan a bit more often.... Excellent chick pea, potato roti.

TL;DR Perfectly seasoned vegan comfort food: if I was asked to describe the restaurant's food in 5 words. It's homey, it's welcoming, it's unique, unexpectingly flavourful, and delicious! Please come here!!! It was my first time here and because it seemed like a neighbourhood restaurant with the cashier cosily talking to his customers, I felt a little shy. But no worries, the cashier's smile is very welcoming and calming. *IMPORTANT NOTE* After deciding on the Special because I've seen from other reviewers that it's got a bit of everything, I noticed that the first thing he did after I paid was that he washed his hands! !!! By the way, they have an open kitchen so they're very KEEN ON CLEANLINESS !!! I was super impatient to try the food because I took it for takeout, I scuttled out and began eating in the car. Opening up the box of food the fragrance was mouthwatering! Let's talk: The Chef's Special (Pong Special) 5/5 *PLEASE REFER TO PHOTOS* It was like a treasure box! You got your rice and beans at the bottom, plantains, chickpeas, collard greens, sweet potato, squash, okra, tofu (two ways?), freshly cut avocado, and I think a potato cake (if not, then it might be a rice cake but I highly doubt)! The variety was a joy ride and it makes my mouth water while writing this review! How many more exclamation marks can I put?!?!? *Also came with a water! The vegan food here makes me very happy and for the $15+TX I paid, well worth it. Even better than the sushi burrito food trend going on downtown which comes in at the same price! Not only is it super healthy and super delicious, it leaves your stomach super stuffed! I'd have to come back and interview the team about how the food was prepared because I wouldn't want to describe their food incorrectly... and also give me an excuse to come back and eat more yummy food! Thanks for having me and I'm looking forward to coming back next time!

This place is vegan and the food was very tasty. However it is mainly take out and quite pricey for the portion. I probably won't come back but it's worth a try.

    Chef Pong's special!

Can someone tell me why this place is so good?! I got chef Pong's special and it always blows me away. I'm not even vegan or vegetarian. The okra and cassava dish - I think it's cassava... it's white, starchy and a little bit sweet, is sooooo goood. I love it when they add that avocado on top. Just brings in all the colour and flavours. You get a little bit of sweet, spicy, smokey.. just delicious.

I was in the area so I decided to pay this place a visit. It's a vegan Caribbean restaurant. I recommend the chef special which is a bit of everything with a side of red beans & rice or quinoa. Good portions. Service is very friendly. Overall really delicious Caribbean food and worth checking out if you are in the area.

First experience here was lovely, staff was friendly and offered free samples of their fresh juices along with edible flowers on my plate! Food was delicious with lots of options and we are everything off our plates. First time trying tofu jerk and their squash stew was the die for! Would definitely come back for another visit and try their baked sweet potato mash! Note: call first to see if they're open as they mentioned some days they may have sold out of food. Another note: watch out for parking, we got a ticket due to misleading parking signs, park across the street or side streets for free

Amazing food! Great customer service!! As someone who is vegetarian, and loves Caribbean food, this place is perfect!! I wish there were a location in Mississauga, but it's well worth the drive!!

    Pong bowl

Amazing service, super friendly! They gave us these pastries that is their version of donuts, made with no sugar and they're delicious. As a vegan for over 9 years, The bowl was phenomenal, with a little bit of everything, with every bite there was a burst of flavour. I love this spot now, I would def recommend and will be coming back. thank you!

It said established in 1919, so we thought it's a good sign it's been in business over a century; although not this location specifically. Their history in the 20th century was that they started in Berlin, Germany in 1919, but they were a Jewish family who ended up immgrating to Israel in 1933, opening their store there, and expanded locations throughout Israel. Their history in Toronto & North America (including some in the US) is much more recent since opening in 2017. Unfortunately, my closest is New York City; none in Maryland or DC area. This location is in busy downtown Toronto. We sat outside on their big patio area as the weather was warm and could enjoy the view of the buildings, people, cars, etc. Server was friendly answering our questions. I ended up getting an egg benedict with salmon in a croissant. It was creative and delicious take on egg benedict. The only issue was it was messy to eat in the croissant, but I didn't care as it was so delicious. My girlfriend got a Belgian waffle with blueberries, whipped cream, etc. It was unique and very good & sweet too as I tried a bite. Overall, this was a 5-star experience with great food, service, & atmosphere.

Service: It was not great. We sat for a while and no one took attention (we were outside and they were busy but no excuse for them -- they should do better). We had folks come in and out and were somewhat nonchalant and not attentive. Food: This was the great part of the experience. - Berries and Granola with Greek Yogurt: My brother in law got this an he devoured it and said it was great. - Farmers Breakfast: My wife got this and she LOVED it. She went back to get their Halwah Latte (which she said was just OK) - Egg white Omlette Skillet: I customized my food and it was good -- for reference I've had better only because the cheese was feta and it was unclear that this was the only option as I don't love feta. Also I'm pretty sure while I asked for egg whites there was normal egg (i.e., eggs). If you order egg white make sure the server hears you. They screwed this up for me. This is why I'm giving it three stars -- I could have made a stink but didn't think it was necessary to do so. All in all -- I'd recommend this spot to folks but don't go there thinking the service will be great.

We ordered medium spicy for the papaya salad and it only had a slight kick. I wished the salad portion was more as it was gone pretty quickly. It comes with shrimp chips, pork rinds, and 2 small bundles of rice noodles. The dried shrimp in the salad was very chewy though, which made it a bit less enjoyable. I ended up picking them all out. We ordered spicy for the pad gra prow but it wasn't spicy at all. I think you can ask for the Thai chilis/ Thai chili fish sauce thing on the side but we decided we were fine with no spicy. Unfortunately the crispy pork was not crispy at all and was also very chewy. Overall it was still delicious! The Khao soi mightve honestly been the least favorite, but it was still good. It is on the sweeter side. The egg noodles were cooked al dente and had a nice chew. Sometimes when I get Khao soi it ends up being too heavy or creamy, but the curry for this one was thinner and easy to eat. The shrimp was the best part - super fresh and bouncy. In the end I thought the portions and quality were good. The service was also super nice, and it was impressive to see our waitress cover so many tables. The restrooms were also clean.
