We stayed here for a total of 5 nights last week and had a great time. The hotel is centrally located which means you can walk to a lot of places. While here, we walked to Royal Hawaiian Center, International Marketplace and even to the beach. The room was spacious and clean. My partner booked the room so I cant say about the cost. We have a King Bed with balcony and partial ocean view on the 15th floor. This hotel comes equipped with a small fridge inside every room. It comes in handy if you need to store leftover food or drinks. I like that this hotel comes with a water refilling station on the first floor close to the pool. We both love drinking water and would always need to refill our water bottles. There is also a washer and dryer for guests to use on the 5th floor. We had to use the dryer to dry our swimwear since we leave early morning of the next day. The staff is nice. They do housekeeping every other day which is a good thing. The bathrooms are very small in my opinion. My partner and I always shower together and we cant in this hotel. Overall, the hotel isnt bad considering we only stay here to sleep and relax. We were out and about all the time to maximize our time in Hawaii. We will definitely stay here again in the future. read more

The bathroom was stinky and gross; it doesn't have a fan or a window, so it doesn't even satisfy the health and safety codes of Hawaii. The elevator was broken, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs and downstairs. When we got back, we also found that we were charged more than what we were quoted for. Windows did not block out party noises, even though we were on the 17th floor. With humidity and no fan in the bathroom, we really needed towel service every day. We also could have used a trash can on our floor. Scary narrow ramps in parking lot convinced us to never rent a car in Waikiki. Pros: ocean view for an excellent price. Fun extras like free ice cream and ukulele lessons on Fridays. Towels for the beach offered, no questions asked. Welcoming staff. Table for in-room eating. The first room was musty, peeling paint, a slanted dirty tub, the bathroom so small you have to lean on the sink to close the door to skim past the toilet to get into the tub! Hate to write this review had the worst experience staying here. At first we were very happy facilities looks nice and clean then we got to our room (we stayed in the older section of hotel) right when we open the door it was humid inside the room and had a weird smell. The room is outdated but decent but at night time the sound of something in the wall kept us awake at night at first we thought it was the mini split so we dealt with it. We then there turned off the air conditioner off at night and we still heard a sound that we believe was an animal there (see video to hear the sound). I called the front desk to let them know about the sound so they moved us two floors (202 to 403) up even though we were staying only one more night this was a mistake I woke up covered in bites see pics. The parking is another story $210 to park in the worst parking garage. I hate to say that I cannot recommend this hotel the one good thing is the location. read more

The biggest problem with this place is that they don't tell you that there's an extra fee every night you spend there. We were given a trip by my son, and when we checked in they charged us an extra $300 for some kind of hidden fees. I thought that was awful. So expect it! Next, they say they have ocean views. You're gonna need binoculars. Everything is built up all the way around this hotel. my son paid for us to stay on the top floor and I'll add a picture. Do not pay extra for ocean view!! They also have mandatory maid service. I didn't like that. I like to put everything in my room I know that no one's going into my room until after leave. There is no cutting out breakfast, just coffee. The concierge needs to be replaced or trained. We asked him several different questions on different days and he knew absolutely nothing! He didn't even know about the night market that happens every single Monday, Just down the street. The positives are there was a refrigerator in the room that we did not discover until the last day we were there. It's in the dresser. I never use those dressers and never thought that it would be hidden like that. They do have a hairdryer in the closet. The beds are super comfortable, very firm. Room was pretty clean. There was dust behind the toilet seat between it and a tank. The staff was incredibly nice. Every single one of them. The location is perfect, just around the corner to get on the trolley. There's a 24 hour IHOP two doors down. There is no shuttle service from The airport but the W line is three dollars a person and stopped right outside the hotel. read more

