This Walmart is where all other Walmarts stock goes to die! It is never fully stocked, it's like a dirty tag sale! It is completely disorganized ( for ex. Lingerie Dept looks like someone opened up boxes & through it everywhere! No rhyme or reason to style, sizing etc. ) The staff is the most unfriendly, disinterested, and unhelpful bunch of simpletons they could hire. Robots are more efficient & have more personality! If you want to get a large doze of aggravation & prejudice, then this is the store for you! Is the Hamden store some kind of tax write off or just the towns way of saying, "We have no class"? Ok I have to go now, I'm going to clean out my basement & dump the junk in Walmart. It'll blend in nicely! read more

This store is the worst in the area. It's always crowded and short staffed. I went for bread and soda because I was already in the area. They did not have either item available. The store was also full of children running around with absolutely no supervision. Security! I went to Stop & Shop across the street. It was a little more peaceful. read more

I have never seen a Walmart so poorly managed. We avoid it and go to Wallingford or Naugatuck. Staff is not friendly. It appears that everyone would rather be somewhere else. hamden connecticut wal mart never again . rude employee's ..When you first walk in there is ALWAYS a long line at the service/ returns desk..the people working returns are cold and rude . the store always has holes on the shelves , always something on the floor to trip over ... inventory is very weak ..maybe there is a high level of theft but many items are not stocked that are found in other area WalMarts. if they closed this store i would not miss it one bit . I am surprised that is took me so long to rate Walmart in Hamden. I will start off by saying that they do have people at the door greeting you now, so that is a step up I guess. As the other reviewers said, I will go to target or another town to avoid this store, especially at night. I have been in Hamden for 44 years, and it is sad to see how it has changed, especially near Walmart etc. Loud music with nasty lyrics etc, I had to plug my sons ears the other day. The employees are rude, loud and are allowed to swear and act like they are out on the street somewhere. I usually get long with everybody, and I have friends of all colors, but I agree with the other woman about being treated differently when checking out. This store gets a bad rep. A lot of the people who work here are a great help and extremely friendly.

As far as "Walmart" goes, I've definitely been in better. Also been in worse. Most of the staff I've run into is quite rude. I'd avoid the website store pickup at all costs if you can. You'd get help faster by applying for a job there and helping yourself. The only employee I've had a decent experience with so far are the ones who oversee the self-checkout registers, they've been helpful and generally pleasant. read more

Very poor service, products are commenly damaged or broke before really even getting a chance to use it. They do have great deals though! But the other customers are usually very ignorant and rude! The manager could care less about the customer. My sister ate some food from here and got food poising and was hospitalized and the manger didn't care and didn't remove the product from the shelves allowing others to buy the spoiled food probably resulting in more food poisining cases. He had ever admitted that they don't store there meat and refrigerated products correctly... be careful with what you buy from this place. read more

I can't even count this as a review bc it's just plain pathetic. I asked for the location of an item and was direction to the location. Asides from that I also went to the toys department where I saw two teenagers with book bags on opening a package and stealing its contents. I quickly notified a associate.... Their reply,"it happens all the time that's why we are a high theft store." They literally did nothing. I finally proceed to check out where there are two cashiers open lines into aisles. This walmart is very small & barley has any of the things most other walmarts carry on hand. the shelves are neat & clean but they never have anything in stock. The pharmacy staff is very nice, i suggest you call ahead before you come to make sure your prescriptions are ready . read more

Came here today and perused the toy section, even though the UPC codes were ripped off the manager refused to discount the product, very unprofessional, prices also did not match what was quoted on the Wal-Mart app on my phone. I will keep my dealings here at a minimum. read more

Walmart sucks in general. They attract some of the worst people. This one is just awful all the way around. The people who work there dont care about much of anything. The shoppers dont either as you see their handy work throwing products around, picking things up and just dropping them off in random aisles etc etc. Pigs. I wish theyd remove the store from Hamden. This is probably the smallest Wal-Mart that I have ever visited and is definitely the smallest in the area. I would not come here for any food items really. It is hit or miss for what they have in selection. The customer service is a mixed bag. Once, this kind woman went in the back just to grab us a pumpkin carving kit. Customer service like that at a Wal-Mart is almost unheard of! However, I applaud her for that kind, noble act. On the other hand, on another occasion, my partner and I were coming out of the store, conversing amongst each other, when the shopping cart pusher states in an as a matter of fact tone, "All these dudes sound like girls". My partner then turned around and asked him what he said, I wasn't even listening, but my partner was. He then replied, very quickly and defensively, "Not you, I was just thinking about something". I didn't realize what he said until we got to the car, but I knew that he was lying. Even if he wasn't lying, that is an extremely ignorant, homophobic statement to make, especially when you are working in a customer service oriented field. Upon returning home, I called the location to put in a complaint. I spoke to an associate First and told him what occurred, to which he then replied that he has also been a victim of this employee's homophobic statements and that he has been bullied in the workplace. How can Management let this type of behavior go on? I then spoke to the manager, who seemed relatively apathetic, but stated that he would handle the situation. Still unsatisfied, I called 1-800-Walmart to make a complaint. I first spoke to customer relations and was then transferred to the Ethics department. The representative in the Ethics department had no compassion, was unapologetic, and did not seem to understand the gravity of this situation. I truly hope that this situation is resolved in a timely manner so that this employee can learn to treat others with basic dignity and respect. Honestly I feel very uncomfortable about going back to this location if that's the way that these employees are trained and I shouldn't have to feel that way in a business that I am spending money in. I feel awful for the employee that has to deal with this intolerance in the workplace on a regular basis as well. As for any other employees or customers that feel threatened by this employee's behavior. If nothing is done to resolve this, I will be taking this case to the ACLU. read more

