This place is great. Good value. We got the studio that had two beds and cooktop. Has all the things you need to cook. Rice cooker makes 3 servings. Ice machine on property works well. Large TV with cable. No A/C but the area is generally cool and the room will get cool if you open the windows. Bathroom is updated/modern. check in process is smooth if you come in after 5pm - they provide detailed instructions on text. I enjoyed my stay at the Waimea Country Lodge. I stayed for one night. The lodge is walking distance to many restaurants, Longs, and Foodland. There is a really nice BBQ and gazebo area for eating outside. The room was really clean and functional. The check in staff was top notch. The room came with a fridge and coffee maker. My only complaint is that the bed closest to door was well worn and quite squeaky. My partner stayed on that bed, and said it was uncomfortable. The bed near the window worked fine for me. Overall, a super nice experience, and I will use this hotel when I have future events in Waimea. read more

I spent 2 nights here, really doing nothing but just relaxing and celebrating getting older. Who does that?! I found the Waimea Country Lodge on hotels.com and decided to book this for a birthday weekend in mid September 2022. I believe that it was my first time staying at this property, which is owned by Castle Resorts. The hotel is really a small motel that has about 20 units. I didn't bother to check the address, but my friends dropped me off at the Kamuela Inn nearby, but when I tried to check in and found no lockbox for the keys left for late arrivals, I googled the right address and had to walk 1/2 mile at nearly 9:30pm to get here. I arrived to a quaint motel here in Waimea. I was assigned room 112 for my stay and it was decidedly basic, but comfortable, and most importantly - clean. The only issue, one of my pet peeves, was that the outlets were not near the bed. I always loved that the outlets were near the bed and can charge my phone while laying on the bed. This room didn't happen and had to walk to the bed each time a notification ping. Really annoying, but what can you do. Everything else worked to a tee. Even the television was comforting while I was just lounging and thinking about how it was to get older. It is what it is. The room was good and the bed was kind of hard, but once you move around to get comfortable, it was okay from there. The overall experience here at the Waimea Country Lodge was pretty good, quiet, and casual. I didn't get the pleasure of having someone at the front desk to check me in and out, so I just dropped the room key in the front of the office before heading on my way. There was no notable air condition here, but felt comfortable. While the location is basically in a lovely small town on the Big Island, it's far away from the resort areas of Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa to experience real Hawaiian lifestyle on the Big Island. I enjoyed the ambiance, although the hotel room ambiance is always a good time, especially when you love to travel. I did enjoy the ice machine that was user friendly next to the hotel office. The hotel messages you to ask what your time of arrival to the hotel. If after hours, they would message you a code for their lockbox system, which is pretty basic, but thankfully, most people could operate it, including myself. Its kind of cool to have, so you don't need hotel staff there when it's really self explanitory. For the most part though, I basically spent a weekend traveling that didn't include running a marathon or half marathon, which was new to me. I enjoyed the vibe of the small town motel here in Waimea, although the prices here were kind of high. If you are visiting the Big Island and want to check out the real side of the Big Island, come see Waimea and stay at the Waimea Country Lodge. Prices here can be cost prohibitive, but it's Hawaii and it's magical. The Waimea Country Lodge is located at 65-1214 Lindsey Road in Kamuela. It's about 37 miles from Kailua-Kona international airport, which is about an hr's drive. They accept major credit cards, as many hotels in the industry do. Not sure if they accept cash, but doesn't hurt to ask. As far as parking goes, the Waimea Country Lodge does have a limited amount of parking stalls available. Best bet would be to have a rental car, as bus service is rather limited. I've been told that there's no bus service on the weekends, but you might want to confirm before making travel plans. Its kind of weird having a room key that's not an electronic key card. I believe there are some in Hawaii that still use the old school method. The town of Waimea is comforting and the location is really in the center of town. Can't go wrong with that. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 3.0 stars for the prices. 4.5 stars for the room comfort, 4.0 stars for the bed comfort, n/a for the service. Support local! What a value! Every corner of the room, and even the bbq area with large table and chairs was perfectly clean! Don't be influenced by some of the bad reviews - they are years old and the rooms have been completely renovated since then. And front office service is high quality now. The location is central to the town. On Farmers Market days, the Lodge is just steps away! Parking for the rooms is very convenient. The Deluxe room was surprisingly huge, with plenty of lighting, and the large ceiling fan brings in the cool air from the windows. The windows were all easy to operate and locked easily too. The front office people were friendly, efficient, and were extremely accommodating with a special request I had. Checkin was fast and checkout even faster. The kitchenette was very well outfitted with anything you could want for in room dining. The bathroom was filled with soaps, lotions etc all of which were good quality. My only wish is that the bathroom fan would be operated on a separate switch. I hate the thought of the noise of the fan in the middle of the night! I'll stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

