Unlike their sister establishment across the way, Wallace Taverna welcomed me immediately and sat me at a great table for 1 near the door. I enjoy watching all the comings and goings! And a lovely Australian couple were sat next to me. The conversation was brilliant. The bruschetta was lovey and fresh, not over-toasted, and paired well with the Montepulciano. The staff was quite friendly and attentive throughout the service. The main dish, the aubergine gnocchi, was spaced nicely from the time I ate the bruschetta. A nice attention to detail. And it was light and flavorful. You could tell it was homemade. Made in-house several days each week. And the pistachio mousse was scrumptious. (Didn't need the chocolate cap IMHO). The atmosphere inside is bright and clean, and lends itself well to see all the goings on in the place and in the walkway outside, as well as hear the good times happening all over. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment for a wonderful meal and a great experience. I ended up eating and drinking more than I bargained for, because everything was so good! read more

After being neglected by Romano's (read below for more information on my bizarre encounter) I still had a yearning for pasta. It made sense then to go to the Italian Quarter. It's very homely inside, I liked the decor. Staffed by Italians albeit Italians that are in no rush at all, which I have to admit was annoying as the restaurant was not packed. So I can relate to Alison C. Very limited menu. I ordered the sausage stuffed pasta in tomato sauce, I can't remember it's correct name. Bear in mind I was starving and this was priced at €12 I was expecting a hefty portion - no such joy. I am not a savage but I have a good appetite and this dish came out on an appetizer sized plate, I was not happy. I also find the dish tasteless, so much so that I had to douse the pasta with salt. Thank God the glass of house white was nice, tinges of honey and it diffused my disappointment. Espresso was fine. Service was slow and pleasant. Would not rush back. read more

This means waiting staff is super busy and customers have less proper attention than they should. Oh, you came by during quiet time - good for you. If during busy time - don't expect perfect service. But you may expect great food quality. Just don't order tiramisu. I think competitors swapped the cake for us so we won't give five star rating. Table for two was a choice for us and we got table number 10. I'd say one of the "go for" tables for couples. Good lighting, no one passing you, have a wall to lay back if stomach needs some rest :) Downside is a lack of waiting staff. Our waiter disappeared and we waited for about 15 minutes until someone approached us. As our plates were empty and deserts were finished, we waited for 15 minutes only to say "bill, please". After complaint about terrible tiramisu, waiter just nodded and not a word about it. Then brought a receipt. I can tell, that he was too busy to deal with complaints. Well, be warned - don't expect anything by complaining. Oh, you may expect one thing, waste your time. Apart from that, I'm coming back to try some other nice dishes. Canolo was not authentic. I hadn't been here in a few years as last time I ate here I ordered an aubergine parmesan, which was dripping in oil and put me off completely for a long, long time. Anyhow, I thought to give it another go (staying well clear from that dish) My seafood risotto was okay...bit too tomato-y, a bit too undercooked and not a whole lot of fish (apart from 2 prawns and few mussels and 2 tiny pieces of squid). My friends pizza was actually really good. And only 12 euro. Their early bird is only 18 euro for 2 courses, so value wise it's pretty good. Service was friendly enough There is nothing wrong with this restaurant at all. It's just that it's one of those places I wouldn't rush back to. read more

I also got carbonara, which I think is a good dish to judge the overall quality of an Italian place by. Again, good but not great. The sauce and pork were both good. I was craving pizza to the Max (fer sur) after having been in Dublin for a few weeks. I was delighted to discover this "hidden gem" of a restaurant that literally seems to be hidden just a very short distance from Temple Bar. Walking by, the large number of people inside caught my attention, and I wanted to find out what everyone else already seemed to know. After studying the menu, and hearing about the specials, I knew just what to eat. On Monday night, you get a free pizza if you buy a bottle of wine. My friend and I were both on foot, so we decided to get two bottles of one and two pizzas :-) Starting with a lovely salad that we shared, and a glass of wine or 3, our pizzas arrived and they were delicious! We had one Romano, and one Volcano; both are highly recommended! I have no doubt that all that wine after walking for a couple of hours before dinner set the mood for me to be pleased, but pleased I was - I'm really glad we stumbled across this excellent little venue! read more