This store is so bad the HAMDEN Police have reserved parking ..seriously! service desk employee's are rude and never have a nice word to say...no hello ..no thank you... the store is a mess ...and the managers ore NOT managers of anything other than a store that I won't return to for any reason. shelves are a mess , out of stocks are beyond common ..don't bother looking for help ... there is none ..nobody says hello...the guy at the door may mutter something that kind of sounds like a hello or ...not sure what he says . this dump needs a total do over ...fire the sore, district and regional managers ..bring in corporate and fix this broken mess. read more

Terrible customer service. I called to purchase an item over the phone because there were two of the item in stock "online" for in store purchase only. I have small children and didn't want to bring them into the store due to the pandemic. I simply asked if I could do that and she was rude in asking why I can't purchase it online so I told her there wasn't an option. She laughed, then I told her the item and she said nope we have none. I nicely stated it says you have 2 online in store and she rudely interrupted me "it don't matter what it says I'm telling you no" why not state that is a mistake or something along those lines instead of being defensive and off putting to a potential customer? Then when I said "I was just letting you know it was on the website (and to maybe update it as to not confuse customers) you don't have to be rude" she began to become even more rude to me so I hung up. I went to Walmart, which mind you closes at midnight, at 10:45pm. I went to exchange a comforter set for a bigger size. Customer service was closed. I asked a woman about just exchanging and I will pay the difference. She had no idea what I was talking about. A gentleman who worked there said "nah you can't customer service closed and we can't do that". He was very unprofessional. Then another young man came and said the same thing. I purchased another comforter set the correct size and said I will refund the money tomorrow. The young man said "alright do you". First, why is customer service closed at 10:45pm and the store closes at midnight, and what kind of training does Walmart provide to have the the staff talk the way they do. Extremely unprofessional, pants hanging down, underwear showing, having personal conversations amoungst one another instead of assisting customers. I am a manager in the customer service field and if my staff looked and acted half this way I would not have a job and there wouldn't be a company. read more

i am giving them a 1 star rating only because is the lowest you can go! I am amazed at how POOR the customer service is in this store..... and God forbid you try to get anyone on the phone! I have just called in and for "fun" I stayed on the line 30 mins waiting for someone to answer! And when they did, 4th call... they put me in hold and disconnected me. In the store I have never seen employees in retail more soooo slowly or act as though they couldn't care less about the patrons needs. I just moved to Hamden and I was trying to look for thing I needed in my apartment. I went here because it was late, I needed food and other supplies for my apartment, and was the only store that was open during the time. I shop at Walmart all the time in Las Vegas and LA and found everything I needed, but this place lacked everything I wanted/needed. For example, it had no fresh produce section, one aisle of frozen foods, few aisles of regular foods. I was looking for season DVD's or movies because I had no internet at home, but they only had a couple racks of DVD entertainment. I was looking for specific items for my bathroom and kitchen, but did not have any. The Walmart back home was not a super center, was the same size, and had everything plus more! I'm not expecting this place to be the same as other Walmart's I've been to, but I wish they had more options and was more clean. read more

Love it when I ask an employee where something is and they give me a blank stare and then say they don't know what that is, and i have to explain to them what it is and what it might be inventoried with and they just flat out say umm I don't know where or what any of those are. And this is the type of business that opens up and closes down other small businesses, and these are the "stellar" type of individuals they have working there. Shame on you wal-mart you are a disgrace to all merchandise companies and the lack of customer service is despicable, I have no idea how or why you are still in existence. read more

I've never walked into this location and purchased what I was looking for. It's very disorganized and dirty. The check out lines are always long and slow. I try my best to avoid giving them my business but unfortunately it's the closest thing to me. Steer clear if you can. Target in North Haven is worth the trip read more
