I found this place from a Craigslist and (sounds sketchy, I know), but I'm glad I did! I offered to be a model for eyelash extensions, and I'm very pleased by the work Nui did! Since this is a school, it took a bit longer (3 hours) than it would at a professional salon, but I'm glad she took her time! Is seems like they are making an effort to really teach their students well and to pay attention to detail! When I was getting my eyelashes done, another student even let me borrow her phone charger! During the service, there were quite a few people coming in and out, which is expected from a school, but a suggestion for improvement would be to have the students go into a different room if they were going to be socializing, so it wouldn't be too loud! Overall, the quality of service was great, just expect it to take longer than usual, since they are students! Parking: there is parking across the street that you can pay $5 to park during your appointment! (cash only)

If I could I would give this place zero stars.... Beware of a lady named Thuy. She LOVES to over charge people and she acts like she knows what she is doing because she claims to be a "professional" but honestly she needs to get her beauty license revoked! My biggest mistake was calling in to inquire if they did "balayage" services. Thuy picked up and she sounded confident about it so I thought it would be safe to give her a try. When I came in I showed her an example picture of the balayage I wanted. She told me it would cost more due to my hair length ~$190 almost mid back (mind you, I had been growing it out for quite some time so I definitely wanted to keep the length) Sketchy enough for the price, I had opted for the additional hair cut and decided on just a color. She began working on my hair and also another WARNING sign had occurred that I ignored since she claimed to be a "professional" I didn't want to question her techniques... After lightening my hair she was literally teasing my hair at the roots then painted on the color without seperating each strip with foil or plastic wrap... The WHOLE process took 6.5 hours... And within that time she put a buttload of chemicals on my hair.. washed and blow dried probably 3 times... But the end result was uneven almost peroxide ORANGE hair! It was my worst nightmare... I had endured almost 7 hours of wasted time and money where I could have just seen a REAL professional for the same price OR LESS in half the time and could have actually given me what I wanted. I demanded to speak with the owner Kim and I expressed how unhappy I was and that I had a wedding to go to in TWO days! While I was talking to her Thuy had the nerve to raise her voice with ME (the customer with orange hair!) saying she did what I asked for and pointed at the picture. NOPE, it was the complete opposite and far from what I had asked for. I did not ask to be transformed into a troll! Kim gave me a discount, but Thuy is lucky I even paid. But I've learned my lesson, I am NEVER EVER stepping foot into another Beauty School!

I didn't want to have nail polish put on because of rough edges.

Got a mani and pedi here, the kids are super nice here. However, there was no supervisor or teacher around when the apprentice perform their services. Easily the worst mani/pedi I've ever had. They just didn't know how to fix things when something didn't go well. Kudos to the kids that work very hard and handled unhappy customers nicely. Please have someone there to help them learn, as this is a "beauty school"

I found Vuu's while searching for a Groupon for microblading. As always, I filtered my findings through yelp and read a lot of positive reviews about their microblading procedure. I accepted the fact that it may be a student working on me because I knew that the instructor would be very involved, and you couldn't beat the price. I was thrilled to find out that only the master microblader Kim would be performing the procedure. She is SO GOOD. Sadly, I've never been able to grow my eyebrows, so she pretty much had a blank canvas. I was amazed by the perfect, natural looking brows that she had created. She went above and beyond my expectations, and my expectations are always high! I have a pretty low pain tolerance so I was a bit worried about that but she used a strong numbing cream and it really helped. Trust me on this one, if you are looking for microblading, Kim is your girl!!!

TL;DR: This place seems fine for haircuts, poor for nail services. I came here for a gel mani and pedi for a living social voucher I purchased. I called to make an appointment but apparently too early in advance because I arrived and there was no one there to do nails. Fine, someone took my number and called me back half an hour later telling me to come back again. Just a waste of time, don't bother with appointments and just call day of. When I got there she seemed concerned about my closed toed shoes, and gave the impression that there were no disposable flip flops or means to dry my toes (fortunately both were false and they do have the regular pedi accessories). The pedicure was nothing to write home about but it did come out clean. No buffing or foot scrubbing of any sort though. My gel mani was unfortunately awful, tepid water, refused to clip my nails (so what if I like them short), no buffing or smoothing at all. She didn't let it cure properly and turned out very patchy. I picked a nude that turned out to be a little sheer and asked for an additional coat and she refused. Finished with a whole load of alcohol and mixed the lotion right in. I totally get that they are a school and in training but for double the time of a normal mani-pedi it was a fraction of the effort.

I went all the way to Seattle for a haircut and manicure. Strange I know. It wasn't really part of the plan but the whole no haircut for 9months in order to grow it long finally pissed me off enough. I'd always wanted to get a cheap haircut from a student so decided to take the opportunity walk into Vuu's UPSIDE - super duper cheap haircut and style ($10) and French manicure ($8 - but she gave me a $1 off just because) - whilst it's a student cutting your hair, their teacher came at the end to help tidy my hair up and teach her what she should be doing - with their limited English ability they manage to come across as super friendly DOWNSIDE - communication is a problem when trying to describe how you want your hair cut. I came prepared with photos and advise you do too - the manicure is very simple (no fan to dry your nails with) but still done well - my haircut took a bit longer than normal, not that I was in a rush. Not for the time poor or impatient OVERALL Happy with my haircut. It's no longer a thick mess of please grow 10cm in the next week so I can have long hair again. Nails are pretty and girly. My bank account is happy I spent less for both compared to just getting one of these back home. WINNER!

