I like to get full set acrylics when I can and I've been to many places in Oakland and Alameda where I'm just so disappointed at the quality of work. I wanted a regular nail tech who knows what she's doing; not timid with application or cleaning up cuticles, asks and checks in with you as you go, makes sure it's what you want, knowledgeable about color choices. And I also wanted somewhere in Oakland to support local. I finally found this place and the whole place is a lovely vibe! Right in the heart of Downtown, these ladies know how to run business here in Oakland and make you feel safe. So many regulars come in which means you know they'll treat you well and they have hospitality down in comparison to other shops I've been to. I bring my 15yr old daughter here sometimes. Q is my girl! She does quality work consistently! And I'm so glad to be her regular. They're all good nails techs. And A LOT of folks come in for eyebrows! Ann and Amy's has been around for awhile. This is where you come when you want a trendy full set. Pedicure chairs are pretty outdated and there are only two of them. They have at least 6 manicurist tables. They offer individual eyelash (not to be confused with lash extensions ) application and eyebrow waxing. The shop is quite small but they do have a restroom for customers. Service here is straight to the point, so you should have a pretty good idea what you want before you get there because they are moving clients in and out quickly. The shop is usually busy so I recommend making an appointment atleast 48hrs before you want to have your services. Priced reasonably for the area. Solid No Frills Nail Salon. read more

I never feel rushed or uncomfortable, the employees are very respectful. This last visit I wanted to splurge a bit and a full set. I use my hands a lot so I wanted to get something cute and short. They did a great job on the shape that I liked and even did a great job with my Ombré (even tho the color I picked was sheer as heck and made it hard) they did fantastic. So that was my bad. If you're in the area and in need of a quick mani or pedi this is the place. It's definitely a no frills and thrills kind of place so if your looking for a spa experience you'll be disappointed. I've been coming here for years and it works for me. Walk ins are accepted but certain days of the week (Friday/Saturday) or after 2pm you may be turned away because they do not overbook. Q is my favorite I generally book with her, I love her attention to detail and putting up with my random nail design requests. My friend and I went to get pedicures before a wedding and I got a manicure as well. The pedicure was great and my nails look gorgeous now. Needed a last minute gel manicure and found this awesome place! If you go, you have to ask for Mai. She was SO attentive, sweet, and accommodating. She was gentle in taking off my previous gel nails and offered to do 3 coats of my yellow so it could achieve the shade I wanted. What I noticed the most was that she took care of nails as if they were her own nails. She was quick, but also extremely detailed and would go back to fix my nail or cuticle if she didn't get it the first time. This is the cleanest set of nails I've ever gotten!! read more

Amy is an eyebrow *genius* who has been doing my eyebrows for years. I won't let anyone else touch them. She has a great eye and artistic talent. I get compliments from strangers on the shape of my eyebrows! I swear they look thicker when she's done. My niece is now a regular as well. I made an appointment here because it's the closest nail salon by work. I did see the very low star rating but many of the reviews rated it negatively for the manicure/fake nails processes. So I disregarded them because I was only getting a pedicure. BIG MISTAKE. While I was there I saw that she shaped someone's eyes brows nicely and decided to get mine waxed too. Bad idea! I was seen by one of the owners (Amy), who was super nice and friendly (1 star for this). First, I had an appointment, but ended up waiting for 15 mins to be seen because this is the type of salon that takes walk-ins. Why would I ever make an appointment again if I could just walk in and take someone else's spot? Next, Pedicure was mediocre, done in less than 15 mins. My heels weren't buffed at all. Massage was non existent. Finally, my eyebrow wax caused two painful burns above my lids. Amy was rushing because she had another pedi waiting in a chair. Maybe this is why she ended up burning me. I didn't know she had burned me until I left the salon and felt the sting of cold air on my face. Also, she actually cut my natural shape (as you can see in the picture). Love this place! They do the best eyebrows in the bay (and it's only $15). I moved out of state and come back to get my brows done EVERY time I'm visiting. The ladies who run the shop are the absolute sweetest and always remember me. They do great work at a reasonable price. When I used to get acrylic nails, they always used to last weeks without lifting when I got them done here. First I want to say I absolutely love Amy and Ann. They are both super nice and every time I come they accommodate me. I've gotten my eyebrows done here twice but I typically only get my pedicures here. If I had to choose a person for eyebrows I would choose Amy and for pedicures I would say Ann but everyone does great work. I typically call ahead before coming to make sure I don't have to wait long. This is my go to pedicure spot even though this is super out the way and inconvenient for me it is so worth it for quality and lasting work. If you're going to visit here consider bart if you hate searching for or paying for parking. The prices are decent. Because of my profession I don't get my nails done but i can definitely attest to their work as my cousin is a regular and they do a great gel set. read more

