I love that they are 24/7, I love that the food is like home cooking, I love that it's greasy, sloppiness is part of the charm. I drive very late at night on occasion, to avoid the night yelling of my wife of course. This one particular cold and not so stormy night, I find myself in the pits of despair. Head pounding, heart beating, I dig my fingernails into my velvet steering wheel cover (which is the height of luxury in my country). As my symptoms stack up by the minute, I notice a new opposition! A dreaded shooting pain in my side! Yeeeouch. As the all-consuming hunger begins to chase me, my need for consumption rises. Then I see it, approaching in the distance. The yellow beacon of hope, like a city on a hill, a glowing sign that brings promises of the new world, a house made of waffles! I park my '97 Corolla out front and walk up to the establishment. Just as I reach for the handle, a masked man jumps from the bushes to ambush me! Oh the excitement, I love a good challenge. I fight off the assailant in the nick of time and enter the palace. This place has jukebox style music, very classy. I am told by lady waitress who is also chef and manager to "sit wherever." Oh am I a sucker for a sense of control. I choose to sit in the high top bar counter. I order and watch in awestruck amazement as drunken multipurpose worker lady cracks eggs with one hand and smokes cigarette with other. Just like father! Wow! It is at this moment that I remember that I failed to mention I eat enough to feed small village, very important in the coming events (picture below.) Plate after plate, I shovel the grease and gristle into my mouth hole, loving every minute of it. In a raspy southern charm voice of another patron, I hear "slow down bud" which invigorates me to eat even faster. After all this food, I expect hefty bill that make my wife yell real loud, but instead I am greeted by bill that just says $22.57! What a deal and what a journey. For a fast food diner that just opened, they did a fantastic job with the influx of people lining up to go in! The staff was very friendly and despite the wait, they got the tables turned over quickly. My party and I ordered the pecan waffle, regular waffle, hashbrowns, an egg cheese bacon sandwich, sausages, and scrambled eggs. Food came right out and everything tasted good. The waffles were fluffy and I particularly liked the way they cooked my scrambled eggs. The eggs weren't salted which I enjoyed because then I could control how much salt I want in it. The sausages weren't as juicy as I would've liked them to be but they weren't bad. The menu is small and pretty simple. Overall I enjoyed our meal. Our bill for 3 hungry people who just biked all the way there was only $30! Waffle House. What do I even say to capture my one night in that quaint little shack. You can't classify this location with the regular restaurants. I'd classify this place as the middle ground between "the place you go after a high school performance of legally blonde with 24 raging and tired teens who all pay in cash and erupt in song after they eat" and "the 3 AM trip you make when you've hit absolute rock bottom and need something cheap yet solidly understanding of your depression induced impulse trip". Both are equally important as they come from extreme joy and extreme melancholy (remembering the good old days in high school when my friends and I would talk about how we did horribly on our chemistry test and what boy had our interest at the time). Waffle House is a solid anchor in the waves of shock and tragedy that fill my life. I always find myself here, whether at the end of a storm or the beginning of another tragically epic one. I'm hurting every day by what you've done to me. It only costs 50 cents to upgrade to a double hash brown and my meal was just short of 8 dollars! It may not be the cleanest but it sure is nice. Here I don't find a Waffle House as a food establishment- I find it as a waffle home. The employees are as strange and intriguing as my mom's weird neighbors that always stared a little too long when we got out of the car in my school days. My family and I decided to stop by and check out this location, and I must be honest, we decided to walk away, not sure what as more appalling if the smell of pot or the arguing between themselves, or the fact that we came in sat down, and we're not given any utensils but aside that the I must say the fact that we had to wait for them to come inside from there group smoking break, and food was clearly rushed, We have visited several locations and never had an experience so appalling an extremely unprofessional, I am not sure if this is the same way that they run the store in the morning hours but whoever is in charge of this store should take a closer look and make some extremely necessary changes to this group of employees doing the evening hours. my family and I will NOT be coming back , witch is sad I must say being that this location is the closest we have to home. This is the 4th time my family has tried this WH location. We were excited when they opened because they are so close to our home vs the Altamonte location; however we will NEVER visit this location again. They are slow, inconsistent & literally serve dried out, over cooked food with cold cheese on top & numerous other "add ins" they thought you wanted but didn't ask for. Not to mention I think they add. Ills up incorrectly. Just this afternoon they served us black hash browns & a black hamburger with a last minute slice of cold cheese on top. Back to Altamonte we go!! Don't waste your time waiting 25 minutes for a table here, just keep driving to another established WH location. read more
