It is full of some really amazing scents that you notice the second you walk in. There are premade items as well as empty bottles so that you can make your own signature scent. The very nice lady had us smell around 400 different scents and choose the ones that appealed to us the most. Then we had to choose how we wanted it- in a room spray, body spray, Cologne , lotion or shampoo. I think there are others but I can't remember. We chose the body spray. For about $25 we had our own signature scented body spray! A month later I'm still loving it. What a fun gift this would make, or a fun place to take the teens for a few hours :) The only downside was, I think some of the scents were expired, as they were definitely not a good scent as they should've been, but I didn't mind since there were so many others to chose from :) we will be back!

I can do the makeup basics but I'll never be one of those people with a flawless face who always looks put together. Despite this, everyone in Sephora is always friendly and willing to answer questions. The store is always well staffed and if you need help finding the right color or product there's always someone around to help. I recently went in looking for a new face wash because the one I've been using and loving isn't cruelty free. They sent me home with 6 samples to try so I could find the right replacement. The Sephora Play box is a great way to try new products and get a little more adventurous if you're like me and always stick to one or two items/looks. I also love their return policy: you can return anything at any time for any reason. I'd love to see Sephora make their own products cruelty free and carry more cruelty free brands in store. As such a large name in the beauty business they have the platform to make a real difference.

Seeing Katrina, the hair stylist, is a piece of self-care that I won't sacrifice! There are a multitude of reasons I will follow Katrina wherever she goes. My hair always comes out gorgeous, making me feel really great and getting compliments. Katrina listens to what I want and gives suggestions based on my hair type. I can bring in photos and leave really satisfied, but sometimes I also go in with no idea what I want to do that day and she totally helps me figure it out. I've been seeing Katrina for 2 years (!) and I've done haircuts, undercuts, traditional hair color/balayage, and fantasy hair color (pinks, purples, teal). I'm currently playing around with the idea of extensions... Who knows. It's fun to feel comfortable enough with the person styling your hair to be able to try new things. The Salon Z location is great. It's right on Monona Drive, and has a parking lot for convenience. Once you're settled in, you can enjoy complimentary tea or coffee and snacks if you're in for the long haul with some hair color. :) Katrina's great whether you love to chat it up or need a more relaxed quiet vibe on any particular day. I have referred many of my friends to her and I don't know anyone who's not been completely happy!

Where Claire's appeals to middle and elementary school girls, Icing was half a step up from there. The owner of this salon is now relocated in Colorado and she has her sister taking clients, at a half-price discount. Well this is where I made my major mistake: thinking that DISCOUNT face tattoos were a remotely good idea. I was wrong! The pictures say it all. The sister attributed it to swelling and healing and quickly offered a free follow-up session. Thanks but no thanks! Would you go back to a restaurant that gave you explosive diarrhea food poisoning?? But instead of explosive diarrhea I have a FACE TATTOO that 2 technicians at different salons have told me it will be very difficult to correct. Specifically the inner corner of my left eye is so botched that I will need to just wait for it to fade. There is no shape to correct it without giving me extremely thick eyeliner. I don't want extremely thick eyeliner so I'm going to need to live with the visual proof of my frugal foolishness on my FACE for the next 2ish years. I've since learned there are many places in the Madison area that will do upper eyelash enhancement. Find them! Go there! You get what you pay for.
