I've been going to this shop for a while now, but this was my first time working with Ella, and I honestly couldn't be happier with the experience. I came in for a lock repair and reattachment service, and the level of care and attention to detail she brought to every row was incredible. She was extremely thorough, patient, and intentional in her work, and it really showed in the final result. Ella also did a great job answering all of my questions throughout the process, explaining what she was doing and why, which made me feel really comfortable and confident in her expertise. This is hands down the best I've felt about my locs after a repair service. I love to support Black Owned business, I'm new to Seattle so I tried this shop, I was very disappointed; my hair is not even a month old and it looks horrible, my coworkers could not believe they charged me 75.00 dollars to take down a very simple crochet braids, this style usually cost me 150.00 And that's with a take down. The lady who washes my hair was fantastic, I can't remember her name but the wash so on point I tipped her 20.00. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! ZERO STARS I wanted to like this salon, but everything about it screams lazy and UNPROFESSIONAL! Today, for the 3rd time, they cancelled my hair appointment after 6pm the day before. If I were to do that to them I'd be charged a fee or the cost of the appointment all together. Additionally, you can try and set up an appointment by calling, but good luck as they NEVER pick up their phone. You could try and schedule an appointment online, but keep in mind that the appointments you "schedule" aren't actually scheduled unless you get a follow up email saying they have confirmed they will in fact keep the appointment you "scheduled " online. Oh, and this email will come a few days before your "scheduled appointment" or not at all, so you're never sure if you actually HAVE an appointment. read more

I love Lem Lem! Good Hair's prices are very reasonable, she is super efficient, and she does what you ask of her without trying to upsell you. I have a LOT of long, curly hair, but I would come with it washed and detangled. Lem Lem would sit me down for a trim and would have me in and out in an hour without using any heat. She could have my hair blow dried and corn rowed in 45 minutes. She's a magician! After moving away from Seattle, I miss Good Hair so much. Go book with her! read more

I wanted to share my updated review since the change of ownership with this salon. I have an attached picture and have waited patiently for a year for the owner to resolve this issue and failing to do so. I made a hair appointment to get kinky twist prior to the appoinemtna I had inquired about what tyupe of hair woul;d sbe besty to use I was advised and brought the type of hair that I was advised would be best to use. I also had advised that I work multiple jobs and time is VERY important What happened next was a nightmare. My hair seemed fine once I left the shop by the time I got home my hair slowly started to unravel and by this time I had to get ready for work, working multiple jobs as I had stated earlier I did not have time to come back to the shop as the shop had suggested to fix it so I inquired about a credit. The owner stated to submit pictures which I did and then I called the shop daily for the owner who never was there or was busy. I think the owner Michelle dodged my calls I had called well over a month. By this time I did not want to get my hair done again and wanted all or some of my money back because my hair had came all the way unraveled with days of getting my hair done. This has yet to be resolved by the shop and due to the new owner I will NEVER do business with this shop again!! read more

Great salon! It's spacious, clean, plays smooth R&B, and the owner is a sweetheart! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for a salon to do any natural hairstyle, I highly recommend Good Hair Salon. The prices are fair for the type of excellent service you receive. I simply showed a picture of the type of braids I was looking for and boom, done to perfection! I will say that if you make an appointment on the weekend, which are their busiest days, you'll likely be there for several hours. So plan your day accordingly. First time at this shop. Melissa gave 5 star service. She's super sweet, listens, executes and does a good job at it. I was very happy with my hair. She was gentle and knew how to work with my tresses with meticulous care and concern. I can't wait to get back in her chair. Why 4 stars? The shampoo/conditioner was performed by someone else, who did not do a great job. I warned her that my hair is very kinky textured and suggested that she wash my hair in twists. She assured me that she could wash it without the twists. I let her. I felt like hair was not really washed or conditioned. She was struggling to detangle it and I felt like she was pulling my hair out while trying to get through the kinks. I could tell that she did not really actually give a good detangle, which Melissa had to go over when she came over and saved the day. Thank goodness. Bottom line: I look forward to going back to sit in Melissa's chair, but I will request someone more experienced with my hair texture to wash and condition it. read more

Note: the main reason why I'm giving this salon this rating is because I had to wait about an hour to be seen by a stylist even though I had made an appointment. I received a free deep condition for my first appointment which was nice, and I got simple cornrows done by a black lady named Melissa I believe. For the shampoo, blow dry, and cornrows, the total was about $65. She did them quickly and painlessly! I'll definitely be coming back here for my routine hair appointments :) I also recommend making an appointment online because they can get quite busy. read more

My daughter and I had our hair braided here. Both times they ran behind and were working on multiple heads. We waited 30-45 mins. But once we were in the chair it was full focus. The owner daughter working the desk was very pleasant and hair care knowledgeable. She gave great tips/ products suggestions to wear hair natural. I would come back, just bring a snack or drink because you will have a slight wait. Lastly the price was reasonable (for Seattle), but I did come with my hair pre washed and stretched at my own decision. They offered to wash but I liike to air dry stretch before braids. read more

