I love this hotel very much!! The staff is very kind and welcoming. We ate the complementary breakfast here every morning because it was so good!! My favorite was the different fruits they put out and the blueberry muffins. We stayed on the 18th floor (right below the penthouse) and our view was amazing. The description says partial beach view, which is true, but you can still see the beautiful blue water all day, and if you look from the other side you will see diamond head. Our room was pretty small, but it worked for my family of 3. There were 2 beds, both full sized beds (which is a bit hard to squeeze 2 people in, but we made it work!) The shower does have a bathtub but it's very tiny, but it would be good for children. The shower faucet is very confusing though but one of us knew how to work it so it was alright. The room we stayed in did not have a microwave, but it did have a mini fridge. Down by the pool there is a station to fill up water bottles (ice and water!), a soda vending machine, and a microwave. Speaking about the pool, it is a pretty decent sized pool. Nothing amazing but it's definitely a good size and very refreshing! There are lots of tables and chairs around the pool as well. I would definitely stay here again if I came back! Thank you :)

As you step into this hotel, you'll be greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The front desk team is friendly and efficient, making check-in a seamless experience. While our room was desperately due for an upgrade, it still offered comfortable beds and amazing water pressure in the shower. The room supplied a Keurig coffee maker, refrigerator, and TV, providing all the basic essentials. Nothing fancy. The city view was a lovely bonus, especially considering our last-minute booking. The complimentary breakfast on the second floor offers a unique spread, featuring cold cuts, sweet bread, hard-boiled eggs, and fresh fruit. A large area for toasting bread. It's okay if you want hot coffee and a snack before heading out for the day. If you're looking for a more traditional breakfast, the restaurant downstairs serves an excellent meal at a fair price. I recommend the restaurant downstairs. I had my breakfast there several times during my stay. The pool area is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of shade and fresh beach towels available in the basement. The staff that gives you your towels are very helpful and friendly. The hotel's is in a great location just steps away from the beach and within walking distance to numerous shops and restaurants. Overall, this hotel offers a good blend of comfort, convenience, and value. Nothing fancy but it's definitely not the worst place you can stay in.

Friendly and courteous staff! Clean rooms and only 2 minute walk to the beach and shopping. Branden whom checked us in remembered us mentioning we are here to celebrate our girls birthdays and had a sweet gift and card for them!

Aloha I've stayed here so many times I've lost count. The hotel staff are like family too me. Its in a great location, the rooms are well stocked and always clean. The house keeping staff do a exceptional job. I always enjoy my stay here. The Ilima restaurant is great for breakfast . The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Waikiki which makes it easy access to restaurants, entertainment & shopping. I highly recommend the Waikiki Resort Hotel Mahalo Sandy Dominguez

We've stayed here about 8 times in the last 10 to 12 years, so just about every year. The wife & I call it our home away from home. Conveniently located next to everything, beach, shops, & of course the ABC Stores for quick snacks & drinks. I just want to give a Big Mahalo to front desk staff & reservationist's, Sherri & Derek for their great hospitality & warm Aloha welcome. Hope to see you guys again, soon !! We were impressed with how clean the general appearance is and how close to the beach it is. My fiancé is quite particular with cleanliness. This location passed the test.

For a mid-tier priced hotel this was a really bad experience for us. We initially planned our stay here for 3 nights, but checked out after the first night and went somewhere else. It took us a good 30+ minutes to check in... the exterior and lobby are very misleading to the individual rooms. Our 2-rooms were extremely rundown, congested, dirty and just smelled like nasty wet/moldy carpet! They are centrally located so if you're not OCD like my family, this might be a place for you on a budget. Additionally the 'free breakfast' was one boiled egg and a single nature valley bar and an extremely think-oily chocolate glazed donut. A few people in our party are unable to eat this type of breakfast diet, when asked if they have alternatives the guy literally said 'this is free what do you expect'. Overall if you're able to spend an extra $25-$50/night, do that and go somewhere else!

