Everyone reviews are correct. This place is really ghetto and disorganized. But, if you need something quick and cheap, they have it.

I wish I had come to yelp first. This Walmart is just as bad as the reviews say it is. The reviews don't do it justice. I hate to say it, but it's true. It should be black-listed. Save your time and energy. Go somewhere else. This is the first time I have shopped with Walmart in over a decade. I deeply regret it. I actually did not shop at Walmart myself - I received a gift through the mail purchased at Walmart. It is broken and I cannot possibly get anyone on the phone at this store to tell me if they have it in stock so I can exchange it. I wasted over a half-hour on the phone being transferred repeatedly, no one answering the phone and the phone simply hanging up on me. Million dollar company. Dirty a$$ store broken escalator, elevator, and the other elevator has a duck taped button panel. Ordered something off website and it was missing parts because they beat up the box and it broke open. Other than a return I try to never come here.. Two cashier on a Saturday... very lack of customer service... cashier are also very slow.

Would rate this store neg 0 if I could. I stopped shopping here because it is so disorganized ,the employees are rude and everything is locked up. I needed a pad lock the other day and no other place was open so I had to go to Walmart and when I went to bet the pad lock it was locked up so I had to find someone to open the case and give it to me me. The garden center outside gate was locked upon my entering. I entered sometime between 9:30 to 10:00 in the morning. They have plants outside for sale yet you cannot look. How can they sell the plants outside when the gate is locked, and you cannot enter? I entered the store this morning, and they had one of the department managers acting as a door greeter (He had his yellow Department Manager tag hanging just below his name tag). The man said nothing to the people entering, and exiting. He did not even acknowledge my presence even though he was looking straight at me. I came for some packaging tape, and noticed they also had the 125 foot rolls of bubble wrap on the shelf. When I looked at the shelf to see how much it was, there was no tag. I continued my shopping, and noticed several other items in the store not priced that were out on the shelves. People do not buy when they don't know how much something is. I used to work for Wal-Mart in the Midwest, and know they have a strict policy for pricing, and labeling the shelves. This store totally fails in this area. I have also been treated really rotten here after ordering an item online for store pickup. When you go to the internet pickup area, they never have a clerk there to help you. You have to wait for a long time before they get someone to help you. I've waited for a half an hour once. When I went to return the item because it was damaged, they told me I had to take the merchandise downstairs to the customer service desk. They flat out refused to do a refund for an online purchase at the internet service desk even though the item was ordered online for store pickup. They don't offer any assistance or offer to carry the large item you need to return either downstairs. I had to do it myself once. I prefer Target to Wal-Mart, and do most of my shopping there. read more

It's a shame that Hilltop mall that once was a Mecca of malls in the East Bay is now a ghetto shadow of itself. This Walmart and Macy's are probably the only two shops keeping the mall open, and if you've ever shopped at this Walmart then you already understand the problem with that statement. My review is based on the service I received at the Walmart pickup. The first time I went the lady was really nice. My second time all employee's were friendly. But one stood out. His name is Zachery. He's a young man. I really appreciate how special he made me feel as a customer. He went over & beyond what any other Walmart employee would do. He was so nice & helpful. This is what customers like myself luv. He makes me what to shop more often because I know if he waits on me I'm sure to receive 100% service. Atten Walmart, I have worked in customer service, management, & a cashier. I know how important having great ppl working for u or with u is. It will be ur loss if u don't offer training to Zachery for assistant manager now. U have a chance to have a great young man in ur company. If u start training him now one day he may very well be a Walmart supervisor. I don't like spending my money with businesses that hire slow, lazy, not friendly, unskilled, rude etc employees. And u better know that u have lots in ur company. But when I came to pick up my online order (3rd time yesterday) I saw Zachary again. He remembered me. He made my day. I give this store a 0 star. This store is the worse Walmart I have ever shopped in. The bathrooms are never cleaned, it never have what you are looking for (totally under stocked), the sore itself is dirty, and you can never find help and when you do they can't understand what you are asking the response is always "I can't speak English". This Richmond store is like shopping in a goodwill store. And worse of all in the frozen section is just what it is, is a freezer full of ice and no frozen food. I placed an order on Wednesday, November 27. I ordered three items two of them arrived quite quickly. The third one never arrived and no updates were made. I called on Dec16th only to be told that my order was lost in shipment. Walmart said they could not give me the same item for the same price. apparently you can't buy plants because none of them have bar codes and you can't buy anything unless it has a bar code. even if it is $2.47 and you've waiting 30 minutes to buy it and offer to just give them the money. i blame it on a system so automated to cut costs that it doesn't allow for any flexibility. and on hiring workers on minimum wage that have no allowance to make any decisions. it can be worth it if you have no moral objections and you don't have to sit in traffic for an hour each way. otherewise spend the extra $5. read more

