Amazing. This time I got the Vietnamese noodle soup and it was perfect for a cold evening. The broth is flavorful and the chicken is fresh. The spring rolls are also fresh, rolled in house. They were crispy and the sauce was great. The Thai fried rice is also great and a large portion. Also the kids chicken fingers are the best in town. Trust me just get them. Do not be sketched out by this place despite the exterior because it's a pleasant surprise They do a buffet from 11-3 on Saturday's and these dishes are GOOD and there's variety from papaya salads to curry to chicken wings to soup. Some of the stuff is a little bit spicier than I had anticipated (like the curry) but the papaya salad is good and refreshing. There were also some soups I didn't try that looks decent. Let's not forget about the dessert!! A little unsure why there's corn in it but the flavors and textures work together surprisingly well. The restaurant is a little bit muggy and chairs are a litttttle bit sticky but the cheap price for food variety is worth it in my opinion. Went around 4:30 on a Monday. Not busy at all, in fact no customers at all, which should have been the first warning. Woman at the front desk sees us, grabs two menus, doesn't say a word to us (she is having a personal conversation on her cell), walks us to a table and walks away. Complete silence, and we wait and wait for 10 mins, and still no one comes to the table. So, we walked out. The food may be great, but we will never know as this is a once and done. Wah Ha Ha is not my favorite thai restaurant in town, but it is not bad. I typically order pad thai (basic, I know), and my husband likes pad kee mao. The pad thai is ok, but it's pretty bland. I usually spice it up with some of the extra spices that they bring out to the table. Pricing is about $10.95 a plate for most dishes, and add $2 for shrimp. I don't have too much more to say about this place. There's never been a long wait, and there's typically one server for the whole room. It seems like a family run place with a small little dining area. If you're on 13th and looking for thai food, go for it! You won't be disappointed, you just might not LOVE it either. read more

So far, this is the best Pad See Ew I've had in Gainesville. It's consistent, they read the spice level instructions and it's always fresh.

I've had takeout from here 2 times now, and thank god I've finally found a decent place. I believed some of the hype from other Thai places in town to only be sorely disappointed. I love a good level of spice, and got the Pad Kee Mao (my standard dish to judge every Thai place I go to) and the Thai Hot level didn't let me down. The chicken was well cooked, the dish was well seasoned, and the spice level built throughout the meal. I love a good lip-numbing from time to time, and Wah Ha Ha will definitely keep me coming back. The only downside for me was that I also tried the Panang Curry which was a "hot" (one level down from Thai hot), and it was basically a sweet dish and was not spiced well at all. Will definitely switch back to the Red curry in the future. The only downside of this place is that it can be a little pricey, but I don't order out too often so you can live with it. There's a difference between not judging a book by its cover and completely ignoring your gut! We ordered a number of appetizers with plans on ordering main dishes as we were starving, but when our food started arriving we changed our minds... the shrimp in one dish smelled so bad I couldn't even get close enough to photo it, we had them take it away immediately! The other dishes weren't horrible but not worth eating. Do not let this flop, y'all!! I'm really surprised I haven't left a review yet, given the amount of times my friends & I talk about craving Wah Ha Ha. I've been here for both sit down dinner & the buffet, & while the experiences are a little different, I have no major complaints between the two. Food here is incredibly cheap, especially for the huge portions you get. Pad Thai is good (granted to me, it's hard to mess that one up), tom yum is good, & the chicken wings are good. People here are incredibly friendly. Service is quick, & it's a very casual scene here. I will say I think I enjoyed the sit down dinner more than the buffet, just because I feel like the food tastes better when it's made to order instead of just grabbed from a communal tray. While Thai food is the main staple here, there are a few dishes from other Asian cuisines. Some of my friend's favorites are the different curries & the pho. I have really grown a liking to this place. I have always gotten Togo I havent had a chance to go and eat there. Ordering over the phone is a breeze. After you are done ordering they say it back to you to make sure it's right and then tell you how long it's going to be. When you pick up, the people at the counter have always been pleasant and if the food is not ready by the time you get there they offer to bring it to your car. I'm a big fan of the Thai noodle soup, they offer how much spice you want in it so you get options to have mild medium or hot spice. The chicken spring rolls are really good, everything tastes fresh. The prices aren't terrible and I've had nothing but pleasant visits here. Usually have every other week cause I can't stay away. I really want to try the buffet and the lunch deals. They have great lunch deals and since my work is not close I never get the chance to get it. I will write an updated review when I get around to doing that! read more

At first, we were slightly worried because the place was completely empty and it seemed as though there was only one person there in the kitchen. It took him a while to notice we were there. Food was great but service was super slow. I ordered a fried tofu appetiser and a chicken pad thai (medium spicy). Both dishes came out nice and hot. The fried tofu was perfectly crisp and hot when it came out. The pad thai was cooked well, not overly sauced and spicy enough for me to where I could still enjoy it without gulping down a glass of water. I went to Wa Ha Ha for takeout for my first time today. Located on the northwest side of town next to a value motel, first impressions weren't impressive. However, once inside they had some tasteful decor and a good amount of seating. I had called 10 minutes ahead, and I think I waited an extra 10 minutes or so once I arrived. When I got home, I unpacked my Chicken Pad Thai. It was a good size helping in a styrofoam container, and they also included a plastic fork & napkin. The Pad Thai was good - - not amazing, but good. Though what really impressed me was the price: $10.65! I typically pay $15 or so for Pad Thai, so I really thought they were a good price. I'll definitely be coming back to Wa Ha Ha! :) read more

