Located just behind the Hippodrome, in what was the Gainesville Sun building, Liquid Ginger was recommended to us as a vegetarian friendly place to have dinner. We arrived a little after five and were greeted and seated right away. The decor is modern and fun, with a large bar playing NCAA basketball. Our waiter was polite and attentive, and thankfully was well versed with the menu. Here's the problem, which is a big one: while there is a Vegetarian section on the menu, several of the dishes, including the Pad Thai and Vegetable Udon Noodles are not actually vegetarian, as they contain fish sauce. Thankfully, we asked and our waiter told us which dishes contained "just a little" fish sauce. We both opted for a Singapore Vegetable Noodle dish that he recommended, one that we did not see on the menu. My Thai Iced tea was very good, and the Singapore Vegetable Noodle dish, a curry dish with broccoli, snap peas, and carrots, was perfectly fine. The problem with the menu listing dishes that contain fish under the vegetarian section is a big one, and a deal breaker for me, so despite the excellent service and fun atmosphere, I would not be inclined to go back.

One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to! Quick and friendly service and great sushi. My friend recommended their foxy lady roll and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I also tried a salmon and avocado roll to get our feet wet with raw fish and it was deeeeliciousss! I also got a try a piece of their yellowtail and scallion roll that my friend so graciously shared with me. The chicken fried rice is was good. All the food was well portioned and left our bellies feeling full. The shrimp tempura in the foxy lady roll was nice and crunchy, a little different from other shrimp tempura I've had at other restaurants. If I'm ever in the Gainesville area again I would definitely pass by liquid ginger again.

We went here for lunch while in Gainesville. We opted for the lunch specials - sashimi with miso soup and ginger salad (tuna, whitefish, salmon- so delicious) and my daughter did a mix of sushi and rolls- we both liked our options very much. The service was good- I did ask for low sodium soy and they did bring it to me. It is in a cute little area of downtown. I recommend going here for sushi - the fish was fresh and we were both satisfied- even took home the salmon roll!

The service was great and it wasn't crowded even with a big group. The atmosphere is nice, but a bit dark. My food was really good, not my favorite Thai food ever but still delicious!

Pretty good Asian place in a cute plaza in downtown Gainesville. I've also passed by liquid ginger when downtown, and it's pretty hard to miss the creepy moon statue outside. I figured I'd finally try it and I had a pretty good experience. The ambiance of the interior was a little gloomy, but it was still cute nonetheless. The wait staff wasn't very quick despite not being busy, but I do not want to hold it against them. I ordered the pad thai and my girlfriend ordered what I believe were the udon noodles with steak. The pad thai was pretty good and on par with other thai or asian places i've had across gainesville. I thought it could have used a little more sauce, but the chicken and the vegetables were all cooked well and still tasty. The udon noodles with steak were decent and the steak and vegetables were cooked pretty well. The main dismay was that the dish was absurdly oily, such that there was a pool of oil on the bottom and the leftovers left a film of oil across the takeout container. The dish was still enjoyable, just a little less oil would've been appreciated. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend trying it out for anything pan-asian or thai fusion as I believe they have a lot to offer. They also have an expansive sushi menu that I didn't get to try, so i'd love to try that too!

I'm not sure what's causing this problem but just give them a call! They are always friendly with making reservations.

    Do they serve libations?

There's nothing I don't love about this place. It's food and staff are wonderful. It's clean and inviting. I've given this place my highest rating.

But you can't eat the wallpaper. I'm looking at this chicken and I'm confused. I thought we were doing something sophisticated, but they brought out those boneless nuggets you find in the back of the freezer at 2:00 AM. Then they hit it with a drizzle of ketchup like it's a consolation prize. This isn't Korean Fried Chicken; it's a school lunch with a passport. It's dishonest. Then you got the pork belly. I don't know if this pig was an athlete or if it's just been sitting back there since the grand opening, but it's got the texture of a pink eraser. I'm chewing and chewing, just waiting for a flavor that never shows up. My jaw is doing a full-body workout. I didn't come here for a survival mission, I came here for a snack. And please, watch yourself when you pull up. There is a pothole in the lot that looks like a portal to another dimension. An asteroid literally made a home in front of the building. If you hit that thing, your car is staying there forever. The service is elite and the chairs are nice, but the kitchen is confused. It's style over substance. Take a picture for the 'gram, say hi to the nice server, and then go get a burger somewhere else. Don't do this to your suspension or your stomach.

