We grabbed our free bubbly, the vanilla bath salts for my wife to enjoy later, and proceeded to enjoy the cheese and assorted treats on the outdoor patio overlooking Dana Point. No better way to unwind! Pro tip: NEVER EVER SKIP THE FRESH BAKED COOKIES! The property is the perfect size to remain quaint like a bed and breakfast but big enough that you don't feel obligated to know each person coming and going. I would admit being in our mid 40's, we were on the younger side of guests during our stay, but this was a welcome surprise for us as we were looking for a quiet getaway for the evening for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The room was 212 which is an ADA accessible room but this I believe was provided at the special request of having a bathtub for my wife who values her baths on her getaways! The room faces the parking lot but this is a small sacrifice for what the true payoff was which was the special request... The giant jacuzzi tub which did not disappoint. It was large enough to fit two adults (not that we tried or anything *wink wink). The jets worked great and my wife raved about them. The room came with luxurious robes and slippers and all bath products were either local or unique brand. The room also came with a fireplace that was gas which started with the flip of a light switch. Another beautiful touch. It is always hard to find a bed that is comfortable enough while away from home as we are spoiled by our sleep number at home but this bed did the trick (which most chain or corporate hotels cannot accomplish!). The linens were soft and the room came with extra pillows and blankets on hand without having to ask for more. The complementary breakfast buffet in the morning was not your standard spread. It felt more refined and focused on the details. It was not your scrambled eggs from powder. It was two sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. It wasn't generic underripe fruit, it was perfectly ripe fruit with an assortment of sides. My wife raved about the yogurt and toppings as did I about the oatmeal and toppings. Overall this could not have been a better short 1 night getaway for my wife and I to enjoy away from the hectic everyday life. It truly felt like we slowed down time and the blue lantern Inn accomplished all we needed in having a successful start to our anniversary celebrations.

In terms of location, yes, it is on a busy road, but it is also within easy walking distance to a lot of Dana Point's main attractions, including the Harbor, Del Prado Street, and a lot of restaurants and coffee shops. Comfort-wise the bed was very comfortable and the room was as clean as it could be for an older model hotel. The bathtubs still have twist knibe on the wall for Jacuzzi tub settings, the carpet is older, and the toiletry products are nothing special. Service was excellent with very polite and very efficient Front Desk staff! There is parking attached behind the hotel although spaces are limited and it does cost a per night fee. There is a fairly ample breakfast bar with a waffle station, and they even had gluten-free options, which was impressive. Overall, especially for a staycation or trying not to spend luxury resort prices in a very popular area, we enjoyed our stay as it served our purposes, and we will keep it in mind for the future.

