Very good food at a reasonable price. Would definitely go back. For a small town, Vicksburg has several very good restaurants.

3.5 stars for now!…read more My friend and I met here for brunch & coffee a couple of months ago. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, love that they implement the little "library" where you can take a book & leave a book. The fireplace is unique and pretty, too. They also have gifty goods that you can buy. The food was good, my friend enjoyed her quiche and I had a bagel with smoked salmon- there was a drizzle of a honey and I thought it was such a nice touch! I had wanted to try their lavender latte but they were out of the syrup. I tried their hazelnut instead and did not enjoy it at all. It tasted like sweet milk, it didn't seem like there was any coffee in it at all. To me, coffee should be the star and it just wasn't. My hope is that if I give them another try the coffee will be much better.

Vicksburg is too small of a market to attract a Water Street or a Starbucks, and so far there is no Biggby's. Windfall's only breakfast competitors are two traditional diners: Yogi's (situated a mile or so to the west) and Rise N Dine (downtown). We happened to meet our niece this morning, just by luck, so we ate and drank and caught up. The cafe has counter service. My girl had a water and the Grilled Breakfast Wrap (described as "bacon, egg, & cheese wrap grilled to a crispy outside & melted inside served with garden salsa"), our niece had a coffee and the Spinach Quiche, and I had a coffee and the Biscuit and Gravy. The breakfast entrees are all small plates and were priced as such ($3.95 - 4.25). The entire breakfast for the three of us was $17. We ate in what the cafe describes as its "Green Room." Though Prairie Street is a main thoroughfare into Vicksburg from the west, we didn't hear that much road noise. The food was yummy though I thought my coffee was stunningly bitter.

Inside is a vintage, home town feel with Vicksburg posters of sports teams on the walls, some corner TV's and sparse St. Patty's Day decorations. Our waiter was Nick, soon to buy out his father and become owner of the whole restaurant! He has worked his way up from dishwasher, cook, waiter, front of house and is now being taught the art of pie making by one of his long time pastry ladies. Nick says everything is good on the menu, especially the breakfast. My mom ordered a kielbasa scramble with onions, green peppers etc. she loved it. I went for the eggs Benedict Florentine. So good! Great hollandaise sauce that did not split and had just the right edge of mustard to sharpen the flavors. Delicious! We finished with some homemade pies with decaf coffee. Very happy we stopped and enjoyed a meal. Thanks Nick! We wish you and your restaurant all the best.

The staff was pretty nice and we saw at least two staff working really hard. Cons: -for $48/person the buffet was mediocre -the staff just stood around mostly and joked/talked. I'm fine with this as I was a server once but when it takes 20 min to get water after requesting and you see your server standing and joking for 10 min of those 20 min it's hard to think highly of them. However, I should explain that there were two staff members that we saw that were just flying around. There were a couple more that I saw moving quickly when I saw them so they could also be really fast workers. The problem was just contrast of half the staff not being that active in service was slow. We didn't even know what to do with the buffet and payment after being seated. Overall, I don't think I probably will return at least for a while until the staff gets trained better. I get the feeling it's just that they're young. I'm just surprised as at least when I was a server. I would've been told if you have time to lean you have time to clean or to start congregating.