Visited Wah Ha Ha while traveling for work. The food was really good, the service was terrible, hence three stars. If you don't care about service, this is your place. The restaurant is located right next to a motel and you share parking- it's a little sketchy at night. Also, the restaurant has NO windows. They have completely covered them and it made me feel a bit claustrophobic. I asked for the WiFi password and the waitress pointed to something on the menu and walked away. When she came back I asked for clarification, she said the password was the phone number, noticeably annoyed (it didn't work). I was nervous to ask again but I did and she raised her voice and said it was the phone number (still didn't work- I gave up on that). During the hour I was there, I heard loud chatter coming from the kitchen. Overall, it wasn't a pleasant dining experience. I think take out would have been a better option read more

On a Saturday ooa 5:00pm, I walked in and no one was in sight. I waited for few mins before looking into an adjacent dining rm, to the right of the main entrance, divided by a beaded curtain. There was a young lady resting on the seat of a booth. She seemed a bit annoyed and maybe a bit embarrassed. I was polite, and had no intention of embarrassing her. I just wanted to be seated and order some grub. Other people streamed in at that point, making for a more normal ambiance. Along with my eat-in meal, which was mediocre at best, I ordered take-out Ginger Chicken and chicken wings. The next day upon opening my take-out Ginger Chicken, I discovered a half eaten unrecognizable portion of something, that looked like slop. The chicken wings were way overcooked and hard. I threw both out. Just gross. I was irked, to say the least. I called the restaurant, explained, and the lady who answered said I could order something on the house. I never took her up on it. I've gotten takeout from this place about three times now. Pretty much have tried the standard options of crab rangoon, red curry, panang curry and the pad Thai. The red curry has been my favorite of the options so far as it is pretty flavorful. I can't speak to the service here as I haven't been for a sit down meal yet. I will say I've been a little disappointed in the variance of the spice levels in my meals. I've asked for one dish to be Thai hot and the other dish regular hot in one order and the discrepancy between the two is more of a Thai hot vs. mild/medium. It's hard to know exactly how to rate this restaurant, how many stars they deserve. I always feel like a three-star review is a bad review and the couple running this place are so nice I'd love to give them as high marks as possible. Firstly, the space they went into is a parcel of a cheap and shady hotel, has little parking, and is simply run down though they obviously put some time and money into it since taking over from Bahn Thai. Even with cleaning it up a bit, the interior still looks like it needs work and the lack of music on the stereo when my friend and I were here only made it feel worse--as if we were in an abandoned restaurant. The waitress, who I think is actually one of the owners, was not very attentive but then again, until about five minutes before we left, we were the only customers. It seems like she was up front talking with her husband by the sound of things. She was very nice though despite not checking in on us nearly enough. The portions seemed somewhat small but are reasonable in price and the ingredients seemed very fresh. I've heard they even have a garden in the back where they grow some of the vegetables they use in the food. The recipes are rather authentic: they have Rat Nah which they called instead "Lad Nah" because this is a savory chicken or beef dish and doesn't involve rodents in the least, but in Thai the correct name is transliterated as "Rat Nah". I don't think you could put "Rat Nah" on an American menu though and expect a good reception of it, so Lad Nah it is. We had the red chicken curry and a chicken-based green bean and basil stir fry. Both were alright but not exceptional, slightly over-seasoned especially in the instance of the stir fry. By overly seasoned, it seemed like the chicken had marinated in a soy-based sauce for a while and was too salty. The spring rolls were fine and there was ample chicken in them. I've had better, but certainly also had far worse. In the diversity of dishes on the menu there is a greater feeling of authenticity than one finds in most American Thai restaurants. Still not as diverse as I'd like to see, but better than many. This awkward business of a list of curries with choices of meat then a list of stir fries also with choices of meat then "chef's specials" which you see on most American Thai menus is not reflected of the depth and scope of Thai cuisine at all. Pick up Phaidon's recent Thai cookbook and you'll see exactly what I mean. However, Wah Ha Ha is at least trying I feel to keep things somewhat authentic and centric also to a made-at-home ethos. For a town as small as Gainesville, there is definitely an abundance of really standout food to choose from. Unfortunately, Wah Ha Ha doesn't make that list of standouts but it definitely isn't horrible. We came here as a party of 5 for dinner on graduation weekend. Surprisingly, we had the restaurant to ourselves at the beginning! Service is extremely attentive and friendly, and I appreciated how our server was able to answer all of our questions. I would've appreciated some background music though. It got a little awkward having no background noise when other diners came in. The restaurant's ambience feels like you got sucked into a time warp to the 1980s (I wasn't even alive in the 80s!) but the restaurant overall was clean. I ended up getting the pad Thai and Penang curry. The curry was great! Perfect balance of heat and savoriness with a good amount of veggies and