No frills and definitely a little run down, but they do an ok job, it's $12 and I didn't see any other nail spots show up on Yelp on Lakeshore. BOOM. The spot has definitely seen finer times: It's dark with florescent lighting. It's a little run down. They aren't the most friendly and inviting, but for $12 I got a decent manicure and didn't have to wait. $1 surcharge on credit cards. OPI & Essie polish colors are limited. They do waxing. read more

My experience at U A Nails started out okay with an eyebrow wax from a woman who appeared to be the owner. She listened to what I wanted and gave it to me. The price was also nice ($10). But things went downhill as soon as my mani pedi started. I asked the nail tech to cut my fingernails about half as short as their current length (I make this request pretty much every time I get a manicure). When I said longer, she went shorter. She cut three of my fingernails down to the quick before I called time out. The entire rest of the time I spent at U A Nails was pretty uncomfortable, with the woman who had butchered my fingernails glaring at me from across the room and the owner filing my nails and talking smack about the other woman. Thankfully, my nails grow quickly so my manicure mishap here had no longterm effects. But I think it's safe to say I will not be returning to U A Nails. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I must give these nice, attentive people a "Meh," rating. Service and personality wise they were just lovely and this is why I am not leaving them with one, sole star. There was a quality issue. My feet turned out alright I guess. The massage chairs aren't all that comfy but my hands. My hands, one of the the key things people (well at least people like me) notice about you weren't looking better than if I had done them myself. Furthermore, they cut the cuticle rather than pushed it back. No, I didn't stop them. Why? It hurt so much I couldn't say much of anything. My fingers really looked bad. Although the bleeding stopped it just looked sloppy. I cannot in good conscience advise others to spend money here. read more

Greatest place -- Especially for men's man-pedi care. Over a score of years I tried to find a salon that did quality work and really cared about their service. All my efforts were of no avail -- UNTIL I found UA Nails. They take pride in their work and it really shows. Better than any podiatrist for ingrown nails. Even when things are busy, the people here do not rush but instead always give you their time and craftsmanship so that I have never been disappointed -- Not once in the 10 years I have been going to UA nails. I read some of the reviews less than 5 stars. I'm sure you too can see those people are petty, or suffer from entitlement disorders. I cannot stress enough how happy you will be with UA nails. Oh, and the owners are some of the sweetest people you can find. read more

Just a heads up, this place is not fancy or upscale, and not even a very relaxing atmosphere, but if you want your acrylics/fills done right, go to Tina. Prices are good and they take time with your pedicure. But make an appointment, so she can fit you in. My mom and I have gone here for years, thank you Tina! read more

I cant wait to come back here!!! I called at the last minute and asked to come in for a gel manicure and they took me in and did soo well and were so sweet. I didn't realize I asked for a color that took so much extra time and work on each finger and she still made sure I loved them. Such a great price and such good service!!! I've been to several nail shops not worthy of a review. I was stuck in traffic on the way home & realized..."Hey it's Friday, how about a nice pampering pedicure?" And that's when I found this perfect little gem. Parking can be a pain, but if your lucky, throw yourself on the ground and give thanks lol! (Yup I did) No appointment needed. I come here often because it is close to where I live and prices are reasonable. There is an older gentleman that I love to get for my pedicure because he is really meticulous and does a wonderful paint job. The downside is they can get pretty busy which means they can't take you or waits are indeterminably long. I like to bring my own polish because the colors they carry are not as up to date as I like and the polishes sometimes look like they are old enough to be replaced. Parking can be tough on Lakeshore but if you go a couple of blocks into the nearby residential areas, parking is free. If you decide to start coming here, make sure you ask for the customer appreciation card. When you fill it with enough stamps, you can get $10 off your next visit. read more

I came here to get a mani and pedi. It's a husband and wife owned place and they are doing their best during the pandemic. I got my nails done by a sweet lady name Linda. She's very good at her job! I highly recommend! She gives the best pedicures and takes her time to do it not rushing like everyone else. If you come here I'd recommend you find her. read more

This place is lovely, and clean. The owners are kind, and my husband's and my nails came out great. I've tried most of the salons on Grand and Lakeshore and this place is by far the best. The owners already got their vaccines and really care about their customers. Tina was so sweet she text me another place to sign up for our vaccine. They're really personable people that care about our community . We made appointments at 6pm on a Sunday and they gave us full treatments with no rush. Great customer service. read more