Yes. You read correctly. I am giving this store location a 4 star review. It serves its purpose. Jobs and low-cost items that would cost a fortune elsewhere. The only issue I've had here, are the solicitors that hang outside the front of the lower part of the store in groups and follow you to your car, then once you get inside your car you are greeted by 3 other solicitors all selling different items....that were OBVIOUSLY stolen from around the way. Because of this, I think I'll start parking upstairs and taking the escalator down. read more

Zero stars. Had to come here twice in two days. Keep in mind, it's a two story Walmart. The elevator was out of order and the escalators that are supposed to haul your shopping carts with perishable food kept breaking down. So, it was a major cluster $&@! just to go up or downstairs. Many carts with food were just abandoned near the elevators. The worst part of my Walmart experience is that I was approached by two different (non-Walmart) sales reps trying to sell me something. Are you kidding me? One guy in a suit stands near the electronics and asks anyone walking by "excuse me, what kind of cable do you have?" I think he was trying to sell Xfinity but I didn't give him the time of day. Another girl approached me with a make-up bag of eyeshadow trying to push some "giveaway" offer. Seriously? The latenight staff here are all so competent, quick-witted, and engaging. They'll disclose the behind-the-scenes causes of consumer-facing failures, but that's where the frustration sets in: like all Walmarts I've been to, this one fails to provide the tools staff needs to rock the zesty commerce. No price tag on that dress? Item # not in the system, turns out, after magnifying glass is procured and tiny digits are typed in? Well, maybe we can negotiate based on similar item's pri-- nope. No, they can't. Neither customer service nor cashiers are allowed, it seems, to apply logic and thus save a sale. I've had paint, discontinued by the store, so on sale for almost nothing, show up full price on receipts, and been refused an adjustment as it was too close to closing, so directed to show up at opening for a refund. Showed up the next morning, receipt in hand, paint display right the hell there, but not toting the 7 gallons I'd purchased 7.5hrt earlier, and was refused any adjustment. Really? I had to put 7 gallons of paint back in my car, and lug them back to this counter, to see the $90+ overcharge BS rectified? Yeah. And if one of those was nearly empty when I got it, picked up for $1 for future color matching 'cause it was rad, but come on ColorPlace is not sullying my walls, that can's refund was refused. I paid $19 for an ounce or so of an admittedly brilliant burnt orange-y red pigment, despite the fact they didn't sell such a thing for such a price. Can't purchase the [$9 at another store] dress that they do, without a tag, by the same absent logic that's seen big gaps on the shelves where my anchor products go, but I expect that, now. As I expect to wait an hour in line should I show up at 8pm, when staff are all sent to lunch despite every reg 10-deep with new parents and their life-or-death hungry little kids. Its not staff's fault. Its management's. There's only one store I've been to that ever gets scheduling right, and the staff there are pretty sharp, too [Hesperian, Hayward]. It has its own quirks. These places all do. But the Richmond store has some salt of the earth neighborly clerks who make me feel looked after. I don't get that at Target, or FoodMax, so the Hilltop Walmart gets my latenight cat food, hardware, and lacy tank tops dollar, every time. read more

