This is one of the worse Walgreens I've been to. Annoyances with this store: 1) What's listed as in stock online doesn't match what is in store. This goes both ways of online saying it is not in store, but it actually is in stock. And the other way where online says it is in stock but it is not once you get to the store. 2) When you try to get a price match to a cheaper online price, they won't price match and instead tell you to buy online and select that same store pickup to get the lower price, essentially just wasting your time since you get the same result of lower price. 3) When I've needed to drop off FedEx packages, 50% of the time I'm waiting 10+ minutes while no one comes out to the Photo area to do the scan despite the cashier announcing over the store audio that customer assistance is needed in Photo area. read more

This is a convenient stop (open 24 hrs) when I'm on the go. It's neighbors with Trader Joe's so it makes things easier when you're doing last-minute shopping or errands before a road trip/beach day. I've gotten my passport photos done here and they are quick and reliable. The staff have been completely reasonable during all of my visits. I can't speak for the rush hour/staffing since I try to avoid stores at those hours but I've been satisfied with the customer service each time. read more

Came in for shampoo, deodorant, and toothpaste. Every item was locked up. Had to wait a long time each time I wanted an item. I will never shop here again. I'm not sure what it is with Walgreens pharmacies. Does management ever read reviews? Our prescription was sent to our home pharmacy and due to being out of town I called 3 alternative Walgreens and all were incredibly terrible experiences! First, I called Menlo Park location and was put back in queue over and over again until someone hung up on me after being on hold for 15 min. Then, I tried to send my medication to the Palo Alto location and found out later that they closed at 5:30! So much for open 24/7! So, I tried again sending the prescription to the San Carlos location at 7:15pm tonight and a pharm tech confirmed the medications and told me it would be ready in 90 min. We arrived at 10:00pm and the pharm tech told us 1) they couldn't find our prescription 2) when they finally found it and they were only able to fill 2/3 things 3) lastly, they told us one medication didn't have the exact concentration so we needed to double up. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. NOT ONLY THAT, WE FOUND OUT THAT THE SAFETY SEAL WAS PUNCTURED. Called back to address the issue to later find out that they dispense and mix the medication with water upon receiving the order thus puncturing the safety seal. Never heard of this practice before! And even if so don't you think it's important to inform the patient of the process!? It's CRAZY how they haven't caught a malpractice lawsuit yet. Walgreens, you need to get your shit together. Im truly so agitated and will never use Walgreens Pharmacy ever again and will let my friends and family know to never use them as well. Terrible management. read more

What could be improved? Hire people that work in the pharmacy that at least have some knowledge of medications, and what a specific medication treats, along with how to spell the name of the medicine and also the name of the patient that the medication is for. Today was the worst experience I've ever had where the person answering the phone got not only the name wrong after spelled it very slowly but the person he referred to as not having any Rx's on file passed away years ago and the 2 names are nothing alike. this ended up being a half hour call because of having to be transferred to someone else to find out, yes the Rx was there. The pharmacy managers have to train these folks who work in the pharmacy or serious mistakes will be made. I'm just thankfull that i don't use Walgreens for myself or my clients. they get one Star for being open after hours. However, the drive-through pharmacy takes 15 minutes per vehicle to fill a prescription. The line inside the store was 20 people long and is on a regular basis. Avoid this place at all cost. WORLDS WORST PHARMACY. These people move so god damn slow, they don't give a SHIT about you. My medication got sent here and I've now been 3x to try to pick it up, no luck. First time- tried the drive through around 8pm. Sat there in a line of cars for 2 HOURS. 2. HOURS. And only 2 cars were helped. I didn't even make it to the front of the line. I left obviously as it was now 10pm on a work night. Second time- came in around 6:30pm and went inside in person. Sat there for about 45 minutes and they were still with the same person the entire time. I figured I'd leave as there were 3 more people in front of me and I didn't plan on being there all night long. One guy working was just sitting there on his phone not helping anyone. He kept looking at us then not doing anything. Honestly so frustrating. I hate this place. Figure it out. I honestly wondered if they were making the medicine back there. Who knows maybe it's made to order and the guys in the back measuring and pressing the pills together. Eh, that would probably be faster than these assholes. Guy just doesn't give a fuck. go someone else, if your pills are sent here refill them somewhere else and make these assholes send them back. It's not worth your time going here. read more