The first night it was CRAZY busy. It's a smaller restaurant, and even though I was sitting at the bar, I had to wait a little because the kitchen was backed up. I honestly didn't mind because I figured that was probably a good sign that I picked the right place! I sat at the bar and was taken care of by Will. I overheard that he had literally just come from working his first job and was starting his second shift, and you never would've known it. He was on top of everything, taking care of his tables and everyone at the bar while still being friendly and attentive. He recommended the Lonely Angel roll, and it was a 10/10. I had it with miso soup and a glass of wine and left very happy with my choice. Well, I worked all day the next day and hadn't eaten, and I'm a creature of habit. If somewhere is good, I'm going back! I went back a little earlier this time, so it was much quieter, and to my surprise Will was behind the bar again. I got to talk with him a little more and he was super personable and genuinely enjoyable to chat with. He recommended a tuna tobachi and a Hokkaido roll, and somehow they were BOTH even better than what I had the night before. Seriously, 100/10. Great food, great service, and clearly consistent enough to get me there two days in a row. If I'm ever back in Gainesville, I will absolutely be back. Definitely ask Will what he recommends because he hasn't missed yet!

So for a while, I actively told my friends and family not to come here because it was the same quality, for an exorbitant price. This year, I gave it another shot. I came to this restaurant at different times with different guests, and although the original Sensei Asian Bistro I've known and loved is gone, they've definitely changed -- for the better this time! The quality of the food you eat definitely matches the price. The staff is well trained, and sweet. The ambiance is chill, I like the wingback chairs and the background music. The entire restaurant feels like it's improved drastically -- from the food, to the vibes, and the service. - I ate the lobster wontons, this was really good. - The tonkotsu ramen they have is seasonal from their summer menu but it is fairly priced -- probably cheaper than a lot of ramen places in Gainesville. However, you can definitely taste the quality. The noodles were chewy and bouncy, the broth was nice and thick. - I had the NY Strip too, that was good as well, very soft. I liked how it wasn't overcooked. - The nigiri set, has wasabi already put in between the fish and the rice, but you can definitely ask for more wasabi (or no wasabi). - I also ate the lamb chops -- the taste was delicate compared to a lot of places that serve lamb chops. I think I prefer their style because it did not feel as heavy in the stomach. - I also got the Grand Cru NY Strip. It is definitely worth $150. I literally choked on the fatty juices that came out of one piece. The Grand Cru is no joke. The flavor literally bursts in your mouth. It's very filling because it's so fatty. - For dessert I got the Kakigori. Personally, I like the shaved ice part -- I didn't like the crème brûlée part. It was too sweet. I know they sometimes have a tasting menu so I'm definitely waiting for that to come back!

My husband's second never came at all. The food was pretty good although the appetizer portions were insanely small for the price. For my entree I ordered the NY strip. $45. I got some food to take away from the bar including Kung Pao chicken, lion's head meatballs (pork, no lions were harmed!), eggplant, and lo mein. The lion's head meatballs were excellent, the Kung Pao chicken very spicy and very good, the eggplant a bit soggy but alright, the lo mein . . . well, no better than most strip mall quick Chinese places, honestly. Still, it was good overall and this is very nice to have a place for take-away in the grocery store--it's also beside the boba tea and mochi donut counter so you can get your dessert and just everything in one fell swoop here. I did find it, as someone who cooks a lot of Chinese food myself, rather bemusing that they aced the tricky dishes and yet pretty much botched the lo mein which should have been the easiest part of the menu.
