This Walmart is located near the Camino Mercado and Branch street exit near US101. I popped into this Walmart near Pismo/Grover Beach to get some snacks and water on my way up to San Francisco and ended up eating a quick breakfast at the McDonald's located inside. Being early on a Monday the store didn't seem to be so crowded inside but the parking lot had a decent amount of cars already in the lot. I was looking for some other things at the pharmacy area and just food so I didn't venture throughout the entire store but for the most part everything was easy to find and the displays were organized. I ended up getting a case of Dasani water and the associate seemed to have a problem scanning it in and I didn't noticed until I left that it wasn't on my receipt. PEEP CENTRAL (Pre-Easter Bunny) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This Walmart has a lower Weirdness Factor than most ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I never thought to write a FAN review about a Walmart...but here it is. Despite their other stores, the sometimes "otherworldly" customs of customers (or workers), I sometimes reluctantly come here out of curiosity, or a need for something, that is vastly overpriced in other stores, in this Uber-over-priced Coastal Area. Whole Paycheck, Cal Fresh, & others... can & do charge DOUBLE $$, or more for special items, like the plethora of "Better than Bouillon" varieties (super-great & cheaper, for all kinds of soup bases).... but I noticed the online price for here & Taregot (& Kosko) was far far cheaper. Walmart (in store & on-line) was also way cheaper than Amazon, but Amazon does stock all the zillion varieties of Boullion. I did get & try the Lobster flavored one from the local Cal Fresh...but again, they wanted a "Claw & a Leg". ( a very yummy variety that I mix with Chicken & Mushroom Stock (or BTB) for a flavor orgy worthy of a decent Faux-Pho-like soup).... I rarely go to any Walmarts, but when I go, I go when they are not too busy & when I need very specific items. Once I went at 3 AM for a Black Friday Sale, which was quite surreal & entertaining for sure. Another time, I came specifically for the now rare 100% cotton socks! Since I am food oriented, I somehow always check out the growing food section, when I come to get their generic ziplock bags. They always seem to add yet another aisle of prepackaged stuff.....at very reasonable prices too. They also now have a huge selection of canned Seafood that goes way beyond most of the local supermarkets & they do include: Real (NOT FARMED, NOT PINK) Canned RED SALMON... and at great prices to boot! I love a good Salmon Salad Sandwich, when I am in the mood. I was also shocked to find... CAVIAR ? Well OK, it was not Russian....but still.... They also have Fage & a few other good Yogurts, as well as, a good Dairy & Egg section. Sadly, they have almost no fresh fruits nor veggies, but I did grab a decent box of Kiwis. ~~~~~~~~~~ Anyway, I came here right before Easter & they had tons of multicolored Peeps & other stuff right by the door.... NO ONE CAN RESIST PURPLE PEEPS!!!! (I do not eat them, but do enjoy giving them away to people, worthy of Peeps) Hell, it was cheap enough here. 99 cents? I also grabbed some higher end Easter special Chocolate...just in case, we had surprise company visiting. The Purple Tulips that had yet to bloom, that I also picked out....blossomed into a spectacular display.... ~~~~~ I did come here for only a few jars of "BETTER THAN BOUILLON", but ultimately left with a half a cart of stuff.... which totalled about $70, I think..... Check out was quick & friendly! Wow! now if this very same cart was run through Whole Paycheck...or even CalFresh.. Just stopped here on Thanksgiving day to use the restroom and get something to eat. I didn't go very far into the store but I'm very glad they were open on a holiday. The store looked clean and tidy, the restroom was fine. I was disappointed to find the McDonalds in the store didn't have shakes or ice cream because their machine was broken. I know I see that in memes all the time but hadn't ever actually encountered it myself until now. One star off for that. If you want to meet the worlds hardest working man, Walmart in Arroyo Grande is the place to be. This sweet, charming, and spunky young man named Levi went above and beyond any customer service expectation I had. Levi helped me to choose a bike for my son's 5th birthday. I was super happy with the advice and deal I ended up getting. As I was walking out of course I see Levi escorting an older lady (maybe mid-80s) with a bag full of groceries and new bike out to her car. I'm thrilled with the experience that I had here, and I strongly encourage action to promote that young man to manager. read more

WOW, this store was once a pleasure to shop. What a disaster it has become, did you change Leadership? I spent 42 years in grocery retail and can honestly say you are missing out on thousands of dollars of daily revenue. The shelves are empty in multiple categories daily... Have even tried changing my shopping days without seeing any improvement. Categories are a disaster.... Went in to buy a microwave meal to take back to our hotel and a video game to play that night. Picked out the game I wanted (Miitopia) for $10 less than it costs on the nintendo eshop! Service in electronics was good, the man with a hollow knight pin was friendly and checked us out quickly. Our experience in electronics was what saved this place from a 1 star review. Then we went to look for some food and were shocked at how few options there were? There was only 2 refrigerated isles and a few non refrigerated ones. I genuinely can't believe how little food selection this place had, especially since the place is HUGE! It's bigger than my local walmart, but has maybe 1/8th of the food selection. I know walmart isn't only a grocery store, but isn't that supposed to be part of the selling point? I am not a random traveler I am a local and went here to get a Serta Memory foam mattress in the box the cost on it is 400+ when asking for the help of a associate I was told that just because it says they have it online don't mean they do, then I said well maybe go check in the back the lady went to the back and came back with a excuse of why it can't be got. She stated " it is in