I've been here on more than 10 occasions. It's a good deal on an okay haircut, but the service here is awful. You walk in unacknowledged, sometimes for 10 minutes at a time. The English of the students isn't always great, which led to one of my haircuts being pretty much everything I didn't want (and communicated). The interview I had the day after was extra fun as you can imagine. They also close early without notice, and I've been turned away twice because of this. I've had to run to the ATM multiple times, because their card reader sucks. In the year or so I've come here, they haven't done a thing about it. I wanted to support a Vietnamese business, but it's just too much. Never coming back. Pay for a real haircut and people that'll actually greet you. I wish I could discourage you more. read more

You walk in they will say hello, then go to the back to play paper, rock, scissor, whoever loses will be the one cutting your hair or whatever your there for. Worst experience ever!!!!! Place was dirty and not like a salon type of messy either. I CAN NOT EXPRESS THIS ENOUGH DO NOT GET MICROBLADING HERE!!!!!! This is not a professional school at all. The students seem nice but the ink is cheap and Vuu is the only instructor and is all over the place she is not professional at all. She went too deep on my brows and they are red. I recently had my hair cut at Vuu beauty school by a student there. The school just remodel and look very welcoming. The student that cut my hair was very friendly and know what she was doing. Her name is Jenny and very cute too. I definetly reccommend people to come to vuu beauty school for a hair cut. I had orginally given this school a 5 star rating, but after my last visit I had to change my rating. My last visit was very different then my preceding visits. This last time, the salon was filthy, the students dropped combs on the floor and picked them up reusing them on the clients. I even witnessed the students stations with hair everywhere and those students leaving their combs and styling tools in the preceding customer's hair. GROSS!!!!!!!! In fairness, Kim, the owner was not in the salon. But there was NOT an instructor present. Which was confirmed by the senior student. I asked for an instructor and he stated that there was not one on the premises. IS THAT LEGAL????? If you go here....make sure there is an instructor onsite for your visit!!!! The students were rude to the clientele and did not follow health regulations. Ms Kim is an awesome and talented instructor! This review is long over due. I'm generally not very comfortable with most stylist in the area because as much as they like to tell me they know how to handle my thick Asian hair, they don't. However I had full faith in Ms Kim and her students that attended to my hair. I got my hair dyed and trimmed. She helped me figure a good reddish brown color that would be perfect for this weather we're currently experiencing here in Seattle. The color, since then, has lightened lightly and looks like I've got a caramel ombré, which is a bonus! I highly recommend this salon if you want a quality color and cut! It's a beauty school - so not a whole lot of ambiance is expected. But, this place has zero ambiance or effort into decor. That's okay though! I can forgo that for a decent manicure. I called ahead and asked if they could fit me in for shellac. They said yes. Then when sitting at the table I asked for a manicure (with shellac). She said she would do it, but she actually just gave me a regular manicure. I was already there, however, and for $7 it's not a big deal. I'll take what I can get for a last minute appointment. In fact, even with all of that I still would have gone there again. The manicure looked beautiful. But. It's lasted less than a week. So, needless to say I had a lot of hope that it would work out but the poor longevity of the manicure is ultimately why I decided I couldn't give them a good review (combined with the other issues as well). After she finished my manicure, her and a friend just up and left the salon for the night. Didn't even tell me goodbye or how to pay. And they also didn't provide me with a nail dryer. So I just sat there, awkwardly alone, waiting for my nails to air dry. There were two others working and they didn't provide any help either. Finally I had to just generally ask into the air - "Where do I pay?" Overall, bad location, poor service, it's worth the extra money to go someplace nicer. My experience- I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. 1.Checked out yelp- wanted a cheap hair cut in the ID.. decided to check out vuus 2.I walked in, every single student was laughing at me.. Ok.... I got my eyebrows microbladed here as a model for the students and here is my honest review: I think they did a great job on my eyebrows. I've never had this done and im still healing so I don't really know what to expect, but they do look great. My appointment was supposed to be from 12-3pm. I got there at 11:50am and was told to go upstairs and wait. I did not start getting my eyebrows done until 1:50pm. (Yes, I was keeping track of the time) They did have lunch and snacks, water etc. there for everyone which was great but it was a bit chaotic there. I finally started the process and YES IT WAS FUCKING PAINFUL. They did use numbing cream but it was only on for literally 2 minutes before they started. It's supposed to be 30 min. Anyway, it fucking hurt and I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so that sucked. I was finished at about 5:45pm and they took pictures and handed me a sheet of paper with aftercare instructions. I asked MANY questions about the whole process and aftercare but the language barrier was pretty significant. In no way am I bashing this place, I really do think they did a great job. It's what you would expect from getting anything done by students in training. The only thing I had an issue with is the aftercare instructions. They really didn't tell me shit and the paper they gave me was ridiculous. It says do not under any circumstance get your brows wet, the the next sentence says wash your brows with soap and water 3 times a day. SMH. Oh well, I called around to other places and got help with aftercare instructions. So, all in all my experience was fine. They are really nice people, and the owner is very nice too. read more

