Passing through town and we eyed the Nordstrom Rack sign while traveling on Highway 101. We decided to stop since the Hubs needed a belt. We dropped in on a weekday early evening. It was located in a complex with other stores such as Cost Plus. The Nordstrom Rack interior was modern, clean and organized. A lot of square footage too. It had a large inventory. Not sure if this was the norm or just caught them on a good day after restocking. Hubs left empty handed. But not me. I scored. Bought a few Caslon brand tops at bargain prices. I thought I would give them another try. I purchased some jewelry here only for the color to last a week. Manager tells me well it's costume jewelry, well no **** Sherlock, but it should last longer than a week. After having to go to bat they advised they would return. Although it was well within the 40 day window they didn't want to because it was worn. Well sorry, you need to stand behind the quality of your product! Be very mindful of their return policy! If they don't stand behind their product and you used your credit card, go right to the credit card company! Horrible value for only lasting a couple wears. I really loved my visits to Nordstroms But on Sunday I entered Nordstroms like a child on Christmas morning as my granddaughter had given me a gift card to Nordstroms for $100 on Christmas. She bought it from Albertsons , which Nordstroms contracts with as "a 3rd party" to sell their property which is the gift cards. We are going to a 55th class reunion , so my gift card and I went to purchase my gift. At check out the cashier scratched off the wax coating on the brand new card to get the secret code , she typed it into the register and tells me that the card is empty, there's no money on the card at all.. I said you scratched it off , you saw it. It's never been used.. She looked at me and said "sorry", but there's no money in it.. I said well then you need to call a manager over here now, please. After an hour and a half of discussing this with them, and they got a callback from the corporate and said that the card had been used to buy a group of items with several 100 dollar gift cards. That it was definitely hacked by someone else. The manager went on to explain that they scratch off the waxy cover to the code and then put the wax back on and send it on the store . So that tells you that it had to be an inside job by the third-party company employees the compromised that card . They said it happens quite often, they're aware of it but it's too bad for me. They can't do anything about it. They know I did not use that card. They admitted it. I had to request they involve corporate , after I become visibly upset. I got an email back from corporate a day later and they said "so sorry, but we can't do anything for you. File a police report". I think they're a terrible , terrible company. They sell those cards knowing that they get compromised all the time and they don't care about their customers. So they can't afford to take $100 hit , how do they expect a retiree , my husband's a veteran and my granddaughter is early 20s and they stole $100 from her. Nordstrom's did because they knew when they sold those third-party cards they're going to be compromised. They said it themselves, it's heartbreaking , now I have to go tell my granddaughter that $100 gift was robbed for me. I have been shopping at Nordstrom's for 50 yrs. But I just hadn't used the gift card and I was going to make a big purchase so I thought it was perfect timing to do so.. but I will never shop at Nordstrom's again. I hope anyone else that doesn't find it necessary in their life to go there will avoid them.. That's the end of gift cards for me and I'm going to tell my family don't buy me gift cards and I will not buy them gift cards. I saw them hanging in the stores saw promises of fun now I see BLANK, nothing in them but lies , broken promises by the very company on the front so disappointed in Nordstrom's. I was at another store near by and said to my husband, let's see if The Rack has any luggage. We needed a large suitcase (extra one) for an upcoming trip. Did not want to spend a lot of money as we usually only use 1 large, even when gone 3 weeks. But where we are going, needed warmer, bulkier clothes. So decided just to walk around the store and found some luggage in the back. Luckily was found one, yes just one that we liked. Lightweight, wheels that spin and a dark color. First time at a Nordstrom Rack and I can truly state Wow! There is no discombobulation with regards to set-up, cleanliness. Every product has its rhyme and reason. Service is fantastic! Selections are great. However, you need to know the value of what you're looking for to know you're getting a true deal. Luggage right now is 25 to 70 percent off. I purchased 2 TSA approved, Travel Choice, carry-ons for $90.00 each; TSA locks; body is