GIFT CARD FRAUD enabled by Walgreens. I purchased multiple gift cards at Walgreens for family members. Multiple family members reported that the code number for these cards was missing! Upon very close examination, we noticed that enclosing envelope had been tampered with. Something you wouldn't notice while you're purchasing them. Even worse, Walgreens refused to refund my money!!! This means that Walgreens is participating in fraud against consumers. Attorneys take notice: this is a class action law suit opportunity. I won't be shopping at Walgreens from now on. I'll be transferring my prescription to another pharmacy. I advise you not to buy gift cards from Walgreens. 4 stars for the cashier I interacted with today. Nice efficient person. Good prices on Covid-19 home tests (about $10 each). 2 stars for the experience of trying to get a Covid-19 PCR test today. I arrived 10 minutes before my appt and there were 6 cars in front of me (in the drive-thru pharmacy line). After 10+ minutes they processed one person. As the cars pulled up, I pulled out and went inside to buy a home Covid test (with a N-95 mask on). I also went to Trader Joes and did some shopping. Came out and the car that was in front of me for the PCR test still had three cars in front of him. So beware, you may be waiting for over an hour if you use this service. Ick. read more

This is the worst Walgreens. The pharmacy is the slowest ever even when there are few to no customers in line. How is it possible to be so slow?? It it takes 20 minutes to service a single customer, something is operationally wrong. But it's not just the pharmacy, photos is also horrible slow and unattended. We had appointments for covid shots and waited with others who were ahead of us. It was nearing 6pm we were the last to get the shots. We sat next to the door where they gave the shot, but at exactly 6pm, the asian lady ran out the door, making no eye contact with us and pretending she didn't see us. We thought she may have went to get more vaccines or something, but she never returned. Pretty clear she knew we were there, but didn't say a word and left. It was quitting time for her and didn't say anything to us. She's out of there. We waited some more for her to return but she never did, and after a long wait, had to go to the desk and told them we had appointments. being near by, doctors tend to send prescriptions to this pharmacy...after a few visits, i will nearly have a panic attack when a nurse or doctor even mentions this location to send a prescription to...even with 1 or 2 people in line, i have experienced over an hour or longer wait...the worst was when reaching the counter and trying to get a prescription after providing my name...ended up just standing there for over 30 minutes...after waiting longer, i had to interrupt another staff to ask what is taking so long because i never saw the person that was helping me at the counter...they informed me that the staff went to lunch...they took my name and information and looked like they were going to get my prescription, but left for lunch??!!@#...does that make any sense....been here multiple times and it has always been the same...starting to think walgreens has some serious issues...had similar issues at san mateo walgreens, but thought it was like that becuase it was next to so many hospitals...starting to think it is a walgreens issue... read more

All the reviews about the pharmacy being terrible are accurate. "Is it really that bad?" Yes, yes it is. Whether you're standing in line inside or in your car for the drive through pick-up, expect to wait 5-10 minutes MINIMUM per person ahead of you. I recently went at night, think it would be less of a mess (I was wrong). I had ONE car in front of me and still had to wait 15 min. I wanted to leave but someone was behind me already. The guy in front of me was visibly frustrated, often waiting a VERY long time to get an update while an employee looked for his prescriptions only to find out it was delivered to the wrong address. The guy left again to check for more info (again, taking a long time and seeming very disinterested in helping) so the driver sped off, literally running the stop sign because of how mad he was. Was that the right thing to do? Absolutely not. Do I understand his frustration? Yup! I take medication for my mental health and I have to be consistent. I received a text saying it was ready to be picked up, after having it be out of stock for a few days. After this whole ordeal with the guy driving off, the woman who helped me (she swapped with the guy) said nothing was ready/in the system. Coooooool. I looked into it, and guess what! They cancelled my prescription :)))) no email notification or text about that. So at this point it's 1+ week of no medication. I tried calling, and kept having someone pick up, then put me back on hold and repeat for 20 minutes only to lose hope. Im going to ask my psych/doctor to never send things here for me, or anyone else. This Walgreens better be careful, people's livelihoods are at stake. read more