the back on the top shelf and they are unloading a truck back there so nobody can get it for you." Ok so normally I would give this store a negative 100 stars because most of the employees suck and they act like they own the place.. but today is I think the first time I left Walmart and wasn't highly irritated. I went through the line and my cashier was I believe Sherri. I could tel that her feet were killing her and still she was super pleasant.. The customer service is very rude and make you feel like your the scum ...I had just bought 2 fitted sheets last night I opened one of the sheets to put on my bed and it had some discoloration on it like bleach spots. Very rude warehouse manager Raylene unprofessional attitude. First they see you at the gate ringing a bell and not one person comes for at least 3 min. This affords me the opportunity to shop, especially at off hours, without the inconvenience of being unable to find parking. Hire more people. Get them the tools they need: how to use the intercom, each member to have a radio, under age employee have another person over 21 years old that can cover them when they can't sell liquor ( they both take their breaks at the same time), proper training(don't go to break with the keys, hand them off to manager), have more open checkout lines, train staff to work different departments, train managers properly, manage staff communication, improve customer service, and don't have staff afraid of missing their break or getting in trouble for going late as they are taking care of their customers. This place is lacking leadership, blind leading the blind. Not enough knowledgeable staff! Two days in a row we came as we were camping, as we waited for different things, this is what we noticed and heard from the employees. A 10-15 minute shopping turned to 50 minutes! No one had the keys, they'd went with the person a breaks, no one had radios, one didn't know how to use the intercom, our cashier was 17 years old and we put our beer back as he could not ring us up. The manager was looking for the key to override the sell, after 5-6 minutes we said forget and didn't purse the beer. The lady at the electronics kept complaining to whoever would hear her " I have to go on break, I have to check out", kept looking at her watch, kept using the intercom for help and no one came! The next days it was worse, as we waited for with staff for additional help, they complain of lack of training, lack of management and structure, but hardcore of clocking in and out, complained to us and lacking supplies and not enough staff! Once again this place! Every week for the past 3 years I've been coming here. During COVID I switched to self check out when my checker was fussing with their mask and touching their face in between every scanned item. For their safety and my own I went to scan my own items from then on. Now these friendly neighborhood associates harass me every week I'm there. I've called corporate and called the store manager and even have text conversations with the manager that this would be resolved and it hasn't been. I My time is valuable to me. I also believe other patrons time is valuable to them. Every-time I get approached by these associates my patience for them wasting my time gets thinner and thinner. If I wanted to socialize I would go through the 1 checkout line where all the people who need cigarettes and booze to poison themselves would go, fortunately I'm not part of that crowd. read more

It's honestly not shop-able to the point I walked in and left without buying anything today. The isle are getting smaller and smaller making it almost impossible to fit two carts in the same isle, if someone has a wheelchair then no one can fit down it. Some of them are barely big enough to fit one cart through and still be able to look at items on the shelf. The shelves are stocked terribly and Consistently moving making it hard to run in to grab a few things quickly. The staff is nice but always so stressed out and unhappy. Something needs to change in this store. At the very least, make the isles wider so more than one wheelchair can fit down them. read more

This is the worst case scenario, even for a Walmart. You cannot get a cart easily because I was informed the store manager wants pallets blocking the carts. So you have to get a cart and wend your way through self checkout. Off to a bad start. This store has been undergoing "improvement" for 2 months now. Notre Dame is likely to be back in operation before this debacle is completed. This is obviously what happens when you go with the lowest bidder. They have narrowed the aisles to a ridiculous extent and then cram them with pallets. Went to store to buy tire chains. They had them on the shelves for $30 more expensive than online price. No one in store could help me get that price but they told me I should be able to order online and pick up same day. When I placed my order online i received email that I wouldn't be able to receive product until day after Christmas. Called customer service and have just been having my time wasted. First guy hung up on me. Second guy was great and allowed me to talk to a manager who told me that I need to tell the store to update their system. I asked her why I should have to be responsible for the store to update their system. She finally agreed that I was right and would have someone else call me in the am. Oh my goodness, Wal Mart. I only came to here for one reason. I saw that the refill price on propane bottles was considerably less than everywhere else. With that in mind I started mission tank refill. The parking lot was full, a bad omen at the start. I knew I didn't want to lug the empty tank around so parking near the bunker that inprisons the refill bottles was ideal. It After winning the game of Frogger in the parking lot. I was only met by one person selling chocolate bars for some nonsense and no sort of recognizable affiliation. Strolling through the doors a row of carts was waiting for shoppers as they walk in the door. I didn't need one I was just going to pay for a bottle exchange, remember? I grabbed a cart and went on my way. Now that I had a cart Walmart was my oyster! I really didn't want to be in Walmart so I just kind of headed towards the coolers. I guess I was looking for some beer for the garage fridge. After