I thought overall for the price that this hotel was pretty good. Very close location to the beach and a lot of touristy shops and restaurants. I thought the pool layout was great and had VERY comfy pool chairs with a lot of padding. The pool however was very cold. We received buy 1 get 1 free breakfast buffet coupons for the restaurant inside. It was a nice touch and the breakfast was good. The buffet is $15.95/person so that gives you an idea of the quality/level of this hotel. I came here to celebrate my birthday and after check in (few hours later) we received a happy birthday welcome card and a little box of the Honolulu company cookies - nice touch! The room's bed was comfortable. I like how the room had a separate bar area with a sink. The TV in the room was very small. Probably the smallest TV I've seen in a hotel room. The bathroom sink there was not much shelf space for items, but the shower itself was very big and had good shower pressure. Check in was efficient and the lady DEE was super friendly. Overall, it just feels like a basic 3 star hotel nothing fancy but if you are traveling on a budget and want to save your money for more activities and dinners, then come here. There was always staff around in the lobby to help assist you. Would come back again for the right price.

They have an outdoor parking lot as well as in under ground garage. I prefer the outdoor lot as the underground garage has tight spaces. It is self parking no valet. There is a daily fee. Contact the hotel for the fee.

The Banyan Wing is the original Victorian-era building which is listed on National Historic Registry and houses the main lobby and restaurant. The number of guests and visitor who circulate through this property daily is incredible. Including the Tower and Surfrider Wings, it has 791 rooms. Our Tower room had a great covered patio with incredible views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. We spent a lot of time on the patio watching the surfers, catamarans, and enjoying the island breeze. Our balcony was spectacular :o Our room was updated and very comfortable. I understand the owners completed a full renovation of all rooms in 2026. The beach bar is one of the best in the world. Cold cocktails, beer and wine. Good service. Great views! The drawbacks.... The pool is small and very crowded, especially for 791 rooms. With that said everyone in the pool was smiling and having fun. The beach is also pretty small for such a massive hotel. At high tide the hotel only has about 30 feet of beachfront and it is a public beach so it is crowded Rio style. For us this was not a drawback as we love Waikiki, the birthplace of Hawaiian surfing, and spend most of our time in the surf. Hawaii and Waikiki is one of the few places that completely lives us to the hype year after year and generation after generation. We can't wait to return. Aloha & Mahalo

After visiting and eating at this resort in years past, we were excited about the opportunity to…read moreactually stay here. So much history as shown throughout the resort especially on the second floor, but also the open Victorian architecture which presents a relaxing atmosphere. Our friends thought we were "rich" for being able to stay here but I don't recall the prices being too different than other hotels in the area. We also got a great offering through the American Express card. We arrived on island early afternoon and attempted to stay up as late as possible. However, we were given a room on the second floor of the historic side of the hotel where they host events on the patio area outside our room. While we were trying to sleep at 8-9pm, a festive wedding was going on with their DJ blasting music, people dancing, yelling, the DJ trying to motivate the audience, etc. It was not a fun night as my wife complained to the hotel staff about the noise interfering with our ability to sleep. It's not the fact the wedding was occuring, but rather the fact the hotel staff didn't let us know they were putting us next to the hotel night club of sorts. Hawaii is typically laid back and quiet, which this was not. The hotel staff sympathisized and mentioned the wedding would be finished by 10pm which it was, and tried to make things better. On day 3 around 4am, the hotel fire alarm sounded and advised everyone to vacate the building. When we vacated, we learned it was a false alarm. This was our last day at the Moana Surfrider which we assumed was a sign the resort wasn't meant to be a relaxing experience for us. The hotel has activities associated with the resort fee such as yoga, that we registered for. It was my first time doing yoga despite mention by my wife over the years to do it. I figured it would be a pleasant surprise for her if I signed us up, and it was a great class out on the same patio area as the wedding. I won't say it was fun for me, but it was an experience that we both enjoyed. The room itself was small which I assume is because it was part of the historic side of the hotel. There wasn't a balcony which we've come to appreciate especially in Hawaii to be able to go outside, view the water, and smell the air. Instead there was a window which we tried to orient ourselves in to get a picture of us with our welcome leis and Waikiki Beach in the background. Very challenging to appreciate a window as well as find space in the room to lay out two large suitcases without having to relocate furniture. The shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor as the cracks in the glass were not sealed so there was a constant wet towel on the floor. The bathroom in general didn't seem very modern considering the hotel had recently undergone years of modernization. Housekeeping was good and treated us well with towels and drinking water. I believe the Tower rooms of the hotel might be more modern and larger, as well as away from the event area of the hotel. I think we would look at other options in the future as we also spent a few days each during this trip at the Sheraton and The Royal Hawaiian which provided a much different experience in comparison.

