Ate at Wallace's Asti at the suggestion of a tour guide, and it was absolutely amazing. Well off the tourist path. Started with bruschetta which was light, fresh, and flavorful. Very good. We both had pizzas. Wife had margarita pizza and I had the calabrase, both were Neapolitan style. Speaking for myself, the calabrese was phenomenal. Very very flavorful. I loved it! My wife was very happy with hers too. We also had a great bottle of wine, and the entire meal was very inexpensive relative to what we expected. I wish I remembered our waitress's name, but I don't. I know she was just in Florence, so if you read this thank you!!

Our first meal in Dublin was at The Old Mill Restaurant, right in the heart of Temple Bar. It's been serving traditional Irish fare since the 1980s and has become a favorite stop for both locals and visitors looking for classic comfort food. After about a 20-minute wait, we were seated in the warm, inviting dining room. Susan ordered the mussels, one of her favorites, while I went with the Traditional Irish Stew and my daughter chose the Braised Beef & Guinness Stew. Both were exactly what we hoped for: hearty, flavorful, and perfect after a day of sightseeing. I finally understood why the Guinness stew had such a rich, dark color, and I have to admit, I came home a big fan of Irish stew. We finished with the Homemade Bread & Butter Pudding topped with fresh cream and custard, a comforting dessert that was the perfect ending to the meal. Service, atmosphere, value, and food were all five out of five. We also enjoyed chatting with the floor manager, whose pride in the restaurant and his team was obvious. That kind of hospitality made a great meal even more memorable.

The mash was too thick and chunky, the bangers were bit overcooked. The mussels was disappointing, seafood chowder was ok. The restaurant is located on the second floor. We made a reservation, but was asked to wait while they cleaned up the table. Unfortunately, the table they wanted to seat us, the folks decided to have a long after dinner conversation, thus we ended up waiting longer than expected. Then they seated us at a larger table after waiting 15 minutes or so. The service was decent... wasn't fan of tipping request, EU needs to stop adopting USA's stupid system :)

Way more chill than anything in the Temple Bar area. Food is served late so this is a great spot close to Trinity College. The atmosphere is laid back, the location is spacious, and the interior is super trendy - full of art and good vibes. They have a pool room and TVs to catch the latest game. The portions are large and reasonably priced - we shared everything. I'm super picky when it comes to fish so its not in my nature to order it, but since he wanted to try it, I gave in... turns out the seafood chowder was one of my faves. So much flavor!!! The goat cheese salad was the perfect accompaniment, and we couldn't leave without trying the curry fries. Now on to the cocktails...they have a great happy hour and the mixologist definitely knows how to shake up the perfect drink. I love when you can tell a bartender your favorite flavors and they mix you a custom libation! The entire staff was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this spot and will gladly return next time I'm in Dublin.

Wine arrived quickly and not far behind it, the food. Presentation was perfect, it all looked inviting and interesting but sadly the food itself was not up to scratch - don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but some bits were definitely lacking, notable among them was a sort of macaroni and cheese thing that totally didn't work. Overall I wouldn't mind going back, I reckon with the right dishes, more time and a couple of bottles of wine the place would be amazing!

The platter is excellent value, the dishes were uniformly good, and there's ample food for one. A few of the group tried other menu items. I didn't hear a negative comment from anyone, and the consensus was that we'd be back. Service was friendly, pleasant and relaxed. They also have some interesting beers. I asked which ones they have and stopped him at the first one I hadnt tried before- Barcino Gotic (pleasant enough pale ale). By the time we'd finished, the place was filling up, but we weren't pressured to leave as we lingered chatting while our digestive systems got to work. Nice decor too and some outdoor seating on picturesque (!) Drumcondra Road, which will be useful 3 or 4 nights a year (last night was one of those nights actually). All in all, a pleasant and good value experience. Update 23 August: came here just after 7pm but, after checking, the waitress said we could still have the early bird platter, which stops at 7pm. And now I see why it's getting mixed reviews. Clearly there was a different chef on duty this evening and, rather than being uniformly good, the dishes on the platter were mediocre to poor. Had this been my first experience here, i wouldnt return.

The entire joint was booked out, including the bar seats. Disappointed, we left & found another cocktail bar within walking distance. Out of curiosity, we checked out the 9 Below Open Table, & saw that there was availability in just over an hour. We decided to book 2 spots & wait it out. When we returned, the host remembered us & remembered that we prefer to sit at the bar. They showed us to our reserved spots - at the bar! We first admired the interior. Underground! Somehow low-lit, archaic, well-lit, & modern, all at the same time. Lively but not noisy pop music was playing - Dua Lipa, etc. The actual physical menu was so cool. It was a beautifully designed picture-book inspired menu, with each cocktail having its own separate & artful page. I'm looking back on the menu & I think the drink I ordered was "Fight Club" (Don Julio Blanco, mango, Falernum, camomile, lemon, & sugar) & it was phenomenal. The bartender scorched a hot pepper & carefully placed it on top, which MADE the drink. He also made my partner a Paper Plane with Scotch. Delicious. Speaking of the bartender, he was a real champion. Such a nice guy with a bit of flair to his style of bartending. We really enjoyed chit chatting with him. It also seemed like the staff really vibed with each other & everyone was having a good time. Great atmosphere. The next time we're back in Dublin we will definitely be back to 9 Below Bar.

The food is usually really good here, but this visit was disappointing overall. The corn croquettes were cheesy and tasty, which was a nice highlight. The bacon jam on the burger was not pleasant, and the fried onion ring was soggy and stale. It's an ugly grey metal door with VCC randomly applied, so if you didn't know what was there it would look industrial. There is a door bell to the left of the door. Ring it a few times and someone will open the door and check you in. With reservations they do make you wait until exactly that time so don't be alarmed. Your table is already selected for you.
