The front desk staff tend to be rude, uncaring, and unsympathetic. Last year my cat needed to be euthanized so I called in the morning asking that she be euthanized that day. The staff rudely said that they couldn't fit me in and to call an emergency hospital. They were rude and short with me. I had to insist to talk to one of the vets explaining that they always accommodated us with this terrible sad and emotional decision. Finally I was allowed to bring my cat in at the end of the day. My poor cat suffered all day waiting for the procedure. In the past they sympathetically fit me in immediately. I will never forgive the front desk people on how rudely they treated me and made my cat suffer After my current cat dies and if I should get another pet I will find a more caring veterinary clinic

Long story short. I have called this vet multiple times. And every time I call the doctor is NEVER IN. I am always told to leave a message or to call back the day after. Why is this when this is a veterinary hospital? My questions are never answered on the day of. And it is a runaround to try and get any information from any of the medical providers in this office. This is the third veterinary practice I've been to in the past year. The first was a clinic took part in killing my first cat, the second clinic put my cat down because of the diabetic shock from the first vet and the medical malpractice/ information I was given. This third vet seems to be promising. However, I can never get a hold of anybody except the receptionist who tells me they're leaving messages all the time for the doctors

They are compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient, and very reasonably priced. One of our rescue dogs, Fiona, was extremely fearful when we first brought her in and needed to be muzzled for visits. Thanks to the patience and kindness of Dr. Michael and the staff, she now happily walks into the office and no longer needs a muzzle. That alone says so much about how they treat animals. Dr. Michael has helped Fiona through both a rare autoimmune condition and aggressive oral cancer with incredible skill and compassion. We ultimately chose her for Fiona's revision surgery because of the trust we have in her, how comfortable Fiona is with the office and staff, and the much more reasonable pricing compared to the specialty hospital. The surgical results were amazing -- you can barely tell anything was ever done. We trust Powder Ridge completely with our dogs and cat and highly recommend them.

Hello all, just following up on Freckles, who unfortunately had the owner of Powder Ridge Vet…read morehandling my dog in the worst way possible. Basically brought Freckles an 8 year old 2 month rescue dog from Oklahoma. By far, over 55 years, best dog I have ever had. Freckles even had a minor surgery with Dr Albin a few year back. He was great. Had to drug my dog up with 3 meds, upon arrival Freckles was laying on floor of large room placed into. Corrine new of my dog, she was awesome as always, showed compassion. The tech and Dr Micheals, owner and vet came in a disaster took place. Tried placing a muzzle on Freckles, a no no, dog has never been in muzzle for anything. Then tried to surgical collars, one the size for a horse. With Freckles under sedatives, Freckles had nothing to do with all there methods to get 4 shots. I waved the blood test for heartguard. My dog was so stressed, never seen him act this way, and still did not growl or snap, which they lied and said he did. I was there 100 percent of the visit. Well next morning, 330 am, Freckles was paralyzed not only from the medicine directed on the bottle , but could not walk 100%, had no idea what was going on, was having a mental and orthopedic event. Bottom line, rushed him to Pieper Olson, Dr Roy in ER room got Freckles to walk and took blood to check for anything including tick born issues. Said Freckles was one of the easiest dogs ever to secure blood from right rear leg. My cost was $600, absolutely well spent money. Powder Ridge Vet has completely changed for the absolute worst. Even the folks working the front desk seem so stressed, no one smiles. There was a paper jam in the printer, two people kept going back and forth about this, too much paper, not enough paper, one had to win the conversation. Kudos to a young doctor at Pieper DR ROY. Terrific ER doctor and did not prescribe any drugs for Freckles. I never experienced such brutal handling of my dog. I have read many reviews now and have noticed many are going one star. Just wanted folks to understand. Feel free to call me at 860 227 7425 if you would like to discuss true facts, nothing more what took place.