He reserved a suite, so it had a separate living room and a very spacious bedroom. The bathroom also featured a whirlpool bathtub. Lately, I've been completely hooked on the FIFA World Cup, so as soon as we arrived on Friday, July 3rd, I had a great time watching the Argentina vs. Cabo Verde match. The suite had two TVs--one in the living room and another in the bedroom--which made it very convenient and comfortable to watch the game. Breakfast was included with our stay, so we enjoyed breakfast every morning on the first floor during our two-night stay. The breakfast selection was quite good, including waffles, bagels, donuts, sliced bread, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, yogurt, and a variety of coffee options such as mocha, latte, espresso, regular coffee, and decaf coffee. While we were having breakfast, I noticed there wasn't any cream cheese for the bagels. I asked one of the staff members who was restocking the breakfast items, and both the male and female staff members were incredibly friendly and quickly brought some out for us. We really appreciated their excellent service, and my mom left them a tip afterward. Those were the highlights of our stay, but there were also a few things that could have been better. First, as soon as we checked into our room, there was a strange smell inside. Because of that, we kept the balcony door and the windows open most of the time to air the room out. Second, after checking in on July 3rd, we naturally expected our room to be cleaned the following day. Before leaving in the morning to enjoy the recreational activities around Dana Point, my mom even left a $10 tip in the room for housekeeping. However, when we returned that afternoon, the room hadn't been cleaned at all. My brother called the front desk, and they told us there was no housekeeping service on the 4th of July because it was a holiday. We've stayed at many hotels while traveling over holiday weekends, but this was the first time we'd ever been told that there was no housekeeping because it was Independence Day. Later that afternoon, before heading out again to ride the local trolley, I asked another front desk employee about the housekeeping service. Instead of saying there was no housekeeping because of the holiday, the employee asked for our room number and then asked whether we had requested housekeeping that morning. I explained that we hadn't requested it in the morning but had called about an hour earlier, and the room still hadn't been serviced. The employee told us they could at least replace our towels, so we thanked them. As a result, we ended up sleeping for two nights on the same bed without the sheets ever being changed. Another issue I noticed was that the bathroom exhaust fan vent was extremely dirty. Most guests probably wouldn't notice it unless they looked closely, but it stood out to me right away. I felt it was worth mentioning. Those were the two main disappointments during our stay. On the positive side, the hotel's location was absolutely fantastic. Dana Point Harbor Beach was only about a five-minute walk away, making it incredibly easy to get to the beach. Directly across the street, there were plenty of restaurants and shops, including Starbucks, McDonald's, pizza places, Thai restaurants, and many other dining options. The location truly couldn't have been better. I later heard that my brother had considered booking a Marriott or another hotel, but he ultimately chose this one because it offered a spacious suite and was the closest hotel to the beach. Last year in May, we stayed at Murrieta Hot Springs. Although it was quite expensive at around $1,000 per night, the hotel was exceptionally clean, housekeeping was provided even during the holiday, and both the views and overall atmosphere were outstanding. This hotel's location was truly excellent, but I do wish the housekeeping and overall cleanliness had been better. The resort was under major construction at this time and yet we still had a great experience. Resort offers valet and self-parking options. The self-parking is easy as you trade in your ticket for a reusable check-in/check-out card, which makes it easy. They felt a little understaffed for the weekend, but still kept the resort clean. Food took longer than it should and service took longer than it should but food was very good and service was excellent when it happened. Our room was clean and modern and gorgeous. A typical Marriott bed, so a great sleep experience. Air conditioning had the best self-control of any hotel. We've stayed in in a while, which is fantastic. The shower is ample and high so tall people can do as well as small people and had great hot water and pressure. Front Desk also felt overwhelmed and doing the best they could, but it wasn't great in terms of times we had to wait. Overall, we had a surprising stay in an area we've lived in for decades, and will definitely rebook for staycations in the future!

Tonight, however, the service truly stood out. Our server, Jacob, deserves special recognition for going above and beyond. The property was absolutely packed, including a large wedding, yet somehow Jacob never allowed the level of service to suffer. I usually order club soda with my wine, and I don't think my glass was empty for even a moment all evening. Glass after glass, Jacob was there without ever needing to be asked. My wife, my son, and I had stopped by to enjoy some wine before our dinner at Mastro's, and Jacob made what could have been a simple stop into an exceptionally enjoyable experience. Outstanding hospitality is about anticipating a guest's needs, especially when a property is extremely busy, and Jacob demonstrated exactly that tonight. Thank you, Jacob, for making us feel so welcome and for providing such exceptional service. That being said, we truly love The Ritz-Carlton and this beautiful property. The service is always outstanding, and the staff consistently goes above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and cared for. It's one of the main reasons we continue choosing the Ritz for our special family staycations. I just wish this particular situation had been handled a little differently, especially as a loyal Platinum member. And yes, the breakfast is mainly carbs, so I abstained. Also, you have to pay $15 to park every night, which is a little scammy, but hey... The best part of the place is the killer location right near the harbor and Doheny, and for that alone, I can put up with a lot. For the price, I would say it's not that bad at all. It's more than a decent value. C'mon, at this price, you're not going to get the Ritz-Carlton.

I chose to write this review not after I checked into my room to find a poop stain on the toilet seat, not after I smelled the dirty sheets, but after a cockroach ran across my TV screen ruining my elegant entertainment experience... THE DISRESPECT OF THAT BUG! During our visit we had a power outage and an old guy got stuck in the elevator, but the kid at the counter not only fielded a thousand angry old ladies, but also got the fire department to respond very fast. Again, delivering the vibes. Speaking of vibes there's an old guy out front selling crack, and atleast 4, 75 year old hookers available on a daily basis to keep you company on those humid nights. Anyways, yall got a cool spot, it's just dirty. Clean up a lil bit. 2 stars for the fun, but mold infested, stinky conditions.

