I want to love L.B. Houston but it's the little things that keep adding up. It's less than 10…read moreminutes from my townhome so the location is perfect although the park driving in feels very downtrodden and a shooting range is nearby, which doesn't bother me too much but it isn't ideal. The tennis operation has been in disarray for a long time (although they have a newer head pro) so I have mostly played pickleball there. You can't beat the price for open plays (High beginner to Intermediate Thursday / Advanced Saturday morning): $5 through the Impact Activities app. But like anything with a cost that low, you have to put up with some things. The tennis and pickleball courts are mostly in very good shape but for pickleball, the court layout is problematic. Because the courts don't all run together side by side, too many bouncing balls gone awry and players walking like cattle across a highway when a court opens up make interruptions unbearable at times. The players on Saturday morning are very good and LB Houston is a sneaky good place at that time to find advanced players - but it doesn't feel like a community, it's not a very social scene, and feels very transactional and somewhat clique-ish. The front desk leaves a lot to be desired. They don't answer phones much, if at all, and have had issues processing payments. I feel like L.B. Houston could be great - but I'm not really sure because of the logistics and park structure that any leadership team can fix it.

Paul is a fantastic tennis racket stringer. He works by appointment and will arrange for you to…read moredrop and pickup the racket once done. I've never been to his storefront if there is one. Always take it to his residence. I use a hybrid string setup (RPM blast and natural gut) and when I have it done by someone good my strings rarely break but bad stringers I will always get a broken string. Paul's stringing hasn't broken on me until well after the lifespan of the strings has passed (like a year later which is way past when I should have had it restrung with new strings anyway since my setup loses effectiveness naturally after a month or so). Racket always plays great and he is very knowledgeable if you have any questions. So happy he is available to do this. Pricing is reasonable too. 5 stars!

Can't recommend Paul enough. I was organizing a youth tennis event in NE Texas called the Wolfe…read moreCity Tennis Challenge and I needed junior rackets donated. Paul had so many great ideas about our event and got me in touch with all the right people in the tennis world. And Paul and Hot Shot Uptown Tennis donated some of his own rackets to our event. Thanks Paul, your time and help enabled us to place 35 free rackets in the hands of kids. We were able to grow the game of tennis for future generations and we raised a lot of money for an injured youth in our hometown who is now back home and walking again and ready to play tennis with everyone in her hometown. Many thanks. Matt Webb - Wolfe City Tennis Challenge

Great place and my group's go-to pickleball location. Always clean and the employees are kind. One…read moreof the only places in the area we have found with indoor courts which is so worth it in the Texas heat. A nice little community center too!

I'm a resident of McKinney. I remember when the town was discussing building the indoor TENNIS…read morecourts now taken over by pickleball. Let's talk about the tennis pros: you can sign up for a drill or you can contact any pro at Courts of McKinney for a lesson but the bottom line is none of the pros will take a vested interested in you. None of the pros really care about you. None of the pros will attempt to establish a relationship with you. None of the pros will actively take an interest in whatever your goals are. So when I started 8 years ago here I was at best a 3.0, now I'm a 4.0. 99% of my training has been accomplished outside of McKinney. How many pros have you practiced with at COM you ask? 6 5/6 have left and work elsewhere in Dallas. How many have ever called or texted or taken an interest in my matches, tournaments or training schedule - ZERO. Not one follow up call or text. But the will promptly push the billing to get paid. If you want an 'à la carte' experience and have zero expectations, goals or don't want a real coach, then this is your place. And a few other points - the court garbages are always full. Apparently emptying the garbage each day is too difficult. The gates have large gaps so they either don't close or the exterior gates allow balls to pass through so you always need to bring extra balls. Many of the gates lack mid court access so god forbid you hit a ball over the fence because you can't get it without walking ALLLL the way around. If you want to use the all machine and are expecting balls that bounce, then forget it. The balls are older than Abraham Lincoln's balls. Indoor tennis? Well all you McKinney residents, you can forget about all that tax money you paidfor that because you get to listen to 20-30 pickle ball players screaming and swearing and whatever else they are doing to destroy the atmosphere. Let's not forget the windbreakers on the outdoor court fences. Don't worry your court will be covered with plastic zip ties because they don't care about maintenance. Hey but don't worry, the city mows the surrounding lawn and they take great care to spray all the grass cuttings onto the courts. This would normally be no big deal however no one actually cleans the courts. Make sure you reserve a court before grass cutting day. What day is grass cutting day? No one in the office can tell you! It's a big mystery. Oh snap I forgot to mention the bathrooms they built out by the 'new' courts. Make sure to work on your core strength to squat down to the stainless steel childsize potties but really more importantly is that you bring Lysol wipes to clean the toilets and probably should bring your own toilet paper and hand wipes as often there are none. Ask your doctor for a round of antibiotics after using this place! But if you prefer to walk allllll the way back to the other 'indoor' bathrooms you'll be met with dirty uncleaned stalls with lots of garbage and special odors to fill your nose. All my tax money is pretty much in the pocket of Matt. Oh yeah, he's the guy 'running' this place. Nice job McKinney.
