This restaurant has decent Chinese food for cromwell area. I order the house lo mein , wonton soup and a dinner box that had chicken , egg-roll and rice in it. Staff was friendly. Service was fast too.

Pork and String Beans from Lunch Special

I tried Ming Garden because it has one of the better Yelp ratings for Chinese food in the area. They have seating, but the atmosphere is not a selling point. They had a bunch of boxes stacked up in the dining area. More of a takeout place. I ordered a lunch special that had thin strips of pork and string beans and a mlld savory sauce, pork fried rice and an egg roll. My order was ready on time. Overall, the food was just OK. The string beans were overcooked and a bit mushy. The pork was just Ok. The strips were too thin to really enjoy. The egg roll did not have the presence of oil that you would expect from a freshly cooked egg roll. It was dry and the fillings didn't pop for me. The pork fried rice was a bit above average for a Chinese takeout spot. Ming Garden may be worth trying in light of its Yelp rating, but it's not a place that will be in my area takeout rotation. 3 Stars

Honey Wings & Vegetable Fried Rice
    Caryn M.

Apparently this is a new Chinese restaurant that's opened in the Cromwell area. I stopped in and ordered a honey wing combination with vegetable fried rice. I grew up in New York and ate honey wings all the time so I was surprised to find it's not as common in CT. Overall, the food was tasty and really fresh. I am excited to try more things on the menu. I thought I ordered a combination but this did not come with an egg roll which was unusual.

Dinner was excellent. We are on a sports trip & stopped here. We asked if we could eat in vs to go, the woman told us either was fine, but that they serve everything in to go containers. Totally fine with us, we just planned to back to our hotel and eat in the lobby. Very short wait. She brought out plates and forks for us, super nice, she did not need to do that! She brought out what was ready first and the kids started in. Everything was excellent, piping hot just cooked. She brought over free waters, they asked if we needed any extra sauces. Excellent service. If we lived closer, we would definitely be regulars here. Six people, we ordered three dinner specials and a few sides and we have leftovers. Oh and an adorable little reusable bag. Really great experience.

It always looked like a good time with picnic tables right by the river ferry though, so we finally made a quick stop for lunch at the end of a bike ride. We just wanted something small as we had plans to cook that evening so we grabbed a couple simple hot dogs that came with fries. The hot dogs had that tasty flat top flavor and were on well toasted, buttery rolls. The fries were crispy and plentiful. Service was friendly and the view is great. Since I only had hot dogs I feel like a can't give a full review, but the dogs and overall experience were good enough that we'll definitely (finally) visit more often to give some other things a try.

I ordered two hot lobster rolls for me and my husband--$35 each and came with fries. Our son had the chicken tenders and fries. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder, but was disappointed to see them warming it up in the microwave. That kind of took away from the "fresh seafood" experience I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the lobster roll was way too salty, and I even found a hair in mine. I was going to say something, but my husband said to just leave it alone and decided we wouldn't be back. The coleslaw was full of black pepper and really unpleasant. One bright spot was their sweet little daughter who was helping clean up--she came over and kindly asked if we had any trash for her to throw out. My husband gave her a little tip--such a cutie and a hard worker. Overall, it's a nice location and has a lot of potential, but the food didn't meet expectations at all.

They had a smoky flavor cuz they must have cooked them on the grill and they were addictive. You just wanted to gobble them up. Both the boils we tried were really good. Seafood was fresh. Snow crab was nice and sweet. Just a little hard to get out of the shell. Wish we had one of those pic like instruments. It would have made it easier than just the cracker. The mussels were really good and the shrimp were great with the sauce We both went with a Soho special which is their signature sauce and we did two scoops for the heat level. It was perfect. Just a little bit of heat. Not too spicy. I liked being able to try all the seafood in the feast boil, but I think my favorites were the snow crab, clams, mussels, and the shrimp so I might just go with those next time. While it can be a little pricey at times, you get exactly what you pay for--freshness that most "fast" options can't touch. The real advantage here is the ability to kill two birds with one stone. I can grab a high-caliber prepared meal for lunch and pick up my raw seafood in the same trip. While I know spots like Apple Tree and A Dong Supermarket are good, they just don't carry the variety of seafood that I actually eat. City Fish Market fills that gap perfectly with a selection that meets my specific standards. Pro Tip: Call ahead for your order. The lunchtime line can get crazy, and you don't want to be caught waiting when you're just looking to get in and out.