Gave great personal food recommendations and somehow made the check in process super efficient but also made several great suggestions/recommendations that were tailored to trip needs. The AC works really well and the hotel is very quiet. Only reason it's not a 5 star rating for me is because they don't have a full size fridge and there is no kitchen.. just a half fridge ( bigger than a mini fridge) and a microwave .. oh and an extra sink! Oh and it's not directly in the beach, we would have to drive or walk a little bit. 5 min drive. They do have a bridge down the road that connects to The beach. Our balcony is huge and we have a beautiful ocean view. Looking forward to visiting again

But it's worth mentioning that the hotel is a bit dated. 2) Onsite laundry room: There is a secured laundry room onsite, loads are $6, having this option is always nice bc I hate lugging around dirty clothes. CONS: 1) Bathroom: The room design has the bathroom right by the bed - less than ideal. Also no exhaust, so the bathroom is covered in condensation after a 5 min shower and the rest of the room gets pretty humid too. Thankfully it was cool during our stay so we were able to crack the windows to get air circulation. 2) Breakfast: While having daily breakfast is convenient, the options themselves aren't great. It's pretty much the same continental breakfast everyday: scrambled eggs, turkey sausage patty, a rotating item, oatmeal, boiled eggs, fruit (including too ripe bananas), yogurt, breads (toast, plain bagels, english muffins). By the 3rd day, I ate for sustenance only bc I was already bored of the meal by day 2. 3) Parking: Daily rate is $22. IMO suburban hotels should not charge for daily parking. 4) Messaging: There is no messaging option via the Bonvoy app. That may not have been worth mentioning except they don't give you enough towels, toilet paper, tea, etc for a multi-night stay so we had to call quite a few times.

Got a nice upgrade to an ocean view (generally the even number rooms). Room was spacious and clean. Recently updated. Balcony overlooking the street, trees, and beach to the ocean. Word to the wise, Doheny campgrounds are also across the street so it can get Smokey in the evening with the bonfires. And it's a weird one way road to get in and then to get out you have to go around to get back to Doheny beach. Very walkable though and would be a great spot for the fourth. Pool hours are until 10. Roof lounge hours are a little short. Wed to Saturday but closing at 9 (earlier than the pool). Pool is salt water on the ground floor outside and was nice and empty in the evening.

On arrival day, I checked into a room with a broken AC. I set it to 71 degrees and left for dinner. When I came back, the room was 78 degrees and stuffy. I called the front desk, and they sent up a technician who claimed the air filter had never been changed but that it should be good to go now. Forty five minutes later, the room temperature climbed to 80 degrees. At this point, it was 8 PM, and I knew I was not going to get any sleep. I called the front desk again. It took four tries before anyone answered. A lady finally picked up, said she would send the tech back, and promptly hung up on me. I called back, and she responded with attitude, repeating that she was sending someone up. I explained that I did not appreciate being hung up on and requested a room change, especially since the technician had already told me this specific room had a history of AC and leaky faucet issues. She reluctantly agreed to move me. I am not sure if this is typical California hospitality, but it was very hard to deal with. The new room was nice and cozy. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable, and the pillows were great. However, the shower door never closed completely, leaving the bathroom floor soaking wet. I just dealt with it because trying to get anything resolved felt too daunting at that point. A few other notes: they only service rooms every other day unless requested, which felt odd. There was also a piece of trash, specifically a used Zyn pouch, left in the hallway outside my room for the entire duration of my trip. Aside from a lovely lady at the valet and one helpful person at the front desk, the rest of the staff looked miserable, making the overall vibe completely unpleasant. All in all, this was not a good experience for a Hilton property. I understand this is not the Waldorf or NoMad, but the Hilton brand carries a reputation for reliable service. A simple smile and basic customer care would have gone a long way here.
