Stopped off here on a road trip. It's a nice and simple hole in the wall that does a decent selection. I'm no barbecue connoisseur but I thought the food was tasty enough and inoffensive. The place does the job it intends for when you're on the go and is a sure safe bet. Be warned though, the restaurant does close at 2pm most days, I happened to visit probably 20-15 minutes before closing (without checking closing time) though credit to the staff, I didn't feel rushed and pressured whilst I was eating so close to closing, nor did they even mention how close closing time was before ordering. The pricing leans more to the moderate end, but my friend who was with me said that's more typical pricing for barbecue and that the quality here justified the price so this is a solid 3.5-4* place, a safe bet. read more

Breakfast here is awesome the omelet I got was huge and very delicious it had everything on it. You won't go away hungry. The service was great my coffee was never empty, I will definitely visit again my new favorite breakfast spot. Decent BBQ. It's not the best that I have every had, not to worst either. It's a solid 3 star brisket. The brisket was tender and moist but lacked the smokey flavor. The fries are the shoestring type. They cook them to order and have always been hot and fresh. The ice tea is fresh brewed and very good. I would have to agree with the other reviews, the employees aren't the friendliest bunch. While they have never been rude to me, don't expect a smile or greeting when you walk in. OMG... I ordered brisket, sausage, cabbage, mac and cheese with a small peach cobbler. The brisket was dry and cabbage tasted like it had just been boiled with no seasoning. The peach cobbler's homemade crust was over cooked and I could taste the salt that had not been blended in the crust. The only thing good thing was the mac and cheese and my ice tea. I've been eating here a couple times a week for many years and it's always good. All the people there are super friendly and although it gets really busy at meal time, the wait is never more than a few minutes and there's always plenty of seating available because the back room is huge. I have had all the specials, except for fish and they were all delicious. The fried okra is crispy, never greasy, and the green beans taste great. Hey, I like this place. Most of the reviews that say it's not the best ya ever had but it's good are about right. Ain't nothin' wrong with the BBQ here. They serve you up good and always have specials going. When we show up for lunch the place is always full but there is always a table for us. My favorite is the two meat plate which I get the spicy sausage and smoked turkey with two sides and some bread. I leave happy and full every time like damn that was good. Of course there are more premium rubs, sauces and meat grades out there but this place is good and tasty. I've been here more than a hand full of times and when we are in the mood for BBQ for lunch we come here and never been disappointed. The staff is always nice and the guy who chops up the meat is friendly and will ask you questions about how you want your plate. When he is slicing up the meats for me I wanna shake his hand. Salad was brown an nasty when we got it, another time chicken an dumplings lumpy like had been frozen it was awful, greasy fried okra, got coleslaw and it was bad. I got last scoop out of the container. Never offered a refund. The lady is not friendly that runs it. If they had a new person in there to run it may be a better place. Bbq is good and sauce. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! Just went there for lunch today and had the worst hamburger steak I have ever had in my life. It was so burnt that it made me gag. When I went to talk to the cashier/manager about the meal, I simply went up to tell her that it was burnt so that she could check to make sure that the cooks weren't doing something wrong or that the burners weren't up to high. I told her that I didn't want my money back, or another meal, but this is what was going on. As soon as I finished her response was...."What do you want us to do about it?" Jennifer was her name, she had the most horrible attitude for a manager that I have ever encountered. Then, I proceed to ask her for the owners or managers name above her and she wrote it on a ticket. When I called, I spoke with Stephanie (which was not the information I had written on the paper) who told me that I should have gone up there right away, which I had already explained I was on my lunch break and had limited time and needed to get back to work. Stephanie did not take down any of my information to call back or even give me half off coupon or something....considering I had this much of a horrible time there, the coupon would have gotten thrown in the trash anyways....there are 3 other places right in this area that have BBQ: Irv's right at 290 and Field Store Rd, Shell at 290 and 362 and Bucees on the other side of 290 and 362. I would recommend going to any and all of these before going to Carl's!! I went in today to pick up a family dinner meal and several baked potatoes ($140.00 order with a TIP included). The box it was packed in was very large. I asked if there was anyone available to help me with getting it in my car and I was told, "No, we are prepping to close". As I made my way to the front door I felt liquid leaking out of the box. I set the box on a table and began to unpack it to see what was leaking. It was pickle and jalapeno juice. They were packed in flimsy styrofoam containers. As I took everything out and wiped it down I looked over and saw 3 employees standing around the cash register watching me. None of them came over to see if they could assist. I repacked the box and luckily got it out of the door and into my car. I drove 5-7 miles back to my job and when I took the box out the BBQ sauce container had leaked through the box and all over my car seat. Then to top it off they did not pack any BBQ sauce for the potatoes. They don't offer any paper plates or plastic utensils (even for the family pack). I tried the baked potato with smoked turkey. It doesn't taste horrible but it's mediocre. I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of common courtesy and customer service. I called and left a message for the manager to call me. With reading some other reviews I am sad to say I won't expect her to return my call. I won't return to a Carl's BBQ again. read more

Their pork is very good, their sliced brisket is pretty good but their chopped brisket is better. Their BBQ sauce is Ok. The staff really don't talk to you other than asking you what can they get you and how much you owe. Overall the place is clean. read more

Don't let the name fool you, Carl's opens up early in the morning to provide you breakfast to order. I treat myself to an omelette in the morning, and what I consider to be one of the best burgers in the area, their Carl's Burger at Lunch time. The place is clean, you can help yourself to refills and there is plenty of seating and air conditioning. What else could you ask for. read more
