Cute room in general and very on trend. It seems like it was renovated recently and is very hip. Something that didn't translate on Yelp tho was how much smaller the bathroom and shower are, like very small but brand new and very clean. The bedroom room is not large either but it was me and my BF and it was fine for the two of us. Would be perfect for a solo traveler. Alkaline water fountain in the courtyard area that you can fill your bottles up with! I have never seen alkaline water fountains and now I'm obsessed. In the room, they have a cool pour over coffee set up, a mini fridge and a microwave, and really lovely products (especially love the soap). But, there are some things that needed attention (broken TP holder, grate in shower) and when we checked out we told woman at office, Donna, and she was great and said she would sent the maintenance worker there right away. Had a billing issue but Donna resolved it promptly. They also have a USB port right by the beds which is great cuz we forgot our connector. Room was very clean and the bed is hella comfortable with a down comforter and down throw pillows. They also have a full set of dishes on the table but if you get take out, know you can have full plates. We just went out for food but were good perks. They also have a super comfy Hammock!!! I truly enjoyed my stay Laguna Beach lodge. I was in town for work, funnily enough opening a hotel that I had ample opportunity to stay at for free as an employee, but once I saw that the lodge was available for booking, I needed to try it out for myself! I booked a king room the night before I arrived and got a thorough text from Chris about my check in time (which I was granted an early 1p check in without even asking!), parking, amenities and how to use the app for my room key. All points were covered and Chris really set up a seamless, contactless experience. The location was ideal, right across from the Montage resort - open to the public. I walked down to the beach most nights and got a good workout while at it, prepare for stairs. I had dinner at the amazing Starfish Laguna next door to the lodge and got groceries at Gelson's at the same plaza. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. My room was beautiful. Ample seating, a cozy dining area, a kitchenette with a full sized fridge and microwave, beach chairs included in the closet, spacious bathroom (for a solo traveling gal) and a comfy bed with extra blankets in storage. Roku tv included for entertainment. My room was on the farther end of the property, where my view was the edge of a hill lol but I honestly loved the quiet, spacious corner room. Despite the lack of a physical key, I felt very safe in this space and barely noticed sounds from neighbors. I would love to stay here at any time! This may be the best place to stay in Laguna. We don't even want to write this review because we don't want this gem to be busier than it already is. This is our third time staying, and each time has been amazing. The rooms are updated, clean, and cozy. They are stocked with beach chairs and umbrellas which are incredibly convenient. Beach access is right across the street down the montage. The pool is the perfect temperature and has an ocean view. The outside areas are lush and green, with tons of seating options to enjoy the weather and ambianceThere are restaurants and a grocery store in the same plaza. Chris is awesome, as he is always available, accommodating, and helpful. Cleaning staff is friendly and helpful. We really don't mind that there's no front desk! Our only complaint is that we wish there were room options able to accommodate our family of 5. It would just be easier to have two beds in one room so we could all stay together. There is a lot to love about this place. Fantastic location with a view of the ocean and not in crowded part of Laguna. Peaceful overall. We got a king suite. The kitchenette is very nice and nearly full sized fridge and freezer very helpful. The bed was quite comfortable. Plenty of pillows. The place has a lot of upgraded things, like nice tile in bathrooms, etc. They provide nice fluffy beach towels and comfortable beach chairs. Plenty of parking. The pool is heated and the pool chairs were very comfortable. There's a filtered water fill station and they even provide glass carafes to fill so you can have cold water. As opposed to chain hotels that want to charge you $5 for bottled water, this was very nice. The few things that could be improved.... - We paid extra for a room with two twin fold out beds. These were chairs that fold out and they were about the most uncomfortable bed that one could imagine. Perhaps okay for a toddler, but not a teenager. Honestly with how much more this room cost than one without the chair bed, they could have done so much better. Rollaway beds with real mattresses would be much better. Or put in a day bed with a pullout trundle. Daybed could be like a couch too. My best tip...don't book this hotel for more than 2 people unless you are bringing your own air mattress. - Coffee: It's pour over. A bit hipster-esque for my taste, but oh well. What's more annoying... Cups with no lids. If you are providing paper cups... Provide lids. - The openkey app as the only way to open the door is beyond irritating. I'm used to digital key from Hilton, but at a Hilton, you can