I called to ask whether I could come in without an appointment for a gel removal and manicure. They explained that they were a bit busy and asked me to come in 20 minutes. When I got in, they had me wait for about 10 minutes after picking a color. After that, it was smooth sailing. Kim, my manicurist, and I had a wonderful conversation during which she carefully worked on my nails and cuticles. I ended up staying there a lot longer than I would have expected, but I attribute this to the love and care Kim put into her work! I love how neat and trim my nails look, and the color is excellent. I let them know that I can't come back often because I'm a broke student, but I did take the list of their services so that if I decide to get my nails done again, I'd know what to expect. read more

As we begin to try and resume our new normal. I have mixed feelings about this salon. I've lived in this neighborhood for awhile and this salon has been a staple with previous and current owners. Since the current owners which have been a part of this community for several years now. I only do business here because of convenience, for the following reasons. (1) I like color and I feel they're just not keeping up with the trends. (2) those rank smelling towels they place on your feet, is just gross (3) the waxing area upstairs is musty. I sincere wish Tina and her staff all the best but after this past year. I've decided not do business her again. read more

So, I feel bad about giving this low rating but I can't with UA. 1) Tina is the only one who can do the acrylics. This is difficult because no one else in the shop speaks strong English or knows how to do the acrylics. It also seems like she mentors/instructs a lot of people in the shop on how to troubleshoot some of the equipment and translates for the ones who don't speak English well. Essentially, this means that Tina is very busy, can be distracted, and sometimes she gets stops mid treatment to help the other folks. This isn't the biggest issue but if you go (especially for acrylics) BE PATIENT. It will take longer than expected. 2) Filing down the nails to apply the glue/acrylic. This is more for the folks who get acrylics often. **filing down natural nails for glue/acrylic is an old practice of nail care and can lead to a greater risk of nail infection and weak/brittle nails". Tina scratches them down and all of that just to get the glue on. I personally would rather have my nails be as strong as possible after the acrylics come off. If they're already thinned down then they'll just be brittle and weak much longer after they come off. 3) **THE MOST IMPORTANT** Tina was busy when I came in to get the acrylics taken off (that's what happens when you're the only one who can do acrylics) so her husband started to take off my nails. Now, every other place I've been to does the file down & acetone technique. That's what I was expecting when I sat down. BRUH, this man clips down my nails and then proceeds to take a cuticle clipper to BREAK OFF the acrylic from my nails. When I say I howled...I HOWLED. It hurt :( I told him: "Could you please not do that and use acetone? It hurts and I don't want to bleed." He said "oh okay" and then got a file. I was relieved for a moment as he started to file a little bit of my thumb down but then proceeds to clip the acrylic off my nail with the cuticle clip. I politely (but sternly) had to ask him not to take care of my nails. Tina was listening (obviously) and then said that I'd have to wait until she was done with her current customer before she could help me. I said fine. I really didn't mind waiting in order to not have my whole nail ripped off. She then told me that instead of the traditional $10 for nail removal, it would be $5 more for the acetone. I didn't want to fight so I agreed and waited for ~20 mins while she finished up the other lady's nails. She did the process I asked for (filing down and the acetone removal) and I left as quickly as possible. It was wild. It's a shame because, aside from filing/scoring the natural nail down, she does do nice nails. The shape was great, color was great -- she suggested it. I went with my friend for their birthday and she (Tina) did a great job with the chrome. I honestly would suggest going if you need some acrylics but, ask her not to file/score down your natural nail during install, and PLEASE go elsewhere to get them removed. read more

The technicians are friendly and meticulous. They took their time with the details of my nails. They went out of their way to be accommodating and courteous. There is street parking. The nail salon is in a nice location nestled by tons of vintage shops, name brand stores and other local attractions. Their prices are posted on the walls. I appreciate this because there were no surprises. There are a plethora of magazines (up to date ones). I like that they catered to me. It was a really nice experience. read more