Prices were oddly cheap, and i love how meticulous and overly picky she was with my nails and waxing. I appreciate that attention to detail! I have been going too this shop for 6 years or so and the best nail person (Angela) doesn't work there anymore. I should have left then but I didn't, I stayed loyal to them. Until this past weekend. Since COVID there hours change a they say always make an appointment. Well when it's a holiday in the week, they seem to take off the whole week. Well everybody knows when you come back from taking off it's going to be busy. So called them up 2 days before wanting to come in only to be told they were booked, okay, so Amy one of the owners always answers the phone. She says okay I will put you down for Saturday of following week because we are busy. Fast forward to this past weekend, called on Friday to see what time was I scheduled. Only to be told, oh I made a mistake an didn't write it down. Granted I know mistakes happen, but it's how you resolve that mistake too make your long time customer happy. Well that didn't happen, rather instead she tried to put me off to come the next week, mind you this will be week 3 my nails aren't done after already being 5 weeks over do. Well I had enough, and after all that, she gets off the phone saying she couldn't talk too me when I am angry. So, since I am shown no loyalty as a customer, I have no Loyalty too them anymore. I always tipped, and let's not forget the expense of parking every time you go there. Worst manicure I have ever had in my entire life. No joke, no hyperbole. The WORST. This place is near my office, so I made an appointment to come in after work. Easy enough. I prefer my nails clean and short. They were getting kinda long so I wanted them cut a little and then filed, but not ONLY filed because I've found that when my nails are filed down too much, they tend to peel. I politely explained that to Mimi, the manicurist I was assigned to. She nodded, then ignored my request and began filing my nails. I pulled my hand away and explained again that I would prefer they be cut first. Amy came over and seemingly scolded Mimi in Vietnamese, after which I got yelled at by Mimi because it's the "same thing if I file!" Mimi proceeded to PUNISH ME for disagreeing with her. She cut my nails to the quick with nippers and then proceeded to attempt to file them, which amounted to filling away at the skin, so much that there is now raw skin at the tips of my fingers. She yanked my hands around while attacking my cuticles with said nippers, ignoring me and chatting with another customer about the new iPhone 5. After she was done yanking me around, she said "you pay now." I handed her a $20 and when she walked away, Amy came over again, looked at my nails, and asked me half-heartedly if I liked my manicure so far. I just looked at her. She responded, "I know how you feel, it's okay," and handed me their card with hers and Ann's names highlighted, instructing me to make an appointment with her "next time." Mimi came back with my change, and I still tipped her $2 (in hopes that I would at least get a decent nail polish job). No such luck. There is nail polish all over my cuticles and top coat everywhere, and she got up afterwards without so much as a goodbye. I've posted pictures (taken on BART, so classy) to show how short my nails are as well as the poor polish application. I know what you're thinking - Christy, why didn't you LEAVE when she first yelled at you?! You know, I don't know. Shock, I suppose. I wish I had, because now my fingertips literally HURT from how short my nails were cut. When I did leave, Amy smiled at me apologetically and said, "see you next time?" I shook my head. Maybe Ann and Amy are good at what they do. However, Amy's response, demonstrating that she KNEW Mimi's work and attitude were poor, yet choose not to do anything about it, is unacceptable from a business owner. I will tell everyone I know to avoid this place like the plague. read more

So Amy came to the rescue and fixed my sisters nails =] Anyways after that incident i still went back there to get my nails done by Ann. One time i called early to make an appointment as i got there she just started with someones nails and she knew i made an appointment first so i had to sit there waiting for roughly 30min-45min. after waiting so long i expected her to do my nails but NO she told Mimi to do them for me. first i thought ok Mimi's a girl n so must be ok right? but NO she buffed my nails so thin that it hurts really bad. then she applied the acrylics on really sloppy. She was rude n didnt listen to a word i say.. didnt even care that i was there watching her do my nails. She kept talking and laughing with Amy which made me feel really uncomfortable because i didnt understand a word they say. so it seemed like they were talking a lot of smacks. =.= After my acrylics has dried i told Mimi no ill just wait for Ann to be done with another customer to finish my nails. Ann told Amy to come help me. So i said ok.. I've seen her work before and they are nice.. so i didnt hesitate to let her finish. Amy is nice friendly and really funny but.. she was distracted by talking to her co-workers. So wasnt really paying attention at all to my nails =[ she made my nails really thick and fat looking =[ and my design was really off from the sample.. after that i just didnt bother getting my nails done here anymore.. btw this is a review from a year ago so idk if things has change a bit.. but honestly make sure Ann dose your nails!! read more

