Of course, I grew up in Kingston, so I know they don't usually like to follow trends. On the other hand, we always had "chip trucks," so maybe Kingston actually started the food truck trend. Oh, I'm so confused now.... so back to Farm Girl. I had an upcoming trip to Kingston to visit family, so I made sure to track down Farm Girl during the visit. My brother, his girlfriend, my daughter and myself all came by on a weekday around noon. There was a line, but not a huge wait. They are very efficient. I had the BBQ chicken tacos along with pasta salad. So good! Really, I could just live off of the pasta salad. It was awesome. I'm not entirely sure what the other adults had, but it all looked delicious. My little one enjoyed the fries, too! Friendly staff, the truck is easy to find, and (best of all) delicious, local, homemade food. Two thumbs up! The namesake brisket frankly left a little bit to be desired. It was moist and juicy, but for the all the nice thickness of the smoke ring, there was little distinct smoke flavor (I tasted hardwood, but none of the fruit or nut woods that typically impart flavor) and no real bark; the rub (basic salt and pepper, Texas-style) kind of just fell away from the meat. I'd guess that the brisket is prepared using the hot-and-fast method of smoking, or the meat is otherwise foiled (Texas crutch) to prevent the stall, the long process of evaporative cooling that forms the bark. To my palate, it was also under-salted. I've done better on a Weber Smokey Mountain at home, but there's something to be said about not having to babysit the smoker for fifteen hours. I didn't care for the cheese blend in the mac and cheese whatsoever and I threw most of it away. This is still probably one of the better brisket spots in the area if you're looking for a quick lunch, but I don't know that it's a destination.
