Its combination of being well-stocked, easy parking, seemingly every buying option needed, and a quality grocery section makes it a keeper for me. This is the first and I mean first Walmart that was not only super clean but I was actually able to find things easily and in the right areas! From the entrance to the isles I'm pleasantly surprised! The lighting was great along with the music. Very pleasant employees and so helpful! I live on the south side of Des Moines and I tell you the pricing was even way better! We are contemplating on driving to Ankeny to get the better more affordable groceries that are actually in stock and easy to find! I never know whether or not my Walmart experience is going to be great or eh, but right out the gate his warm and friendly customer service took my experience right over the edge. The customer service sucks, they are too bad they will never refund you money even if you do not receive your order. The third-party sellers are scammers and Walmart takes your money and gives it to the scammers, then they ask why you are not sure that they are scammers or not. It's a stupid thing that Walmart allows scammers to sell on their online website and wants the customers to distinguish between the sellers if they are scammers or not. The Stupids who are working at Walmart try to attack anyone who puts a bad review. I get it, it's Walmart, but honestly sometimes their produce is better than Hy-Vee! Prices are getting worse, almost as bad as Hy-Vee but no fuel saver. They NEVER have a real person at checkout except for the cigarette lane, so apparently if you want a live person to ring you out you have to wait 20 min in line around a bunch of smokers ( I recently quit and the smell drives me nuts now) The reason I gave 2 stars is the delivery service. I have used it two times and both times no heads up from the drive they left my food on the door step. I guess I did get a call from California, but this is Iowa and also we live in the time that everything is a scam robo call. I don't think it's too much to ask that they ring the doorbell or knock so my milk and frozen goods aren't sitting in 80 degree heat for 20 min. read more

This WalMart Super Store is doing a good job keeping up with the bustling SE shopping district in Ankeny. Always see employees busy restocking shelves and helping people. My trip early in the morning came with some jockeying around restocking staff but was always greeted as I stared at items that my brain said I needed. Working towards my real mission of getting all the ingredients to make homemade BBQ sauce was successful here; all the condiments and the large amount of seasonings were all present and accounted for at extremely good prices. After checking out I was stopped in my tracks by the Super Bowl Game Night display, now I have to throw a party or just come back here to hang out on game day!! read more

There's not too much I can say about Walmart, it is WalMart, one of the best innovations in American history. They have nearly everything you need to buy, including groceries. They are open all night in case you need something late. Parking is easy. Price is good. I'm not going to give this store less stars than 3 for this reason alone: they consistently provide a wide range of low priced, quality items. However, I cannot ignore some of the glaring mistakes this particular store makes - especially within the last year. 1.) Many of my family's favorite items that were always at the store have begun disappearing off the shelves and never coming back - now I know these items weren't unpopular and I know they just weren't being made anymore. 2.) The store is, yes, as many have said, understaffed at the registers, but that's not the root of the problem. It's actually that they have WAYYYY to many employees stocking things during their peak hours, which is extraordinarily inconvenient for all shoppers. 3.) Recently, I submitted an online photo order for pick up in the store. It was due for pick up on Friday after 6pm. I was tracking my order meticulously, and it arrived in store on Thursday at 1:21 pm. I had not yet received an email to pick it up so I waited and figured I would hear from them on Friday. Friday came and went, no email. Now, it is almost midnight on Saturday, no email. But to top it off, I went into the store and talked to the people at the photo desk, I was told that they didn't have it. Which is blatantly false because I know it has been there since Thursday. But I wasn't going to make a scene and it truly isn't that urgent, but I spent a good amount of money on this order and wasn't thrilled to have someone tell me they didn't have it without even looking it up in their system or anything. I was irritated so I contacted Walmart's customer service tonight. They said something to the effect of "I don't know why they won't give you your order. It shows here that it is in the store." All in all, I know it's the holiday season and I know things can get busy. But the first two points have been going on for quite a while and my husband and I are pretty sure it's due to some kind of change in management. The third thing I mentioned is just really irritating, but since I know this time of year is busy, I will cut them some slack, but honestly, they should have at least checked their system. I've shopped a lot of Walmart's in my life. We travel a lot for sporting competitions, work and family lives all over the country. Walmart is just a simple go-to for anything. Ankeny Walmart is the best Walmart I've ever shopped. It's actually pleasurable. Items are easy to find (I use the app), associates are always smiling and saying "hello" or asking if you need assistance. It's clean and organized. Even other shoppers must feel this way, because everyone seems genuinely happy in this store. Compared to other Walmart's, this one is top notch. It's not even the closest one to my house....I will still get on the highway to avoid the Altoona location. Ankeny is doing something right with their store, it has to be the management, across the board. read more