This place gets busy. Do yourself a favor and call to make an appointment. If you are a little late, do not expect them to wait for you. In fact you end up waiting for them if they take a walk in and they won't give you a heads up if it's taking an hour. I came with a friend who experienced this wait and am writing this right now because they did not apologize or say anything to my friend. I feel bad for bringing her here because they straight up ignored her. As a second time coming here, this place is only really worth it if you're getting acrylics because it's a good deal. Otherwise you have old nail polish selections (dry and half full), they have you put up with the full volume of the dull public access tv in the background, and not to mention it's just an outdated salon space. This is my second time here and as someone trying to find a good place that does gel nails for a reasonable price, I will not put myself through the stress of this place again. I won't ever come here again. I'm not sure if it's because I've never been here but everyone just kind of stared at me. Rude. Made an appointment for 12:00. I was 3 minutes late. I was told to sit. 10 minutes later they tell me to sit in a chair. Sat for another 15 minutes until this lady came over. Don't know her name. She looked like she had botoxed lips and she was kind of rude. I wanted a fill, cut down and nail design. Red flag number one should of been the fact she didn't know where anything was at the station. She cut my nails down, didn't check them to make sure they were the same length. She started my fill and when I pulled my hand to look at it(because she was doing a terrible job) she stomped her foot and had an attitude. Very uneven and very thin acrylic. You could still see the end of the original nail under the acrylic. She also cut me while filing because she filed so hard. Paint job was just as sloppy. I wanted starfish on my ring finger, I guess she couldn't do it so I sat for another 15 minutes to wait for another lady to do it. Doesn't look like starfish, looks like flowers. The lady who did the design also put the top coat on while the design was still wet and it smeared the design. I came here because I saw all the nice designs here on yelp, but I wish I never had. read more

5/20/22 I called at 10:30a before coming in as they take appointments. when I called Anne answered the phone. I said I wanted to make an appointment for today she said I can come in now if I want to. I said okay I will be in in 30minutes. When I got there there were not any techs available and she said I didn't call. I told her I have you on my phone. She looked stupid look on her face. It's always something with them when a schedule appointments or when I am getting my nails done. For example the last time I went 4 weeks ago, the pedicure tech I had tried to charge me $30, when it is $25. We had a short argument as I threw $25 on the pedicure chair and purposefully walked out. She said she gave me an extra item where she didn't. Plus even if she did(***which she didn't***) she never discussed it with me to ask me if I even wanted it. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ENJOY YOUR CUTICLES. SO MANY REVIEWS ABOUT DAMAGED CUTICLES. The lady who did my nails burn me several times around my cuticles with the drill. She even accident went up my pinky finger while looking away & left a burn. Everytime she burned me she just put blue liquid to stop the bleeding & continued filing away. A few days later I noticed one of cuticles had not healed. It was swollen and tender. I could tell there was liquid under that scab so I used clippers to remove the scab and pus came out. I've never had any infection in my entire life from a nail salon. And on top of that my nails looked terrible. I had to go get them repainted somewhere else. Came in super last minute because I was visiting Oakland from Sacramento and had a lot of time to kill but needed my nails done. I called them at 2:30 and they said someone will be available in 30 minutes. In 30 mins they sat me down and did my toes and my full set acrylic. One thing I hate about nail salons usually is that when they Are busy with appointments and walk ins, nail techs will rush filing and painting my nails. Even though they were busy and had other appointments, Amy still took the time to file down and make sure my nails were the right shape, she made sure each coat of polish was even, while working quickly enough at the same time, which I really appreciated. They wanted $35 and up for a full plus $10 for a gel and another $5 for 1 nail repair my my price would have been almost $50 for a fill I'm really no interested in paying that much and they still couldn't do the style I wanted originally (ombré pink and white) Overall they were nice at least but expensive and the 1 nail I did let them fix and paid $5 but I won't be getting a fill there!
