They make their own beer. We ran into some people on our tour who recommended trying here. They said it was cheaper than Guinness and tasted even better. We're doing the Guinness tour this afternoon, so I can't compare the two quite yet -- but I can say that I'm an American who usually prefers lagers and Hefeweizens. We ordered the Clockwork. The only Stout I typically like is a Bourbon Stout.. but this is delicious. It's made here on the Emerald Isle -- about 3 miles away and it's got my seal of approval. Not too bitter, goes down easy. We sat outside because the weather was good and just ordered a bunch of drinks here that we had to take turns coming inside to order and bring out (as there's no service outside) but we had the best time just drinking some vodka sodas sitting outside and enjoying each other. Coming back from a long day and we were looking for an Irish coffee to end our day. Google said this was one of the best ones and they were right! We got a table outside and the server was super nice and patient. Got a round of Irish coffees and sat and drank for a while. Vibes were great the drink was delish! My partner and I ended up here after the pub we tried to go to stopped serving food a minute after we got there. I'm so glad we went here instead! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the very friendly barman who told us to pick a table and he would be right with us. True to his word, he was there not a minute later and took our drink orders. I just had water and my partner had a rock shandy. A server came by a few minutes later to take our food orders. I got the Cajun chicken burger and my partner got the vegetable rigatoni. The rock shandy was delicious and refreshing. It had just the right ratio of soda to juice. The chicken burger was also very tasty. The breading was crispy and delicious and the chicken was flaky and well-cooked. The fries were also pretty good. The rigatoni was super flavorful and had a great sauce with it. We ate quickly and paid the bill, leaving less than an hour after arriving. The pub was filling up quickly so we knew it was a popular spot, and now we know why. The pub is a bit loud as pubs generally are, so it's not a place to bring your kids or anyone who is sensitive to noise. It's very cozy and has a great atmosphere and I would absolutely go back again. I definitely recommend this pub! The food is delicious and the staff are a delight. read more

The Bankers Bar is a classier pub than your typical as you have all their collection of whiskeys lighted up along their wall. It's a nice spot for a date night as there's some ambiance to the place. We ended up here since it was near our hotel, but it's a pretty neat pub. We had some drinks and ended the night with a slice of the Bailey's Cheesecake (€6.95). Great pub with good service, engaging bartender and the prices are about half of other pubs in Temple Bar (especially the eye-watering prices at the The Temple Bar pub down the street). This was the first pub in Dublin where we didn't feel we were getting "rinsed" as the Irish say. Had a couple of pints of Guinness and a pint of their own stout, which was creamy and a little milder than the Guinness if you prefer your stout a little less bitter. My wife liked the Dingle vodka that they serve too. Would go back in a heartbeat, shame we live 5,000 miles away in Los Angeles! read more

Very quaint pub with awesome whiskey options (we had a flight) and plenty of beer selections, but who needs that when you have Guinness?! We sat at the very back where they have a cozy area with tables and had a blast watching everything going on. We made our way to The Bankers Bar on our second night in Dublin City Centre after dinner on our last excursion to Ireland. It was a lovely little spot to grab a couple of bar seats at their cozy main bar, where we enjoyed some different pours of Irish whiskey. Situated not much as a stone's throw from Dame Street in Dublin City, The Bankers Bar revealed itself to us after we finished our dinner and set off hitting some pubs. The bar itself certainly has that traditional feel -- cozy, narrow, a little bar area, booths, and some delightful Irish whiskey to enjoy a pour however you like in addition to other spirits. The Bankers is certainly a good stop to being your evening as you can make your way down Grafton Street to enjoy some of the other bars and clubs that are open thereafter. If you're making your way around the various sites and sounds of Dublin, The Bankers is a good watering hole to take a load off and enjoy a whiskey or pint. Take your pick. read more

The bar itself is fine, typical pub, but I watched one of the bartenders turn away 2 black men, claiming they weren't dressed appropriately. This is a very comfortable and friendly place where I had lunch and a Guiness on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded. They have several high tables around the bar as you enter and I sat at one and ordered a Guiness from the bartender. For lunch I decided to try the Guiness beef stew, which is a kind of meat pie with a very light and flaky crust on top and a rich gravy with large pieces of beef inside. It was a very hearty meal and comes with a slice of a moist dark bread, which was very good. Prices were a little high but standard for the area. The stew was 12.95. With a beer the total was just shy of 20 EUR. I'd recommend this place and would try it again. read more