It was centrally located at the beach walk, so ABC Store, shops, restaurants, and the beach were all within walking distance. *It was difficult finding the location of the hotel, when we first arrived. There was no big sign that you can spot, while you're driving, so my landmarks I always looked for were the ABC Store and Denny's. STAFF/SERVICE: Everyone that we came across during our stay was very friendly, generous, kind, and attentive. A shoutout to the Valet Service crew, especially RJ. He gave us recommendations for where to go. He always made us smile and laugh with his jokes. Thank you Uncle! We also used our American Express Platinum Hotel Credit benefit, and it was great that this hotel qualified for it. Ka Laʻi is one block from the beach, backing up to Fort DeRussy Park, a military reservation, and is surrounded by many shops and restaurants, especially along Luxury Row, which is a non-negotiable visit for us. There is so much aloha felt here, with the staff always greeting us with genuine smiles and a willingness to help. The hotel is quiet and soothing, perfect for a relaxing stay. We checked in seamlessly and were provided with cold, refreshing water upon our arrival. Our room was spacious and felt very cozy, with beige carpet and tile flooring, brown furniture, and dark cabinetry in the kitchen. In the seating area, there was a large full-size sofa, an upholstered side chair, and a coffee table. The long dresser and closet provided plenty of storage. A lovely welcome treat was left in our room: two Ka Laʻi reusable water bottles, Hawaiian semi-sweet chocolate, and Beach Brittle. These items were a very nice touch. If you feel inclined to enjoy more Beach Brittle, you can purchase it downstairs in the small shop next to the spa. The bathroom had a double-sink vanity with plenty of counter space, which is a must for me, a large soaking tub, and a wet shower area. It was a generously sized bathroom with plenty of room to move around. Our stay included a wonderful breakfast buffet at Inyō. There was an omelet station with a chef preparing made-to-order omelets, along with a variety of beautiful fresh fruit, hot and cold breakfast items, rice, and Asian-inspired bites. The infinity pool is located near the restaurant, Inyō. It's tiled in a beautiful blue that adds a nice contrast to the tan backdrop of the neighboring high-rise buildings. The pool is long and narrow, accented by a series of raised, tiled planter islands that provide a bit of privacy between guests. We were too busy to swim or enjoy the other amenities, but just walking around the grounds was incredibly relaxing. It's a very peaceful place to stay, unlike many of the larger hotel brands. The standout at this hotel was definitely the service. The staff always made eye contact, greeted us warmly, and either asked about or anticipated our needs. There were plenty of kids swimming when we were there, so we felt at home having a small child as well. The pool has sunscreen ready, cold water, and towels for your pool session. Even though it didn't have bells and whistles, my daughter still enjoyed the child friendly ledges. We got the one bedroom suite with the kitchen and living room. We had two balconies with a partial view and they were both gorgeous. We stayed at the Diamond Tower and since we requested to be on a high floor, we were given the 30th floor; which was great! The room was clean and spacious. It was unfortunate that rooms don't have balconies. Views were awesome. We had a rental car, so we had to pay the daily $45 parking fee for self-park. Staff do work slow though... there were times where we had to wait a long time for the front desk staff. Overall, we had a good time here at this Hotel.

The service was outstanding- especially Kristina! She saw that I was visiting with my son and she upgraded our room to have a view of the ocean. She also helped me with a couple of issues I had. All the staff was friendly and responsive to any questions. I will definitely be staying here again!

I stayed at this outrigger property 2 nights from March 6, 2026-March 8, 2026…read more When I checked in I was informed since my stay was for 2 nights if I needed to have my room cleaned to let housekeeping know. Once my room became available I dropped off my luggage and then went directly to the beach. When I returned I did notice some areas of concern where the room was not very well cleaned. Instead of calling housekeeping I went directly downstairs to the front desk. Front desk personnel were busy as there were only 2 people assisting the long line of quests. I decided I'll just deal with the room uncleanliness later. Please be advised that I did take pictures. Once I checked out on Sunday, March 8th, I advised the front desk personnel my concerns. The manager Ira listened to my concerns as I showed her my pictures. She immediately apologized and ask that I email the pictures to their corporate office. Which I did once I arrived back to the mainland. In the room there's a finger or toenail clipping on the carpet between the console and couch. Also you can also see that portion of the carpet has not been vacuumed. The clothed bench in front of bed was extremely stained and filthy. So filthy that I covered the bench with a bath towel if I needed to sit down. Also the refrigerator was very dirty. I chose not to put any food items in the fridge because of this. Also the bottom of the toilet is stained with either fecal matter, urine or maybe it's rust. If so, clean it then use caulking. These are the concerns I have with room 403. Hopefully I'll be hearing from upper management in regards to my unpleasant stay in room 403. The best part of staying at this hotel was the show Auana which is located at this hotel. Needless to say I will not stay at this hotel again.

