I like it. The main disadvantage is that this location is the old Bradlees dept store. The selections in Walmart always vary from one location to another. The bigger Walmarts which are the supercenters always have more. I my immediate area the super centers are either in New Haven CT or Wallingford CT. read more

If I could give this Walmart 0 stars I would! I'm legally blind, I came to this store for a couple things because I can't drive. So I have easy access to this store and I can use my walking stick. While in the store, the string came out of the handle. I went to a few different people asking for help. First electronics, explaining that I'm "legally blind" and need help fixing my stick. I was told to go to the pharmacy, but the women there didn't even help. All I needed was a screwdriver or something to get the string through the hole of the handle. I wish I was treated better, because I use this stick to get around, it's no laughing matter. Even contacting another employee to help would've been nice, but no one did that. read more

While we were in the check out line purchasing our item.. there were some employees having a personal conversation and using some distasteful language. I've been to this store maybe 5 times. Staff and customers are a mixed bag. I've had a couple of pretty helpful workers, but on the whole staff is rude and cocky. Tonight I went to the self-checkout and none of the checkouts had lights on. There was no one in line and people at most of the terminals, so I headed to the empty one and the worker simple said, "No". No what? no cash? No cards? No explanation. This kid half my age talked to me the customers like a child. I wish I could give this crappiest of Walmart stores a 0 review. It's dirty, too small, very little product and unfriendly salespeople. They also have a very annoying Greeter who has to greet you at the door with "Good Morning" and if you don't say "Good Morning" back, harasses you. Was looking for moving boxes and found a bunch for $1-$1.50, check. Looked for some good quality paper towels and toilet paper but everything on the shelf was at least $3-$4 with many over....i think they try to get you to buy in bulk but would be nice to have a few smaller options. They had some 50cent rolls of paper towels but not sure of the quality. I try to avoid walmarts in general, shopping experience is not as efficient and a little drab But points for no hassle return policy, can still get gift card if u lose ur receipt read more

Particularly because of COVID, I would give zero stars if I could. Women's restroom did not have any soap at all. All of the soap dispensers were empty. One dunk did not have running water. One did. I will NEVER shop at this store again, I don't even know where to begin, lets start by saying they sell empty boxes for $50 dollars. Obviously their return desk or their security team needs to step up their game. Last month I found a gallon of used motor oil on the shelf someone had returned, now I buy a birthday present for someone and was totally embarrassed when they opened the gift and the box was empty. I sent my husband back to the store and they basically accused him of stealing the product and threw him out of the store.The employees are RACIST and rude and the store is the filthiest I have ever been in. Where should I start.. I happened to be in the area and figured I would stop at this location for a few things. First, the place does not have much of a selection, if anything they are missing a lot of things that most other Walmart's have. Second, their small frozen food section really doesn't have much to it which was surprising. Lastly, out of the many employees working there, there weren't any cash registers open except for self check out. I couldn't believe it! I personally dislike self checkouts because I am a job supporter for human people. I don't think I'll be visiting this particular location ever again, I question how they are even in business. read more

My review of this Walmart (Hamden, CT) comes from a special place. Brace yourself, because you're in for a manifesto. You see... I grew up in Texas, where the protocol is that two very important things must happen to every child: 1. You're taught to have immeasurable pride in the Lone Star State and just about everything that stands upon it, and 2. The "bigger is better" mentality is permanently seared into the core fibers of your soul with a branding iron. So, naturally (and I hate to admit this given how many Americans absolutely HATE everything Walmart) I have an affinity. :) Haha, I actually used to get excited to go to Walmart as a child, opted to frequent the establishment for no reason at all as an adolescent, and am willing go out of my way to shop at Walmart as an adult. Yes, you might think I'm a loser for this, but in my mind - and true Texan fashion - I'm a winner. I WIN when I go to Walmart in Hamden. I'm always able to find what I'm looking for (possibly because the generic Walmart blueprints have imprinted into my brain). This Walmart can be cluttered, but it's Walmart... And I think of Walmart's as reasonably cluttered mega stores where I accept the fact that items aren't organized by color. I've never had any problem with customer service there, the employees are always friendly with me and do their best to help me if I need. For those that have issues with employees or complaints, there's even a Walmart Customer Service Line: 1 (800) 925-6278 available for use. How considerate of them! My expectations when I come to Walmart in Hamden is to be able to find what I need, and then some! Walmart is big, sells a lot of big stuff, and that's better to me. Plus, there's the Walmart app, that has the savings catcher, so you can scan your receipts and get money back if you paid more for an item at Walmart than you would have paid at another shop nearby, which is HUGE -- and another WIN in my book. I have no affiliation or ties to Walmart at all, I just like going to a place that has a wide variety of products, at decent prices. Yes, the Walmart in Hamden could be a little more organized, try and re-shelf items in their proper locations, and sweep the floor a bit more often... But to me, that would take some of the experience out of the experience. I plan to review more Walmart's in the future, because this was fun! This place doesn't even deserve one star. Wow, this place is just so poorly run. It isn't that dirty, it's just the fact that the last time I visited, I had to stand in line for 15min to check out! The lines were so long that they were going into the shopping isles and they only had two checkers! It wasn't even Christmas or Thanksgiving it was a regular Saturday. And on top of all that once I got up to the front of the line, the price that was on the shelve and the price that rung up was off by 20 dollars! And when I tried to explain the difference the checker got all pissy at me and flips her light on. At that point I had had enough and just decided to cut my losses and pay the extra money. A very average Walmart. For this Walmart to be so big, you'd think it should be a super center. They are hit and miss in terms of if they'll have what you need. They need more check lanes. The employees congregate more than they help customers. They seem to be understaffed. They seem to watch you, seeing if you are going to try to steal anything. If you come during the weekdays you'll avoid the crowds. The parking lot is small as well. Slow returning stuff.