Yea- don't even bother. They charge an extra $10 for any hair past shoulder length which to me is ridiculous as a salon. Your business is hair- not short hair. The prices vary based on the experience of the technician which I get but if you call to book you will be given the more expensive one so just be mindful of that and let them know your preference. I tried calling this time because booking online last time I received a follow up call that the appointment slot was actually not available. After she told me 110 for a trim and retwist. And 95 for a two strand twist for my daughter!?!? That's including the extra ten because our hair is longer than shoulder length. What the hell? I pay $45 - 65 for a wash blow and twist for a 9 year old and no more than 65 70 for a retwist anywhere on the east coast. I'll keep doing it myself for those prices. Lol they are definitely lost in their own sauce here. Go elsewhere! read more

I had a very bad time here. I explained what I wanted but there was a miscommunication, and I ended up with a style I didn't want. I was ready to eat my loss, but the stylist kept badgering me, saying things like, 'people pay a lot of money to look like this' and 'are you going to not tip because you're unhappy'. I just tried to laugh it off and finish the service, but she just kept going and saying things like, 'people who work in IT should be smarter than that', loud enough for the everyone in the shop to hear. In the end, I felt humiliated and wanted to leave as quickly as possible. The receptionist was nice and discreetly asked if I'd like a do over and gave me a discount, I left and cried in my car for like 30 minutes. but yeah....I will never return to this salon. read more

Walked in & was immediately welcomed. Beautiful shop, nice colors around. Lots of space if you were to come with your family, central location. Parking could be tricky as you are in the central district. Depending on what time & day. So be mindful if you have an appt and need to park. Lots of parking around the park across the street though. Lem Lem is great, she twisted my hair so fast, all while having a great conversation. Ona right next to her was great as well. She thought I was a spy lol. . I love them. Good environment. Let me start by saying that Lem Lem is wonderful. I went in about 6 months ago for a trim and she was very professional and gave a me a very flattering trim. Unfortunately she was the only highlight of my visit. I have been going to this salon for years and never considered going elsewhere until recently. I believe they are under new ownership and it is a damn shame. The salon was unorganized and messy. There was hair everywhere! The waiting area was totally run down and cluttered with salon supplies to the point where I was unsure where to sit while waiting for my appointment which started 20 minutes late. The receptionist treated me like a nuisance and literally yelled across the room to Lem Lem that her appointment was here. Honestly I forgave all this when Lem Lem was finished and I loved my trim. My hair felt pounds lighter and significantly healthier! It was also very affordable! However, I recently went online to schedule another appt with Lem Lem but received a generic email that there was a conflict and I needed to reschedule. After attempting to reschedule 3 more times and receiving 3 more generic emails asking me to reschedule, I decided to give it one more try and emailed the salon directly. This is the response I received: "I can give you a call. But it's the time you are asking for. She take her last appointment at 4:00pm. thank you" I manage the front desk at my job and I know I would get fired if I ever sent out a sloppy and unprofessional email like this. If Lem Lem ever moves I would happily go to her again, but I will not be returning to Good Hair. read more

Been coming here since 2010, but I'm just. . .DONE. Bottom line: The new owner just doesn't know what she's doing. At. All. - Rude or nonexistent customer service - Staff shows up late--or not at all - Appointments cancelled or missed with no notice - Salon is often dirty and unmaintained The previous owner spent years carefully building a successful business based on stellar customer care and delivering the best hair care, styling, education, and products in Seattle. The stylists were at the top of their game, and happy working there. It was a loving, family atmosphere, and a friendly community space. Now all of the great, longtime stylists have left--either joining other salons, or starting businesses of their own. I choose to seek them out and give them my business instead--they learned from the best (Good Hair's original owner, Danyale Thomas Ross). If you're considering going to Good Hair as it is being run today, my strong advice would be to GO ELSEWHERE! A couple of years ago I decided I was tired of using relaxers in my hair. Not only had I been wearing different variations of the exact same hairstyle for over 15 years, I was just tired of the chemicals, the breaking, the maintenance, & the politics. But I was chicken. Seriously afraid. Women are judged by their hair. Ethnic women even more so. I wore a tiny afro in junior high and hated it because it wasn't considered "pretty" or "feminine". I was already different and nerdy - couldn't I have cute hair? Jeez. Ultimately though, my decision to go natural was about embracing my natural beauty and the essence of who I am; a milestone in my spiritual journey and discovery of self. So after many months of research I had my hair braided to grow it out before the Big Chop. During that time, I was reading the Afrobella blog and a commenter recommended Good Hair Salon for Seattle area bellas. The shop is warm and inviting, with great music and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Word to the wise - they are IN DEMAND. Do not be surprised if they are booking a month or more in advance. It's street parking, so plan accordingly. I wouldn't bet on a walk-in appt - definitely call first & you might get lucky. There's an extensive selection of professional haircare products that can sometimes be hard to find locally, including Miss Jessie, KinkyCurly, & Carol's Daughter. I picked up a really cute pair of locally made earrings also. My stylist was Zue, who was kind, supercute, funny, and made me feel completely at ease. She and Danyale seemed amused by my internet shenanigans (bc of *course* I tweeted the entire experience on twitter, complete with photos on twitpic) and were very patient during my minor freakout afterwards. It was a tough transition, and more emotional than I expected, but I love the cut and wouldn't change a thing! I would definitely recommend the Good Hair Salon for anyone who is looking for high quality, professional hair care. The pricing seems about right for the level of care; for those who think it's expensive - you're paying for experience, knowledge, & expertise! Yesterday, I went to an appointment at Good Hair Salon in Seattle for just a trim which I get every 3 to 4 months, I just moved from California and would go in for my trim with no problems. Unfortunately, there are very few natural salons in Seattle. The lady that made my appointment was very nice. When I arrived, no one acknowledged me, everyone just looked at me crazy (typical for back in the day, when I used to go to black salons). After several minutes, a lady asked to help me and found my appointment. The stylist came over and asked me to sit in the last chair and, she came over with a blow dryer. I asked her if she planning on using that on my hair, she said yes. I told her I don't use direct heat on my hair, she told me that she can't cut my hair without it being straight. ..WHAT! ?! I told her I always just wash, deep condition, pick-out my hair and get a trim. She just looked at me, so I left. Went to another Salon who claims to only hire people who can work in all types of Hair with additional training, but also wanted to blow dry my hair "to make sure it's even". I found a great Salon I AM Natural...they couldn't believe what I went through, squeezed me in, (commented on how healthy and thick my hair is), trimmed it as is...did a great job and in 20 mins I was done! Someone needs to train some of these salon stylists on what truly natural/no heat means :-) read more