I was 2 months overdue for a haircut before I started looking for a good place to cut my hair. It was difficult to make a decision since I am new to the area and hundreds of miles away from my stylist. After a long search for potential salons, I decided to go with Vuu's Beauty School after reading the reviews. Since this is a beauty school, students of Vuu (I can only guess that's her name...) gain their experience from cutting customer's hair and get graded or reviewed on their work after they are finished. It takes a bit more time, but is super cheap! $7 men's cut!? Insane! The student I got was Yoko, a senior at the beauty school. She's really nice and is extra careful when cutting your hair. My hair was long and ugly. Since Yoko has only seen me with just my bum-like hair, she did not believe me when I told her to use a 1 on the sides and the fade. After telling her how I wanted my hair, the fun began. I am also a full-time glasses wearer, so this added to the excitement and anxiety. I took off my glasses and she cut. I'm used to lengthy haircuts, but this was rather pleasant. Other students as well as her teacher came by to see how it went. I learned that Vuu (I think that's her name - the owner) could speak many languages: cantonese, mandarin, vietnamese, japanese, english, and possibly more. Everyone was really nice and it wasn't awkward at all when Yoko was being observed. After she was finished cutting, I put on my glasses and I was beyond satisfied. She did an awesome job while performing under the watchful eyes of her superiors and carrying a normal conversation. Yoko and Vuu asked if I wanted the shampoo and massage after my cut and told me that it was only $2. I usually go home right away to wash my hair myself, but being that I was going to spend the rest of the day waiting for my girlfriend to get off work, I thought I'd rather not be itchy and pokey. The shampoo is definitely worth your time and for only $2? No-brainer here. Yoko's scalp massage was enjoyable! I tipped Yoko generously and left feeling like brand-new me again. Bottom line: Come here if you have the time on a day off to help the students gain more practice. It's cheap and they spend their time cutting your hair. Hell, just come here for the shampoo and massage for $2! read more

I love when people remember you. Ms Kim, the instructor not only recognized me as soon as I walked in -- she remembered the haircut I wanted! This after not having been back for about a year. I was very impressed and immediately felt welcome. So to start my long layered cut, my hairdresser Richie proceeded to give me the best shampoo ever. I sometimes wish I had the kind of hair that needs more maintenance, just so I can get these head massages more often. Richie was super courteous and very very focused on making sure that I was okay, explaining what she was doing and asking questions so that she knew what I wanted. I definitely felt from the beginning that she had everything under control. Not something you'd expect from a student, so my haircut went very nicely. And quickly, maybe an hour altogether after Ms Kim made her slight adjustments. My hair came out wonderful. And it was better *after* I washed my hair and styled it the way I normally would. AND it cost $11, though I definitely gave a really good tip. Couple things keeping me from giving that final star: the place could use a little more cleanliness and organization, maybe a desk person who just handles calls and payments? I called to make an appointment and got no response, and paying was a bit awkward since Ms Kim was upstairs or something and Richie wasn't sure how much to charge, and really it should be someone else handling the register. Also maybe a more professional attitude from the students and teachers. I understand that we are in the ID and a lot of the clientele is Asian. However, I really think that constantly talking in a different language is a bit rude and I myself always tried to be mindful of that when I worked in front of customers. By all means speak that language with the customer if that is where they are comfortable, but among yourselves, try and speak in a more universal language specially when there are customers and other students who won't understand you. read more

I purchased their Groupon deal for a gel manicure and a pedicure. I called the establishment at 5:20pm Wednesday to make an appointment for 5:30pm the following day (Thursday). I spoke with a woman and let her know I was wanting to use the Groupon deal I had purchased and I told her I would like to come in at 5:30 the next day. She asked for my name, confirmed the date and time again, then the conversation ended. Yesterday at 5:29 I walked into the establishment and let them know I was there for my 5:30 appointment. I was hostilely greeted by saying my appointment had been for 5pm and I was late. I told her she must be mistaken, I had called about 24 hours ago to make an appointment, gave my name to the woman on the phone, and was told that a 5:30 appointment would work. Confusion ensued between her and a few other workers. I let them know I had clarified many times on the phone that I would be there at 5:30. The main woman I was talking to said there was no one there to help me, one of the students who would be doing my nails needed to go home to take care of her niece and her instructor had left at 5. They were unwilling to work with me, let alone apologize for the inconvenience that I would not be able to get my nails done today. They were hostile and rude and didn't seem to care about having me as a customer one bit. I have an event tonight (Friday) and needed my nails done yesterday. They gave me one option to make another appointment, this morning at 10am. I told them I work and could not make that time. In response to this, she threw up her hands, walked away and said we cannot help you. I would not recommend giving business to an establishment that conducts their business and treats customers in such an unprofessional manner. I issued a complaint with Groupon and luckily, I was able to get a refund. read more

