I am a very big fan of Ming Garden Restaurant. They are by far the best Chinese restaurant on or near Route 3 I have tried the others and have had bad experiences. Every one of my Ming Garden experiences has been very good to awesome. When you walk in, the restaurant is very clean and organized. The ladies who take your order are polite and accommodating. Take out night. First time customer and We were very impressed by the quality of food. Servings seemed kind of small for a large size but it tasted pretty good. Not so sweet like other places. My husband loved the spare ribs they were quite big and tender.the restaurant was quiet but the phones would not stop ringing. We liked it and would like to try other dishes. read more

I ordered a ton of food from here today for Easter diner with the fam and everything was amazing! We have had Pu Pus platters. Each Pu Pu for 2 included 2 egg rolls, 2 chicken wings, 2 chicken teriyaki, 2 beef teriyaki, 2 fantail shrimp, and 5 chicken fingers. We also ordered their house fried rice, chicken Mei fun, and crab ragoons. All 9 of us loved everything. The only small complaint I heard was that the crab ragoon was a little too sweet. Other than that, everyone said it was their new favorite place. We also love that they make their own duck sauce and aren't stingy about it. It is so much better than the packets. We ordered the Dinner box for 2 (Shumai, General Tso's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice), wonton soup, the chefs special lo mein (pork, chicken, shrimp) and egg rolls. I'm not sure what was supposed to be in the Shumai, but it was just a fried wonton with rice. The chefs special lo mein was very flavorful, the wonton soup was okay and the egg rolls lacked pork; mostly cabbage. There wasn't anything overly greasy, which is a plus in my book. First time walking into this fine establishment this place is CLEAN and tidy . Menu was very good and the people working there were very knowledgeable and friendly. I tried Ming Garden because it has one of the better Yelp ratings for Chinese food in the area. They have seating, but the atmosphere is not a selling point. They had a bunch of boxes stacked up in the dining area. More of a takeout place. I ordered a lunch special that had thin strips of pork and string beans and a mlld savory sauce, pork fried rice and an egg roll. My order was ready on time. Overall, the food was just OK. The string beans were overcooked and a bit mushy. The pork was just Ok. The strips were too thin to really enjoy. The egg roll did not have the presence of oil that you would expect from a freshly cooked egg roll. It was dry and the fillings didn't pop for me. The pork fried rice was a bit above average for a Chinese takeout spot. Ming Garden may be worth trying in light of its Yelp rating, but it's not a place that will be in my area takeout rotation. 3 Stars read more

Apparently this is a new Chinese restaurant that's opened in the Cromwell area. I stopped in and ordered a honey wing combination with vegetable fried rice. I grew up in New York and ate honey wings all the time so I was surprised to find it's not as common in CT. Overall, the food was tasty and really fresh. I am excited to try more things on the menu. I thought I ordered a combination but this did not come with an egg roll which was unusual. read more

Dinner was excellent. We are on a sports trip & stopped here. We asked if we could eat in vs to go, the woman told us either was fine, but that they serve everything in to go containers. Totally fine with us, we just planned to back to our hotel and eat in the lobby. Very short wait. She brought out plates and forks for us, super nice, she did not need to do that! She brought out what was ready first and the kids started in. Everything was excellent, piping hot just cooked. She brought over free waters, they asked if we needed any extra sauces. Excellent service. If we lived closer, we would definitely be regulars here. Six people, we ordered three dinner specials and a few sides and we have leftovers. Middle-aged Chinese-American here. It's not about the ambiance, folks. It's about the food. I've eaten Chinese food on six continents. If you want to propose to your significant other, do it elsewhere (but order your food from here later on). If you want solid Chinese food that's fresh and done well, you won't go wrong with Ming Garden. Try the house special spring rolls, Curry Mei Fun (rice noodles) to start. Why is the food good? Because they do a ton of take-out, so all the food is freshly ordered and prepared. No week-old ingredients here. Pro tip, ask for recommendations from the chef, like with Japanese restaurant omakase ( I'll leave it up to you). I'm from NYC and came to CT for the weekend. I ended up coming here three times. We have been waiting for the owners of Ming Dynasty to reopen. We are so happy to have found them. Hands down, the best Chinese food in the area. Try the Aromatic Shrimp, it's awesome. The General Tso chicken can't be beat, have tried from other restaurants and what makes the difference is that it is mostly chicken with some breading.