meat. Definitely worth the price. Unfortunately the pad Thai was extremely average for me. It didn't have a very strong flavor and seemed a little dry. I did like the generous garnish of nuts though. Price wise, it's a pretty good value with none of our entrees exceeding $12, all with pretty decent portions too. Went to lunch today finally at Wah Ha Ha. I have been looking at this place for months now and really was looking forward to trying it out. I heard they do a pretty good lunch buffet so I decided to try it out. I went today (07/21) around 1 pm and was surprised about how many people were still there for lunch. When you walk up to this place first is they do not have any windows and even the doors do not have windows. They do a lunch buffet on on Saturdays and it is from 11 am till 3 pm. The lunch buffet was okay at best, nothing to run home about. The buffet is $9.45 and if you get a drink it is around $12 total. They have Pepsi products here, but also have pretty good Thai Teas! The buffet is well stocked and they are constantly refilling it with hot fresh food. The food on the buffet ranged from Thai Fried Rice to Pad Thai, they also had two different curries, fried fish, two soups, and a few other dishes. It had spring rolls, a pear noodle salad, and a beef noodle salad on the cold side. The buffet also had a pineapple tapioca, watermelon, and a couple other items. The food was okay at best. I did not think anything stood out as being better or more amazing than the other. I liked the Pad Thai and the spring rolls the best, but overall there is better Pad Thai and Spring Rolls in town. The staff here was super friendly and nice. The place was clean and they did a nice job cleaning tables in between each person. I am glad I got to try this place out. Gainesville, your vegetarian warrior is back, after being away from the food scene for a few years it's nice to know that most things haven't changed and some things have gotten better. As much as I miss Bahn Thai's greasy and coma inducing buffet it's nice to see Wa Ha Ha has carried the Thai Buffet torch, an institution that is more than 20 years old in this space. Do you know how lucky you are to have a Thai Buffet in town? I was living in San Diego where they have Thai Restaurants how the East Coast has Chinese, literally every other block. At least a hundred Thai Restaurants, and at least 3 that are totally vegetarian. But not a single Thai buffet to speak of. While I don't look to completely gorge myself in excessive glory, getting a buffet (to go) can leave you with 2-3 meals or more so it is a very economical option. At any buffet getting there early is key so I showed up at 11:30. They have the buffet 3x a week, Mon/Wed/Sat 11-3. Monday is usually a slow day for lunch and to no surprise there were only 3 other customers, but it was as I said early. I wasn't sure if they would have many vegetarian options but I found there selection more than adequate. There is a tofu dish, spicy green curry, spring rolls, fried rice (w/ egg), pad thai (w/ egg), tofu soup, and a couple desserts. That's pretty susbtantial and more impressive nothing was the least bit greasy. I don't think the food was as tasty as Bahn Thai's selection, but way healthier. The only thing I miss were their egg rolls (the spring rolls are on the cheaper end) and their delicious plum sauce. I do have two requests...it would be great if they make the eggplant without chicken (and do the Thai spicy eggplant which looks way more delicious), they already have a lot of chicken dishes and those that eat chicken will still eat it. And also if they could make either the pad Thai or fried rice without egg, they would appeal much more to vegans and give them an option for carbs. Oh and also the green papaya salad unfortunately has fish sauce....your brave reviewer found out the hard way. Every other veg option did not have fish sauce I could taste which shows they have some sensitivity to vegetarians. Again the food was clean, not oily, and fresh, pretty rare for a buffet. A little more seasoning for the tofu wouldn't hurt, basil and a touch of sweetness would go a long way. As long as you're a reasonable human being and not expecting an obscene amount of options to fill your spoiled rotten mouth hole, I think you will be satisfied with their selection. This is my 3rd visit so it meets the initial criteria for my FERS (Food Establishment Rating System). There aren't a ton of Thai options in Gainesville so it's easy to run across this one while looking for a solid Penang or Massaman curry. The place sits beside a motel and it's easy to drive right by unless you know what you're looking for. They share a parking lot and the whole setup appears shady. Once inside, you will be more confident that it's really a Thai restaurant. The decor is, not surprisingly, moderate. It appears as if they've tried to juice it up a bit but the outside leaks into the inside. On each of the 3 occasions, I was sort of/kind of greeted. It's not so typical for a small-town feel. 3 out of 3. On our last visit, I ordered a vegan papaya salad. Others ordered a variety of dishes with eggplant or the wife's tofu and mixed veggies. Other than my salad, the food was very, very good. The service was as friendly/unfriendly as the greeting. I completely understand if English is not your first language - I love that you're trying to learn. However, if you're running a business, you can't afford all the miscommunications and little mistakes that occur because of it. There was a young lady who was there each of the 3 times and she was a bit more open and outgoing. The food was hot though it was served as it came out rather than what we're used to - all together. The prices were on par with other restaurants in GNV. So, on a scale of 5, we get: food: 4/5 (hot, fresh, pretty tasty) Service: 3.5/5 atmosphere: 3.5/5 location: 3/5 value: 4/5. Would I go again?
