Scheduled an appointment to install a new wall this morning at 10AM. Confirmed the appointment time over email, over text (last Friday), and over text once again yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Each time the appointment was confirmed. Texted again a few times this morning to confirm, and no response. Started getting worried. Showed up to the property at 10AM and waited for 30 minutes. Left after not receiving any text or email saying that the team would be late or not even show up. At 11:30AM got a text saying the team was delayed due to other jobs they had to do and that the team would come at 12PM instead. Marc installed a flex wall in our apartment last November. Wall removal after 12 months was covered within the price we originally paid. We have been non stop contacting, with no response. Looking at other reviews, seems like this is not the first instance this company has done this to their customers. Does anyone who's experienced this have any suggestions of how my roommate and I should proceed? Would be great if Wall Empire could at least respond telling us they're unable to do it, so we have confirmation before hiring someone else for removal. A year ago Marc installed a large T wall with a plexi top to allow for light to shine into a common room along with inward swinging doors and an access panel for a shared AC unit. The flex structure was great and served its purpose well. Today on short notice he came back and removed everything as promised (even reinstalled a light fixture). I called ~5 other temporary wall places before I came across Wall Empire. Marc (the owner) was super friendly, and quoted me the most reasonable prices for what I wanted done (one wall, about 11 feet long, with a frosted glass door for our living room). I was able to make an appointment with him for the following week. He showed up about 15 minutes early, came in and measured, swept up, and got to work. He and his coworker were very friendly, and they made sure to go over all the details with us (door location, opening direction, how much space was needed on either side, etc). Unlike some companies we spoke to, sound insulation was included, as was a paint job for the new wall. Our room was already painted a certain color, so we asked if they could use our paint rather than their standard white, and they told us it was no problem. In order to put up the new wall, we had to remove some shelves from one of the base walls, so there were holes from where we had removed wall anchors. Without us even asking, they spackled the holes on the already existing wall and painted over them, easily saving us an hour or two. I can't stress what a nice surprise that was. These guys are awesome! At the last minute, I asked if we could add some plexiglass windows running along the top of the new wall to let more light into the newly created room. Marc was super flexible, said no problem, and added it to our (still totally reasonable) bill. When they were all done, part of the wall above the door had expanded and you could see the seam a little bit. Marc pointed it out, and told us that he'd come back later this week to plaster the seam again. He was very meticulous, cleaned up after he was finished, and by the time he was done you'd have had no clue the room had been a full on construction site just an hour earlier. If I didn't know any better, I would not be able to tell that the wall is fake at all. DO NOT use Wall Empire. Marc, the owner, was great at first--we got a great price on a temporary wall. However, day of the wall installation I get a call at 9:30 AM (the wall was supposed to be installed at 10:30 AM) that there is a problem with getting the truck out because of snow and that they are running at least an hour late. Fine, things happen, no big deal (but it seems strange, because other trucks are driving around the city just fine...) The woman I spoke to was very nice and seemed to want to be accommodating. I ask for an update about an hour later and I get a call that the truck broke down on the way back from a removal earlier that morning. I'm told that the plan is that they will wait to see if a mechanic can fix it, and if he can't in 2 to 2 1/2 hours, they'll try to come up with a new solution. When I ask if they can rent a truck, since it's now 11:30 AM and they were supposed to be at my apartment an hour ago, the woman I speak to calls Marc the owner to ask. When she calls back, she tells me that they don't want to rent a truck because if they do that, they'll be losing money on the job. Renting a truck, she says, is a last resort, but even if they do rent a truck after the 2 1/2 hours, they still need to put my materials onto another truck, which she estimates would mean that they would be able to get to me an hour after renting the truck. So at this point, my wall is going to be assembled at 3pm at the earliest. They offer to give me a $50 discount when I ask for one since I'll be waiting around for them for 5 hours. While I understand that the truck broke down and that's going to reduce their bottom line, it's not my fault and I shouldn't be the one to deal with it. I arranged my day based on the agreed-upon time, I couldn't finish moving in until they built the wall, and I only had the elevator available for them to move their materials for a certain amount of time. They should have rented a truck--that's the cost of doing business and showing up when you say you're going to show up. But because I can't just call any other company (you have to submit insurance papers to the property manager beforehand) I ask her to call me after they hear word from the mechanic. Plus, I've already gotten a bank certified check for Wall Empire, so I just can't write a new one for someone else. I'll have no way to pay, unless they'll take a credit card. 2 hours rolls around, no word. 2 1/2 hours later rolls around, still no word. I call. No answer. 