The pharmacist on duty on Wednesday evening/Thursday morning, February 12/13, was a hero. There was a communication problem between Mills ER and this pharmacy, resulting in no prescription at this pharmacy for my friend who had broken bones hours earlier. No other pharmacies were open for several hours, which would not be OK. Her pain was severe. He problem-solved with Mills ER, getting a drug that worked. He was tireless and patient as Mills was overrun with serious cases that night. I was very tired and stressed from my friend's accident, and his problem-solving helped me and my friend at a time of real duress. Thank you so much. read more

Received a call at home, my prescription is ready for pickup. I went to the pharmacy to pickup. I waited in line for my turn. When it was my turn at the counter, I showed my ID and said "pickup". She punched in some data in the computer and walked away to look, came back to the computer and walked away again. Still looking. Long story short. I stood there for at least 15 or more minutes while they walked back and forth. Finally telling me someone is filling it, will be a little bit. They could of told me, have a seat and we will call you. And they could of taken the next person in line. Two people left the line because they got tired of waiting. Everything in the store is way overpriced. I don't know how they make it. Sorry to say, I will NOT miss them when they close. read more

This pharmacy went down in last few months. You get message that your prescription is ready and you go to p/u. Well, you have 2 choices: drive through of walk inside. They both take about the same very long time. The walk in has advantage over drive in. You can leave if you change your mind (waiting time can be 2 hours +, I'm NOT kidding)! I've been going to this pharmacy at this location for quite a few years, and in the last few years, it has really gone downhill. The service is slow. Really slow. Every time I pick up a prescription that is ready, I end up waiting between 45-50 minutes. Even the drive-thru pharmacy isn't any better. For whatever reason, while they have two lanes, only one lane has been open for the last 4+ years. Now that they also do drive-thru COVID tests, the line is routinely backed up to the street. I've consistently waited 45-80 minutes in line at times. I thought I had seen the worst of it, but Walgreen's again has proved me wrong. Today, I had to pick up an urgent prescription for myself, and because I was sick, I wanted to avoid going inside and instead opted for the drive-thru. However, I found out that Walgreen's has now closed the drive-thru lanes after 6:30 PM until 9:30 AM the following day, forcing everyone to go into the store and wait in a longer line inside. Not sure how that helps people who are sick, disabled, or are in a hurry. I'm not wasting my time, energy, and money at this chain anymore. If you need to drive twice as far to go to a functioning pharmacy, you'll probably save more time than if you went to the San Carlos Walgreens. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't be like me or my family. Drive 30 min out of your way to avoid this cluster of a pharmacy. I don't understand why this pharmacy can't get their act together. Both the drive through and walk-in are always horrendously long. Here are a few of our experiences. My wife was trapped in the drive up line for over a hour because a car in front refused to move when they were told they could not be helped. Long story short she had to abandon her car in line after about 40 min to walk into the store to get a manager, which took persuading. The manager's refused to call the police or do anything to help the situation. My experience in the drive through was just as bad. 2 cars in front of me and about 20 min per car to process them through. Inside is just as bad. Each time was a minimum of 30 min. Today took the cake when I decided to take a chance with one person ahead of me. Go figure they still couldn't get their act together and it took 30 min. The only reason I keep torturing myself is because It's close to my house and I'm trying to set up delivery of any future meds. read more