My hair stylist Sophia was very attentive to my request and careful in washing, cutting, and styling. The instructor checked constantly and made a few small changes to my layers. I recommended thinning since my hair quickly grows thick, and Sophia immediately fixed the cut. For the quality, price, and attention to detail, the haircut was amazing. The only downside is the long appointment time (I finished near 5:30), but it was understandable since the students needed to check their plan and each step with the instructor. I would 100% come back and recommend customers here.

Once I was eventually taken in. It took over 40 minutes after the consultation for the student to begin working on my hair because they were still writing notes and preparing their sheet. The service itself felt inconsistent and poorly managed. I understand this is a training environment, but there seemed to be a lack of structure and time management throughout. My color turned out chunky and stripy, and it was very obvious that at least two different people worked on my hair because my original stylist needed assistance mid way through the coloring. One side came out significantly more orange than the other, and it honestly looked like I had months of grown-out color. After my hair was washed, I was told they "didn't have time" to finish with a blowout. Instead, I was given a card for a complimentary blow dry for another visit, which I was fine with and they said we'd do a rough dry. Since it was 6, which was closing time the instructor stepped in to "rough dry" my hair. There was no product and they did a few passes. I left with my hair about 90% wet. I was shocked that they allowed me to leave the appointment in that condition. Not until I went home and fully dried my hair was when I noticed that my hair cut was uneven. My original 1 PM appointment didn't end until around 6:15 PM. I later emailed them about the experience and, after escalating it with multiple people, they brought me back 2 days later for a correction appointment, which took about 3 hours. I'm still not fully happy with the result, but it will have to do for now while my hair recovers from being processed twice within 48 hours. Overall, I would strongly advise having very low expectations. I would not recommend getting your hair colored here. A simple trim might be okay, but even that feels like a gamble depending on who you get.

I'll start off by sharing a positive experience I had at The Studio Seattle, which was getting to…read morelearn from Hailey Henderson. Hailey is as excellent of an instructor as she is an actor. She clearly loves teaching and is incredibly knowledgeable about acting theory and applications. Hailey has high expectations for her learners and is also deeply compassionate, a perfect combination for creating an effective learning environment. I am immensely grateful to have been able to learn with her. Hailey is the primary instructor for The Studio Seattle, whereas Andrew Tsao is the artistic director and founder. Andrew was going to cover the last several weeks of classes in my Acting Foundations 2 class series, and prior to this he co-taught a class with Hailey. In this class, Andrew had us participate in exercises where we would be improvising interactions with a scene partner. These scenes were meant to be highly realistic- we were playing ourselves and had similar relationships to each other as we do in real life. Our objectives and given circumstances were given to us individually, without our scene partner's (or the class's) knowledge. In one scene, Andrew had one of our male classmates play the role of a sexual predator towards not one, but two of our classmates. When his scene partner responded to his unwanted advances authentically, by attempting to distract the perpetrator and leave, Andrew told her that she was responding incorrectly and that should/would in fact "fight". He also told her that her "avoidance" would be a hindrance to her as an actor. In another scene, part of the given circumstances was that one of my classmates had had an abortion. I followed up with Andrew expressing my concern that not one, but two extremely sensitive topics, particularly for women, were chosen for these exercises. I stated that that the nature of the exercises required us to be ourselves, thereby increasing the level of sensitivity and creating a high potentiality for trauma/re-traumatization. I acknowledged that while actors do work with difficult content, we get to choose and consent to this, which was not an option in this situation (since we did not know our scene partner's backgrounds or objectives). I stated my expectation that content will be more thoughtfully chosen for these exercises moving forward and that learners be made more fully aware of their options. Andrew's initial response acknowledged that he could have been more thoughtful in ensuring everyone was aware that they could opt out of the exercises. He did not address my concerns over the nature of the content itself, other than implying that more experienced actors would have been fine with the content (I have since heard from multiple other acting instructors that this is not at all the case). I responded by saying that I appreciated his effort to improve transparency around opting out of exercises moving forward. I again stated my concern over the content itself, particularly as it relates to women, and expressed skepticism that more experienced actors would have been fine with the content. Overall, I felt like my concerns were dismissed. Andrew responded by disinviting me to continue attending classes at The Studio Seattle. Based on my experience, I'm of the opinion that Andrew Tsao is not interested in feedback as it relates to the safety of his students, particularly women. For this reason, I would caution any woman/female person against taking classes at The Studio Seattle.

Alana's deep understanding of theory and process offers the groundwork to feel comfortable and prepared for the deeper work in Foundations 2, while Aaron has a magical way of balancing thoughtful and respectful lessons with a humility and irreverence that creates a joyful space to learn and try new things. Thank you, Andrew for creating a welcoming, enriching, and intensive space in Seattle.