We stayed at the Waikiki Malia Hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday, my wife and I, with our daughter and her family (husband and two granddaughters) and I thought the hotel was FABULOUS, and especially for the price!! The hotel is less than 3-blocks from Waikiki Beach, accessed at multiple points of entry including the Sheraton Waikiki Resort where our other daughter, son and grandson stayed. Yes, the restaurant does not have a hotel restaurant per se, but literally just outside the hotel, within a 5-10 minute walk, you have so many options to eat, shop, eat, shop, eat shop, . . . . . attend a luau, go to Mass, eat, shop, eat shop, etc. Also, there are probably ~10 ABC stores in that same distance where you can buy anything!! And there is a Target, YES, a Target in the same walking distance!! The hotel does NOT have a fabulous pool, it's no larger than most hot tubs, but you can be at the beach ~10 minutes and the hotel will give you beach towels. The bathrooms are a little small, as well as closet space, but the dresser is HUGE. The patios are small without chairs to sit outside, but, okay - the views are great!! The staff were absolutely wonderful, helpful and attentive. I would definitely return to this hotel because I'd rather spend less on a hotel room and use it for great eating and shopping and time at the beach!! read more

I stayed here for my boyfriends birthday weekend. First off, location is a prime spot in Waikiki. It's just a short walk from the Royal Hawaiian, STIX, International Market Place and other places. First off, we are local and still had to pay for parking, but it's super tight and narrow. I don't know how people with trucks were able to fit there. Second, the rooms are decently sized and come with free reusable water bottles and a bag, but the walls are so thin you can hear everything outside of the room. The bathroom is small and the water was leaking from the shower facet. They don't clean the rooms daily and they don't replace the towels if you leave it outside, you have to call them to get it. The pool they have is small and gets crowded really fast. For the location, it's convenient. But I wouldn't stay here again unless they improve on parking, service and amenities. read more