Maybe we got lucky, or maybe this is the best Irish food in Dublin. My partner had the Guinness pie and loved every bite. The nibble I stole was amazing. The fresh brown bread tasted like it was homemade by a Grandma with sweets in her pockets. The kind of grandma who doesn't smother you with kisses and always slips a bit of money in your hand before you leave. My baked Irish ham left me speechless. It was perfect. The bed of mashed potatoes and cream sauce melted in my mouth, and perfectly complimented the thick sliced ham like Salt compliments Pepa. The ham made me want to Shoop. And I don't Shoop lightly. Nice quaint little pub located on Trinity Street not far from the Molly Malone Statue. My wife and I came in for an afternoon pint and lunch and were greeted in a friendly manner and quickly seated at a table. With menus in hand we had our drink and food orders taken. Actual rating 3.5. The No1DP can be proud of me: I found this place just by walking around the streets of Dublin trying to find a good place to eat. I had just finished a 2 hour walking tour and hadn't eaten anything several hours before. Looking from the inside it seemed like a cozy place to stay and rest/eat while it rained. LOCATION: A block off Dame Street, a 5 minute walk from Trinity College and maybe a few minutes from Grafton Street (premier shopping destination for the area). There's the downstairs bar and the upstairs restaurant "New Teller Room Cafe Bar & Diner", yet they serve food downstairs. I ate downstairs at the bar. It was a Monday and there was only one guy at the bar next to me on his phone the entire time. Compared to the other bars I visited during my vacation this wasn't a good sign. SERVICE: Service was average for bartenders as I met much more friendly bartenders throughout my stay. Then again those bartenders worked at pubs in Temple Bar and the locals helped me with getting to talk to them more. Doesn't help here when the people surrounding you were more concentrated on their phone screens. Now lemme tell you something about Dublin. It aint a cheap city. A pint of Guinness will cost you €5-€6. Pub grub can vary even more with prices as €18 for FISH AND CHIPS. Here I paid €14.95, which is a tad pricey but not criminally so. Also helped that it was actually pretty good, one of the best interpretations of the dish I had. - Fish: cod. Moist with the fish pieces just easily slices apart and melt in your part. Batter was also consistently crunchy and did not get soggy as it cooled (this is pretty important). - Thick cut fries (traditional preparation calls for thick cut, not shoestring) that most importantly remained crispy as it cooled. - Small side salad - Peas (also traditional preparation but I'm most emphatically NOT a pea person). This was a lot better than my serving at Leo Burdocks a few days later considering that Leo Burdocks is a more popular chippery that has a few locations around Dublin, most notably near my hotel. Not pictured: my pint of Guinness (€5.30). Didn't taste right as it was not consistent with a lot of the other pours I've had over the course of my vacation, which were textbook perfect (foamy head and texture like a milkshake). If I could sum up in one sentence, it would read "decent food but with extremely slow service". My husband got the Irish stew and I got the bangers and mash. The bangers and mash was superb. A solid portion of creamy and well-seasoned mashed potatoes topped with fantastic sausages browned to perfection. My husband wasn't too happy with the Irish stew. In fact, he's claiming it was his worst travel meal. I have to agree in that it wasn't seasoned much and was a bit on the bland side. After waiting and asking another waiter for the bill (and waiting more) we had to go seek out our waiter to pay the check. He was a very friendly fellow, just a little slow. read more

The main issue with this place was the food. As a bar itself it would be on the 4 star side. This review is really just based on the food. I got burger and chips. It arrived in a few minutes. Way too quick. The burger was clearly cooked in advance and then reheated. Which meant it was tough and nasty. Chips were frozen. It's unacceptable to serve frozen chips with a homemade burger in this day and age and especially charging you 13 Euro. I would never order food in here again. This is a solid public house with a small, cosy/cramped downstairs and a rather more spacious upstairs that they open for functions on reservation and in which they host a weekly comedy night. The Bankers has a long way to go if it plans to steal the comedy bar crown from The International Bar. I can't vouch for the comedy acts they have on, because I was there for a table quiz, but there are a lot of really good comedians in Dublin and it's rare to find a comedy night that really sucks. I've been here only a handful of times. It seems like a reasonably nice boozer. Comfortable for a chat with a few mates to start with before you go somewhere a bit more lively. They have comedy nights on but have not been to them. They seem to have a very cheap menu. All mains were a tenner but when I saw them come out I realized why! Not to be confused with the Bank pub around the corner on Dame Street, I'm not sure how many actual bankers drink here. It attracts a very mixed bag of customers but you will have a good chance of getting a seat. The Bankers is popular if there is sport on the telly, as there always seems to be, so it can be difficult to beat a path to the bar. I therefore recommend the table service.