use app and get a regular key too. I understand the model of having no front desk here. Fine. But on the table, they could leave 2 regular plastic keys. I really dislike having to bring my phone to the pool. Plus, after a busy day out, my phone was at like 13% at dinner which made me all worried that I wouldn't be able to get into my room. - The trash can in the kitchen needs bigger bags. The trash can is big enough, but the bag is so tiny it fits like 4 items before it's overflowing. - Ice machine somewhere on grounds would be great. There was a silicone tray in the room but that leaves like 8 cubes a day. Either put more trays or put in an ice machine. Overall, this is a very nice hotel. It's very "instagram" worthy (which did mean there were some wannabe "influencers" wandering around trying always to get the perfect shot), but I do appreciate the care put into landscaping and the overall aesthetic. read more

What a wonderful find in Laguna Beach. Lovely clean room and a great staff. Right across from the beach! Although minimally appointed, it has all you need! My husband and I LOVED staying at the lodge this week! Chris, the owner, is an incredible host! We found our room to be extremely comfy and aesthetically pleasing! We felt right at home. Super quiet facility, everyone was very kind and respectful. We enjoyed some sun by the pool and a late night dip. Loved that our room came equipt with coffee, kettle, fridge and microwave ( for italiano leftovers by the pool the next day, obviously ) The stay was so great we asked if we could extend a day about an hour shy of our check out ( fully expecting a ' sorry no can do ' they said ABSOLUTELY and Chris was so gracious to give us some amazing day of recommendations for things to do like brunch and beach time. Location wise, you're right across from the Montage, and you can VERY conveniently walk across the street, down their ( gorgeously manicured ) steps to the ocean sans the $2k fancy pants room spend. We just spent 5 days in Laguna Beach Lodge and I wish I could give them 10 stars! Absolutely wonderful! If you are looking for a resort style pool, breakfast included, & hot tub, you won't find it here. But, if you are looking for beautiful views, great location, clean spacious beautiful rooms, & great service, this is the one! I could not be happier with our stay. Also, I learned they will be completely redoing the place in Nov (2023) and they do not know how long it'll be until they are back up and running, so hurry and stay here before then! From the 1st room that had water all over the bathroom floor and a tub that didn't drain after the husband showered (and no, he wasn't THAT dirty!!), to the new 'room with a view' (insert huge deep laugh here because in 5 days I missed it completely) that had a sink that didn't drain, from just washing my hands )again, we are not dirty peeps)...there was clearly a KNOWN plumbing issue yet just keep booking the rooms. Both ladies working the front desk were new 'it's my 1st day' or 'my 1st week'--that was why she couldn't print our receipt upon check-out (didn't know how). The entire hotel needs a makeover. Inside and out was last updated in maybe the 50's or 60's? I have no idea how this hotel would pass ANY inspection. Walking on the 2nd floor slanted like it was about to crumble, to the visitor whose room apparently had a bee or wasp problem, so bad the exterminator came out to spray while we were there. The hotel was just an all around head scratcher! The ONLY positive thing I have to say about this hotel is the location. They said it had 'new management' so, for all future visitors, I sure hope they revamp it from the ground up!! read more

They've really turned an older motel into a nicer, boutique hotel. Beautiful, clean room with modern decor and good soundproofing, and great customer service. Chris was really great on the phone and Santi (hope I spelled that right) very kindly accommodated my older parents' requests. Great location across from the Montage, and great building decor/plant life. Note: Water view from the room was okay because PCH took up most of the view, the perk is that we could still enjoy sunset. Next time I would either stay in one of the other rooms and walk over to the Montage for sunset, or pay for another place that is on the water-facing side of PCH. read more

Booked this lodge for myself, boyfriend, and our doggo to escape the boyfriend's family that was staying at our house for a wedding - so needless to say, we were looking for some peace and quiet. The room was clean, though a bit scuffed up on the walls and doors. We loved that there was a little table and kitchenette with dishes in the room, so we could order in to avoid the madness of labor day weekend down in Laguna Beach. However, the room did feel a bit empty and lacked a cozy vibe. Could be the lack of any kind of rug on the floor or that there wasn't any kind of decor on the walls throughout the room, or really any decor at all. We also did not get the peace and quiet we were hoping for. The rooms all surround the pool, and unfortunately there isn't enough sound proofing to block it out. We had 2 noisy neighbors to the right of us (one an older group partying it up and the other a family with 2 screaming toddlers) and we could definitely hear them. The lodge is situated directly on PCH, so you