Waikiki Malia is a five minute walk away from the beach. The room itself is average, the decor--dated. The restroom is on the small size, especially the shower. If you are on the bigger side whether horizontally or vertically then you may find it uncomfortable. They do have a decent size hot tub but a dinky size pool. If you're over six feet tall you can probably get a few strokes in before hitting the wall. A laundry room is on site as well as a small fitness area, and across the street are several places to eat (not too fancy). What stood out to me at this hotel was the excellent service. All staff members were friendly and welcomed you every time they saw you with a warm smile. It made me feel like I was staying at an aunt or uncle's house. My last visit with my family wasn't great, and I even left a not-so-good Yelp review about it a year ago. To my surprise, the manager reached out right away and genuinely wanted to resolve the issue -- which really impressed me. Me and my Ohana been coming here every once a year for the past 5 years and we love it here..we always get the 1 Bedroom Studio 1 Queen 2 Twin Beds which is a separate area and separated elevator from the regular rooms..our room comes with it's own kitchen with mini stove (depending on what floor..some don't comes with the stove) ..sink..mini fridge..iron with iron board..coffee with coffee machine..plates..forks..spoons and pans to cook..and personal microwave (other guest over at the other area of the hotel share microwave at a different part of the hotel) just like what other reviewers stated it's a bit old fashion with decor but you're in Hawaii..go out and explore the outside don't be stuck In the room..we never stayed at the reg rooms but I heard it's nice and more updated There is a lot of food places like restaurants.. food trucks and a lot of hole in the wall places to eat at..tattoo salons...massage places and place to do your nails..bar downstairs and around the corner and IHop that's connected to the hotel ..all walking distance.. We never had any bug issues..no smell issues..yeah the streets is a bit noisy with drunks..fights and cop cars but we locals and we're just used to the noise..room is and always had been clean when we arrive. Loved the place. Had to book 2 nights on the fly at the airport due to grounded flights, and I couldn't have been happier with their service and hospitality. The rooms were spacious, airy and in the perfect nook of downtown before all the main attractions (and even Macdonald's -when you're feeling broke) I really enjoyed their Friday activity of making flower lei from scratch while partaking in cold, creamy gelato. The staff is great, especially Victor. He is amazingly friendly, kind. My wife describes him as a "sweetheart" but im not writibg this review because of the staff but because of the room(s), rooms we are in, which are about 20 rooms are horrible to ok. I describe it as horrible because of the pool of water on the floor every time we shower. My son actually slipped, and hurt his knees, one side with abrasions and the knee with almost 2 inch laceration (cut). Hawaii state law requires a bathroom with out window to have a mechanical vent to suck out the steam. When I asked the management at it, they just said all that's required is a vent. Hawaii law regarding a no window bathroom, In Hawaii, bathrooms without windows are generally permitted as long as they are provided with proper mechanical ventilation (such as an exhaust fan) to satisfy health and safety codes. While many local codes specify that bathrooms should have natural ventilation via a window (often at least 1.5 square feet of openable area), mechanical ventilation is the standard alternative when a window is not present. So after I told them about the problem and my son falling and hurting himself, they said they would have a maintenance guy look at it. When later that day when I asked if anyone went to the room, NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT SO BASICALLY I WAS PUSHED AWAY AND IGNORED. Thank you Waikiki Malia for ignoring me and not caring about my issue or my son's pain and blood. I booked months in advance with a description of what was included in my stay just for me to show up and receive a room that was not what I paid for. I booked a 1 bedroom, two queen sized bed for a few nights and was given pictures of that I'd be staying in. After my arrival, I was given a room that was not finished renovating and was clearly warn down. Not at all what I paid for. I expressed to the front desk my request for a new room and was told the promotion I was previously able to apply to the room at the time of booking "no longer exists" for the newly renovated rooms.. I asked what can we do to make this right. I'm clearly not happy with the situation. They weren't willing to honor the promotion. They were not accommodating and offered to upgrade my room for additional charges and smaller beds (only had full beds for newly renovated rooms)? I was surprised to learn they also charge daily amenity/daily parking fees which were both $40 and $45 extra DAILY. On top of what I previously was charged for the room. This was applied after my arrival. I also would like to add the laundry room provided is also very warn down. $5.25 per machine (washer/driers) and had to use the dryer twice for somewhat dry clothes. Clearly these "daily amenity fees" aren't used for that is intended. Don't even get me started on parking there. It's one lane in and out and SO tight to navigate while on a steep garage ramp. I am writing to formally communicate my profound dissatisfaction with a recent hotel stay, which regrettably fell far below any reasonable expectation of hospitality and comfort. From the outset, it became clear that the establishment does not prioritize guest comfort or provide value commensurate with its rates. The overall condition of the property is noticeably antiquated and appears to be in dire need of significant renovation and modernization. Individuals accustomed to a certain standard of accommodation will likely find the current offerings unsatisfactory. My allocated accommodation presented a multitude of concerning issues. A distinct and pervasive unpleasant odor permeated the room upon entry. Furthermore, the cleanliness standards were alarmingly low; the kitchen appliances, specifically the stove in the suite, exhibited considerable grime and lack of proper sanitation. Most disturbingly, I encountered evidence of pest infestation, including various insects such as spiders, ants, and suspected bed bugs, which is an utterly unacceptable condition for any lodging facility. Attempts to address these critical deficiencies with the management team proved largely ineffective. Despite being moved to several different rooms, the fundamental problems persisted, indicating systemic issues rather than isolated incidents. This lack of resolution further exacerbated an already distressing situation and reflected a concerning inability to provide a satisfactory guest experience. In summary, the pervasive issues with cleanliness, maintenance, pest control, and the inadequacy of staff response profoundly undermined