Wow. I am glad to read all the previous reviews and know that it is not just me that feels this way about this particular walmart. I literally live 2 minutes away, and I would rather drive 20 mins to the one in Wallingford where the staff is knowledgeable, open 24hrs and clean and organized. This place is horrible. Everytime I go, there is rude people working there. I even once had a very disturbing racial issue here. I went to the check out and the girl cashier (an african american lady) stared me down and did not say one word. And by one word, I am 100% serious. She rang me out, never said hello, thank you etc. The woman behind me in line was African American, and as soon as she came up to the register, the cashier's tone was 360 degrees different. "Hello mam!! How are you today? Anything I can help you with?" ETC. She glared at me as she was doing it like I was some second class citizen and was not up to her level. I couldn't believe this ignorant viewpoint was here. I was very upset, my boyfriend also realized and said something about it later on. The place is disorganized, and whenever you need help, good luck finding it. There are about 10 registers, and at any given time only 2 of them are open. The lines are so long they go into the aisles. I hate this place. read more

Wal-Mart, how I love you so. How you cradle me in synthetic fibers and drown me in cheap, generic soft drinks. One of the main hubs of my small town you are simply magnificent. I love Wal-Mart, I have no honest clue why people are embarrassed that they shop there. Everyone does! Of course you can just cut tags out and rip labels off, then no one knows. While it's no Target, Wal-Mart has every thing you could possibly desire at half the price you would get it anywhere else. Quality clothes, delicious food products, and seasonal goodies; Wal-Mart is the happiest place on Earth. This is for the Hamden store in CT only. In all the years I've been buying blu rays and dvds movies never have I been harassed to show ID for a restricted movie. I'm 44 years old with grey hairs in my beard and when asked to speak to the store manager was looked at like I was annoying her and no "I'm sorry". She told me I needed to go to my car and get my is. Ridiculous. No wonder that store has the smallest movie selection. Very annoyed by this. read more

The Quick and Dirty: Set aside 20min to wait in line if you're coming here (45 min if you're returning something). This is the most overcrowded and understaffed Wal-Mart I've ever visited. At best you'll find two cashiers and one service desk worker. The employees are nice enough, but there aren't many of them. If you have a lot of time and patience this is your Walmart. The prices are good in comparison to the other stores close by however my sanity and peace of my are a high price to pay. Generally they have 2 cashiers open and 5 hiding pretending to be closed. The management is equally inadequate because they allow this to happen daily. This is probably the worst Walmart I've ever been to. The check-out lines are always long and the staff is so unfriendly and lazy. I needed help in the photo department and the main girl there was on a break, so I asked someone in the neighboring electronics department and they wouldn't even give me the time of day and mumbled rudely about how I needed to wait until the photo girl got back. Customer service here is certainly not a priority to them. Don't even bother getting the Site-to-store shipping here either. I've done it twice - once my order was broken and the second time they couldnt even find my order in the back. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. It's worth it to drive a few extra miles further to any other Walmart in the area not to have to deal with this place. read more

This review is solely based on the employee David from the electronics department. I called to see if there was a specific bike in stock and he couldn't find it at first but he took my name and number down and said he would further look and call me back if he finds it. Later on in the day to my surprise he called and said he found it! I was so happy because this store was the only one who had it in stock as it was a clearance item pink bike for $49! Any other worker there would've said sorry no we don't have it and went about their day. But I really appreciate his great customer service and that puts an overall better rating for everyone else in the store who couldn't care less to even crack a smile at a customer. Most especially the cashiers up front who are so miserable and just hand you the receipt without saying have a good day or anything. read more

This Walmart sucks. I do like Walmart as a whole, but this one is just not a good one. Rarely you'll find someone to help you and the store just feel run down in my opinion. The people that work there that I have encountered are not the friendliest and Walmart in general isn't inexpensive. In all honesty, it is the same price as any of its competitors and you can often find what you are looking for a better price elsewhere. The only thing this Walmart and Walmart as a whole offers is convenience not price (or anything else). This one is the closest one in my area and that is pretty much the only good thing I can think of to say about it. I have been to better Walmarts. read more