3 hours later rolls around, still no word. I call again. No answer. I call after 4 hours, STILL NO ANSWER. I realize now that they're just ignoring my calls, and they're not coming. They probably figure that the job is not worth their time (and apparently neither am I) so they just don't show up. Serendipitously, earlier that morning another company was building walls in my building (they're cleared for work in the building so no papers needed) and they ended up able to build my wall as soon as I called, for $50 more, and they were able to take my credit card. The better price from Marc was not nearly worth the hassle Wall Empire caused. I even called Marc to give them the courtesy of canceling the job. I left a message and sent a text, but there was never any response. He might do a good job when all goes exactly as planned, but do not count on any customer service. Not only that, they give you free wall removal if you need it removed within 1 year (it may be 2 years). They cleaned everything when they took down the walls and there was no mess! These guys have either gone out of business or are dodging me. Scheduled to come to remove an existing wall on Saturday (which he put up a year earlier). Doesn't show up the whole day. Doesn't answer phone calls, messages or voicemail. Calls up end of the day and makes up some story why he couldn't come. Says he'll come the following morning. And behold, same story the next day. Don't use wall empire. I can't stress that enough. Use a different company. There are quite a few articles around that describe the sleazy practice where these companies come and put up the wall, and claim that they will remove it for free within a year if required, only to completely ignore the customer when you decide to call them. Life saver! After I was tricked by the company that built me the custom bookshelf wall and promised to remove it for free and didn't, I was very fortunate to come across Wall Empire for the removal of my wall. With short notice, they were able to work around my strict schedule to remove the wall on the specific date I wanted. I have personally contacted over 20 different contractors for the service and non of them was able to give me a reasonable price ($500-1000)!!. Only Wall empire was able to give me the cheapest price ($275!) and at the same time provided a certificate of insurance to the building management which almost no contractor could provide that for this price!. Not to mention, they were very pleasant to talk to, very professional & punctual. They did an amazing job at the removal of the wall and took them almost less than an hour! Moreover, they also patched all the holes from the wall and made the apartment look like there was no wall to begin with. Marc has taken the dreaded endeavor of finding the right contractor to know the applicable rules within each building and has made the process seamless. He is professional, follow ups diligently, and is efficient. The quality of the wall is exactly what it's worth - though other companies will take shortcuts to undercut the value for what you're paying for (I.e. Insulation for soundproofing, temperature control). He makes sure to ensure you through the process and is upfront through the entire process. We hired these folks 2 years ago to put up a 12+ foot flex wall in an apartment in the LES to convert it from a 3-bedroom to a 4-bedroom. They did the job cheaper than anyone else we could find. The wall held very well for the 2 years. We had paid up-front for removal, and they were very prompt with returning when asked to remove the wall (even 2 years later with no additional payment, as promised). I really cant say enough about Wall Empire - I would recommend Marc (the business owner) to ANYONE in need of walls in NYC. The process of finding an affordable apt, moving, etc. is hard enough. From start to finish, Marc was responsive and easy to work with. He completely took care of the COi process with the building (where we aren't even technically allowed to have walls!), took measurements, accommodated all of our requests, and built the walls in ONE DAY. Our apt lay out was a bit difficult, but Marc literally made our EXACT wishes come true. Marc didn't honor the part of the contract that promised to remove the walls when we move out. We emailed and called many times about the removal before we could get a response from him, and finally over the phone he agreed to take them down but wouldn't put anything in writing despite our requests. After many attempted follow ups with one success of reaching him, he confirmed our appointment for the next day. He never showed up to the appointment and no one answered our phone calls. We're now going to have to pay hundreds of dollars to another wall company to have them remove the walls in time for our move-out date in a week. read more

After contacting them to have it removed, I repeatedly didn't hear back and then received a shakedown for an apple gift card before they would come remove it on the last day. They were great !! Installed a wall for my roommate and I about a year ago and it had to come down becuase we both moved out. I called him and he was able to come the next day and even came early, called me and said he'd wait for me. No one could ever even tell the wall wasn't supposed to be there, it blended in so nicely. Mark is simply the best, from his personality and people skills to his incredible craftsmanship. My first experience with Mark was in my previous apartment where he built my first wall from scratch. This only took him a short period of time and it looked perfect. I never had a problem with hearing noises from outside of the room. No one ever knew it was a built-in wall. When he came over to remove it years later, it was a pleasure to see him. Not only is he extremely efficient but he is also thoughtful - offering to help me with little things around my home as he knew that there were things that I wouldn't be able to do myself. Naturally, when I got a new apartment I asked him to build my wall there. This wall job was even better than the last, which I didn't know was possible. The wall looks completely natural and the paint job he did on top is perfect. It looks like that room is meant to be there! It's flawless. Wall Empire did an amazing job in our apartment! This is the second apartment that I've lived in which I had to put a wall up and Wall Empire did a better job than the other company I used previously. The previous company I used put up a standard L shaped wall wall, it was fine, nothing special. However, the structure was fairly sloppy (floorboards started to come off, not attached all the way). There were a few details like this which were not visible from far away but after close inspection you could tell there were errors. This was not the case with Wall Empire which did a very clear and concise job in building our wall. We had a very complicated set up we weren't sure we would be able to the install walls where we wanted them to be. However, Marc at Wall Empire did an amazing job in finding a solution to all of the problems. I didn't even know you could install a wall in the way that he did it...it split a window in half and goes over a counter-top (and actually looks good). I would definitely recommend Marc!!