Newly renovated. Clean. Just open the windows for some cool and fresh Waimea air. Everything was good except for two things. The bed was a bit hard and took some getting used to. Also, it was hard to get the blinds to completely cover the windows, especially in the bathroom. Anyone can walk right up to the units and look in the windows, so I'd prefer more privacy, especially in the bathroom. The restaurant next door can be quite noisy since they have outdoor dining, but we couldn't hear the noise when inside the unit. Overall, I'd recommend. read more

March 2024: very enjoyable 3 days in a cute drive in motel. rooms are very reasonably priced. ours had a nice little kitchenette. the bathroom was nicely renovated. most important to us: It was clean. don't come expecting pools and beaches, but if you are looking for a nice place to make day trips from, this will do nicely. many eating options within 5 minutes of walking, as well as a grocery. okay, it's not 5 Star eating. mostly small local restaurants. we would stay here again. one of the reviews I read included a complaint about making the tv work. first, why are you watching tv? second, all hotel tv systems suck. third, they have a laminated instruction sheet on tv use. read more

Stayed at this cute little Motel in the heart of Waimea for a close friends Wedding. It was so comfortable and inviting. I stayed in the one bedroom suite; it had a full kitchen, stocked with cooking utensils and pans. The bedroom was comfortable with king size bed and the living room had two comfy couches that both pulled out into beds. One queen and a full size bed. It's conveniently located right in the heart of the city, KTA, Foodland, Longs, and handful of cute restaurant and cafes are all in walking distance. read more

The room that we were in was nice, wasn't a renovated room but it was good for the price. It was very spacious with 2 king beds. My sister had an adjacent room same style but hers was renovated so it was much nicer. Ask for a renovated room and you'll be pleased. read more

I can't say enough kind words about this Lodge. It didn't seem like much when we first moved here but you can tell someone put a lot of care and resources into sprucing it up in the last few years. We had to vacate our home for termite tenting and it became an almost week long scheduling mess and the hotel staff couldn't have been more welcoming and lovely. I mean REALLY LOVELY. From Brittany at the desk to cleaning team, etc. We felt very lucky to have such a *super clean* (like greatly clean!) room and WiFi, hot coffee, and a flowers-filled courtyard as we dealt with all this other stuff... and that was before our kid got a head cold and sent home from school. But he tucked in to his Lego's and we felt cozy while we worked on working here and finishing everything up so we could go home. But I can't recommend this place enough. It's not extra lavish but if you want a CLEAN, HAPPY, and FRIENDLY place with a decent kitchenette and great bath products? This is your place. read more

Ugh. No bueno. I've stayed here before for business but it's completely different when it's on your own dime. The rooms are clean but small. You have a wonderful view of nothing. Well, Parker School but you don't want to see a school outside of your window, righy? I chose this place because I needed a cheap place to sleep while sight seeing. I'm somewhat familiar with the area so it is close to eateries, shops, and the farmers market, if you are there Saturday morning. I would've liked the stay a little more if I didn't have to wait until 3 to check in and if the lobby clerk seemed more welcoming rather than treating as if she had better things to do with her time. You get free coffee ... in the lobby/office ... in the morning. That's it. There's really nothing else so take care of everything you need elsewhere or, better yet, stay elsewhere. read more

The purpose of our visit to the island was to work on and get things squared away with some property there. We needed a place to stay near Honokaa for a month that could accommodate a wheelchair and found the Waimea Country Lodge. We were fortunate that the room had a kitchenette with a small frig and hot plate where we could keep food and prepare some meals. Waimea had all the amenities we needed. We had to travel to both sides of the island throughout the month so the lodge was in a perfect central location for us. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, we never wanted for anything. The room was kept nice and clean fresh towels were replenished daily. We had a couple guests off and on during our stay and the staff happily accommodated our needs at those times. Through all our travels I don't think I've ever encountered such a lovely, kind and friendly group of people as work at the Waimea Country Lodge. It felt like a home away from home for us and we felt like part of the family, fortunate to have that place to stay. I knew what to expect with the lodge, location, etc and we were not disappointed. We will definitely stay there again when we need to be in that area. read more

The company I work for put us in this lodge for the week for work. It's out dated carpet has cigarette burns and worn out the tub is pretty much stained. Has only a lamp on the night stand, light by the front door and bathroom. No A/C or fan you need to open the window and front door to get some kind of air through the room but then bugs start to come in. The person at the front desk said that they're renovating the rooms. Then moved the night stand to plug in my phone and found a pen, plastic fork, and what looks like potato chips(nasty). read more