On December 13, 2024, my most recent experience at Walgreens in San Carlos is so beyond "cruel and unusual punishment", that it's hard to believe. Fortunately, many other customers and employees witnessed it. The pharmacy manager verbally abused me. I'm a 73-year-old disabled widow on a fixed income. I was in need of a prescription, so my doctor called in the prescription hours earlier because she did not want me to run out on the weekend. This isn't a medication that can suddenly be stopped, especially an older woman who has preexisting conditions that can flare up under stress. The pharmacy manager provoked me by smugly telling me that the medication was there, but she would not fill it as it was not preapproved. (Months before, her abuse of authority was costly when she refused to give me a Medicare discount that I was entitled to receive). When I told her I had significant financial and emotional issues setting up at home hospice, and could I get the Medicare discount until the insurance authorization was approved, she lied to me, and I had to pay over $50, not just over $5, with that discount. I told her that this enormous discount was available to anyone with Medicare Part B, and when I'd asked other employees at that Walgreens for the discount, and at other pharmacies, they gave it to me--saving me well over 50% of the cost to me if I filled it before the prior authorization was approved. I often can't drive, or afford to get rides, before my insurance goes through, so I may pay for it, to save me time and money. I did make a complaint about her to a store manager the next day. A few days later, I had to see the dragon lady again. I had a question about an OTC medication. She made a point to tell me that she made sure the pharmacists, who legally gave me my Medicare discount, got in trouble with the district manager. They hadn't told me about the discount; civil servants told me. The last thing I wanted to do was get an employee in trouble. I'm known to give thank you cards, and big kudos to the great employees at Walgreens; I'm a firm believer in encouragement and making sure people get excellent references. and everyone who knows me knows how much I like to give small tokens of my appreciation. And Friday, the 13th wasn't the first time that this pharmacy manager had me confused and embarrassed, questioning my mind, but this was the first time that two other store managers came to her assistance, not mine although I was clearly sick and needed help. I get steamed up, literally, and my breathing gets labored. It's obvious to anyone that I can't breathe well, even using my inhaler. People ask me if I'm ok, or my doctor says to call 911. This is ageist and ableist discrimination and abuse, not to mention basic common decency. On November 18th I had to fill a prescription, and willingly paid cash up front, before the prior authorization went through with my health plan. On November 22, I got a message from the pharmacy that my authorization was now approved, and to go to Walgreens and get my money refunded. And guess who I had to ask? She wouldn't give me my reimbursement, telling me I had to have a bank statement, although I put it on my Visa, and that should be in their computer. I have difficulty getting rides to my bank and standing in line. But 20 days later, I could prove it. I went to Walgreens; she told me they did not owe me any money, printed out a Patient Information Prescription Profile, stapled it and pushed under the plastic barrier for me as written proof. When I told her I was going to take the report to Aging & Adult Services to report elder abuse, she tried to grab the report back from me, then blamed me for a scratch she received from the staple at the top of the paperwork. read more

My reviews are typically more professional, but here we go: 1 star is very generous for an establishment like this.We we're stuck in the drive through line for 1 hour and 50 minutes!!!!! Like what? My cat ran a marathon in that time. My Dog drove to New York in that time. My brother made his first million in that time. And the worst part, we still didn't get the prescription, we had to just go inside and wait longer to get it. And the employee I told about this issue was extremely rude to me, like why are your yelling at a 13 year old kid, how does that benefit you? You get the point by now. This was literally a Guiness world record wait. So this is understandably the worst place I've ever been. Just go to the Trader Joe's next door and have a good time. Update: I spoke with Walgreens pharmacy today because they were supposed to refill a medication. The pharmacist was unbelievably rude. At one point, she was saying she couldn't refill my medication (I'm covered for the brand name only, not generic) because the doctor didn't say "name brand ONLY" on the prescription, even though he did say that name brand was needed! This woman was extremely short and rude, and at one point while i was taking she actually put me on hold for two seconds and then picked back up, as if to interrupt what i was saying. She also compared my medication to a Louis Vuitton bag...?? I know my previous review said it's a corporation problem, not a staff problem, but the issue today was absolutely a staff problem. I don't know what the pharmacist's name is, but her attitude and inability to help patients understand or work around their medications being screwed with is unacceptable. read more
