Walgreens brings back memories of my very first official job using my Social Security number! It was a Walgreens in the Lauderhill Mall in Lauderhill Florida. I was in high school and my parents said if I wanted to travel to Europe and go to college I better get a job. Haha I worked organizing the merchandise after customers messed up the displays and I ran the register at check out. Back then Walgreens had the soda fountain with a counter and stools and the booths for restaurant seating too! I wish this one did! There goes Marianne telling stories. These are the memories I had when I was happy to find a Walgreens in Manhattan. I knew of one other in my hood but it closed. Walgreens purchased Dwayne Reade Pharmacy Stores but it's definitely not the same as being in this true Walgreens location. They have a huge Hallmark department. I didn't find calendars for 2022. I spoke to the nice store manager and she said maybe they did sell them online but they don't decide. For Hallmark store merchandise the Hallmark Company stocks their merchandise. We talked about her job, she's been with Walgreens three years and is happy working for them. I did really feel for her and the other employees as it was a very hot day and the AC in the store was broken. Needless to say I looked around and then hit the door. I had heard there was a Walgreens in this area. I am so glad I accidentally found it to bookmark and review. I know I will definitely return. Walgreens in general but in this particular case I'm writing specifically about the Walgreens located at 1328 2nd Ave in Manhattan. I renewed a prescription through the automated phone system, I was told to pick it up anytime after Thursday 12/18. I went to pick it up and was told "we don't have it". To me that was unacceptable. The fix suggested by both the cashier and then the pharmacist was to tell me to "call around and see if you can find it somewhere else". REALLY?!?! That should be the stores responsibility. The pharmacist then had a complete mental breakdown because I was frustrated and demanding answers. Can you imagine that, I was frustrated because my medication (which I'm required to take to stay healthy) wasn't available and the staff's attitude was basically "not my problem". After the pharmacists mental breakdown, I was ignored. Going to Walgreens for prescription medication is literally EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE!! The company has no sensitivity to customers and the mental anguish one goes through when they are unable to get a medication that a customer NEEDS and was promised. Not only is every pharmacist at the 1328 2nd Avenue location in New York inept at their job (scary since they are doling out medications), it's clear that Walgreens does NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS HEALTH. I would urge anyone and everyone to not enter that store. I'd be remiss if It didn't mention that while I was having my issue with the pharmacist, someone inserted themselves (who i believe was an off hours employee) and asked if "I wanted to take it outside". This is a two part review. One for staff administering the covid vaccine, and another for Walgreens. For the covid vaccine, both times the person giving the injection was kind, masked, efficient, and very pleasant. Shot 2 was given by Isabella who did an excellent job. She even took me earlier than my scheduled time and set my mind at ease while giving me the shot. Isabella and the first technician could not have been nicer and shots were painless. Thank you to Walgreens for providing this service. Walgreens has now announced that masks are optional, which is in accordance with the CDC ruling. However, if a person is getting a vaccine, safety measures ought to be in place as they would be in a doctor's office where masks are still worn. About half of the people in the store were unmasked, including the security guard at the front door, random staff members, and shoppers. For this reason, even masked, I did not feel safe waiting in the store 15 minutes after being vaccinated, and chose to wait outside instead. I wish Walgreens would reconsider this policy while offering vaccines. read more

Quick update - the staffers were undergoing the holiday transitions, but the biggest obstacle to their business now is that massive construction building for the 2nd Ave Subway sitting outside their door blocking the entire city block. I tried to get my prescription of a controlled substance filled at this Walgreens because I am temporarily living around the corner and they flat out refused because it made them "uncomfortable" even though it's a valid prescription that I have been getting filled at a different Walgreens for years. They spoke to my doctor and everything and still refused. And when I called them to discuss the situation with them they put me on hold for an hour. As if the situation wasn't aggravating enough for me, the staff was rude as well as being unhelpful. This one experience has so turned me off I will be considering changing my insurance just so I don't have to deal with Walgreens and their customer service again. read more