hard shell and durable; the wheels are fantastic! They are smooth, roll 360 perfectly. The luggage is also very lightweight. I'll be returning to check out other items. You never know what you might find. Plus! Markdowns even more next week! (12/18) week before Christmas. A new "Pseudo-Ross's" with "Pseudo-Brand Name" selection...next to our best Farmers Market? A somewhat "welcomed" "pseudo-upscale" addition to SLO County and the Madonna area shopping scene. We decided to check out this store right after shopping at the next-door site of the Saturday Farmers Market [every Saturday 8AM to 10:45AM]. Sadly, I need to deduct one star for the decision to hinder and push away the location of the Farmer's Market. It is now "pushed away" from the store fronts and could be due to some of the newer vendors in some of the building including the Hobby Lobby. Hindering our beloved Farmers Market on "off" hours is petty at best. In fact, many of these shoppers would not even bother going to this Nordstrom store unless they were already here for the Farmers Market. In any case, as opposed to most, if not all, local stores, there were at least 3 uniformed security guards hanging out in front of the outside of the store. It was likely more for show, than effectiveness. It was vaguely annoying and incongruent with the SLO local scene. There was no flash mob in sight. The only huge group of people were the locals at the Farmers Market, who were hardly disruptive...and more focused on locally grown/made produce or products. Inside, the store appeared generally rather pleasant, except for maybe the excessively large shoe section, which was congested. The selection was interesting but tended toward rather overpriced junk with Pseudo-designer labels. We found nothing that we wanted to buy. If one even looked at something like New Balance sneakers, they were not discounted all that much, were generally ugly, and made in Vietnam, Indonesia. None were from the USA. I am well versed in New Balance and have worn the 100% USA made ones for decades. Some of the ones that can cost $200 or more are still excellent choices....but are hardly available here at all. In fact, most of the sneakers looked poorly made and overpriced even with an outlet discount. While we found a random hat that my honey liked and one single Ralph Lauren pajama that I liked, most of the well stocked store was a general disappointment. In general, it was nowhere near as fun, nor as useful as our local TJ Max, Marshalls, or even Ross's. There was no food, nor bath nor kitchen items. Unless one is specifically looking for over-priced somewhat generic copies of poorly designed "designer items" for the masses, there was not much of use. While there were some sections of up to 70% off, again it was not impressive. There were some gaudy ugly women's bags or purses that were reduced from $300-500+ to about $100-200, but they were still unsold since they were still gaudy and ugly. The service person that we used in the middle of the store [CC only], was really nice and helpful, and it was a great option to avoid the all too congested front cash register section. Sadly, while the cashier was able to retrieve my account, that did not gain me anything...there was no additional grand opening discount, nor really anything special for a past long time Nordstrom customer....just ordinary points from the current purchase. To sum things up: 1) Service = Excellent 2) Selection = Limited to lower end items/ e.g. No USA made New Balance. 3) Value = Poor The one thing that helped a bit, was that we were able to get Farmers Market incredible food just dozens of yards away, then browse here and there at some of the stores, and then finish are food shopping at Sprouts. read more

More of a "fashion" store than most of the discount stores in SLO, this Nordstrom Rack features the same high quality merchandise that can be found in the Nordstrom department stores. Known for their shoe department, this store does not disappoint, and I felt that they best represented their selection of merchandise here. This is not your everyday athletic assortment of merchandise, rather, these are more hybrid fashion shoes, not always the most practical, but certainly making a statement. I was attracted to some silly blue bejeweled sandal high heels, with long cuffs. Not much use for about town in SLO, but fun! Not all is frivolity, however, a friend of mine was there with his two daughters and they actually got some very practical all-white Nike and Converse tennis shoes for a Barbie hip-hop dance number that they are learning at their dancing lessons. Nordstrom is all about quality, which sometimes leans toward the somber hues of their dresses, and to my mind, makes them a bit matronly. I did find some cheerful more SLO-CAL type numbers on the racks. The snappy garden print jacket and pants caught my eye, as