Absolutely STELLAR, classic Chinese takeout joint. It's exactly what you want when you want some Chinese takeout--well-priced, delicious food and speedy and kind service. I tend to swing by around lunchtime and get a lunch special (usually sesame chicken) and some dumplings. I've never been disappointed by this place. It's a small location, but I've never had an issue getting a table around lunchtime. Wah-wah You've given me a wah-wah (George Harrison -Wah-wah) The Wa Wah Kitchen is a pretty good representation of all the small predominantly take-out Chinese Restaurant you've seen all of your life. Ceramic tile floor, double plastic booths, big photo board of dishes across the front of the store. Definitely No Frills. The menu is very large, like you usually see in these sort of places, with appetizers, soups, fried rice, chow meins, chop sueys, egg foo youngs, curries, lo meins, broccoli and meats, seafoods, chickens, pork beefs... well you get the idea. I just scanned through the menu for any unusual dishes, so maybe Roast Pork Yat Gaw Mein Soup, Roast Pork With Oyster Sauce, Lemon or Pineapple Chicken, Subgum Wonton are what you may not find at your local take-out place. I dined in and ordered a small curry shrimp ($6.25). The small was far from small- a good sized plate of 5 or 6 shrimp with onions, green peppers, carrots, pea pods, water chestnuts, and celery in a very yummy curry sauce with rice. No complaints on the taste at all. If I could have changed the dish, I would have made the green pepper slabs much smaller and have had less of them. To me, green pepper, carrots and celery are boring, and I'd rather have seen some broccoli or bok choy in the mix. Service was very good. After I ordered, I took a seat, and the food came out on a tray in ten minutes or so. And when I left, a smiling young guy asked me how the meal was. So this place was a hole in the wall but the food was EXCELLENT. Sadly the portions have gotten so much smaller- the fried dumplings were tiny- but really good. All the food items were super tasty. Will come again- but even McDonalds portions got smaller. Hope they increase portion sizes!!!!! read more

It's some weird, paper white, gooey, gelatinous substance that if you touch it breaks apart. No meat in there. Totally gross. Never going back. Too bad because we enjoyed the food till now. We got takeout on our first visit and were satisfied in terms of both the price and overall quality. We started off with spring rolls which were fresh and grease free, but a little light on the filling. We shared an entree of shrimp mei fun - ample shrimp, but very little flavor requiring dashes of both fish and Sriracha sauces. Our 2nd entree was chicken with mixed vegetables that had a nice mix of both chicken and fresh vegetables, but also benefited by the addition of a little heat. Wow. What a disappointment. It's 11:30 and I'm as ravenous as ever. I was craving some sweet and sour chicken but none of the Chinese places near me were open. I opened up doordash in hopes of finding somewhere that was still open. Low and behold wah wah kitchen pops up. I ordered 2 large orders of sweet and sour chicken and waited the longest hour of my life for one of my go to meals at any Chinese place. I opened up the box and instantly knew I made a mistake. The chicken was absolutely ghastly. I also ordered a large and they gave me a small amount of chicken and enough rice to feed a small army. Safe to say this is the last time I'll be visiting this sorry excuse of an establishment. read more

A second chance for a Chinese kitchen in my hometown that once kinda ignored me. Might as well, right? At least I got to have some food this time. It was quite good and appropriately priced. $7.50 or less for a majority of dinner combos, which include an egg roll and a side of pork fried rice. Unlike many of their ilk, Wa Wah also offers brown rice, which I chose instead as a healthier option. Put some points on the board for that. It's your typical takeout fare. I'm very picky when it comes to Chinese food so much do that when my boyfriend says he wants some I usually opt out of ordering. However today we ordered not from where he usually orders from & tried Wa-Wa. He ordered the general tso's chicken, I ordered sesame chicken and my son had shrimp lo mein. We all LOVED our dishes. So delicious, the containers were filled almost over filled, they gave us extra egg rolls at no additional cost. Another thing I also liked they used brown rice which in my opinion tastes better than the yellow rice you get at most Chinese places. I was even more shocked that we paid less than we usually pay. New to the area. I did not know that this place went through multiple owners based on the reviews, I have been going to a place in Cromwell that is rated #1, don't know how. Wa Wah has the best shrimp lo mein with garlic that I have gotten since I was a kid in the 90's. Ask them to put garlic in the shrimp lo mein. It is so easy to make great lo mein and most restaurants in the area are going for a vinegar taste or they ruin the lo mein by putting way to many bamboo shoots in the plate. The general tso's is also very good. They go for a more robust taste rather than roll the fried chicken in a sugary sauce like most chinese restaurants in the area. I go here at least once a week. Would like to go more if it were a little closer. read more

This place has eroded in quality. It's not what/how it was back in the day. Just a warning to all that frequent them: be ready to have your order screwed up or missing. Once, is understandable. Twice, suspicious. Three times, damn fools think I'm a fool. When you call them to notify them of THEIR mistake, they have the intelligence to not say much, just that "if you come back, they will fix your order and make you happy." However, once you go back there, they start antagonizing you about how they can't understand my English. Mind you I'm fully American (born, raised, & educated). No matter how much you try to be civil and heartful, they will keep pushing your buttons with antagonizing rhetoric in order to bait you into accepting blame. Then they have the audacity to lecture you about how to place an order for "Lo Mein, with extra vegetables and gravy." They say if you say it like that we don't understand, so we assume you want Vegetable Fried Rice. OMG!!! Now the Chinese are teaching us how to speak English! Wow! Never ever going here again. I'm going to let everyone in Berlin know about this and the other experiences I have had with them, recently. read more

I didn't realize how good this place is until we moved away from Berlin and tried to find something to replace our beloved Wa Wah take out!!!! Husband says nobody beats their sweet and sour chicken dinner. Everything is just consistently really good, even after they changed owners... fried rice, egg rolls, dumplings, rangoons, house lo mein... i've always found the general tso's is crispy, not soggy. The food is surprisingly good here. I say that because many store front Chinese places are, well, spotty. I've gotten take out many times here now, and it has been accurate, and very good.