This is the pharmacy to go to if you want to die or stay sick. What is the deal here?! Months ago, They were closed for a couple of weeks with a sign saying you could pick up your prescription around the corner- it was not true, the referred pharmacy had to transfer the prescription and you would have to wait and if it was a controlled substance it couldn't be transferred. Ever since their impromptu lengthy closure I have been in a number times, at least 6 times and the pharmacy is closed for no reason. I asked a store staff member why they were closed "this time" and he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Yesterday I went to pick up my prescription and again they were closed, I asked the security guard if they would be open tomorrow and he said yes, 9-6. I have repeatedly called today and they're not picking up so I assume they're closed once again. I wonder how many people have missed their insulin, blood pressure medications, and medications that have withdrawal symptoms. I've transferred my prescriptions to a different store at this point except for 1, which was my doctor's error - and then there's the rude pharmacy staff! I went here for a few years and it was never great- but now it seems the city should shut them down for withholding medications that people depend on...and clean your filthy store, turn on the air and teach your staff some basic manners. read more

I have lived in the building above this store for many years and have never experienced what I experienced today. I am in this store about 5 times a week. There was clearly a sign saying that Vitamin Water was 3 for $3 with card. I picked up six from the shelf and when I got to the register they refused to honor it. I asked for the manager whose name was Chris R. He said that the ones I got were not on sale. I asked him to please show me the ones that were on sale and he said. "I know what we have in the store and the ones you got were in the wrong place." I asked him to walk with me so I could show him the sign but he refused. There were at least 12 signs saying that Vitamin Water was 3 for $3. He could have shown me the "mistake"I was making but he was really rude. I have two photos which show all Vitamin Waters on sale but I cannot post them for some reason. He said rudely, "If I give you the price would you be happy?" NO! This Walgreens opened the day I moved into my apartment across the street and it became like my second home. Sometimes I would have to go in there three or four times a day. The cashiers and pharmacists were super nice and helpful. The problem with this Walgreens is that it doesn't have as much selection as other Walgreens or other drug stores in the city and it was often out of items we needed. It really is just the same as every other Walgreens just not as big. The staff at checkout could be friendlier. They have good selections considering the size, but I'm still a fan and use this as my photo center. Prices are fair and it's 24 hours, so when you desperately need that 3 am face wash or 4 am frozen dinner, you're covered. read more

1328 2nd Avenue Walgreens in NYC the security guard closed the store 10 full minutes early with people in line still checking out on Friday august 20th 2021 and told my husband and I to go home and wouldn't let us in. 10 minutes before they're supposed to close. I live on this block, and the sheer convenience lures me in from time to time. I'm always hopeful, but WITHOUT FAIL there is a long snaking line and only one or two registers open. No matter the time of day - it's pretty magical. Unclear why they don't call for more support in the front, as there are always a few more employees milling around. Also, the photo printer is broken, so my prints came out all streaky and oddly colored. They gave me a full refund, but not without some bellyaching on my part.... I just went there this evening. I gave the cashier a coupon. She rung up my order while looking at the coupon in her hand. Despite this fact, she failed to credit me, and when I pointed it out, she replied that I should have told her about the coupon that she had in her friggin hand. Rather than deal with the credit herself, she made me wait for the manager, who seemed stoned. He keep asking for the coupon and just gazed blankly at me while he struggled for another 10 minutes to figure out my credit. It's a Walgreens, keep your expectations in check. Pharmacy is slow and the assistants are annoying girls that think its funny to chase off customers by telling them the wait will be long. Seriously, I've watched this happen. My biggest gripe is the HEAT!!!! In the summer its HOT, in the winter, it's HOT. I think the manger is from warmer climates and prefers it that hot but I can't last more than 10 minutes sometimes. And don't buy any chocolate here because the heat causes it to degrade.