did the rainbow display of genuine leather handbags near the window. The discount designer make-up also looked worth a further investigation. I have always enjoyed their accessories, and it is fun to peruse the imaginative high fashion scarves and jewelry. This is newer to San Luis Obispo, but I am so happy it is here. This, Nordstrom's rack is mostly full of clothing for the family. They have a lot to offer in this area but a big downside is their plus size section. In the men's and the women's, I was able to only find a small circular rack that didn't have too much to offer for people who need those extended sizes. I also found the same for extremely petite people. The extra smalls and petite clothing were also a few and far between. I think this is a shame, and I definitely feel like it does exclude some people who would truly love to go and shop there. The home decor section is on the smaller side, compared to other Nordstrom rack stores that I have visited, but what they have is nice. What I really love about this Nordstrom rack location is the shoe section. They have plenty of shoes in all sizes. From the very small to the very large. I love that anyone could go and shop there for shoes no matter (For the most part) how long or short, your feet may be. My husband has very large feet, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of shoes they had to offer from dress shoes to flip-flops and casual sneakers. I'm excited to see how this store changes and grow as it is here in the community and I will definitely be back. read more

Visited this location a few weeks back wanting to purchase shoes and new bras. I was happy to find the brand of bras I was looking for and some sizes to try out. Unfortunately, I was told that you can't try bras on in their dressing rooms. I was given no explanation other than it's store policy and even the staff don't understand why. I could purchase them, drive 20 miles home to try them. If I needed to return them I would need to drive 20 miles back to the store and then home again. I reached out to customer service and they were just as confused as I was, especially since Nordstrom stores (not Nordstrom Rack) offer in-store bra fitting as a service to customers. I never find anything in this store worst shoe department their selections like compared to other Nordstrom rack locations. I had heard through a few friends and by viewing Yelp reviews that the selection was sparse and that service was horrible. However, my experience today was the opposite. They have a large inventory, a variety of offerings of mid- to high- quality items at discounted prices and the staff was pleasant. Considering the lack of high quality / affordable clothing store options in SLO county, this was a refreshing experience. A few products appeared to be flimsy and cheaply made, but there were other choices that were of a higher quality. I will return to this store, as needed for an update to my closet. This is Nordstrom Rack, not Nordstrom. Perhaps some of the negative reviews of this store are because some people are expecting Nordstrom? I don't know. But I will return. read more

Store aisles are too tight! Us ladies couldn't pass each other in the same row especially not with a cart! Ladies bathroom had only 2 stalls in bathroom and 1 was out of order. PEARI was our first cashier our first time being in that store she helped us get approved for a credit card. Which she explained we could use in the next purchase. We decided to return the item after getting our promotion to redeem it . But when we went in our second cashier name " LIA " she was so rude told us we couldn't use the promotion . Which she went after " PEARI " and started being rude infront of us & the rest of the customers which was really uncomfortable to watch " LIA " do that. There was no necessary to do that. I bought a very expensive dress from Nordstrom on-line. I received it last night, tried it on this morning, and unfortunately it wasn't right for me. I went to return it and the sales associate Parveneh Y. was so kind and started the return. Her manager came up and said she couldn't return it due to a certain tag had fallen off. She did offer me a gift card, but I will be out the $650. It was very obvious I hadn't worn it and all other tags were on it. Parvaneh took my number and said she would speak to the merchandise manager and call me. I didn't expect a call, but she did call me and told me they would be doing the return. Used to love the Rack, and was excited to get one near me. However, it was such a disappointment! As someone who worked at Nordstrom's, I enjoyed the high quality and natural fiber clothing and the leather shoes. But now the clothes are just as plastic/artificial as everywhere else and many of the shoes as well. The styles were not attractive either. Such a shame, I couldn't find anything worth buying.