I had been craving pizza for the past few days..not just any pizza. some authentic Italian. A colleague of mine suggested this place as apparently it was meant to be great authentic food. Well I can definitely agree on that. Just by looking at the menu I knew it was genuine Italian food..and what a great selection they have! Since me and my fiancé couldn't decide on which one to chose we picked and shared two different types of pizza ( "Romana" and "A modo mio" ) as well as some bruschetta for starter. Both were absolutely delicious and quite big too. I definitely want to go back and try more of the menu as everything looked really good. I read some comments about service being slow but I really can't complain, staff were lovely and we got served super quick. The only reason why I am not giving it a 5 is I found it a tiny bit expensive. But again maybe it's cause I know pizza in Italy is generally much cheaper than it is in Dublin. read more

Ah it's a hard one this one. The staff in here are so lovely. So I want to give them full marks. But they were just all over the place. The service needs a good once-over. We must have waited for every.single.thing. we wanted. The menu. The drinks. The bill. But they were so short staffed that it really wasn't their fault. The food was really delicious. Very authentic Italian and great value. The other reason I'm not gonna quite bump this up to a 4 is that to be honest the interior is a bit meh. It's just not massively comfy. I mean there's nothing totally bad about it, it's just not somewhere you could see yourself spending a long time. I think I'd definitely come in here for a lunch, but just not for dinner. read more

Stopped into La Taverna the other night to get a glass of wine and chat with a friend. It was sprinkling out but we sat on the outside patio underneath the roof. I walked inside the restaurant and told the server we were going to sit outside even though it was raining. We were having a serious conversation so we didn't think to complain but 45 minutes later nobody had approached us yet. 45 MINUTES! We finally waved down a server through the big front window and he took our order. I decided it was best to ask for the bill right away since who knows when they would have come out again. On a sunny summer's day I enjoyed some delicious Italian food on a lovely patio in Dublin's Italian Quarter. Wallace's was it's name and pasta and wine was its game. Alright, so I didn't even know Dublin had an Italian Quarter until I came to this place. My roomie and I enjoyed some lovely rosé and I chose the olives as a starter. There were enough olives to be served at a cocktail party in that bowl. I couldn't eat them all, but they were delicious! For my meal I moved onto the mushroom ravioli with a rich truffle cream sauce. One word: HEAVENLY. I thought angels were descending upon me as I took the first bite. Or maybe I was confused because of the biblical-inspired mural across the street at Caffe Cagliostro...I ended lunch with a delicious double espresso. Popped in here on a snowy tuesday for a casual dinner with my boyfriend. We weren't sure at first which of the Wallace restaurants to go to, but ultimately our love of pizza persuaded us to try Taverna (Enotecta doesn't have pizza). We had no reservations but it wasn't a problem on a Tuesday; we got a lovely, cozy window seat so we could watch the snow fall swirl around outside. The restaurant interior is unique and inviting, with two levels and wine bottles along all the walls. Upon opening the menu, I knew my karma must be doing ok because there is a deal Mon-Tues where you get a free pizza with any bottle of wine you buy! Wine list is extensive (although I am woefully ignorant about Italian wine). We picked a bottle of Sangiovese that was excellent. The menu seemed to indicate would receive free bread, but it did not materialize. The food came out quickly however, so we didn't starve for long. We ordered the baked rigatoni, which was simple and yummy but could have used a bit more cheese in my opinion. For pizza, you have the choice of a "classic" or "modern" (more adventurous toppings-- like potatoes!). Boyfriend is a traditionalist when it comes to pizza so we got a classic with ham, mushrooms, and olives. It was delicious. Unlike some authentic Italian pizzas, they don't skimp on the toppings. Crust was a little soggy in the very centre (pet peeve of mine) but the flavour was so good I could overlook this. Note that they do not slice the pizza unless you ask them to (weird), so he had to take it back to the kitchen briefly. I suppose a normal couple could have been completely satisfied with just the pizza, as it was not a personal-size one as I was expecting-- it was pretty big! Now for the downside-- the service was somewhat cold and brusque. An italian man and woman were both working but they barely spoke to us. Not friendly at all. A table next to us had to return a dish because it was not what they ordered. Then we got to watch the female server berate the man for his mistake. I can typically accept lacklustre service if the food is good, but right before we left, a group of 4 Italian customers came in and the servers were all smiles, conversing in Italian with them, and generally ignoring all the other customers. Maybe they were friends but that doesn't excuse it. Such a shame because the food was so enjoyable here. Maybe I'll see if Enoteca has better service... read more

