Dog Walking DC is the only dog walking service I've used, and I am very pleased with it…read more COST: The cost for my dog is $15 per half an hour. I believe my walker sometimes lengthens the time of the walk in order to pick up another dog, which is a bonus! You pay the bill monthly, and the walker marks a chart in your home every day so you know she was there. SERVICE: My walker, Andrea, is friendly and reliable. My dog loves her, and she is very good with him. I was a little worried about entrusting a stranger with keys to my home, but upon meeting JJ (the owner) and Andrea, my fears were immediately allayed. One of the great benefits of this service is that JJ gives helpful advice on animal behavior. My dog is challenging to walk, and JJ advised switching to a different harness and using certain training techniques to help him increase his confidence. Our walker also uses these techniques, so he gets consistent training. The advice and the training was spot on, and my dog's behavior has noticeably improved. I am so grateful to have walkers who are interested in creating a happy and healthy life for my dog, not just dragging him once around the block. Having a reliable dog walker who really cares about my dog means the difference between going to work feeling guilty and worried about leaving my dog and going to work confident that my dog is well-cared for. That is incredibly valuable to me, and I recommend this service to any pet owner. NOTE: Dog Walking DC also does pet boarding, but I have never used that service.

By big-city standards, the price is certainly right too. Moreover, Dog Walking DC also boards dogs when you're travelling. On our last trip, we sent our dog to JJ's rather than the nearby kennel, and she came back freshly bathed and brushed, and incredibly happy-- it made us feel like we'd almost been neglectful dog-owners ourselves! Because JJ keeps the dogs at her house, there isn't always room for boarding if you don't ask ahead of time (and she has cats, which make some dogs manic), but we will definitely go to her with all of our boarding needs whenever we can.

I spent the better part of the last 2 years working for the lovely ladies at DogOn Fitness, and I…read morehave to say it truly is one of the best work experiences I've had. (I recently moved out of the area and was quite sad to leave them!) Both Jackie and Nancy were a dream to work for, largely because they are very effective at keeping their business functioning optimally, in every way. Every interaction I have with them is pleasant, smooth, and successful - whether it is to work on scheduling, or to handle a challenge with a dog. With their positive attitude every challenge was always easily resolved. DogOn Fitness is a company that consists of animal lovers. Every handler and trainer I've worked with there is very passionate about animals, and I've always seen that the animals are treated with the utmost care, respect, and concern. Sometimes we deal with a dog's difficult behavioral issues, and when the solution is not immediately apparent, we will have an ongoing discussion amongst every person responsible for that dog's care, where we share our stories and strategies and bounce ideas off of each other until we find something that works. For example, I worked with a large dog who would just decide to sit down and not cooperate during walks. Of course the dog would eventually have to make her way home, and us handlers have a schedule to keep, so this poses quite a problem. Ideally we did not want to use any force, like pulling on her leash to get her up. A few of us worked together and found a wonderful solution - playing with a tennis ball will get her going again! I was so relieved to have such caring support during a challenge. In such circumstances I fear that many people may not bother and would just do something like pulling on the leash until she gets up - instead of working to find a way that causes no distress to the dog. They have open and active communication that makes it very easy to successfully solve problems, so I really didn't see problems slip! And thus, my entire experience there was quite wonderful and all and all I can't speak highly enough of Nancy, Jackie, and all of DogOn Fitness!

A Nightmare You Don't Want to Subject Your Beloved Pet To…read more I've never been so furious in writing a review. If you love your cat, do not--DO NOT--bring them here. Our cat came back looking as though he'd been through a horror show, and we are livid. Bruises All Over from "Gentle Grooming" (we have pictures) Our cat was a long hair that we asked to have their fur taken down to that of a short hair cat. What was unforgivable were the purple, fingerprint-shaped bruises scattered across his body. When we first saw those marks, we were horrified and confused: bruises? How could regular grooming leave deep purple handprints on our pet? We immediately took him to the vet, who confirmed they were bruises--plain and simple. This was not a sleepy "heavier-handed" brushing; these were bruises from someone handling him roughly enough to leave real-live finger marks. Cuts, Cuts, and More Cuts If bruises weren't appalling enough, the groomer also managed to slice our cat multiple times with her clippers or scissors. These weren't tiny nicks; we could plainly see irritated, bleeding slashes in his skin where she obviously rushed or mishandled the tools. We've taken our cat to other groomers before--no one else in their right mind inflicts this kind of damage on a healthy, cooperative animal. Our Once-Happy Cat Was a Panicked, Hissing Mess Our normally sweet, affectionate cat came home terrified, his personality completely altered. He hissed at us--his own family--cowered in corners, and spent hours hiding under furniture, trembling. He refused to engage with any of his favorite toys or treats. He was in a full panic. Whatever "technique" this groomer used traumatized him beyond belief. Quite frankly, it felt like we picked up a stranger from the shop--an anxious, broken version of the cat we dropped off that morning. Pushing an Unreasonable Subscription Plan Instead of acknowledging their horrific performance, the groomer had the gall to pitch us a subscription plan--a monthly grooming plan--for an outrageous fee. They tried to convince us that our cat "needed" this routine maintenance. Are you kidding? After the physical and emotional trauma their so-called "service" inflicted, the last thing we want is to trust them near our cat again. This pushy upsell felt downright predatory: gouging a raw deal to "maintain" a pet they'd already harmed. Final Verdict: Avoid This Place at All Costs If you love your animal, do not, under any circumstances, take them here. I'm seething that we even gave them a chance. Every parent of a cat knows that trust and safety come first. This groomer not only violated that trust but injured our cat both physically and mentally. They clearly lack basic compassion, competence, or respect for the creatures they claim to care for. Save yourself--and your pet--from this horror. Take your cat to a groomer who actually cares about--and knows how to handle--animals safely. Our experience here was nothing short of negligence bordering on cruelty. We're deeply angry, heartbroken for our cat, and will never forgive the damage they inflicted.

Unfortunately, I have to update our previous review as I noticed it is still getting hits based on…read morea write-up which no longer reflects our experience. After roughly a year of bringing our dog here (since he was a puppy so he would develop a relationship), this business completely "ghosted" us as the kids say. We went to make our appointment in advance as usual and were told they'd get back to us with availability...no response. Reached out multiple additional times and were told they'd get back to us with availability...no response. Now late for grooming with a dog starting to matte, we reached out to owner who told us they'd call back...no response. Strangest thing. I would have been content with a(n early), "Hi, we're really sorry but [insert reason here: your dog is getting too big, your dog in a pain in the hindquarters, you don't tip well enough, your dog is too much work, we're simply too busy, etc] and we're not going to be able to schedule and tend to your pup the way we would like" but no such luck. Just leaving us hanging with a perpetual promise to get back to us regarding availability was terribly odd and unprofessional. Really a shame because we enjoyed supporting this small local business and were very fond of their team. Silver lining: After a bit of work, we've found good service elsewhere. I try not to drop bad reviews in anything but the worst circumstances, but this felt like it needed an update since I couldn't simply delete our initial 5-star experience. YELP: if you are able to delete both reviews, please feel free.
