We've been going to Wally's Subs for almost 30 years and have always had great experiences. However, a few weeks ago we ordered a 3 meat sub and upon getting home (20 miles away), we realized it only had turkey on it. When I called, they kindly apologized and offered to replace our sandwich the next time we came in. Today, when coming in to get the replacement sandwich and an additional sandwich, they wanted to give us half off a sandwich. Apparently, someone had changed their mind about how they wanted to handle our incorrect order from last time. This was after the gentleman working the counter consulted with whoever was in charge in back. When we responded with no, that's not what we were told, he said well I'm sorry, that's what I can do. We kindly said ok, we're leaving. The gentleman then said, uh, I mean, we can try to work it out, as we were walking out the door. I stop by here to take advantage of their daily sub specials. There are so many options to choose from and I've never found better combinations! I like the dive feel here because there is no way to feel like you're out of place, no matter what time of day or night. Every time I come into the zoo I HAVE to stop here. It's a little hole in the wall sub shop but don't let that fool you the subs are in my opinion out of this world good. If you stop here make sure you get it heated up because that is where the magic is. I have been coming here for over 10 years now and I'm surprised I haven't rated this place yet. Now that I've moved to Detroit when ever I come into town it's a must. Also they have a pac man table for a quarter a game which takes me back to my early childhood. Wally's is tucked away on the corner of 9th and Stadium, and you could easily miss it while driving by, but do yourself a favor and stop in for a nice lunch here. The subs are delicious, with fresh ingredients, such friendly staff, and great daily deals. I always go with my favorite - the small tuna sub, which is more than filling for me. Grew up going hear all the time when I was going to WMU. Went there for the first time in about 15 years yesterday. My favorite is the #59 and it is to die for. This place is the Cadillac of all sub shops. The bread is fresh. The meat is a cut above and served in a portion that has to be 3 times what you get at any chain shop. I had not eaten there since college days about 20 years ago. Was reminded again that they make some awesome subs with all the fixings. The really load up a sub....great bread....great meats! This was, by far, the most disappointing culinary experience I have ever had. I ordered the French Dip which is my most favorite sandwich of all time. It is one of the most simple sandwiches to make and Wally's managed to screw it up. First of all the sandwich was cold despite it being put in the microwave for some reason. The "au jues" was relatively warm because it was also put in the microwave but it was just water with beef bouillon partially dissolved in it. The sandwich tasted musky for some reason. The sandwich components(lettuce, pickle, tomato, etc) was stored in plastic tubs, unrefrigerated, in the open. As far as a french dip goes Arbys is better. As far as a sandwich shop goes Jimmy Johns or Jersey Giant subs is so much better. Don't waste your money here. read more

The sandwich was fine. The bread was more dense than I prefer for a sub. I also prefer a crusty bread which this was not. The staff was unwelcoming and unfriendly. The building has a bizarre layout and urgently needs to be renovated. I entered at 11:30 am for a small to-go order and finally left at at 11:50. It was not crowded. My order was called along with somebody else's. I asked which was mine and I was told with attitude that it was one big order that did not belong to me. As the restaurant emptied I was finally asked what I ordered. They unwrapped my sandwiches and said "I think these are yours". No apology, no thank you, no come again. Portion size(s) are big, they definitely don't sell you short on meat in a sandwich. Only downside is the staff isn't the friendliest. It's almost like buying a sandwich from Seinfeld's Italian soup nazi. I would of easily given them a 5 star rating but, pretty hard when the looks as if they can't stand their jobs. I have been going to this restaurant for 20 years. it seems the quality is getting less than what it used to be. lots of times the lettuce is brown on the subs. I went there yesterday and ordered a large sub. unfortunately when I got out to my vehicle and opened it up it had a hair in it the full length of the sub. I would suggest that when the people are cutting the meat they wear a hairnet. I definitely won't be going back for a long time read more

Just had my last Wally's sub. There was a time when Wally's was to die for but the past few years have brought nothing but disappointment. Every few months I gave him another chance & every time things just get worse. A 9-dollar, 3-meat sub should not be a "lettuce sandwich" with 1 slice of meat number one, 1 slice of meat number two, etc. I knew it was getting bad when watching Wally berate an employee for putting "too much" on a sandwich; right in front of the customer. Apparently he has had that discussion with all of them at this point. The one noticeable improvement is quicker service. There's never a wait in line like there used to be, (or is always the case at the Subway across the street). I wonder why that is? It's sad to see it go although the Galley died essentially the same way. In the face of competition, gouge the customer and cheapen the product. A textbook business school case of exactly what not to do. Two-stars cause it still tasted like it should but I suppose all good thing must come to an end. read more

I grew up on Wally subs and have always found their food to be great and prices reasonable. The last few times have been quite a disappointment. The prices have gone up over the year and thats understandable but wheres the beef ? My large sub along with the others I had ordered had two slices of meat. Since this isn't the first time this has happen I have to believe its pretty much the way they make their subs now. Unfortunately I will be looking for a new sub place.
