It's hard to review this business without talking about the personality of Stephanie, the owner - that's what makes it special. She's one of these rare people in Philadelphia who has so much idealism about the environment and furry creatures. She has two dogs herself, a French bulldog and this super adorable Pug that I want to sneak home with me. Her philosophy is very much connected to animal psychology, so she doesn't really think "Oh, time to walk the dog." Rather she spends time with the dogs and gives them whatever they need in the moment. She does some training although I don't know the specifics of that. She likes to give feedback to owners about what the dog is doing, kind of like a nanny would do with a child. I have learned a lot of things from her, but to be honest, she sometimes says things that are over my head. She has boarding opportunities although they need to be able to get on with her own dogs. She is ridiculously affordable and I know for a fact that she'll negotiate with people. At the very least, I suggest you call her and bring your dog over to meet her. I think that would be the best way to see if there's a fit. I almost can guarantee that your dog will love her. And you will too. read more

Stephanie and team handle our one year old Weimaraner, Zelda, with grace and finesse, even when she can be overwhelming in her energetic search for friendship and sticks. Stephanie and Doug are freakin awesome. When we initially called Steph. we were only in an emergency situation, and had never really used a dog-walker/sitter. But she was very professional, coming to our house for an initial consult, then giving extra attention to our high-energy border collies. Stephanie and her team at Wag the Dog have been an absolute pleasure to work with, and have done wonders for my super-energetic rescue pit pup. I've been using them for walking services for the past 6 weeks and have been really pleased. I am often able to get someone from their staff who can either run with him or do "destination walking" which has a magical way of tiring him out and leaving him unbelievably calm for the rest of the night. SO IMPRESSIVE. Steph has a great demeanor with dogs, and has experience with larger, dominant breeds, like mine. I had also used her services in the past to take my semi-agressive rottweiler on walks while I was out of town. My rotti, Kayla, was VERY skeptical about strangers and also dog-aggressive. I had never even used a dog walking service before but from the way Steph handled her from the very start, I was sure that she would be in good hands. When I got back from two days out of town, she was calm and happy, and I was very relieved. I checked in with Steph while I was gone and she was kind enough to give me regular updates. Steph and her staff and punctual, reliable and great to work with, I trust them with my dog and with access to my home. I appreciate the fact that they care sincerely about the wellbeing of my pup, and take time to discuss the issues that I've been having with him. Stephanie and Doug have been lifesavers for us and our "son." When we first moved to Philly in June we were so disappointed with the commercialized dog resort/overnight care. It was extremely overpriced and over an hour away from Center City. Luckily we stumbled across Stephanie's business card in a local coffee shop! Doug is no longer with Wag the Dog and the business is going in the crapper. I have worked with them for months without issue and now that Doug's gone, it was a nightmare. I've never had such a bad costumer experience anywhere. I hired this company to stay with my animals for 4 days. My understanding is that as a result of an intercompany miscommunication, my dog sitter was let go/quit, the company never bothered to tell me, and my dogs could've been neglected for 4 days. They left someone no longer workign there with my house key & alarm code-he could've cleaned me out!!Luckily the guy stepped up and took care of them despite no longer working there. read more

We are so glad that we chose Wag the Dog for our weekly mid day walks for my frenchie Hank. Stephanie was great at the meet and greet and I could tell she would be Hank's new bff. She sends me pictures after every walk and makes me feel comfortable that my dog is in good hands. We have used Wag the Dog since September 2017 for our bichon poodle, Omar. Neither of us had a puppy before and after my first day of work, I realized how anxious he was from being crated all day. We read a bunch of reviews and called a lot of services. Stephanie came over that night, met him, and bonded with him. We knew we found our walker. Between Stephanie, Jen, & Chip, Omar has been very loved. My favorite part of the service is the flexibility. Usually, I can schedule a week in advance, but sometimes I will need to add or cancel at the last minute. Before, I would text Stephanie, & she was always responsive. Now, their new website provided capabilities to do it there. It's been consistent. Omar is such a happy puppy, & I can tell the difference on days when he has a walk. My new favorite feature is that the new website e-mails you picture updates it. I love pics of Omar lovingly staring at Stephanie & Jen & performing his tricks. We are moving to Minnesota and SO sad we will not be able to continue using them. There is no way they can be replaced...definitely use them! Also, Omar has spent about 5-10 nights at Stephanie's house & is always very happy there. He is a lot of work & she accommodates him. Wag the Dog (Stephanie and Doug) are the best. I am so glad we found them! My husband and I recently moved to Philadelphia from Tampa and needed to find someone to watch our 10 year old lab, Molly. Since Molly was a puppy our neighbors in Tampa would watch her when we traveled. I was very nervous about leaving her with someone different. Stephanie has been absolutely fantastic in the 6+months we've been using her as a walker/pet sitter for our 2 pugs. She absolutely adores animals and I always know our pups are in good hands when they're with Stephanie. Got to know Stephanie because of all the amazing work she does in our neighborhood with gardening and recycling. We have two nutty dogs -a border collie mix, and an American Eskimo. They are a handful and then some. We don't need regular walking help, but she is an excellent pinch-hitter for us. We're able to give her a call or text on short notice, and she gets over to help us out. The boys just love her, and always happy to see their "Auntie Stephanie." If we ask, she'll make sure the kitties have plenty of water and food. She's really wonderful with our dogs, reinforcing stuff we're working on with them. I came across Wag the Dog from a Groupon, so was a bit skeptical at first, but couldn't be happier now. I thought it would be good to have another company as a backup, but they are now my primary go to. Stephanie and Nick both came to our house to meet our two dogs and they are great. I use Nick weekly now and he is wonderful! Our one dog was adopted at an older age and is a bit high maintenance because he isn't good with other dogs and has some guarding issues but Nick seems to handle him very well. He's great at getting right back to me and very accommodating. He even texts me updates when he gets to my house and after he walks them which is great because I'm a natural worrier. Thank you Nick!!
