I know I don't usually do reviews on chain restaurants, but every once in a while there's an exception. I've eaten at HUNDREDS of middle eastern restaurants, and experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly. When my daughter mentioned this chain, and insisted I try it, I was very skeptical. I have to say, this was one of the better chain restaurants I've ever encountered. Every aspect of this place is worth mentioning. I've been to several of these since, but this place was my first. Every Pita Way I've been to has been the same. Super friendly staff that explains everything. Food that's very flavorful. Some of the best seasoned shawarma and fire fries, hands down. The place is always clean. Prices are comparable to other fast food places but with healthier options. I didn't 5 star this place because it is a chain restaurant. I save 5 stars for the little places you'd drive half a day for. These places are popping up all around. Hope to see you at one.

Place : I like how stylish the restaurant is, and the location is really good and easy to find. Staff : They were professional and friendly. Food quality : It's ok actually, I've tried so much better Shawarma sandwiches in other places. It had so many pieces of very dry meat. Prices : This is the obvious downside for this place ! I mean to have just a Shawarma sandwich for about $11 that's too much. And it doesn't come with a side at least. The menu prices also was kind of misleading for me, you would think a side comes included with the entree, but sadly no. You have to pay almost $4 more for any side. I know many other Shawarma places that sells a more delicious Shawarma for a much cheaper price in Kalamazoo. Overall : If this place keeps these prices like this, I don't think it will last. For me this would be my last visit.

Want something new? The food is yum! Didn't know what to get so I picked chicken and told them to throw on their recommendations. Win win, had some kind of chicken wrap, lentil soup and fries I'll be back!

Stopped in to try the place out. Clean and bright inside. Music was a little loud. Staff was friendly and helpful with the ordering process. The food was really flavorful and the portions were good. I had a Pita Way Bowl which I had hummus as the base with gyro a bunch of veggies and Fattoush dressing. For my side I had chips and garlic whip. Both my main meal and the dip were great. I give the place 5 stars for the food. The only reason I gave it 4 stars in the main review was the price. I felt that it was priced a bit high. But the food was fresh and flavorful.

    Detroit Chicken Shawarma

Oct 22. Ordered two Chicken Detroit Shawarma. When I opened the pitas there was only chicken and tourshi, nothing else.... No garlic, no lettuce , no pickles, no tomatoes . Thank you PitaWay for two pitas with chicken! Wont be ordering again.

This was so good. I made my own bowl and off recommendation from the staff tried the fire fries. Everything was so fresh tasting. Would go back again the next time I am going through Portage.

Bowl: yellow rice, white meat chicken, tabouli, cucumber, beets, onions, pita chips, chipotle fire sauce, garlic humus, lentil soup.

Very flavorful and the chicken was perfectly done. More fresh toping choices than at Chipotle. Their fire fries are perfect! The feta cheese and mild hot sauce give it a great kick. Great friendly service. Ok ambiance for fast food.

Tried the build your own Pita Way bowl. Food was good. Would give it another star but the price is a little expensive for what you get.

So I had the brisket sandwich. Several thick slices of a grayish brisket in a hoagie bun. No pickle or cole slaw to provide acid. No smoke ring in the meat. I suppose I should have known better and gone to another truck. As the older man was taking my cash for my order, he asked - I thought at first it was said tongue in cheek - if I minded if he slugged the younger man doing the food prep. In retrospect, maybe I need to have greater appreciation for the stressed lives of people doing food service while working inside small metal boxes. Even so, I left no tip. I added the spiciest sauce option at the counter. And the sauce was the best thing about the whole affair. The meat was delicate to chew but was too fatty. And there was more bun than protein. I expected more for $10. It was a mind numbingly inadequate sandwich. My girl said if I could dissect from the hoagie a piece of the meat both untouched by the sauce and with no obvious fat, she would taste a piece. She said the only descriptors she could think of was "a tender, tasteless chew." (Her experiences with brisket in the past have left her scarred because she believes everyone prepares brisket in Kalamazoo to chew like shoe leather.) So we left the half I didn't eat on top of a green trash bin and we watched the bees fight for it.

After taking the time, I really regret having not gone sooner. They have several flavors of sorbet & gelato, fruity or chocolatey. Anything from Strawberry Hibiscus to classic chocolate. The lady who runs the stop is very friendly and can also give samples from their cups! She explained that their gelato is hand made, and even the blueberries in it were fresh and hand-picked (She even warned me that there there is a chance a bit of stem might be stuck to a blueberry, but mine was perfect as the way it was). I tried the Blueberry-Lemon Green-tea Gelato. The lemon gelato was pleasantly sweet, creamy, and refreshing. The delicate touch of green-tea added depth and harmony between the sweet and tart lemon and flavorful blueberries. The flavors seem very strategically balanced while using a blend of the unique mixed with the familiar. In summary, it was delicious. The prices were also incredibly fair, and each order is about the size of 1 cup (although I think it's a better deal if you get 2 cups), but especially when out at a hot summer's day event, a small cup of gelato is the perfect accompaniment to go with a meal from a foodtruck. In addition, when I tried tipping the lady - she refused and returned my money with a short expression of their business's creed to their customers! Even though it was a small gelato place from a truck, I was truly impressed by everything this little business embodied from their commitment to fresh ingredients, the friendly service, and even the undying dedication to the craft. I highly recommend giving the Rollin' Gelato a try if you ever see it come your way.