Tldr: avoid I give up on this place! I've been here a few times and I hate that I came back. Today, was the last straw. Usually I don't mind the lack of communication at nail shops. Today, I came in and wanted a gel manicure. For some reason even though I repeated at least 5 times that I already had gel on, she insisted to take a drill to my nails to remove my existing polish ( instead of foils). This of course cracked my existing nails! I told her that's not ok and she tried to blame it on me saying that I told her i had acrylic (which I didn't). Now I'm sitting here watching her try to glue my nails together. The worst part is that the woman who did my nails seemed like the owner or manager - so if anyone should have customer service it should be her. She knew they messed up and knew I wasn't thrilled, but at no point of the service did she try to make it right or try to make my experience better. I even had to insist they give me a full manicure (cuticles etc) when that is definitely part of the $30+ fee. I'm so sad, the nails I've been working to grow have been ruined. Such a horrible experience. There are far too many nail places to come here and have a stressful experience. This place isn't cheaper than other places and tbh the service is jank. You're supposed to feel relaxed after a nail salon, unfortunately today's experience did exactly the opposite. Also since I've been here a few times I notice that they treat certain people differently. Some people they will greet with hospitality and then other people (usually younger) they will show absolutely no hospitality to. Just an observation and room for improvement. read more

I love this place - they are VERY thorough and detail oriented here. My nails have always looked flawless and lasted 3-4 weeks with a gel manicure. Don't come here if you're rushing because a gel mani reliably takes 90 minutes but they put noticeably more effort into it than a lot of other places do and I think it's totally worth it. read more

OMG I love U A Nails, each time I've come Ms Tina does an amazing job, alongside her colleagues who are all very welcoming and they all do nails great! I really hate to admit when I am wrong, but I will do it in the interest of all that is fair. My nails actually last 2+ weeks when I come here. I can't say that about any of the other nail places in the area. And I have tried them all. I found a way to make peace with my previous shitty experiences here. I've established myself as a "regular" and they even know me by name. Granted, I don't know how to say "pain in the ass" in Vietnamese, but I'm sure that's what they call me. Whatever, I tip 50%. So, yes, I'm sure that it is shocking to most of you that I am opinionated, and at times, a HUGE headache. Tammy and Tina know how to handle me now, and will even put me in my place from time to time. We have an understanding. read more

Atmosphere: At first glance it looks nice, but then you start to notice that it is cluttered and could use some deep cleaning. There is dust and debris on the manicure stations and random clothing and flip flops scattered behind them. Also, there was a 3/4 gone frappucino that did not belong to me on the manicure station and it remained there throughout my manicure. Nail colors: All of the polishes seem to be old. There are no new or current colors, or color collections from OPI. Pricing: CHEAP! Can't argue the price. I paid $25 for my mani/pedi. Service: Though my toenails and fingernails did look good when I left, the process was not pleasant. They were rough with the tools and the massage was punchy. Both the manicurist and pedicurist were using the cuticle nippers to yank off my cuticles, little tiny bits at a time. After the pedicure was finished, they asked me to move to the manicure station to finish the manicure. Not a problem, but they didn't put a towel under my bare feet and the carpet was dirty. read more

I accepted the offer of a redo, and they were able to see me quickly. Now that I know what to expect with a Russian mani I was less surprised and able to appreciate the precision and skill needed for this type of service (though will caution anyone who's never gotten one before that it can be a bit uncomfortable; I recommend you look this up before trying it). My nail tech today also did a lovely job with the nail design. She was very skilled and meticulous with her work (grooming, polish and design) so I expect this set will last longer than my last. If you're getting a Russian mani, take note that you can expect it to take nearly 2 hours, so feed the parking meter accordingly. Overall, I am happy with my experience and will be back. :)

This place is great! Every time I'm in town I get my nails done here. They have great service and my nails last a long time. I went this Wednesday and everything was good as usual. They even helped me pick a color for my toes that complemented my hands but was a bit darker like I wanted. They also got all of the hard stuff off of my feet. I don't know what the previous comments are talking about because I saw them put a new sanding pad on the drill right before they sanded my feet. I just got their Shellac manicure earlier today and I am so pleased with the results. I went to dinner and got nice comments on my nails. They look way better than regular nail polish! The owner worked on my nails and she was very gentle. She also answered all of the questions that I had about the Shellac manicure. One of the other girls did my pedicure and my feet are so soft now. This was my first time getting GelX nails instead of acrylics. This salon doesn't do acrylics at all, so I didn't really have a choice. GelX is supposed to be healthier for your nails anyway, and I didn't notice much of a difference in quality. They had a huge selection of colors and powders. I asked for just a plain set with chrome powder on top, and they delivered! The service was also very good. I initially made an appointment with 2 other friends, but it was in the evening and there were only 2 nail technicians there, so my friends got their manicures before me. Even though it was past closing time, Cindy still offered to stay late to accommodate me. I had other plans though, so I offered to return in the morning, and she let me set up another appointment that worked with my schedule. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and with my nails!!