But…read morerecently came here on a recent special occasion for a friend's milestone birthday celebration. It was held in the Waialae Ballroom on a Saturday afternoon with lunch being served for all the guests. What a beautiful location where you can see the lush garden just outside, the pacific ocean was a few yards away when you're done eating, you're free to roam the area and see the beautiful architecture and structure of this fabulous hotel. I was not able to play tourist as this party had to end by 2pm and I had commitments thereafter. But for future hotel guests information, they also have dolphins for you to see. The food here was incredible and of good quality. Good for any type of gatherings of any size breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bartenders and service at the bar was even better! The amount of attention every table was receiving was amazing, glasses were never empty and always started with a full pour. Self parking was completely full, although valet parking service was a better idea. Keep in mind this is a full service 5 star property located in Kahala/Waialae. Would love to be a hotel guest one of these days just to say I've stayed at The Kahala Resort.

Very nice hotel resort on the other side of Diamond Head. found a great rate to come with the…read morekiddos for a little Summer Vacay. nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle in Waikiki. The Kahala bills itself as a 5 star luxury stay. while there are definitely some 5 star attributes to this resort, it falls short of a full 5 star rating. we booked using the Chase Reserve promo which included some great benefits such as hotel credits, room upgrade on availability and early check-in/out opportunities. we arrived a little early, 1pm, but a room wasn't available. they were able to get us an upgrade, however. for a 3pm standard check-in we were only able to get a room at 220p. we booked a room for 4 people, but, they got us a King bed. we were offered 2 rollaways, or move to a double room the next day. we chose the prior. luckily, the room itself was pretty large and well appointed. the bathroom was also big, with dual sinks on opposite ends, a separate shower and tub and a MAGIC toilet! yes, a toilet with a warming seat, senses your rear approaching and lights up and rinses the inside of the bowl, all prior to being used! oh, and it's also got a bidet built in. i think that was the highlight of our room. the tv was conveniently on a retractable mount so could be adjusted as necessary. there was a good sized fridge as well as a Nespresso machine and complimentary water. The resort grounds were immaculate and aesthetically pleasing. the lobby/patio area gave off plantation vibes, similar to the Moana Surfrider. there are in-house dolphins that swim around the pond that guests can interact directly with in the water. there are multiple restaurants on property that range from casual, to buffet to fine dining. THE best part of the Kahala is it's pristine beach front location. just steps from the resort pool, Kahala beach was our favorite of this entire trip. as i mentioned, this was a nice break from Waikiki and this beach is the epitome of non-Waikiki. although it is a public beach, it was relatively peaceful and quiet. the surrounding neighborhood provides an element that is conducive to relaxation and calm. mama and i were able to sit on our complimentary beach loungers and just chill while the kiddos frolicked in and out of both the surf and the pool. the dudes attending to the beach/pool guests were awesome and always ready to help. while The Kahala provided us a great stay, there were a couple points of contention that kept it short of a 5 star resort. the wrought iron balcony railing's white paint didn't quite cover up the rusting going on underneath it. and the balcony dividers that provided perfect privacy from our neighbors, also had rust smattering it. i realize we're in a tropical climate and this is common, but, perhaps a 5 star resort would pay more attention to those details. another issue was trying to communicate with the front desk. we had a 50% success rate with trying to get ahold of someone on the phone. it should not be that difficult. the pool had the ubiquitous sludge that develops when sunblock and water and mass of humanity meet, but, the filtration system should be managing that a lot better. overall, we had a wonderful time at The Kahala. it's definitely worthy of a return visit, regardless of the 5 star shortcomings. we highly recommend this place.