Ok as far as Walmart's go, this is a decent Walmart. I was asked a few times if I needed help finding anything. Which for a Walmart is surprising. Store is fairly clean but had some clutter of sticking boxes in isles with no employees nearby. The lack of check out lines open is an issue though. So many lanes so few open. Parking is a bit of a pain because of the other stores that are almost in the parking lot. Bathrooms need cleaning. Overall decent store considering I have been in far worse! I would rather shop at target but this is not a bad Walmart! read more

Your employees do not know gun laws. I was treated like a criminal when I informed them ( reading out loud WAL-MART policy ) they were incorrect for not selling me a shotgun because my drivers license address wasn't current. I even supplemented my DL with a military ID AND my carry permit, which showed my correct address, even offering to get my car registration. I cannot believe the store manager, Archie, refused me. I showed him section 20(b) of the policy and he refused to look at it, stating no matter what I showed him, he still would not sell it to me because I was wrong. I called Altoona super WM but they didn't have the Remington 870 in stock, but informed me I was right and they would let me purchase there. Learn the gun laws! It's disturbing that the largest company in the world doesn't understand the law. Imagine how many improper sales have been made. You have lost my business! RANT FOR TODAY: Is there some correlation between Walmart and Wednesdays that I am missing. Are the gates of ignorance flung wide open on that day? The only nice person in my shopping day was the door greeter. Bless her heart, I bet she can tell some stories. As soon as people hit the front door, its cell phones on, brains off, now wander aimlessly and get in the way. I can't count how many times I got dirty looks when I yielded my shopping cart with an polite excuse me. I was cut off more times than I can remember and no one said excuse me. I even had two women cut right in front of me. I said excuse me, and so did one of the women, but I heard the other woman say to her shopping partner "Why did you have to say excuse me?" Attention Walmart shoppers, all rudeness is Bob West's fault! Then the single mom, fresh from a puff off her meth pipe, was hauling her loud 4 year old child (whom had a uni-brow and probably shaved his beard at birth) all the while she cussed at him through the store. And a lady from the hit discovery channel show "My 600lb Life" was rolling through on one of Walmart's motorized carts talking at the top of her lungs with orders for her wimpy husband to grab various pastries off the shelf for her. I heard her back up all over the store.....eee...eeee..eeee...eeee. She no doubt missed the cookies and other items. She also had her mouth full of food! Where the hell did she find free food? And I can't forget the overall wearing toothless guy with the huge ass who parked his cart sideways in the aisle and looked like he would like to kill me as I squeezed by his ignorant self. Am I too nice and polite? Should I buck up and start being an ass hole like them? Was I raised wrong by my parents? Has society gone to a "moron majority" while I had not noticed? As Wal-Mart stores go, this one is abysmal. The staff are poorly trained, their customer service manager is a joke, and their stop and search policy at the door is frankly horrendous. When i approach a door, its always the same story. A demand for a receipt, no please and no thankyou, no politeness. With Sams club, thats part of the contract. Since i signed no contract with Wal-Mart, i find it somewhat offensive. Still, they do have a good range of products, but I suspect that this is more to do with corporate keeping them on track, rather than the rabble of children and poorly trained staff actually doing their job correctly. read more