I am extremely disappointed with my hair. One of the stylist (Eka) put loc extensions in my hair in December of 2015. The hair is not matching with my hair, you can see the knots where the hair was attached. I had major slippage. So on less that 6 months I have spent over 1300 in getting the locs and with repairs. Hmm. Where to start? Well, I submitted an appointment request on July 28th for a wash, blow dry, and trim to take place on August 4th at 1pm with stylist Michelle Clark. Took a couple days for them to confirm my appointment which was fine. Leading up to my appointment I got multiple reminders via email and texts. Fast forward to today (Aug 4th) I arrive a little before 1. When I walk in, there's a few stylist with clients in their chair so I just sat in a chair by the front. 5 min later a stylist comes up to me who I thought was mine but she asks me what my name is and what I'm getting done. After I give her the info she's like "oh you're with Michelle-she's not here I don't know where she is" -_- So I sit there for a little bit, I figured maybe because I'm early she just hasn't arrived yet. But then, the stylist who came up to me is now on the phone with Michelle saying her clients here but Michelle acted like she didn't know she had a client. Girl had to tell her my name, what I'm getting done and everything. HOW SWAY!?!?! How did I get 5 reminders via different forms of communication and you didn't even know you had a client? How do you physically confirm someone's appointment 4 days earlier and then forget? My questions are endless. THEN after she gets off the phone she asks if I can come back after 2. No I cannot ma'am I have things to do. I will say the lady who came up to me was very kind and trying to be helpful she even offered to try to squeeze me around her clients which I declined but I appreciated the offer. Awesome natural hair shoppe. The folks here are friendly and do awesome work! I just recently locked up and have been getting maintenance shampoos and up-dos there. The ladies schooled me on products (which they sell in-shop) and at-home care. And at the shampoo bowl they unusually give a mean massage! I have seen her grow from working in someone's salon to owning her own. I much like the later. In addition, many feel that natural hair doesn't need maintenance. We all know that's a myth. GHS really educates the client and ensures you quality service to boot. Good Hair Salon has a good feeling kind of vibe. I stopped by because I needed some supplies for a photo shoot with two models who are sporting afros. I took my daughter to Good Hair and will never come here again. Was told on phone my daughter needed a consultation before they would make an appointment for braids. We came in and was told she didn't need a consultation for braids by a different person. Made an appointment with the stylist we specifically came here for. Told it would cost $55. She said she could do the appointment herself when the receptionist asked her. Got two emails and two texts to confirm. Oh, also a text to bring cash because their machine was down. We arrive 20 mins early and are told that the stylist was booked and couldn't do it. You couldn't have included that in your text? The front desk person said we needed to have had a consultation. I told her we came in for one and were told she didn't need it. Now the different receptionist said they are going to charge us $10 more. Mind you for the person we did not want....I am livid. Trying to support the CD businesses and I can't any more. Plus it stinks like weed in here. Never coming back!!! Our businesses have to do better if they want our support. read more

Id like to give a shout out to the new manager at Goodhair. After finding out that the old manager left, I decided to give the salon another try. I spoke to the new manager about my last experience and the salon was able to accomodate me. They gave me a new style (with a low cost) with my favorite stylist Lem Lem and I was very pleased with the results. Although it looks like their going through growing pains with a large staff turnover it seems that their going to bounce back. I wish the new owner and managers well.
