Once upon a time, I searched Twitter for #YGK - mostly out of curiosity to see if anyone actually…read moreused that hashtag. I stumbled upon Farm Girl's account, and was happy to see Kingston had a food truck. Down here in NOLA, along with most of the US, it's kind of a thing. Of course, I grew up in Kingston, so I know they don't usually like to follow trends. On the other hand, we always had "chip trucks," so maybe Kingston actually started the food truck trend. Oh, I'm so confused now.... so back to Farm Girl. I had an upcoming trip to Kingston to visit family, so I made sure to track down Farm Girl during the visit. My brother, his girlfriend, my daughter and myself all came by on a weekday around noon. There was a line, but not a huge wait. They are very efficient. I had the BBQ chicken tacos along with pasta salad. So good! Really, I could just live off of the pasta salad. It was awesome. I'm not entirely sure what the other adults had, but it all looked delicious. My little one enjoyed the fries, too! Friendly staff, the truck is easy to find, and (best of all) delicious, local, homemade food. Two thumbs up! Be sure to track down Farm Girl via Facebook or Twitter if you happen to be in/around Kingston. You won't regret it.

So, after a disappointing visit to the Mission Street truck - which had rave reviews - I decided to…read moretry Farm Girl to see if it would live up to the local ratings I had read. My sister and I had their daily special which was a roast beef sandwich with an au jus dip as well as a red quinoa salad. The sandwich and au jus were both quite good. Close to excellent! The quinoa salad was good also though the dressing was not quite as tasty as I had hoped.....but I am quite picky when paying $16 for a food truck lunch. Overall, worth the price because you could easily share this meal between 2 people. I also felt the food was truly fresh and tasty. The service added to the experience as the staff were friendly and efficient. The meal was ready in under 10 minutes and I was greeted when I walked up by the owner and a staff member. After many food truck experiences, including a couple of U.S. award winners, I would say this truck makes it into the top 3 I have tried. Congratulations to the owners who seem to have good vision and a desire to over achieve in their industry.

Briskets Pit Stop is a Watertown food truck that specializes in wood-fired BBQ, usually camped out…read morein front of the Mattress Express on Arsenal Street (they're very good about updating their Facebook page with where they're going to be on any given day, if you want to hunt them down). The namesake brisket frankly left a little bit to be desired. It was moist and juicy, but for the all the nice thickness of the smoke ring, there was little distinct smoke flavor (I tasted hardwood, but none of the fruit or nut woods that typically impart flavor) and no real bark; the rub (basic salt and pepper, Texas-style) kind of just fell away from the meat. I'd guess that the brisket is prepared using the hot-and-fast method of smoking, or the meat is otherwise foiled (Texas crutch) to prevent the stall, the long process of evaporative cooling that forms the bark. To my palate, it was also under-salted. I've done better on a Weber Smokey Mountain at home, but there's something to be said about not having to babysit the smoker for fifteen hours. I didn't care for the cheese blend in the mac and cheese whatsoever and I threw most of it away. This is still probably one of the better brisket spots in the area if you're looking for a quick lunch, but I don't know that it's a destination.

My husband and I made the biggest mistake of our lives by eating at the place. Their food is very…read moreoverpriced and definitely not worth the price you pay. First, the macaroni and cheese is very dry. Second mustard in coleslaw that was awful tasting. Third, I caught them picking up with their bare hands (no gloves) what they would like to call corn bread (which I did report to fort drum). The woman that work their are rude especially the young girl. She is not very friendly at all. One of the other woman that works there I think I heard the young girl call her Tracey or Stacey is very unprofessional looking her hair is colored blue or green or something along those lines, she has piercings which I know for a fact from working in the food industry for 10 years in the kitchen you are not allowed to wear while preparing food. If your going to have people representing your company then they should at least look and act professional. While my husband and I were waiting the girls are yelling out the front window to soldiers that are walking by (very unprofessional). The young girl was wiping down counters with dirty disgusting dish clothes. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. Very overpriced, food is mediocre at best, they touch your food with bare hands and they are wiping down counters with dish clothes that are filthy and have fallen on the ground. Let's put it this way I have a few friends that were going to order from them over the holidays for holiday parties and I recommended that they not order from there. One more thing I have a friend that lives in adirondack creek and she ordered from them for delivery and it took them forever and by the time she got the food it was cold. She had ordered from them before when they first started delivering and had an awesome experience, but apparently they have a new delivery driver who either one does not know their way around post, doesn't care or is just plain lazy or all of the above. Apparently the person who used to deliver for them (who actually knew his or her way around post and cared that the food was delivered swiftly and hot moved on. Please before you go and order from these people tell them you want to see them wash their hands and are wearing gloves when they serve your food. Better yet, do yourself a favor and save money and get a better quality of food by eating elsewhere. Good luck!!