They desperately need employee training. Every single time I've been here, I've had a negative experience (admittedly, I'm not a regular Walmart shopper). On my most recent visit, I was overcharged for an item. I noticed it after checking out, but before leaving the store. I immediately double-checked the shelf price and verified the sku. I then went to customer service with a photo of the shelf price. The employee who did the price override was absolutely unprofessional. She scolded me and told me, "this time we will make an exception and refund the difference, but not in the future... in the future you need to tell the cashier if an item rings up wrong." I said, "huh? This was your mistake... not mine... how could it possibly be my fault that your system and shelf price have a discrepancy?" She again rudely repeated that they were doing me a favor and wouldn't do it again. The solution is simple... I just won't shop at Walmart again. I wish I had return my entire $100 purchase. I've also seen cashiers on their personal cellphone (at the registers) on two different occasions. read more

One star based on the customer service. My brother and I went in to redeem pop cans and saw one was full and another was out of order. So I went told someone that works there about it and got told they would send someone out. Waited 45 minutes then finally got service from someone who looked like he didn't even work there. At least 10 employees 4 of which were managers passed us and didn't say a word. I got frustrated to the point of wanting to leave. Second time this has happened and I'm done. I'm taking my pop cans to Hy-vee from now on at least I'll get good service there. Then got stuck one out of three check out lanes because every lane was backed up including self check out. The Ankeny, Iowa, Walmart is being remodeled and becoming uglier, so much so that I might not ever enter the store again in person. There is some attractive wood-look flooring in the clothing section. I don't know if it will remain or will be torn out. But, the new, glossy, gloomy, grayish/brownish flooring is UGLY! It is replacing white vinyl flooring. Who on earth would take an attractive store and make it ugly!? Just as awful is that a young male worker, who was vacuuming up the dust and debris after old flooring was removed, had to bend over completely to put the end of vacuum hose on the floor with his hand right at the floor. The vacuum did not have a hose and nozzle that would allow the worker to stand upright and do the job in a humane way. Shame on the wealthiest family in the U.S.! Double shame! read more

Friday 11/14/2014 - went in to get new tires put on my car...they were busy, so I set up an appointment for 1pm on Saturday 11/15/2014. I was there by 12:45pm. I was being patient, as I could see they were busy and others that had an appointment prior to me were still there. By 3:30, the last appointment prior to me (12:00 appointment) had been helped and was out of there. They proceeded to let walk-ins ahead of me. I asked how much longer before they got my car in, and they told me 3 hours. I had them give me my keys, and I left. I will never take my car to the tire and lube center at walmart in Ankeny anymore. read more

We left the store and got home to discover that we were missing some items. I called and spoke to a man at the customer service desk who told me that he had my items at the desk. He told me that the customer service desk was closing at 10:00 (it was 9:50) but that he would be there until 11:00. He told me to ask for a customer service manager and let them know I had left some items behind and that they were being held behind the desk. I immediately went to the store and when I got there, I explained to the people greeter that I needed to speak to a CSM. If I was rating this based on her service, it would be a 1 or 2, she looked at me like I was crazy and said (while pointing to her name tag) "I'm a people greeter". Another worker walked by and took me to the CSM, who immediately sent me to Robby at the desk. Robby immediately got my items, checked my receipt and I went on my way. Thank you Robby (and CSM, didn't get the name) for helping me retrieve my missing items even after the desk was closed for the night! read more

The service here is spotty at best, even for a Walmart. During the warm weather employees are frequently smoking and congregating by the front (side entry doors). Too bad they don't have a nice,private area of their own. I shop early morning around 5 a.m., and stocking is to be expected. What's experienced in the food area is nothing short of a joke: Isles at times, that are almost completely closed off with stock, carts, what have you. I have had to leave mine to slip in for limited access. My experience recently, has been the stockers don't even care in terms of service. The frozen meal isle for example, the stocker associate was observed a competitor as I am trying to reach my area of selection,evidently also his. So much for service. Routinely, wooden pallets are thrown on the floor! Having to listen to this loud "Gunshot" is not a pleasant experience. My family is ready to try different Walmart, it might be worth the drive. read more
