Once in a while, you find a family restaurant that combines exceptional service, consistently delicious food, a clean environment, friendly and respectable staff. This restaurant has been a part of this community for a number of years, and they possessed all of the factors that would turn you into a regular customer. It WAS the place to go to get affordable quality food quickly and excellent service. I was there a few weeks ago, deciding that a few mishaps with service and lacking waiting staff could be forgiving. After all, the place has been there a really long time. My boyfriend and I were immediately seated. I thought that was a great start. Then we ordered our drinks.....then the waiting began. We had to ask when we would expect them. By then we were ready to order and did. My waffle was overcooked to the point of it being black on the bottom, and my boyfriend's biscuits and gravy could be comparable to hockey pucks. What's more, the gravy was cold. We were going go send it back...we watched our waitress hang out behind the desk with other coworkers laughing a joking, and even flirting with the men in the booth behind is. Pretty much everything but her job. The only thing that was done diligently was the check delivered within five minutes of getting our food. That's tacky and just disrespectful, especially when she passed on the checks to another girl who was washing dishes in the back. I was furious, and still hungry. By the time we left, we tactfully expressed how horrible their service had been. I refuse to leave a tip when expected to endure that! Our waitress apologized and of all things blamed it on the new girl that have us our check. Unbelievable. I'm halfway tempted to call Restaurant Impossible because they seriously need to clean up their act. More and more people are refusing to return, myself included. I did find out that there was a change in management, things went downhill from there evidently. We have been going here for over 5 years. With that being said in the past year it has gone downhill or maybe my standards have gone up. There has always been a wait there on Sundays or Saturdays, but the last 3 times we have gone we put or name on a list and have sat for over 20 min. With each time had a crappy experience. That would be fine if people after us weren't being seated, like PP said there are only booths available so it had nothing to do with our family of 4. Last time when I went and asked how much longer or wait would be the hostess(who is new haven't seen her b4) goes ohh sorry I marked you off I thought she seated you. You will be the next to go be seated. Ok then no problem right....until 4 other partys were seated again!!! GGRGRGGRGRGGR With that being said when were finally seated took another 15 min for them to come take our drink order. No big deal for a couple but with a family of 4 with 2 toddlers the wait can be painful. When I asked if we could order are food 2 the waitress(again new) said umm yeah but let me come back and I will take that....moves on to another order and still hadn't asked what we wanted for drinks. So we waited again for another 5 before she came back. Took our drink order and food order, she came right back with the drinks. Then right after that the bill.....umm hello did I misss something the food isn't here yet. Waited about the same time for our food so no change there. Food was same as always, greasy but good. Overall though I think we were there almost 2 hours and it wasn't pleasant So with the past 3 time being bad and the last the worst I won't be going back there again. This is my regular go-to breakfast place. They open super early, it's not unusual to find me there at 5:30 am, and the food comes quick, in big portions and is reasonably priced. If you're a "foodie" expecting the Yelper trifecta of ambiance, cheap and fabulous food you're going to want to go to one of the other fabulously hip joints in Manteca. If you want good, solid American food at a reasonable price and dint care if you take a time warp back to the 1970's then this is a good choice. They keep your coffee full, in fact, some ask and some don't so if you're not careful you might end up drinking 6 cups of coffee during breakfast! It's interesting to me that Chubby's diner, which is in the same parking lot, has higher average reviews. Whenever I'm here, which is often, there are always people in the Waffle Shop but hardly anyone in Chubby's. go figure. read more

Very disorganized! Took my wife here for the first time. The hostess asked us for our names and how many in our party (2). About a minute later a group 5 walked in another party of 2. All on the list after us, a waitress then walks up to the big party, confirms the number the party and starts to sit them (no name tag, wearing white glasses). Then another comes up and asks the hostess "who's next?" She points at us and the girl starts to take the other party. Meanwhile, another group walked right in, and just sat down. Haven't been to this restaurant in 5 years. Decided to take the family today to have some breakfast. I ordered the blueberry waffle, my little one a chocolate chip waffle, my 5 years old eggs and French toast and my husband the ham and eggs. My husband only ate the ham due to the scrambled eggs being under cooked and extremely runny to where you can see the wet egg puddle and his biscuits and gravy were cold and his hash browns were soggy. When he notified the waitress she replied "why didn't you tell me before so I could've brought you out another plate?" She said she was only going to charge him for the ham. I've been here four times for Sunday morning breakfast with my husband after church. We love their food and service!! Only one we just left because it was so packed. Other than that one time we've only waited at most five minutes. So far we've just ordered the waffle combo= 2 eggs, 4 sausage or bacon and a big waffle. Bacon is nice and cripsy not too thin like IHOP. The sausage is thick and flavorful. $6.95 We have also ordered their "special" a new york steak