Stopped here because it's true pit barbecue, and the place has a great reputation. It's a quasi self-serve/counter order (boudain in the warmer; ladies behind the counter making plates and sandwiches). Everybody was friendly, and the service was relatively fast. I ordered a rib sandwich and grabbed a spicy boudain for the road. The rib, which is chopped for the sandwich, was somewhat dry, though it had decent flavor. Interestingly, one of the folks at my table got the full ribs, and they looked moist and divine. Perhaps my chopped version was in the warmer too long? -- I'll update this review once I rewarm the boudain and go at it, but I will say that it looks and smells wonderful. This is a combination convenience store/gas station/barbecue joint. For the non-Texans out there, sitting at a long table with a roll of paper towels and a bottle of hot sauce is part of the experience. It's old school and outstanding. read more

Honestly I think it depends who is working from reviews I have seen (both good and bad). My husband and I decided to try this based on the clever advertising. I got the potato that came with a substance I can only comparatively describe as sloppy joe mix? My husband got the chicken who made a comment, how do you screw up bbq chicken? He said it had zero flavor and was dry. It was so bad we both decided if we wanted bbq we would go to the other side of the freeway and get bucees. Good luck! As its name indicates, this BBQ joint is located in Waller County, just west of Houston. The family decided to stop in for lunch, because it was just off the highway and what Texan doesn't like barbecue? Very relaxed, open place that is reminiscent of old food stops from days past. Friendly and very efficient staff got our entire order completed pretty quickly. Definitely a great job on service. So the food... I got the chopped brisket sandwich with pickles and onion, pinto beans, potato salad and boudin balls. The brisket was tasty with tender chunks and bits of charred meat. The side of sauce, pickles and onion finished off a pretty decent sandwich. The pinto beans and salad were fairly disappointing- bland and not amazing in any respect. Against my better judgement, I got the boudin balls - thickly battered and fried way too hard. The sausage and rice mix inside was spicy and flavorless at the same time. How is that possible? I washed everything down with a Sonic hard sweet tea with lemon. Again.. meh. Overall, the bbq, which they're known for, is what made the experience. I'd revisit just for that. read more

Cedar Creek Saloon & Waller County BBQ, which is in a gas station convenience store. The bar is separate. It's a typical little local bar with friendly folks. I saw this poster promoting an upcoming event. I was rained in & after a couple beers I decided to check out the BBQ place next door. I saw the poster for the Waller Dog and was feeling adventurous, so I ordered mine with Jalapeños. I'm glad I stopped in! Went inside to order Togo, ordered a chopped brisket stuffed potato, with a side of pulled pork which is done by the weight not a set price. And it was delicious my husband and I split the potato. The ladies in the back are wonderful - super friendly and efficient! There's typically a bit of a line, but it goes quickly; they make each plate as it's ordered. The food varies depending on what you order. They're famous for their loaded baked potato and this is absolutely what you should order there - I suggest with brisket and sauce on the side. Their mild sauce is definitely on the sweet side and while good, can overwhelm a bit. The potato is huge - you can easily split with someone - and they'll split it for you for $3 (worth it). I didn't love the Boudin balls. The ribs and brisket were decent on their own, I don't recommend the sides. This is technically a gas stop but there's plenty of space to eat there on well kept tables with plenty of paper towels. Bathrooms are nice. read more

We stopped in here on 12/9/22, the night before my daughter's graduation from PVAMU. This is pretty good bbq. We had the loaded baked potato with chopped beef. They give a huge annoy of meat, but it was pre-mixed with bbq sauce. I typically like mine on the side. Hence the rating... We also had the smoked Boudin- now that was pretty flavorful! To my surprise the inside was set up like a little country store with red checkerboard table coverings in the eating section, a small area where the foods was served and a choice of home made desserts. I had two sausage sandwiches, one jalapeño the other mild and no I did not eat both of them in one meal. You get enough meat to be able to stretch two sandwiches from one order. I topped my sandwich with the slaw and that was the best decision ever. Their slaw is THE best I've EVER had in any restaurant or eatery ever!!! People come far and wide for their baked potatoes, but the real crowd grabber should be the slaw. After every other bite I kept saying, "but this slaw though!?"