can hear the extra loud cars and motorcycles too. There also isn't a front desk on site (it's contactless check-in and check-out using the Openkey app), so there really isn't anyone to enforce the quiet after 10PM policy that all hotels have. So the first night people were loud at the pool until 1AM, and the older partying group didn't quiet down until almost midnight on the second night. We also lost power for a couple hours at one point, so we migrated outside to chill on the lounge chairs they have outside the rooms and throughout the property. It's location, while amazing that it's situated right across from Montage and the beach, is also a nightmare when it comes to parking and accessing the hotel. It shares a parking lot with a pretty major, busy shopping center, so coming and going from our hotel was always super busy. And while the parking spaces are marked for the lodge with signs, beach goers are parking there anyway, making parking spots scarce. We were always worried about leaving the hotel and not having a space to park upon returning. Only at night, once the beach goers have fled, is the parking ample and easy. Being that there is not a front desk on site, all signs say you can call or text them if you need anything. We had texted upon arrival to ask about the parking situation and did not hear anything back from anyone our entire stay. And for the cost of booking a room at this lodge, I definitely expected a better experience. I'm sure it was marked up for labor day weekend, but it was definitely not worth the $332 per night. We have stayed at so many other amazing boutique hotels for far less that offered far more. One of the few upsides to this place is their pet fee - it's only a $50 flat fee for the stay, whereas most places charge much more and nightly. But regardless, we definitely won't be staying here again. read more

I almost don't want to leave such a good review because I want this place to stay Laguna's secret gem. My daughter and I live in orange county and decided to come to the shore for a weekend and it was magical. I've been going to Laguna Beach all my life and I've stayed in most of the hotels but this might be my favorite. The rooms are beautifully updated and the hotel still has an old school 1950s vibe. The location could not have been better. Thanks to our little kitchen, we were able to get food from Gelson's next door and eat whenever we wanted. The fact that we were directly across from the Montage and the most beautiful beaches in Southern California was everything. And Chris the owner is awesome. Check-in is super easy and you can easily stay here without running into another person. The only thing, cell phone reception is poor for all carriers but I was OK with that. This is the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. I CANNOT believe they rent these rooms out... and for the price that they do. Rooms smell of mold, are dirty and have furniture from 60 years ago. They do have a beautiful re done room on AirBNB which I am assuming they get good reviews from. It's also rented out at a cheeper price which I find odd. Staff was friendly and when we checked in-- the front desk is updated and VERY cute. Upon are arrival to check in we had to wait 15 minutes to have someone check us in. There was no one working at the registration desk. My wife had to walk into the backroom to find several employees chatting that could not help us. They charge us extra $25.00 to let us check in 2 hours early after the person working the desk said our room was ready. The room was ok but the bathroom was very small and TV kept buffering so it was hard to watch it. There is a $20 per day resort fee and we were perplexed what this included as there was no phone in the room, newspaper, etc. The pool was not clean and all the lounge chairs were cover with leaves. You have a great happy hour Asian Fusion next door, CVS and a pizza place if one is inclined. The pool is inviting and set up with pillows and lounges. We will be coming back. Cell phone service is not great but Chris told us to switch to Wifi calling and it worked. read more

The room was above and beyond perfect and reasonably priced. Roomy with a deck and view of the ocean. Beach chairs were there if you didnt bring any. Everything was updated clean and comfortable. Went here with my husband prior to him getting deployed. The front desk employee was nice but, felt like we spent so much money staying here when it's basically a high end Motel 6. Rooms are small, you only get the very basics(two towels) no robes, no jacuzzi or bath tub. It truly does not have the ambiance of a hotel for the money you are spending. It's far from downtown Laguna and not very close to the beach. Will not being staying here again and sad this was my last vacation with my husband prior to him being deployed. read more

