Reverse tape two months, it was during my drive south to the Sarasota area of Florida, my current living situation. I do not recall the signage upon the highways blue boards that tell of gas, food and lodging, those signs have changed over the years and seemingly mainly advertise only the big burger guys. I reckon it was just past 3:00am when I exited the interstate and after a quick loop de loop I got all excited to see the yellow and black sign of Waffle House. It's become a comforting place for me as redneck as that may sound - South Carolina kicked off that trend by way of late nights with a newly met hussie, breakfast with my son, or just me and my thoughts and newspapers. Maximum Overdrive rigs all around, some snooze some sleep some sort out their trip- I took a seat at a table in the rear. Coffee always is served quickly and my order never never really changes "All Star, pecan waffle, Sunnyside up with bacon, grits and extra butter". But the eggs came out rubbery and bouncy scrambled, I had thoughts of silky textures. As I played with it with my fork questioning my ability to resurrect them, I caught a movement outside and entering quickly through the double doors.A heavy coated screaming man entered. He was certainly unstable, ranting and raving and seemed quite insane. He wasn't the type to be packing a heater as I assessed him up and down while not looking up with my I Can Spot Danger NYC lense. I've dealt with many people in far worse areas than this wiry fellow, so I nonchalantly slipped my hand in my front right pocket and fitted into my brass knuckles while eating and reading and listening, but nothing really came if it and in minutes the police arrived on scene. It's true that my order was incorrect, it's true the early mornings live entertainment was less than Carnegie Hall material, but the politeness of the staff is much appreciated when your a stranger in a strange land, hungry and have been cranking out the miles by the hundreds. read more

Stopped here around 10:30 am on our way back from our granddaughter's gymnastics meet in Goldsboro. It was pretty full but we found one booth available. I ordered a Senior plate with (1) egg and bacon (extra crispy) and an unsweetened tea. It comes with grits or hashbrowns and toast automatically. The hubs ordered a waffle (lightly cooked), grits, sausage and a soda. Overall the food was good but my husband's sausage had an odd taste (according to him) and I put their whipped butter in my grits which ended up making my grits have an odd taste. For me the tea was very strong so much so that I asked for a half glass of water so I could mix it with the tea. Again none of this is a deal breaker but generally when we go to Waffle House the food is good diner food with no issues so we were a little surprised. Our servers name was Melissa and she was top notch. She asked us several times if we needed anything and was very accommodating when I asked for water. She was very professional and offered great customer service. The bathroom (womens) was really clean. Anyone that goes to Waffle House knows its a casual restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Busy Saturday morning and this Waffle House location was well organized and filled with smiling staff. Our food was tasty and it almost all came out at the same time. The bacon was about 1 minute afterwards, but we have been to some Waffle Houses where each item came out separately which makes eating bacon, eggs and toast together impossible. So my review is based not only on the staff who seemed to actually enjoy their jobs and the well prepared food, but also comparison with other Waffle Houses where I have recently dined. read more

#12/2022 The waffle House truck stop Road by Kenly North Carolina off interstate 95. Pretty much like most all other waffle houses so there's no need for a long long review here but I will say this is one of the older ones that has not been remodeled. The dining area is fairly small some of the tables were cordoned off for social distancing again. Breakfast crowds are very slammed people come walking from the truck stop that don't want iron Skillet across the way and the motels behind. I came in I was greeted I sat down ordered some coffee looked at the menu got one of my usuals waffle with sausage patties and double hash browns in the ring. Waitress brought my coffee I looked around I noticed this is a little dirty or store the floors don't look like they were swept as good as some other waffle houses and the tables weren't quite fully wiped down behind the condiments. Here's why it's still getting four stars the quality of the food was fantastic at this one they've got Great Cooks. My hash browns were perfect my sausage was done just like I wanted a little bit of brown to them and the waffle was excellent. a little extra spoon of batter into the waffle maker because I noticed mine was very fluffy usually they're kind of flat but it was very tasty put on the sugar-free syrup and it was great. So therefore a decent waffle House quality the food very good I've been the worst but I am giving the benefit of the extra star. read more

I kind of didn't want to give four stars but couldn't help it. The staff made my experience what it was, so I had to give that rating. I mean, you know what it is. It's a breakfast place. A greasy little grill. It's small, it's busy, and this one was a little bit dirty. Not dirty with filth, Just it's - really - busy - and - we - haven't - mopped- in - two - hours kind of dirty. What can I say it's Waffle House. The food is good, the atmosphere is similiar to any other Waffle House, this one gets a lot of trucks too traffic. The service is amazing and it's definitely my favorite place to stop on my way home from work at night. If you see the staff outside smoking cigarettes when you pull up it going to be the best meal you've eaten at Waffle House. read more

Wonderful service, very familial environment, the workers are kind and inviting. They took a couple minutes to seat us but it's because they were busy and the restaurant was mostly full, but when they seated us we were quickly serviced and the meal was great. Def recommend for breakfast on your road trip. read more

I live in Kenly and have visited this Waffle House many times. The food and staff are typically what is expected...good. Occasionally, take-out orders aren't always up to par for minor reasons such as forgetting butter & syrup for waffles or not including a drink that's been factored into the price when phoned in. Just need to keep up on the attention to details. read more

I love Waffle House. I am a true redneck and have eaten at the awful Waffle hundreds of times. This one though leaves a lot to be desired. Flies everywhere, trash on the floor. My wife ordered coffee that came out cold. I took the cup back asking for another and was told three minutes to brew a new pot. No problem. 30 minutes later I had to ask for my wife's coffee. At least it was hot this time. Staff seems friendly but anti-social. Not that we wanted to chat, but that we were almost a nuisance being here. Next time, drive a little further down the road and eat at the one in Selma. read more

I stopped in here around midnight on a trip down South. It wasn't at all crowded in the restaurant, but I got stuck waiting around for an inexcusably long time just to get service (a small to-go order). I went there to order eggs and toast for myself and a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream for my wife, but I was told they did not make Belgian waffles. I gave the person behind the counter a strange look and asked them why an establishment with a name like WAFFLE HOUSE doesn't offer Belgian waffles on their menu. I was told that they sold regular waffles, and I was given a menu to peruse. The cook came out and said the only waffles they make with fruit was some berries in the batter itself and would be poured onto the iron, cooked right into a regular type of waffle. I politely declined, and explained that a Belgian waffle has a higher raised look to it, but is still crispy on the outside but soft when you cut into it, and it can be served with butter, syrup, or with fruit and whipped cream, or with something like Nutella. He said they don't do anything like that there... I was just surprised because those waffles are pretty popular in general. I ordered eggs and toast plus a burger plate to go, and the prices were reasonable... I didn't try their regular waffles, but I plan to sometime. I am not from the South, and it is pretty impossible to get waffles that aren't Belgian in restaurants in the northern states! I personally prefer regular classic buttermilk waffles a lot more than Belgian waffles, and I have no doubt they are tasty. I was just trying to get a Belgian for my wife (she liked those) when we stopped in Kenly to eat.... Hopefully I won't be kept waiting 45 minutes if I ever go into another empty looking Waffle House. read more