walking the aisle twice I only saw two things that would work for me. Lagunitas 12 pack pretty reasonable price and negro modelo also a reasonable price. I scooped them up and then headed back to the line. I chose what seemed the shortest line I could find. There were very few lines open given the time of day. I waited in line forever, not Sandlot forever but really a long time. Payed for my bottle exchange and the cashier said just ask the guy at the door for your propane. She didn't actually volunteer that I asked her. Anyway guy at door says guy outside with vest and carts and guy outside with vest and carts said ask his coworker the other guy in a vest with carts. The second guy with the vest in carts does this even make sense? #2 we'll call him showed up at the bunker with the keys. He heaves the bottle out and plunks it on the ground. I scoop it up into the cart and burn rubber through parking lot with my treasures. Mission Accomplished! I did it. Was it worth it? Yes I saved a few bucks on the propane refill. Was it worth it? They tricked me into grabbing a cart so I bought some beer, beer that I otherwise would have left in the cooler had I not been so easily provided a shopping cart. I saved money overall if I had been planning on purchasing everything that I put in my so easily acquired shopping cart. I should have just gone where I regularly go and I would of ended up saving money. Plus I wouldn't have waited in a six flags sized line to spend my loot. Maybe someday I'll learn. read more

My apologies for the extra lengthy review! I typically do not air my concerns online, but the managers left me no other choice: On Monday, December 11, 2017, my son and I visited the Arroyo Grande Walmart for the sole purpose of choosing names off the Senior Citizen Mitten Tree and purchasing gifts for those recipients. We chose three names: Robyn, Mark and Dexter. I took a picture of my son holding the Mitten names because we wanted to promote this worthy cause on our Social Media accounts. In all, we purchased two flashlights, two large tins of Christmas cookies, two large men's T-shirts, a package of men's socks, and two candy canes, totaling close to $60.00 (please see the attached store receipt: Ref # 734500259741). As a single mother, I work very hard to provide for my son and myself, but I also want to instill in him the importance of helping others, especially those in need. To ensure the items went to the appropriate recipient, I made sure our cashier, stationed at Terminal # SCO11688, bagged the items in separate bags, tied each bag closed and secured the corresponding mittens to their respective bags. The cashier then called up another associate to take the bags to the back of the store. A little over a week later, on Thursday, December 14, 2017, I returned to the Arroyo Grande Walmart to pick up mine and my son's Christmas cards from the photo center located at the back of the store. As I walked past the Senior Citizen's Mitten tree, a familiar name caught my eye: Robyn. The reason this name caught my eye was because of the unique spelling. I took the mitten off the tree, turned it over, and sure enough, it was the exact same card! I searched the rest of the tree and found Mark's card had also been repositioned on the Mitten tree. I did not find the third recipient's card, but at this point, I was so distraught over my discovery, I went to find a manager. I first spoke with the customer service manager, who then called the front end manager up (forgive me for not having her name). This second manager was neither apologetic nor helpful; in fact, she was rude and combative. As I tried to explain the situation, she cut me off mid-sentence and said, "We have nothing to do with that tree or the mittens placed on it". I told her to allow me to finish, so she did, after crossing her arms. Once I was finished explaining the situation, she said, "What do you want me to do about it." I told her I would go out to my car, retrieve my receipt, and they could refund my money for the items purchased. She said she would not refund my money. I then told her it I thought, perhaps, one of her employees had put the items back on the shelves and returned the mittens to the three, to which she responded, "I stand behind any one of my associates. None of my employees would ever do anything like that!" I then suggested maybe the organization who manages the tree was at fault, for which she said I was happy to contact them. I took the following picture of the letter attached to the mitten tree, but there are so many names associated with this program, I did not know who to contact. As I became more upset, this manager then called up the store manager, Shelly Wallace. At this point, I was in tears standing in the store entrance. The store manager, while she expressed some concern and remorse, was no more helpful than the previous two. It was clear I was not going to receive the type of help and support these two store managers should have offered, so I left with the mittens. After giving myself a few days to calm down and process this experience, I have decided to contact every name associated with this Mitten tree, as well as Walmart's Corporate Offices. While the total amount purchased was only $60.00, the fact that a program meant to help others, especially at this time of the year, is recycling recipient's name cards on their giving tree is an atrocity! I was so disheartened and discouraged when I discovered the names had been placed back on the tree, but I was enraged and shocked by the lack of empathy and desire on the part of the Walmart managers to make this situation right. I should not have to be the one spending my time researching and contacting all parties involved. That should have been offered to be done by the Walmart managers. If Walmart is going to host a fundraising effort, such as the Senior Citizen's Mitten Tree, they ought to have some accountability for how it is run and managed. At this point, all I want is to shed light on the corrupt nature of this experience. I do not know if it was Walmart or the associated organizations that are recycling recipient names on this giving tree, but the public should be made aware so they can make an informed decision as to whether they want to contribute to this cause, or to continue shopping at Walmart.