4 stars for location and best beach- just across from the montage. Beach access is the best- given the montage keeps it clean n looking beautiful. Lodge gives u beach chairs n towels to take. Great for walking in the morning- beautiful walking path. Climbing rocks and seeing seals, also whales and dolphins if u come during the eight months. There is a cvs, Gelson's and eateries just steps away. You can spend your days at the beach and go into town in the evenings. U can also take a walk to all the other Beaches along the way. 3 stars for the rooms- If u want luxury then pay to stay at the montage. This is a lodge n looks like a beach bungalow. Rooms are decent n meant for a base camp. Breakfast is minimal but does the job. I stayed in rm. 223 which had a distant view of beach n was spacious. Rooms have not been updated but r clean. ***Update: March 2021*** The owner reached out to us to apologize for the awkward situation at the restaurant and insisted he reimburse us for the dinner we paid for. He didn't have to do that. Thank you Chris and we will always refer your place to stay! ********************** The great - ideal location as Treasure Island Beach is less than a 5 minute walk across from the hotel, and you have immediate access to CVS Pharmacy and a Gelsons Market just outside the hotel. In the complex of CVS you'll also find a pizza joint, Starfish Asian fusion restaurant, La Sirena Mexican Grill, and O Fine Japanese Cuisine. Hotel is nestled between some expensive homes and expensive hotels so it's a gem of a find for the value. The rooms are nice and newly renovated. After our second night the owner Chris asked us if we wanted to upgrade to one of his newer rooms that was just finished that day, which was 1.5 times larger and included a kitchenette for no extra charge so of course we said yes. There was nothing wrong with our original room btw. The rooms are equipped with the OpenKey tech that allows you to unlock your room and the gates with your mobile phone app. The rooms do not come with a safe to lock some of your items though. The owner Chris is super responsive and goes out of his way to accommodate your needs. Overall my fiance and I felt that we were lucky to find this place for such a great price considering what was in the area regarding hotels and other lodges. We did have an awkward situation happen. When we checked in Chris asked us if we'd like to have dinner at his Italian restaurant and that it was "his treat". Again, just like the upgraded room at no charge, of course we said YES! He followed up with us the night before our reservations, and because we wanted to make sure we heard him right we asked him again if dinner was on him and he said Yes! So naturally we were feeling blessed that we found a beautiful lodge, beautiful location, everything you need is at the complex next door, and now we were going to enjoy one of the best rated Italian restaurants in Laguna - Ristorante Rumari. We get to the restaurant and mention to the hostess and our waiter that Chris set up our reservations and that dinner was on him. They said "Oh! Great, friends of Chris! We'll seat you here." The view was amazing with the view of the beach and sunset (see additional pics), AND the food was absolutely amazing and my fiance and I are Italian cuisine snobs, LOL. Everything was top notch, from the wine, to the appetizers, the entrees, and even the dessert. However, when they brought the dessert over they said "And here's your dessert complements of Chris!" Here we are having an amazing sunset dinner, and then we were caught in an awkward position. I had to ask, "So the dessert is on Chris, but not the rest of dinner? Because, Chris told us dinner was on him." The waiter responded, "No sir, only the dessert is complementary of Chris." In that moment, I was initially peeved, because I wouldn't have made the reservation had Chris not asked us and convinced us that dinner was his treat, because it's his restaurant. I looked at my fiance and she was looking happy so I didn't want to kill her vibe and just let the whole thing go and paid the bill. I still gave our waiter a big tip, because he was awesome and entertaining. Like I said, I didn't want to kill the happy vibe, but it sure was extremely awkward. If you decide to stay here, and "dinner is my treat" is mentioned, then maybe get that in writing lol. Other than that Chris was cool, and I still recommend staying here especially for the value and location. We plan to be back here in August for another getaway. Hope this review helps! We were really surprised at the low cost of our stay. This is a very nice, clean, comfortable motel in a wonderful location! Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious. The TV has a large screen and all the connection ports are easily accessible. The grounds are nicely landscaped and maintained. Very easy access to the beach with wonderful ocean views from the motel. Plenty of free parking. Some aspects of the room are due for an update, but I believe the property is going through a remodel phase and maybe our room has not yet been updated. It was still very nice. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! STAY AWAY! Stayed with my mom there...we booked on Hotels.com which promised a hot tub in the room and a promo code for use at check out, neither of which existed. It cost us $135 for one night and let me tell you right now IT IS NOT WORTH IT! Motel 6 is nicer (seriously). Not to mention get this, THE SHEETS WERE DIRTY!! NOT EVEN WASHED!! it was disgusting so we ended up sleeping on top of the beds. Oh and I hope you like a 1970's TV. For breakfast there was bagels and kiddy cereal. This hotel has a terrific location, the staff was wonderful, free breakfast, nice pool area,but our room had serious issues. 1st it smelled old and musty, the furniture was worn out and smelled like a garage. The bathroom had no latch on the shower door, and no water pressure. The table under the TV had visible chips and missing laminate. There are visible stains on the ceiling of unknown origin. The carpet was worn and smelled of something unpleasant. This is room 216. Be warned! read more