the potential for a comfortable or enjoyable experience. The Waikiki Malia Hotel surprised me--in a good way. It's modern, clean, and the staff is genuinely so kind and outgoing that part of me wanted to give it 5 stars just based on vibes alone. The room? Small. But let's call it intimate. Because let's be honest: if you're spending all your time in the hotel room while in Waikiki, you're doing Hawaii wrong. The king bed was super comfy, the pillows were great, and the bathroom was sparkling clean with a full lineup of soaps and lotions. Plus, it smelled fantastic--like the kind of beachy candle you'd pretend to "accidentally" knock into your luggage. And shoutout to the night security guard: a bald guy with face tattoos who looked like he either moonlights as a tattoo artist or runs a fight club out of the basement. Either way--vibes immaculate, and I felt very safe. But now... the one thing I can't overlook. The plumbing. Every night and every morning, you're treated to a full surround sound performance--The Symphony of the Flush. The pipes in this place are so loud, I swear I could hear people's dinners making their final descent like it was live commentary. It's like staying inside a submarine toilet. Thank you to the Waikiki Malia team for a wonderful stay. The check in process was smooth to pull up to the hotel looks a little weird cause it can be mistaken for a sidewalk, which it kinda is but you can drive up next to the entrance. The price was worth the stay, I am Kamaaina so the rates were cheaper (need a Hawai'i ID to apply for kamaaaina). We had a city view king size room, very spacious for 2 people and the bath was a bit small and the balcony, the sink in the bathroom was actually loose and looked like if you applied pressure to the sink it would fall off. The service was great all around, I really love there texting system so instead of calling the front desk, I can text for any request or questions. The only down fall was the parking, it's a bit humbug and really tight driving up and down. The first night we stayed the parking was not too bad but the 2nd night was rough, if I pay $40+ for parking, I would hope that there would be available parking or at least have a valet available, we pulled up around 10pm and had to wait about 15mins for parking, but the parking attendant was attentive and nice to run up and down to look for a spot. Not their fault, but lady in room next to us, screaming at her husband at 3:30am, called desk, next day, other side, people talking loudly when getting back from bar, late at night. I gotta say, when I first read about the Waikiki Malia (WM) it was pretty mixed. I didn't have high expectations of the place. It was basically you get get what you paid for. After staying there for 4 nights I felt that this place was pretty good. The place looks very nice and almost posh. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We asked for extra towels since we had a big group and they provided the towels. When you walk out your right on Kuhio ave and only a block or two from Kalakuna Ave. you're right in the middle of the action. Waikiki beach is about a 15 minute walk for us because of the kids. Might be faster for others. The room is small but it works. We had two beds the room was very clean. The TV in the room is much bigger than you see at hotel. Our room 1615 had a semi view of the ocean and buildings but it was a very nice view. The AC was nice and chilled the room fast. Easy to control. With that said, the problem I had with the room and the adjoining rooms is that the AC itself is loud. Regardless whether it was a low setting or a high setting it was the same speed and the AC run for 5 minutes and stop and be back on like 3 minutes each time. SOME SHOUTING MAYBE REQUIRED. The bathroom is nice. The only problem I have with it is that the shower. The fixture we have is the handheld shower. You can grab it and shower and hook it back. Accept the thing that holds the shower is worn out and often falls down. They do provide parking at $35 a night. If your vehicle is a minivan or a 4x4 you're regulated to the 2nd floor. The space is tight and I recommend backing into your parking spot versus heading in. ***To get to the garage you will not want to listen to the GPS. Kuhio Ave is one way and the entry for the garage is not on Kuhio but on Lewers St, a one way street. If you are driving in from somewhere you will want to get onto Kalakua Ave and turn Left on Lewers St to gain access to the garage. If you're gonna drop off family/friends at the front door be careful of the pedestrians walking around. The minus part about parking is that it's tight and it's a two way ramp meaning that if you're going up that ramp there's a chance a car could be coming down at the same time. Luckily that didn't happen during my stay. The WM does provide a pool and a jacuzzi/hot tub. You can adjust the hot tub temp that is located on a wall. The pool is small and it never really gets the sun which I've read people complain about. Personally I think it works especially on really hot days and you've been in the sun for a while. This is perfect to cool down. The bad part about the pool is not the lack of sun and size but really the stairs to enter the pool. It's four steps and the edges of the steps can cause bruising as they are sharp. If it was rounded out I think you won't need to bring a shin guard to the pool. There are plenty of food options around the area but if you're really wanting to go wild there's a IHOP next door. If you want to do laundry it's $5.25 to wash your clothes. $4.75 to dry the clothes. Some of the machines takes coins and some take coin and cards. Detergent is $2.00 and dryer sheets are $1.75. You can get two loads and the dryer sheets are two in one box. The washing machine takes 32 minutes to wash. Normal drying takes 57 minutes. Laundry is located on the 5th floor along with the exercise room and ice machine and microwave. Which leads me to this. One of the big negatives I have with this place is that the ice machine and microwave are located on the 5th and 15th floor. Though I've heard there maybe one on the 9th? It's annoying having to go down to the 15th floor and get ice only to find out that it's empty half the time. That's what happens when you only have like two ice machines for the entire hotel. It would be nice to have them on every floor to avoid trying to win the ice lottery, I got a quarter of a cup. As for the microwave. You'll get to meet some people while waiting for the microwave. Maybe it's the hotel way of getting people to talk? Room service won't stop by your room and change sheets unless you're there for more than two nights. The WM is a nice place. I think there were a lot of positives with this place. I think this place is perfect for those who just need a place to stay and get to the beach quickly. If you're wanting a place to party this place isn't big enough and you might also need to buy some ice since you're not gonna get much with the ice machines. I would recommend this place and I would book it again in the future. As for the loud noises due to Waikiki action...THE AC WILL DROWN OUT THAT NOISE. read more