Dr. O'Neill is amazing and a godsend for my fur baby!! I wish I found this place sooner!…read more I recently switched vets due to personal reasons and to wanting an another opinion about my prediabetic 13-year-old cat. Dr. O'Neill was very thorough and went above and beyond to explain everything that was going on with attentive care compassion. I've had my sweet boots since she was six months old and want the best for her and Dr. O'Neill assured me how to handle this situation. We are currently working on treatment that was otherwise overlooked and taking precaution to mitigate any future issues! Not only is the lobby very spacious, but there is a smaller separate waiting room with plenty of seating for a littler more privacy. The building was very calm upon walking in, which allowed me and my sweet boots to be at ease. The staff are very friendly and happy to help! There was no loud barking and it didn't give off any anxious vibes. There are various brochures and reading material as well as a coffee and water station while waiting.

We brought him to our local vet, Dr. O'Neill in Milford, he looked him over and said everything was okay. About a year later, I had noticed he was flopping his front paw to get up on the couch (yes we have stairs). We took him to our new vet, Dr. Jackson in Bethany. She didn't see anything wrong. Then approx. 6-8 mos. all of a sudden he couldn't walk. His legs were giving out and he was falling over. It was all 4 legs. We returned to Dr. Jackson, she did a back xray and referred us to Dr. Gaelano, a specialist at Shoreline Emergency in Shelton. Dr. Gaelano wanted to perform an MRI and a Spinal at a very high cost. We didn't have the MRI through her, we searched around and was told Dr. Burzon in Hartford was very good and half the price. Teddy had his MRI and Dr. Burzon told us he had slipped disks pushing on his spinal cord that control his legs. He mentioned steriods and surgery but when we wanted to pursue the steriods, he insisted on the surgery. My husband thought of physical therapy and called Dr. Jackson's sec'y. and she referred us to Dr. James in Meriden. What a "miracle" find and great vet is Dr. James. He put Teddy on steroids and pain meds and within a month he was walking and we were reducing the steriods and pain meds. Unfortunately, he squirmed out from between my legs and "cracked" his leg while wiggling out. I couldn't believe it. He couldn't walk on that leg. We immediately went back to our "savior" Dr. James and found out he tore his ACL. Dr. James performed the surgery and all was well for about a week. Then I let him out in the middle of the night a week after his ACL surgery and he took off on 3 legs and crashed and tore the other ACL. So week 2 he was having 2 ACL surgeries, the original one was a tightening up and the new tear. Of course I feel like an a**, because I didn't have him on a leash in the middle of the night. Dr. James is THE MOST WONDERFUL DOCTOR IN THE WORLD! He is caring, compassionate, considerate, understanding, and loves animals, as does his staff. He has had my Teddy Bear for 2 weeks now and has started the water therapy on him already. We pick Teddy up on 8/5/11. We don't know what we would have done without him, he truly is a "savior" of animals. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. James St. Claire.

With the combination of medication and water and laser therapy at TopDog, I'm happy to report she is doing great! Dr. James St. Clair ("Dr. James") and Martha, the Physical Therapist, take such great care of the animals they treat. They have experience with dogs with hip dysplasia and other joint issues; dogs that received major surgeries, such as back and hip operations; and extensive experience with paralyzed dogs. The main treatment clients seem to receive is water therapy. Dogs enter a tank with a treadmill track on the bottom. It's then filled with water to their underbelly. The treadmill and timer are turned on and they begin to walk. It doesn't matter if your dog likes water (my dog hates the ocean, pools, etc. but does great in the tank) and they don't even notice the treadmill track on the bottom. However, don't just go once or twice; building muscle takes time. During my first visit, I saw a 14 year-old black Lab. According to the dog's owner, before going to TopDog, she couldn't even go up a stair because of her bad hips. She now does more than 25 minutes in the tank once a week (1 min in tank equals 7 min on dry land), has built tons of muscle and goes up/down stairs. The tank offers a controlled environment for dogs to strengthen. (My dog's injury actually occurred on her regular walk just by running through some snow.) If you want to improve your dog's joint health, I would definitely give TopDog a call to see if their services can help their condition.