Nasty dirty roach and mice infested no customer service and they don't let you cancel because they are desperate for people to stay there. We had decided to do a little weekend getaway with our girls, so we booked a night here. Super great location! Right down the way west of here is shopping and dining areas galore. Just a heads up though, pretty pricey dining areas, pretty upscale. And also, that the free trolly only runs on weekends (it will take you up and down PCH). I wish the front desk person told us that when we asked for info on that cause we would have taken it yesterday (Sunday). It rained much during our stay here. Kinda made it a challenge to find stuff cause there are many hills and wounding about when driving. But the pool was still open at the hotel and it was slightly heated. Oh! And the beds are extremely comfortable! So it was totally fine being inside just enjoying one another. The complimentary breakfast was cute on Monday. Bagels, coffee, small cereal and pastries. Not much sitting, but not many guests eating so we definitely got to sit. Cute and cozy I'd say, overall. Especially the view from this spot. You can definitely see the ocean! Best part is that when we requested being near the pool, they place us in a spot directly in front of the pool door! That was really awesome. Cause then we can feel the location vibe which is nice. We'd requested an early check in time but when we got to the hotel at 1:15 we were told that we'd be lucky if it was even ready by 3pm. We left to check out the town and kill some time while we waited. The area was very pleasant and sweet. We got back to the room at about 4:30 and the guy said we were in luck cause they'd JUST finished up the room. The following day we woke up, showered (the shower was hot and cold at the same time) so was a little challenging to figure out right temp. My BIGGEST concern was breakfast! My 5yr kid ate into a danish and we later realized it had mold on it. I showed the manager, he apologized and offered 20% off room. Rather reluctantly I will add. My daughter is allergic to penicillin. So mold is no bueno for her. She got sick on the car ride back to AZ. I told the manager of her allergy and he seemed not at all concerned. He gave me his card and bid me farewell. I will never stay here again. And urge you to never eat the food there. I watched the cleaning lady gather up the remaining breakfast items for the next day. During early June my husband and I stayed at the Laguna Beach Lodge for four days. We were in Laguna to celebrate our anniversary. The front desk representative, who checked us in upon arrival, was welcoming, very helpful, and gave us a lot of much needed information. The room we checked into was clean. Though there was a kitchenette in the room, we were disappointed to learn that we were limited to one packet of coffee per day and we were limited to four creamers and a very small select amount of sugar, which included sugar-free (which we do not use). In spite of asking for only granulated sugar, we were informed that staff could only provide the pre-selected sugars and supplies. Though our room was cleaned daily, it wasn't cleaned until 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. each day. That was the time we needed to be in our room to prepare for our evening excursions. The location is close to good restaurants and close to the beach. A large family checked in the second night of our stay and allowed children to run up and down the stairs and across the balcony well into the late hours of the night. Hidden gem! I think we rented virtually every room for a wedding that took place across the street. Everyone loved the location with view of the ocean across the street and restaurants, a CVS, and Gelson's grocery store next door. The new owners have breathed a fresh, hip vibe into the space with some amazing upgrades to the rooms. It's has great outdoor space where guests gather for the free breakfast. Staff is gracious and accommodating always with a pleasant smile. This little treasure is perfect for a beach get away. Didn't even need a car. Everything is in walking distance and there is a free trolly that runs in front of the hotel to more options in the downtown area of Laguna Beach. Can't wait to see the place once all renovations are complete however I'd still return without the upgrades because of the hospitality, location, and vibe. read more

The Lodge isn't the most luxurious place to stay in Laguna Beach, but it is everything you need at a good rate. The property is very aged, with some minimal updates, but is pretty clean. There is an outdoor pool in the central courtyard. You can find the ice machine here too. The hotel offers free continental breakfast from 6am-9am. The Lodge is directly across the street from The Montage, which is a high end resort. Guests of The Lodge can access the beach through Montage, which is a great perk of the location. The Lodge is pretty close to the main strip, where the shops and restaurants are, but a little far to walk. read more