Only go here if you know what you need and how to find it. Prices are usually good but I have found better prices on name brand food. I did not like the Lack of customer service and employees that act "ghetto" with a I don't care I work on minimum wage type personality. I get it. I agree with all one star reviews. I dread going to this Walmart. Even the thought of parking there makes me want to just spend an extra 3$ at Walgreens. Someone from their corporate office needs to regulate. It's just not worth saving a few bucks for a horrible experience. read more

I do not expect to get the best, nor even close to average service at ANY Walmart, however as an employee, shouldn't you know if your employer sells groceries or not? Last time I went I had to ask 4 different people to unlock a pair of headphones for me. they just kept ignoring me also a guy next to me needed a HDMI cable and no one could help him either. no one knew what It was I had to help him myself while I waited for someone to come back and help me. I easily waited 10 minutes until I got upset and went to the cash register and asked if anyone would unlock the headphones, with a lot of attitude he finally did it... 1 star for Horrible customer service in the electronic department. I often hear people say that this Wal-Mart is ghetto; it's no different to me than any other Wal-Mart. There is always a moody grouchy employee who is unsatisfied with where they are at in life and they show it through their bad customer service. On this particular Wal-Mart there is one lady who is always grouchy, but I've grown fond of her. The other day I went to return some items and there was a long line and no joke..4 workers behind the customer service area standing around talking. There was only one person on the register and 8 people in line. They have such patience when it comes to getting things done. The store is always kept neat and its my to go to store for any house hold items needed. I never buy food there so I can't rate that section. read more

Please hire new management. The assistant manage is making rules up as she goes. I tried to inform her to refer to the Walmart rules and regulations for customer and returns since she was lacking the knowledge of how to handle it. After an hour dealing with the return, i was given my money back. But why did it take an hour, I went out my way to prove her she's wrong in her by calling corp and the company I purchased from... trust me lady I don't wanna deal with you again. Today I had some free time to check you ha. You cannot assume or accuse your customers that they are thieves for returning defective items. On top of that, I had the receipt.. I don't care who hurt you or who gave you a bad ideas of your customers but practice your rules that Walmart has placed for you and stop making shit up. Unbelievable. I go to this Walmart branch and see people opening cookware boxes. I get suspicious and choose another type. Then after two days tonight, I find out that the big pot in the box is not there!!! And the box was taped and wrapped with security band!! How's that possible?!?!?! Ridiculous. This is your typical big box store Walmart-style labyrinth of aisles and items you can get lost in for hours. They have a ton of stock but at the same time somehow have limited selections especially when it comes to clothes but they had some really low price food-finds in the freezer section/snack/condiments aisles. Also-- I couldn't believe how much gluten free stuff they had in the snack section and the freezer section as well. Prices on it were low to decent. I left before I could finish getting everything I needed because I had simply been there too long. I got some gluten-free chicken nuggets, meat lasagna, frozen vegetables stirfry -- they also have mashed and riced cauliflower but they're charging too much for it, something ridiculous like four dollars. I found something I've never seen before -- pasta made from lentils and quinoa flour - I bought it ($4!)-- and I tried it and it was pretty great. There are a lot of things I would have liked to find but didn't and there are a lot of things I wasn't expecting to find but did. Basically I had your typical Walmart trip where you end up spending a lot of money and not getting what you really came for. Oh also employees/people in the store are pretty rude but just ignore it and it's fine, that's all that about them and they can have it. But you can't beat flavored seltzer for $.68 a liter or a $3 poop emoji hat. Walmart your evil ways have sucked me in; I feel guilty, I committed a sin. read more

Went in to do a simple exchange, the Hispanic girl, heavy set, long dark wavy hair (she wasn't wearing a name tag) that did the exchange was very rude. The whole time she was talking and laughing with her co worker instead of giving me the customer I deserved.