No complains. It's definitely not a 5 star hotel, the decor in the room is old & dated, but it's clean, quiet, & roaches & bed bugs free. Very little noise, unless you open your curtain & window. Parking is very tight, if you have a large vehicle. Max height is 6 feet something. There's only 1 way in/out. So be careful. I had a jeep grand Cherokee, & I made it up/down to the 5th floor just fine. You have to swing very wide though. Entrance to garage is on Lewers St on the right, which is one way only. So you must approach it from Kalakaua Ave, then left on Lewers St. Gym & laundromat are on the 5th floor. There's a charge of $30ish per day for something. Reading other reviews in 2023, there's complains about parking, but I experience no such problem with my parking. Maybe they changed it? Close to everything. Fireworks is every Friday at the Hilton. If you have a car, eat what the locals eat, instead of eating anything on the boardwalk. Only exception is Marukame Udon. Every shop on the boardwalk is expensive, overpriced, small food portion. If you have a car, try Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery for delicious, cheap dim sum. Drive Inn's are great, like Kalihi, Gina's, Cafe Kalawe, Soon's Kal Bi. This is my 2nd visit & I loved the island vibe, & the lush flora. Will definitely stay here again. read more

First time staying at this hotel. It was in a very good location with walking distance to all the shopping centers, restaurants and Waikiki beach. We were in the newly remodeled rooms so it was very clean and fresh. We had a little fridge for in the room so that was great! Wish there was a microwave like some other hotels which they don't but they do offer a shared microwave on a different floor. The staff was very friendly and attentive. 3.5 stars for affordable pricing/ central location! This hotel is centrally located in Waikiki and there is parking available (you can pay for the specific nights you have your rental car). Parking is tight! For those who want to utilize their public biking system, there is a Biki within a block to the hotel. Rooms need some updating with regard to carpeting but other than that, TV/ furniture were ok. Bathroom could be larger but given Hawaii, I cannot complain. We stayed in a room with ocean view and it offered a very small balcony. Room came with a refrigerator. Microwave was only located on one floor out of the entire building, and ice machines weren't on every floor. Bell service was available to help bring our luggages up. Swimming pool available is small; due to COVID conditions, it requires reservations. Like most hotels in Waikiki they also have towel service so you don't need to worry about using your hotel towels for for the beach. Overall, I would stay again. read more

They never responded to my TWO polite emails for customer support, even though they provide their email address after doing a booking. I'm on a 4-hour time zone difference, so email communication (versus phone) is important to be an option. When I checked out they told me my deposit was refunded immediately, but they NEVER REFUNDED my deposit!!! Even after emailing them about it! Also - I really regret booking this hotel and not listening to the reviews that mentioned how horrendous the parking garage was. I drove a Ford Mustang convertible (very small car) and was still barely able to fit in there. $767 for 3 nights PLUS a deposit is ridiculous for what I received, and I would never stay here again. read more

One of our bags was stolen by Housekeeping. Staff did nothing to help us retrieve our items. The room was not cleaned prior to us checking in. Both the showers and sinks had hair in them. Do not recommend. The front desk staff was very rude and dismissive. read more