I would like to give WCL 3 stars for their aloha, but seriously this property borders on the low side of 2 stars. Mind me we own a vacation rental on another island. So I am familiar with quality hospitality of a dated property. There is only so much you can do to make for the best stay for your guests. WCL could do a lot more and I think WCL would get more regular business with a better reputation. This was the least expensive accommodation available on an airline package, so the saying goes - you expect what you pay for. I came over for business and just needed a bed for two nights. As my family is in the business I won't post badly. If you are expecting a lot, this is not the right place for you. Helpful notes: I will say, there are 4 or 5 roosters on the property - annoying to some people. 1:30am as I write this note, there is crowing going on. You can hear other guests going after them. Note: The front desk has hours. 8am to 8pm. We were able to check in early (9am - we did not need to access the room) as we were not going to be close by at 3pm check in. We were exploring and expected to arrive after 8pm WCL is very conveniently located. Parking is plentiful and easy to get to your room. There are many nice places to eat in the area. Even a farmers market behind the building. Easy to find at the intersection of two Hwys. Contrary to other reviews : Internet was free Hair dryer was available - just ask. Super disappointing. I expected certain minimum standards out of a Castle Resorts property - the website is very misleading and does not convey how dilapidated the place is. As the other review states, they should be ashamed. The rooms are spacious as claimed, but fairly dark, dingy, run down, and smelled a bit funky. Light switches were somewhat inconveniently placed. I don't usually take my shoes off in hotels like I would at home, but I definitely had zero desire to romp barefoot on that carpet. The "complimentary locally-grown coffee" promised is available on a seriously underwhelming commercial style coffee warmer set up in the office. I'll concede it's conveniently located and the staff was friendly, but I felt sorry them given what they had to represent. After staying just long enough to avoid penalty we checked out moved to the *much* better and comparably priced Kamuela Inn down the road a bit. read more

The reason I am rating this lodge 4 stars is because you get what you pay for. If you're looking to stay at a five star hotel, brand new with a pool, spa, and shops. Go to the Hilton at Waikoloa for that and pay 400$ a night. I loved being here because it's close to where my family lives. IF YOU ARE A TOURIST ON VACATION: This might not be the place for you, hence the rest of the reviews written here. My fiancé and I stayed here for vacation for a week from the mainland. If you are understanding that where you stay doesn't need to be fancy then you wouldn't mind staying here at all. I love the country side and that's why we are coming back in September of this year. We had an incident where we had no towels when getting back to the room. The office was closed even though they were supposed to be open. I called the 2 numbers posted and got no answer on one and an answering service on the other. I was not a happy camper. Around 9 that night the manager shows up with towels and a apology. She said she was at a party down at the beach. So she told us that we will not get charged for 1 of the 2 nights and also get a free stay to be used at anytime. My wife called to make reservation and the desk clerk said no problem and that it was mentioned we had a free stay. So my wife booked a date. So we got there today and the housekeeping supervisor (where is the manager) told us the free stay for us was not in th system and that we will have to pay. She finally got a hold of the manager and was told we had to pay and there must have been a misunderstanding. Now I was pissed. We had planned new this day and got SCREWED. So we canceled the reservation and booked a room in Kona. NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. read more

They did the old bait and switch! We reserved a room online for my husbands parents and received an email confirmation with a photo of the room. It looked alright for the money. When we went to check out the room to make sure it was like the pictures (we are caretakers in Waimea at the moment) they showed us a different room. This room was much smaller, weirdly laid out, very dark and dingy, then the one we booked. We talked to the manager and she said if we wanted the room we saw the pictures of then we would have to pay another $50+ per night since it was an upgrade. You must be kidding, I thought. We then called the central reservation line on the website and she said pretty much the same thing. After going back and forth a few times, she hung up on me. We are waiting for our full refund. Granted I only saw the inside of the one room, but it looked like something from the 70's and the paneling on all the room doors was peeling off. The only positive I can say is the girl behind the counter and the cleaning girl were both very friendly! read more