and eggs with hash browns or country potatoes, and toast or gravy and biscuits. Steak was very flavorful and a generous size. Big side of two biscuts smothered with gravy! Hash brown is cripsy on the outside and very potato like inside. $8.95! There are a lot of older grandparent like couples that go there reading the newspaper, as well as, families of 4. It was an old fashion 70'sish decoration but it doesn't bother me at all. Love the food and prices. Breakfast prices are at most 9 dollars with very generous portions. Waitresses are very nice and friendly. Not my favorite place to eat, the service is good when it is slow, but over all the food is meh. Now see I used to live out in the country where alot of the breakfast places look basically like this, terrible. The cheap wallpaper on the walls and odd red color lining the place makes you think that you are in the country, and in the 70's. The funnest part of this place for me is quoting the dinner scene from Pulp Fiction. On to the food. the portions are so huge you will be hating yourself by the time you are half way through. The chicken fried steak is literally the size of the plate. I often made the joke of ordering "the chicken fried place mate" just to clarify, I am not saying the food is bad, for what you pay and what you get and the portion size you are definitely getting more than you pay for. I had the chicken fried (place mat) steak and she had the linguicia (mountain) skillet. After we ate we had enough left overs for another meal altogether. The Eggs Benedict is my favorite however I think they changed it recently and it's not quite as good as it used to be- missing some spices and the thick ham (now 3 thin slices). For breakfast this is a pretty good choice in Manteca. The waffles are pretty good! I've had the waffle combo and an omelette. It's a pretty big place with a lot of seating. They have quite a few different varieties of waffles along with other normal breakfast fare at an inexpensive price. I've been a couple of times and haven't had problems with the service. I went solo and with a group of about 10 and both times they were quick with the orders. I enjoy a tasty waffle and the waffles they have a variety of toppings. The service was amazing. We were seated immediately and had three girls ask us about our drink order within the first couple minutes. Our food order was brought to us within five minutes of our order being taken. They seemed like they had two girls doing nothing but walk around filling up coffee cups. And it was good coffee. Hmm..How to start this review... They are open for walk in dinning was little excited for some normalcy. There was no one by the door to check us in. I think he was the owner that took us to a table and asked what we'd like to drink then yelled at a waitress to come take our drink order. The waitress takes our drink orders and then brings my bf a water instead of the coke he ordered she quickly brought him a coke. Then a different waitress comes over to take our order. Meanwhile this guy i think is the owner is just yelling to waitress to get silverware to tables and yelling drink orders for her to get. When the food comes out i was missing my biscuits and gravy she said its almost done. My biscuit and gravy arrives after I've finished my sides and its hard and cold. However, Waffle Shop is our "go-to" breakfast place for the following reasons: Great, friendly, fast service. The servers here always have a smile on, and are working hard... they're usually busy but they do their best! The coffee is always great and my cup is always kept full, plus the portions here are like something you get at Grandmas house - hearty and overloaded! I do not like the hollandiase sauce here, so my usual dish is not an option. However they make a great simple breakfast of hash browns and over-easy eggs for me every time. I was prepared to go five until I took a closer look at the exterior surroundings. My tablemate and I are both in a restaurant business thus I know from whence I speak. The food deserves five star as does the service, owner/manager included. We walked in at 1:52 p.m. [closes at 2 p.m.] I said one more deuce before you close. The manager (owner?) said they will be here at least an hour after close with side work. My guest had Taco salad he could not finish he was well pleased with presentation and it proved to be too much food for him. I ordered the Mushroom/Jack Burger inquired temp as I eat my red meats usually trending rare. I was informed only MW to W, got exactly that. While I prefer Medium or less cooking I was satisfied this burger was juicy and delicious from first to last bite, there were way more steak fries than I should be eating in one sitting and a nice pickle spear. Family and I stopped for breakfast. The food was served timely and the portions we large, unfortunately the quality was poor. The place has a dirty feel to it - not sure why , but it seems Like it's not clean - you know you enter a restaurant and for some reason you get the feeling that it needs a good cleaning. The waitress was please and the food came out hot , I think they my need to keep an eye out so the menus can be wiped down, they were a bit sticky. Service is extremely fast here. We got our order in a matter of minutes! The portion sizes here are HUGE! I asked the server if they have a kids menu for my 2 yr old. She pointed me to the section that says, "Smaller side." Definitely was not a smaller side. My son received two huge pancakes and eggs. I would've even be able to finish that. Next time, I'll just order something for us to share. The food all comes out on different plates. Barely had enough room on our table. My MIL even dropped her plate on her lap because it slipped off the full table. The food was okay for me. I ordered the Joe's omelette. That was huge too. The brewed coffee was good. I also tried the iced coffee. That was okay too. For us going during breakfast time, there was never a wait and we didn't have to wait on anything. That was the quickest breakfast ever.