I second the other reviewer who said to come in to this place with an uncomplicated haircut in mind. Mine was uncomplicated, I thought, until the first student cutting my hair started messing up. She didn't know how to do layers or razor cutting, really, so it was all blunt, choppy cuts. Really looked like a home cut. I knew she must have been new. I felt badly for both her and myself. (Echoes of Christina R's #3.!) Luckily, a more experienced student came by and rescued me (I even asked her if she was the instructor. She wasn't but had been cutting her own hair for years). Now I have a cut bob with slanted bangs and fangs on the sides. I'm giving Vuu's five stars because i got a really cut haircut in the end and only paid $6 before tip. Yep, this is a beauty school so remember that when you're going in. If the haircut starts badly, you can ask for the instructor or a more experienced student (always choose the young woman with a snazzy haircut herself) to swoop in for the fix. Also, it takes a while for the actual cut (but not to get in the styling chair. it never seems busy at Vuus) but, for a $6 haircut, it is kind of quid pro quo: more of your time for a super cheap cut. read more

It is difficult to find a good barber. Especially for me, as I tend to be picky. Ever since I moved to seattle, I've tried approximately 6 barbers before finding Vuu's beauty school. I absolutely love the outcome each and every time. Ms. Kim is always so cheeful and always smiling. She doesn't personally cut my hair but her attitude and how she interacts with her clients really stands out. Maybe I'm just the type that hates to sit in a hair for 20+ minutes and not say a single word..haha My barber(Phi), to me, is one in a million. He is on of the instructor there and is very talented. He was born to be a hair stylist. He always accommadate to my needs regardless if it's small or big. I always leave happy and if something doesn't please you, he'll fix it, no questions ask. He will also give you his input on your hair style if it will look good or not. They also offer other services here in addition to cutting yor hair. From coloring, curling, straightening, manicure and pedicure. Although I can't vouch for those service since I have not tried but many friends and families can. read more

It's been two days since my first visit to Vuu's for a gel manicure and omg, I have never seen my nails look this gorgeous! (See pic of red nails and gold party nail). THe ladies are super sweet and friendly, unlike other nail salons where you feel like a number. They fussed over colors for my skin tone and my girl was extra cautious and gentle throughout the whole experience. In addition, it was amazingly affordable at just $15 for the gel manicure!!!! The only thing is you have to have plenty of time. I was there over 2 hours which stressed me out as I wasn't expecting it to take that long, but really for the price, it's a terrific deal. My nails are trimmed beautifully, the color is rich and hard, haven't had a single chip yet, and the hand massage was at least 20 minutes, very relaxing. I would highly recommend going here for a great deal and to have a service from a very professional, detailed manicurist. I'll definitely be back! read more

I dye my naturally dark blonde hair platinum and I went to Madame Vuu's for a root touch-up. I was very happy with the quality of the work done (it was the most beautiful and delicately done bleach I've ever had, they didn't even need to use toner) and the attitude of everyone there. Unfortunately I had to wait over an hour to get into a chair, and then the process, which at every other salon I've ever been to took only one hour from start to finish, took over three. I took Microblading class on July 14,15 at Vuubeautyschool . The class size is small and I feel so lucky I don't need to share models with anyone and I got Nini and Mrs Kim instruct individuals and took care home work before I get into the class. I am so worried to do eye brows tattoo for the model but she made me so confident stand next to me so I pass that level . I had learn couples style and shading . Finally I feel this is a good place for me to learn and I had finished 6 models during the time I am learning . I had tip even it is free models. I was helping a friend moving to U district, then I figure I need a haircut. Saw this place and decided to come in. The place has two section of manicare and haircut. It was not a long wait even though the place was busy. One of the student gave me the haircut, she was very sweet and asked me at first how I want my hair to be done. After explaining to her, she did the job very carefully. The instructor walked around and checked on the students and will jump in if she need to. I ended up with a very nice haircut, the instructor did a little fix on my hair and it looked even better. The hair shampooing was like a massage, very relaxing. The crew are very nice and friendly. I am new to Seattle. I have had my Haircut there twice, and both times they did an AWESOME job! And you can't get much better than $9 for a haircut and shampoo! This is a MUST VISIT place to get your Hair done. The students are great, The teacher's are some of the best hair stylists I've ever had touch my hair, (and in Southern California I've had some of the best, most expensive haircuts Ever, and these guys easily rival them!) Also Kim, the owner, is SO nice and friendly. She helped me find a place to live, another teacher helped me find a job, these people rock, and to top it all off, you end up with a killer haircut. I was in Seattle for a wedding and was desperate for a manicure before my friend's big day. After a massage nearby, yelp led me to Vuu's Beauty School. Since I had a few hours to kill before the rehearsal dinner, I thought why not. The young lady who did my nails was careful and meticulous. It took longer than an usual manicure but it lasted two weeks before chipping (including 2 flights, 2 weddings, and an inadvertent hike). Haircuts and foils are both an awesome deal for the price. Be patient, as all services are provided by senior students, and not all of them are fluent in English. It helps to know what you want stylewise, but they do know their stuff. I can't vouch for their spa services, as I am not in the habit of getting manicures, facials, etc, but Kim does a great job training her students before they start working on customers. I have been going here for the last two years, and have tried other places, but continue to return. read more