It was a Last minute trip, not sure where to stay yet wē found a place that soothes me and my family, and dam it made us feel like home. Till this very day my kids are asking when will we go back there. And as pleased as we are, we are making it a yearly visit. We were on a 10-day trip of the Big Island and booked a stay at Waimea Country Lodge for our last day in Hawaii. Very disappointed. The words "Country Lodge" is somewhat misleading. Maybe they should be replaced with "Dingy, Creepy Motel." The door to the room was on the outside of the building. The room was dark, smelly and run-down. There was an oscillating fan attached to the wall for your cooling-down convenience. We were so disappointed in the Waimea Country Lodge, after entering the room, we decided to drive to Kona for our last night in Hawaii and stay in a respectable, clean room. The person in the Waimea Country Lodge was nice to us after we told them there was no way we were going to stay there, but they did not refund our money for the room. It didn't matter, it was worth it to get as far away from there as possible. Save your time and money and avoid staying there. read more

The staff is wonderful. Parking is beyond easy. Very convenient for grocery stores gas. Good location for seeing Kona, Hilo, Waipio Valley, Waimea, Kamuela and Hawi areas. The internet is really good but pricey. That being said it is lacking in a lot of areas. Especially the bug and smelly departments. This is my place of choice for this area but certainly not for everyone. It's an acquired taste. Some of the rooms have small kitchens. It's definitely a more traditional type of Motel. The weather is cold/chilly in the evenings which I love. You can see the snow on Mauna Kea. I personally would give it more Stars but it would be misleading. read more

This place was nice all things considered. The rooms are clean and everything is generally well kept although it is a no frills place. You need to pay for internet and there aren't many wall outlets; we unplugged the TV and cable box to charge a laptop and phone but since we didn't watch TV it was no problem for us. I ended up tethering to my phone's internet rather than pay the $10.00 for internet and got decent speeds on AT&T's network. Since this place is higher up the mountain there is no A/C - our room was comfortable without it but for some people this may be an issue. There are food places close by so eating isn't a problem. I would stay here again, though if you want luxury then you shouldn't be looking here to begin with. They fit the bill for a nice, low cost, motel. read more

This is worst lodge experience that I ever had. The shower curtain and the bathroom window curtain have mold and mildew. The bathtub is stained and DIRTY!. The actual hot/cold water knobs in the bathtub are opposite. Tha cold water is the hot water and the hot water is the cold water. And the towels had some kind of stain. Overall, Waimea is beautiful. The next trip i will drive the distance. This is a prime example you pay for what you get!! read more

We're sorry. This old lodge is not a place we wanted to stay. It was old, run down, old furniture and older beds. The tiny bathrooms floor was wet when we arrived. It's as if we stepped back in time to the 40's and entered a twilight zone of a very old run down lodge. We checked out 15 minutes after we checked in. I came to the big island for a conference and instead of paying $240+ to stay at the resort they'd booked, I looked for something cheaper. Well, at almost 1/3 the price, I found this place and it is worth every penny. This is a cheap motel. Do not believe the cute picture on the website, I don't know where they got that. The cable sucks, there's no internet. The woman at the front desk informed me they don't do complimentary coffee any more and there is no in-room coffee service, or even a microwave. There is a refrigerator though. On the plus side, it's quiet, close to the shops and restaurants of Waimea, and cheap. I'd stay here again, if I ever come to the Big Island again (which I won't, but that's a different review). read more

We checked in a little after 3pm on Saturday 9/16/17, the office ladies were really nice had our reservations so no problems there. Got up to our room and it looked clean but when I went into the bathroom there were no bath towels so I figure no problem I'd call the office and ask for some, well no phone in the room okay still no problem I'll just go back down to the office, walk into the office and immediately I get an apology so I'm like okay still no problem. Get towels and go back up.. That evening I go to take a shower, I look down and the bottom of the shower curtain is covered in mold, GROSS! But now I'm already wet so I continue I grab the shower bar and it completely falls off, so now I'm thinking hell I should've signed that $39.99 additional waiver at check in for damages because now the bar came off. So now I'm paranoid and start looking around our room I then notice a crack in the corner of the room window and outlet cover has a hole. great just great. But on a better note the view out of your window is to die for, Waimea is absolutely beautiful the lodge was comfortable and I slept well. As for staying there again yes I would because the other option is either driving back to Hilo or staying on the Kohala coast. read more

Thick, black mold growing on floor of shower for which I was made to wait overnight to have it cleaned. The front desk staff did not seem able to understand basic requests. Don't believe the photos on the website. This is a rundown, tired motel in desperate need of some TLC. Other review says that "staff is wonderful" but only in the friendly way they say "I'm sorry about that" every time you report something wrong. Stayed five nights and every day had to ask for clean glasses, soap, shampoo, etc. Rusty bathroom fixtures, holes in the sheetrock, furniture that has long since given up after too many big mainland bottoms...at the price, Castle should be ashamed of this property or reduce by half. Next time we're renting a house up the hill for the same price. Suggest you do the same or stay in Kona. read more