Solid 4! Had 2 pizza, both vegetarian. One was Parmagana (with aubergine, but precooked) and a Margherita (fairly standard)! Service was great and quick. Both pizzas were good. Low key, easy going. Delicious pizza. The crust is awesome and the sauce excellent. Try the Regina sauce! The ingredients were very fresh and the staff happy to customize. Italian is their first language so be clear when ordering. They offer a very good selection of reasonably priced Italian wines. I would recommend this restaurant for families with older kids but maybe call ahead for a reservation if there are more than 4 in your party. We liked it so much we went a second time. read more

We stopped in for a nice lunch on a day out in the sun, it's a lovely place tucked into a nicely refurbished but sadly rarely seen part of the city for me! I liked the decor and the place and the staff were lovely, we had a platter between the three of us which nicely filled the stomach but I wouldn't consider a hefty feed, my only real issue with the place would be the pricing. While the quality of the food is lovely it's hard to justify the hefty price tag! I wouldn't write this place off for a second visit; but I'd make sure I had plenty of cash and wasn't too hungry before I arrived! read more

Just on your left as you enter the "Italian Quarter" from the Hapenny Bridge, you'll find La Taverna. This is the best place for a glass of good vino with great cheese and antipastis on offer. This place is consistant. I have enjoyed every diner there and the same goes for last night. I came in with a group and the service was great, the food came quickly (not too quickly!) and it was very nice. I had the antipasto plate, with a selection of meats, cheese and vegetables. The vegetables consisted of marinate peppers and were succulent. I went for the pizza, while it wasn't the best I'd ever had it was very close to being perfectly good. We went for the house red, also quite nice after you let it breathe for a while. I will definitely be back in a group setting. read more

The food quality of Wallace's earns itself 4-stars, but because of the high price i think 3 stars is warranted. The food is good, but not worth the money. To start I had mussels in a red wine broth. They were quality mussels and the broth was flavorful, but I was not blown away by them. For my main course I had spaghetti with Shrimp in a white sauce (with garlic and herbs). The pasta and shrimp were both well cooked and seasoned, but after awhile I felt like it was missing something and it began to get a little dull. I do applaud this place for service. They were very attentive (especially for European standard of service), and got us a table with no reservation on Valentine's Day. Overall, Wallace's provides good, flavorful food for a premium price. read more

The Millennium Walk was a lovely addition to Dublin 1 and I am glad to see it still looking well and apparently doing good business. I regularly visit Wallace's Taverna. The wine list is impressive and well priced. The staff are always friendlyand unpretentious and always willing to offer advice, if asked. It has a nice selection of nibbles to accompany your wine, if you don't want a big meal. The platters are not quite Fallon & Byrne standard but the bruschetta, my favourite being the prosciutto version, and side of olives has never disappointed. I went here on my own for food after I was attracted to the cheap prices on their menu outside. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious, which is extraordinary considering the price I paid for it - only about 13e and that included a can of Italian cola that I loved. The staff were very nice and overrun. They needed more as the only 2 were rushed off their feet covering inside and outside. That said they were lovely although it took ages to order. They don't have your usual soft drinks just a selection of artisan suggestions and they were great so it made a nice change from your 16 spoons of sugar coke. We all had starters there were only 4 to choose from we had all but the soup and they were lovely. I had the buffalo mozzarella and it was fabulous. Then we had 2 different types of pizza one was a fancy name for pepperoni and it was just pepperoni. I had the parma ham, it was normal packet ham. The base was perfect, thin and as it should be. The tastes were great. The house wine, crap crap crap. We tried a few and yuck. The coffee lovely well my espresso was anyway. I would definitely go back if I was passing but I wouldn't make a special trip. Id hate to see it full as the wait was too long. Hire more bloody staff. read more

Nice cozy restaurant on the Millennium Walk. It's not huge so the tables are a bit close together. We were at one against the back wall on the lower level so we didn't have people squeezing to get past us. We had a good Italian wine and a shrimp anitpasto. We had a pizza with Tuscany sausage that was amazing and carrot cake for desert. We were there on a Sunday evening so they weren't super busy and the service was average. read more

Stopped by with the family for a quick lunch. For 15 euro my wife and I split we an average Margherita pizza. My son asked for no mushrooms on his calzone and it was loaded with them. To their credit they offered to make him a new one, but the rest of us were already eating and we didn't want to wait around. Some other dishes I saw looked pretty good, but for pizza and calzones I thought this place was over priced.
